on The Hills…
All:
Surprise!
Lauren:
(V.O.) Heidi reminded me what a good friend she was when she threw me a
surprise birthday party.
Spencer:
Heidi, the love of my life, loves Lauren more than anything in the world. Happy
birthday.
Lauren:
(V.O.) But Spencer kept pressuring her to move in.
Spencer:
There’s a big difference between friends and people you’re romantically and
intimately involved with.
Lauren:
(V.O.) Whitney was about to graduate college and it was time to start thinking
about her career.
Whitney:
I’m just ready to have like more responsibility.
Lauren:
(V.O.) But we already learned that the fashion industry, had tough competition.
Lisa:
She’s not coming. Emily, why don’t you take a seat at the table? And you can
take the other girls down. They’re gonna go.
Lauren:
(V.O.) Whitney really wanted to move up at Teen Vogue. But she was about to
find out that sometimes, the last step, is the hardest. CUT TO: Teen Vogue Offices
Lisa
is talking to Lauren and Whitney in her office.
Lisa:
As you know, the Oscars are this week. And we have a wonderful opportunity.
Andre Leon Talley is coming in to town. Andre is the editor at large at Vogue
and they’re doing a segment of Good Morning America. We have now collected
thirty dresses worn by famous actresses to the Oscars.
Lauren:
Wow.
Whitney:
Whoa.
Lisa:
You’ll have Emily from New York. She’s coming p to help on this event. She will
be modeling one of the dresses in the show. Any questions?
Whitney:
No but do you have a second to talk?
Lisa:
Absolutely.
Whitney:
Okay.
Lauren:
I’m good.
Lisa:
Thanks. Okay.
Whitney:
Sorry. (Lauren leaves) As you know, I’m graduating in May and I just wanted to
know like what realm of this whole world I could possibly work in. I just kinda
want your input.
Lisa:
What do you think? What are you thinking?
Whitney:
I don’t know. It would be my dream to work for you, to work for Amy.
Lisa:
There is a job possibility here at Teen Vogue. And that’s as a fashion contributor.
So it’s a great time for you to be graduating from college and looking for a
job. There are other interns that also have the same qualifications and will be
interviewing for the same job. CUT TO: Opening CreditsCUT TO: Teen Vogue Offices
Whitney
comes into the room she has with Lauren after talking with Lisa.
Whitney:
Hi.
Lauren:
Hey. How’d it go?
Whitney:
Good. (Sits down) Basically she said that they’re looking for someone to fill
the position called like (Quotes with her fingers) “fashion contributor”. She
said there’s a bunch of other interns that would be applying, blah, blah, blah.
Lauren:
Ah…it’s gonna be a little competitive.
Whitney:
Yeah.
Lauren:
I would not wanna compete with Emily.
Whitney:
So I just kinda have to like I guess, prove myself and you know, especially
with this shoot coming up.
Lauren:
Well let’s make you look good.
Whitney:
Yeah. CUT TO: That Night – Don Antonio’s
Heidi
and Spencer are having dinner.
Heidi:
(To waiter, with food) Thank you. All right.
Spencer:
This is a feast.
Heidi:
Thank you. (Waiter leaves) So I had fun at Lauren’s birthday.
Spencer:
Uh, I think it’s very ironic that I ended up somehow making Lauren Conrad’s uh,
birthday toast. I bet she hated that more than anything.
Heidi:
What was that birthday toast about, though?
Spencer:
You thought it was nice, I was trying to be mean.
Heidi:
Spencer…
Spencer:
What?
Heidi:
I feel like if we really did start think about moving in together, honestly
it’s like we’d have to really make sure that there’s never gonna be another
like Playmate incident like you know? Those things like can’t happen again.
Spencer:
How much I love you now compared to where we were at then is from the earth to
the moon so…I think moving in would be brilliant.
Heidi:
We’d have to really, you know, like trust each other and be like…
Spencer:
You don’t trust me?
Heidi:
I mean, I just don’t even know what to say. It’s like I don’t…
Spencer:
‘Cause I know I trust you. CUT TO: The Next Day – Good Morning American Fitting
Everyone
is setting up.
Lauren:
Where’s super Emily? (Shows Emily walking down the hall to the fitting. Then it
goes to Emily walking in.) (To Whitney) Your competition has arrived. (Emily is
now with Lauren and Whitney)
Whitney:
Hi. (Hugs Emily)
Emily:
How are you?
Whitney:
Good how are you?
Emily:
Good.
Lawren:
(Is over by them now) So ladies just quickly to go over with you. Andre is
gonna be here in a few minutes. Lauren. (Lauren looks up) Just making sure
you’re listening.
Lauren:
Yeah.
Lawren:
Um, okay. So when he gets here, if we could just eliminate as much chaos as
possible with all the people and everything.
Lauren:
Okay.
Lawren:
Okay?
Lauren:
Okay.
Lawren:
Thanks guys. (She walks away)
Emily:
(To Whitney) This is so exciting, ‘cause I mean it’s like…it’s such a huge
thing to be working on.
Whitney:
I know. I remember all these. The pink one’s the Gwyneth Paltrow one, right?
Emily:
Mm-hmm. Very good.
Whitney:
The blue one’s the Hilary Swank. I want to wear all of this stuff. (Lisa comes
in followed shortly by Andre)
Lauren:
Tell me, exactly what his job is. I know he’s like…
Emily:
He’s the editor at large at Vogue. I think he’s like the premiere Vogue person
next to Anna Wintor.
Lauren:
Wow.
Andre:
(To model) You look fabulous in this dress, fabulous. See, it’s a great dress
on her. (The interns help people get dressed) (As model walks in a dress) I
like that shoe. That’s the shoe. That’s the heel, Lawren.
Emily:
It’s pretty. (She puts shoes in a bag. Whitney takes pictures of the dresses.
Emily gets a dress for a model)
Andre:
Where’s the minlio flat that you just had? Is there another…? (Lauren gets the
shoes) Oh…oh she’s learning…the intern. Oh and she’s asserting herself.
Assertiveness…you go ahead in life. That’s it. (Lauren helps the model put on
the shoes) She’s asserting herself. Divine. (Whitney and Emily help another
model with shoes) Ooh! Let’s see her walking in this. Okay. I think you might
wanna try that sandal.
Whitney:
What about Sue London? Have you seen those flats?
Lisa:
No. What do they look like?
Whitney:
They’re basic flats that come in every color.
Lisa:
Yeah.
Andre:
Are you a mode, the lady in the top? (Points at Whitney)
Whitney:
No.
Lauren:
She should be, right?
Lisa:
Whitney’s another intern.
Whitney:
I’m an intern.
Andre:
You’re an intern.
Lisa:
She has uh…
Andre:
You should be a model.
Lauren:
She walked in one of the Teen Vogue shows.
Andre:
You’re beautiful. You should be a model.
Whitney:
Thank you.
Andre:
You never modeled? How times did she model?
Whitney:
No, never. I mean people have said it because of my height but…
Andre:
Can we try a dress over here? Can we try the…?
Lisa:
How about trying Faye Donaway’s white dress?
Andre:
No.
Whitney:
He’s making me sweat.
Andre:
Sophia LaRen dress.
Lisa:
The Sophia LaRen dress.
Whitney:
Really?
Andre:
Look how skinny her legs are! (Whitney laughs) Oh my goodness. You missed your
calling. (Whitney laughs)
Lisa:
She has got…she hasn’t got a job yet, you know. She’s just graduating.
Andre:
You know what she would look good in, is in that…(To Lauren) can you go back
there and give her the Hilary Swank dress? (Lauren goes to get it) Gilarouch.
(To Lisa) She’s got the look of television look. She’s got the television face.
(Cut to Whitney wearing the dress)
Lauren:
Ooh Whitney.
Andre:
Oh…come on. A star is born. A star is born. If we don’t put her on that
show…she’s doing that TV show. She’s going on the show in that dress. (To
Whitney) You’re looking great in the dress.
Whitney:
Thank you very much.
Lisa:
Good morning America, Whitney.
Whitney:
That’s crazy.
Lauren:
You’ve been discovered. CUT TO: Brody’s Condo
Spencer
is on his laptop while Heidi looks for something.
Heidi:
Have you seen my shoes?
Spencer:
Uh, what do they look like?
Heidi:
Like black stiletto pumps.
Spencer:
I’m afraid I have not seen any black stiletto pumps.
Heidi:
Damn…I have to go to work and I’m late.
Spencer:
You know why I don’t feel bad for you?
Heidi:
Oh why?
Spencer:
‘Cause if we lived together, you wouldn’t have that inconvenience of always
having to go get that last little thing you forgot at your apartment.
Heidi:
That really helps right now.
Spencer:
You know what, Heidi?
Heidi:
What, Spencer?
Spencer:
Go to work and we’ll talk when you get back.
Heidi:
What is that supposed to mean?
Spencer:
I’m ready to get serious now. It’s like I’m been doing the whole like single in
Hollywood thing. It’s like if you don’t want to get serious, you just need to
tell me that.
Heidi:
I’m serious. Does that mean I have to move in with you? Is that the…it’s like
that’s the next step? That’s not fair. It’s like that’s not what I’m doing…
Spencer:
It’s not about the next step. It’s about…
Heidi:
Then what is it about?
Spencer:
…Making this relationship better.
Heidi:
So living together is gonna make it better.
Spencer:
No living with Lauren is ruining our relationship. There’s difference between a
best friend and a best friend slash roommate. I would rather you live by
yourself than you live with Lauren.
Heidi:
Okay so…why don’t you decide my living arrangements and you can just tell me
later?
Spencer:
I’ve already decided your living arrangements.
Heidi:
Okay great. It’s a huge thing. It’s not just like ‘Let’s move in together’, you
know? It’s like this is probably the biggest decision I’ve ever had to make.
Spencer:
This is serious and I…you’re the first girl that I’ve ever wanted to take it to
that next level with…and that’s fine if you don’t wanna do that. Let me just
get out. CUT TO: Good Morning America Shoot
Backstage,
everyone is getting ready. It shows Whitney getting makeup done. She is wearing
the Hilary Swank dress. When she is done, she walks on set. It cuts to Lauren
showing up. Whitney is walking up the stairs she will have to walk down when
she is on Good Morning America. Whitney is standing with the other models.
Lauren sits down to watch. Everyone is getting ready for the show, including
Andre, walking on set and Emily, who is also modeling a dress. Someone is doing
final touches to Emily’s makeup. It shows the camera, with Whitney on it,
getting final touches to her makeup.
Guy:
All right everybody. Quiet please. (The show is starting) We’re gonna go live
in five…four…three…
Woman:
Good morning, Andre. Tell us a little bit about your exhibition.
Andre:
Well Laura Sisken, who is producing the Oscars this year, came to Vogue and to
me and Anna Wintor and said…(Shows the models on a little screen next to Andre.
Below him, it reads ‘Hall of Fame Oscar Dresses, countdown to the Oscars’)
‘Let’s have a great show about historical Oscar fashion’. So what we have is
the history of Oscar fashion. We have these four extraordinary ladies coming
down the steps now. (The models start walking down the stairs, with music
playing) In a representation that I think is so fabulous. We start first with
Sadanka, who is wearing Barb…(Whitney slips walking down the stairs. Lauren
looks shocked) Uh…Barbara Streisand’s (The models help Whitney up) dress, 1969,
when she won the Oscar for ‘Funny Girl’. Then we have Whitney, an intern from
Vogue, wearing Hilary Swank’s beautiful blue silk jersey dress from Gilarouch,
from the year when she got ‘Million Dollar Baby’. It’s an extraordinary dress
and Hilary picked it because she thought it would be chilly that night.
(Whitney turns around, because the dress almost has nothing covering her back)
so she wanted long sleeves but then when she turned around, you got all the
drama of an Oscar gorgeous gown. Then we have lovely Emily, another Vogue
intern from New York wearing Vera Wang’s extraordinary dress with a beautiful
necklace from Fred Laden and it’s all about couture with Vera and this was a
great hour glass shape going to a bombast sequin skirt. You see glamour, you
see style.
Woman:
Thanks Andre. Diane, back to you.
Guy:
And we’re clear. (Everyone claps)
Andre:
It’s fine. It’s a great way to begin your premiere. (He hugs Whitney) What
happened Whitney?
Whitney:
I don’t know. I just…
Andre:
You didn’t fall on the floor, did you?
Whitney:
No.
Andre:
It’s the train.
Whitney:
I just went to the side.
Andre:
It’s real. That’s real. (The models go back up the stairs, picking up their
dresses. Whitney walks up by herself. Lauren goes up to see her)
Lauren:
Whitney. (Lauren and Emily approach Whitney) Hey. You okay?
Whitney:
Yes. (Hugs Lauren)
Lauren:
Whitney don’t. You look beautiful. Don’t be sad. You look perfect.
Whitney:
I highly doubt that.
Lauren;
Don’t stress out. It’s fine.
Emily:
You look great.
Whitney:
Thank you.
Lauren:
Whitney…
Emily:
At least you didn’t really fall like you didn’t actually fall like on the
ground.
Whitney:
Yeah. I went off to the side.
Lauren:
Whitney…(Hugs her)
Emily:
Relax.
Whitney:
It’s okay.
Lauren:
You make me so sad.
Whitney:
No it’s fine. (Lauren leaves as Whitney goes backstage. Whitney wipes her eyes
as she walks up the stage. It cuts to her sitting in a chair.) CUT TO: Later That Day – Teen Vogue Offices
Whitney
is in Lisa’s office.
Lisa:
We need to talk about Good Morning America. You did a great job, Whitney. I
know it was hard for you but it was really impressive and I think it was a
really endearing moment and everybody falls. Here’s a letter from Any Astley,
to you.
Whitney:
Oh my god.
Lisa:
Uh…’Dear Whitney, even Naomi Campbell has taken a tumble on the runway’. So
that puts you in great company.
Whitney:
That’s so sweet.
Lisa:
It’s really sweet.
Whitney:
Yeah.
Lisa:
And besides Amy Astley, Anna Wintor also called to say she thought you did a
really great job.
Whitney:
Wow.
Lisa:
You just recovered really well and dignified…
Whitney:
Thank you.
Lisa:
And you represented us really well so…
Whitney:
Okay good. Yeah, I just didn’t want to disappoint you.
Lisa:
You didn’t.
Whitney:
Okay good.
Lisa:
Um, on that note, we’re thinking that it would be a really great idea for you
to go to New York to meet with Amy Astley about the job that I spoke to you
about before.
Whitney:
Wow. That’s amazing. Thank you. I feel like I am really ready for this
responsibility.
Lisa:
I highly recommend you. I think you’ve done a great job. But I talked to you
about this before, that Amy will be interviewing others.
Whitney:
Oh my gosh okay.
Lisa:
All right.
Whitney:
Well thank you much.
Lisa:
You are so welcome.
Whitney:
I feel really so honored to have this opportunity.
Lisa:
Well we definitely want to keep you in the family.
Whitney:
Yeah. (Takes the letter from Amy) Well I’m gonna take this though.
Lisa:
Yeah. That’s for you.
Whitney:
Okay.
Lisa:
Absolutely.
Whitney:
I feel like I should frame it. CUT TO: Lulu’s Café
Lauren,
Whitney, and Audrina are sitting outside.
Audrina:
(To Whitney) You’re going to New York? That’s awesome.
Whitney:
I know. After the Good Morning America thing, it’s just been like replaying in
my head.
Audrina:
I’m sorry.
Whitney:
We walked up the stairs. We did…we rehearsed it five times. I was like ‘Fine,
no problem whatever, I can handle this’.
Audrina:
And it’s live, right?
Whitney:
It’s live, okay?
Audrina:
Oh my god.
Whitney:
I get to the last step and I just like kinda collapsed to the side.
Audrina:
Oh my god.
Lauren:
And she didn’t go all the way down.
Whitney:
I didn’t go all the way down. I come up and I’m like ‘I just keep this smile on
my face because like you know what am I gonna do? I can’t just run off’.
Audrina:
You have to keep going.
Whitney:
It was just embarrassing.
Lauren:
Just ‘cause it was live TV.
Whitney:
I just started like hysterically crying…
Audrina:
You know what? You got up and kept doing it. You didn’t run off stage or start
crying.
Lauren:
Yeah it could have been a lot worse. I thought it was gonna be like a domino
effect with the models and they were all gonna go down.
Whitney:
At that moment, I thought it was like the end of the world.
Audrina:
So what is the job Whitney?
Whitney:
Lisa titled it like ‘fashion contributor’. It would have something to do with
styling. And she said that I would be like basically head of all the interns.
That’s kind of a scary thing.
Lauren:
You didn’t tell me that. You’re head of all the interns?
Whitney:
I mean it’s not something that I really like…
Lauren:
Well if I go back there and intern next year, then you would be in charge of
me.
Whitney:
I’d be, technically.
Lauren:
I’d so much rather you be there instead of like…Emily.
Whitney:
Emily’s a possibility.
Audrina:
You’d love that, Lauren come on.
Lauren:
I would quit. I actually would quit. You know you have to get the job, right?
Whitney:
Hopefully. CUT TO: Bolthouse Offices
Heidi’s
phone rings. She answers it and it is Spencer.
Heidi:
Hello?
Spencer:
Yeah I’m in the alley.
Heidi:
Okay. I’ll come outside.
Spencer:
All right. Bye.
Heidi:
Bye. (Heidi leaves to go meet Spencer. It cuts to outside. Heidi walks outside
and over to Spencer, who is sitting in his car. She opens the door and gets
inside) Heidi: What’s wrong?
Spencer:
You tell me what’s wrong.
Heidi:
Nothing.
Spencer:
I disagree.
Heidi:
What?
Spencer:
I got this unresolved living situation with my girlfriend.
Heidi:
I don’t know, it’s just a really big decision.
Spencer;
For me, it’s not. That’s the difference in our relationship. It’s just over
this you not ready to go to the next level with our relationship.
Heidi:
It’s nit about going to the next level with our relationship. I have other
things going on too. It’s like ‘Why now?’
Spencer:
Stop saying ‘Other things’. Just say ‘Lauren’. Say ‘Lauren’.
Heidi:
Okay. You know what? It’s like…no it’s not just Lauren.
Spencer:
What is it then, besides Lauren?
Heidi:
But why now? Why are you pressuring me so much now? It’s like what is this big
moment? It’s like come on…relax.
Spencer:
It is a big moment.
Heidi:
It is a big moment but…
Spencer:
I wanna move on with my life.
Heidi:
But it’s not like move on or…you know...
Spencer:
For me it is.
Heidi:
No it’s not.
Spencer:
For me, it is.
Heidi:
No it’s not like that.
Spencer:
For me, it is that. It is.
Heidi:
You can’t wait a couple months?
Spencer:
What do I have to wait for?
Heidi:
For me to be ready. But it’s like…everybody’s pulling at me. For God’s sakes,
just let me like relax for a minute. I don’t know what you want me to do.
Spencer:
You do though.
Heidi:
Okay. You want me to move in but like what about the recussions for the rest of
my life? It’s like…
Spencer:
What?
Heidi:
Oh…for my friends, for work…
Spencer:
Friends…it’s one person. You keep on trying to pretend. How’s it gonna affect
your work? How’s it gonna…?
Heidi:
Okay but why now? Why can’t you wait? I don’t understand.
Spencer:
I’ve been waiting! We’ve been talking about this for over a month! Over a month
now we’ve been going back and forth.
Heidi:
Is this like your way out? If you want to be single, if you want to run around
with all these girls, it’s like just tell me.
Spencer:
Heidi…
Heidi:
Don’t blame it on like a moving thing…
Spencer:
Heidi…
Heidi:
Yes?
Spencer:
If I wanted to go around with all these girls, do you think trying to get you
to move in is what I would be doing? Does that sound like it makes sense to
you?
Heidi:
Yeah.
Spencer:
It does? ‘Cause it doesn’t really make sense to me. Hmm…no. It doesn’t really.
Heidi:
All right, well, my answer is no.
Spencer:
Sweet, my answer is get out of my car. (She opens the door, gets out and shuts
the door, walking away)
Heidi:
Stupid car. (He speeds away. Heidi stands there, watching, obviously upset. It
cuts to her going back inside Bolthouse. Then it shows LA from above, and you
can see Spencer’s car driving away)
