Night. Jane's bedroom. A knock comes to the door. Jane goes to the door.

Jane:Who is it?

Man: Internal Affairs. Open up.

She looks through the peephole, then unlocks and opens the door.

Man: Get dressed.

Kathleen Clayton's place. Mary opens the door. A group of police come in. Kathleen rushes downstairs. Gene Taylor is with them.

Mary: Ms. Clayton.

Kathleen: What is this?

As she heads downstairs.

Kathleen: I know my rights. You can't just come in here like this.

Man: A warrant for John Clayton's arrest.

Hands it to her.

John hears talking downstairs and opens his eyes.

Gene: Check upstairs.

John sits up.

Internal Affairs Man: We have to talk.

He enters with police. They step in living room.

Jane: About what?

I.A.: Michael Foster.

Jane: I told you everything I know.

I.A.: You didn't tell us John Clayton was alive. That he murdered Detective Foster. Or that you were there and covered it up.

Kathleen reads the warrant as the police head upstairs. She quickly follows them up.

Kathleen: Who do you think you are comong in here like this?

She stops a moment.

Kathleen: Get out of my house!

I.A.: We're picking up John Clayton right now.

Jane: You do that and someone's going to get hurt. At least let me bring him in.

I.A.: I don't think you realize what kind of trouble you're in. Get dressed.

Greenhouse door opens. Police walk in guns drawn looking up. John jumps down and lands, then stands up. Police surround John, guns aimed.

Kathleen: John. John, Don't move. Please.

Gene steps in front of her.

Gene: John Clayton. You're under arrest for the murder of Michael Foster. Get down.

Kathleen: Just do it, John. Do as he says John. Please.

John offers his left hand out to Gene. Gene nods to a policeman behind John. The man shoves John down on his knees and holds his left arm behind his back. Gene comes up and puts a cuff on John's wrist. He leans forward, turns around and shoves Gene back. Gene tumbles back and stops with his back against a tree. John runs up to him, puts a foot on his chest as a boost and goes up in the plants.

Kathleen: John don't!

The police look up around them guns aimed. John jumps down in front of Gene, knocks the gun away, and knocks him in the face sending him to the floor. John quickly goes back in hiding as the others help Gene up. Gene wipes his cheek a moment and sees blood on his fingertips.

Gene: Get him!

They hear noise behind them and turn around and see John a moment before he goes out of view. He swings down and knocks a uniformed policeman down, flips kicking another in the face, then lands on his feet. As Gene heads towards him, John dodges and leaps up grabbing onto a bar. As he swings, Gene shoots. He dives through a window as Gene shoots a couple more times. Gene and another man go to the window and don't see him anywhere.

Gene on walkie-All units, this is 575. Suspect is on the run. Repeat, suspect is on the run.

Gene and man walk away and the other men leave. Kathleen rushes to the window and see he is gone. She sees some blood on a broken piece of glass on the window frame.

Next day. Precinct.

I.A., Jane, and Lieutenant in interogation room.

I.A.: I gotta tell you. I've been doing this job for ten years and I've never seen anything close to this. We're talking obsruction of justice, aiding and abeding, excessary to murder.

Slaps folder on the table.

Jane: It wasn't murder.

I.A.: Fine.

He pulls chair and sits down across from her.

I.A.: Then why don't you tell me what happened?

Lieutenant: Jane, you should wait for the union deligate.

Jane: You know what? I don't care. I'm telling the truth.

She stands.

Jane: Michael and John were fighting. I stopped them. Michael charged John and they both went over the edge of the roof. John tried to save Michael. But he couldn't and he fell.

I.A.: That's not what our witness says.

Jane: Well, then your witness is lying.

I.A.: He said it was murder. He says he told you the same thing.

Jane: Wait, are you talking about Donald Ingram?

I.A. looks from Lieutenant to Jane.

I.A.: So it's true, you co-ersred him.

Jane: No, I-I interviewed him.

Lieutenant: Okay, that's enough. No one says another word. I need a minute alone with her.

I. A. picks up folder and stands. John hobbles around a corner and onto a sidewalk. His right thigh is bleeding, his pant leg covered in blood. He hobbles out to the middle of the street and stops. He sees his Uncle has been pulled over by the police. He goes to the other side of the street and goes into a planted bench park. He goes in and leans against a wall of bushes. He looks at his leg a moment.

Jane: Ingram's lying. Richard Clayton got to him. I know he got him to change his story. He's behind absolutely all of this. Sir, he even got Michael working for him. That's how he got messed up in this.

Lieutenant: Do you hear the words coming out of your mouth? If any of this is true, then why didn't you bring the Clayton kid in? Why did you keep it quiet?

He sits across from her.

Jane: Because he's not exactly the kind of kid you can bring in. Look at what happened at that greenhouse. I thought I could protect John. From his Uncle, from other cops, from Gene. I thought, I thought I had it under control.

Lieutenant: Guess what?

Jane: I know. I was wrong and I made a mistake. And John is innocent. And if we don't do something he's gong to die.

John tears off a part of his bottom shirt and ties it above his wound.

Lieutenant: Pending the outcome of this investigation, you're supended until further notice. I gotta take your badge and gun. Now.

He stands up. Jane stands up. She slowly puts her gun down. She removes her badge from her belt and puts it next to her gun. Sam and Jane talking as they walk down the sidewalk.

Sam: I don't want a new partner. You're my partner.

Jane: I am really sorry, Sam. I didn't mean to do this to you.

He raises his hands a moment.

Jane: Uh, look, you're gonna kill me for this, but I need to ask your help

Sam: No way.

Jane: Sam, I gotta find where the D.A's holding Ingram, I gotta get him to tell the truth-

She stops and faces him.

Sam: Jane, stop. No! No, I'm not going to let you do this anymore. You're acting wreckless and you're acting insane. I'm your parnter and  I'm not going to let you do it anymore. You have to be reasonable.

Jane walks away.

Jane: My goodness I'm sick of people telling me to be reasonable.

Sam comes up and walks with her.

Sam: I'll tell you what.

Jane: I've had enough!

Sam: Okay, forget getting suspended for this. You could be convicted. You're telling me you're willing to throw your life away for this guy?

Jane faces Sam.

Jane: You know what? John's innocent.

Sam: I don't care! How many times have I heard that?

Jane: No, no, no. I don't mean 'not guilty'. I mean he's innocent. He is so pure, and he's completely uncorruped. I don't even have words for what else he is Sam because I've never met anyone like that. I don't care how much trouble I'm in, I don't care what laws I've broken. I'm gonna save his life. Because that's the right thing to do. And in my mind, badge or no badge, that makes it my job.

She pouts at him a moment.

Jane: It makes it your job too.

Scoffs.

Jane: Thanks for your help.

She crosses the street leaving Sam standing there.

Night. High view of traffic. Top view of buildings. Jane comes out of a door onto a rooftop. She slams the door and looks around.

Jane: John.

She looks under something nearby then walks to the edge of the roof.

Jane: John.

Tarzan/John: Jane.

She turns around and sees him move from around a structure.

Jane: Hey, God I was hoping you would be up here.

She goes up some steps and kneels next to him. She puts her hand on his face. He puts his right hand (still with cuffs) up to her face. She looks down at the cuffs and smiles.

Jane: I'd better get those off you.

She notices his leg.

Jane: John, what happened?

He shows the cuffs.

Tarzan/John: Police came.

Jane: No John. You're leg. You're bleeding.

She pushes his hand down and gently touches his wound. They look at one another a moment. Jane looks back at the wound as John puts his head on her shoulder.

Kathleen looks through blinds at a car across the street. Her phone rings. She goes over and answers it.

Kathleen: Hello?

Jane: Call this number from a different phone.

Kathleen grabs a pad and pen.

Jane: 555-0184.

Jane waits at a payphone. The phone rings.

Jane: Hi.

Kathleen: Jane, what's going on?

She moves back to a chair near the window.

Jane: Your line's probably tapped. Mine too. Listen, I'm at a payphone. I need you to leave without the cops following you. Take a cab. Then, get out and hail another one.

Kathleen: Why?

Jane: I need your help. I'm with John and he's hurt.

At another house. John laying on his back. An older man with white hair puts something in John's arm. John grabs his wrist.

Doctor: Lie down.

Kathleen: Leave it in, John.

Dr. walks around to behind John's left shoulder. John watches him.

Tarzan/John: It makes my arm cold.

Kathleen: It's medicine. It'll help you get better. It's okay, John.

Jane looks out a window from across the room in another. Kathleen walks up.

Kathleen: It's alright. You can trust Ben (Dr.) We're safe.

Jane: I don't know any place is safe right now. And I don't understand.

She turns to Kathleen.

Jane: How could your brother do this? He's going to send John to prison for Michael's murder.

Kathleen: I know what he wants. I just never thought he'd go so far to get it.

Kathleen walks away.

Traffic in the tunnel. A limo.

Nash: Thanks. Alright. That's good. Keep me posted.

Richard watches Nash hang up.

Nash: That was my source down at the D.A.'s office. So far Ingram's sticking to the plan, but at a risk. He's irratic.

Richard: I wish we didn't have to do this. John is my nephew. I saved him. I brought him back. And I was prepared to give him every opportunity. But my sister, she's conviced him that I'm the enemy.

Nash: Well, as if you had any other choice, right?

Richard: Just make sure Ingram sticks to the story.

Sam puts a pot of coffee back on the burner and turns around. As he walks out Lieutenant meets him at the doorway.

Lieutenant: Sam, until this Porter thing shakes down, you're gonna ride with somebody.

Sam: Oh, come on. I'm not in the mood to housebreak some puppy.

Lieutenant: Hey, have a little faith, would ya?

Lieutenant walks away. Sam follows.

Lieutenant: Jed, over here.

Jed tosses a file on a desk and heads over to Sam and Lieutenant.

Lieutenant: Huh? He's on loan from the one five.

Lieutenant pats Jed on the shoulder, then walks away.

Jed: Sam. Been a long time.

They shake and knock shoulders.

Jed: How you doing?

Sam: It's been tough man, I tell ya.

Jed: Yeah, I heard. Hey, you need anything, you let me know. Alright?

Sam: Alright.

Shakes hands.

Sam: Appreciate it.

Jed: You got it.

Lieutenant: Okay listen up everybody. Please. Come on. Look, I know you're all exhauted, but I got some updates on the Clayton case. I don't gotta tell any of you that this suspect is different. So the usual tricks aren't gonna work. We got wire taps and surveilance in key positions. The Aunt's house. Porter's house.

Gene: That's the key right here. We need to crack Porter.

Lieutenant: Let me worry about that.

Gene: I bet she knows where he is. I bet she's doing the guy right now.

Sam: Didn't he just say 'let him worry about that'?

Gene turns to Sam and stands up.

Gene: What's the matter, Sullivan? Porter doing you too?

Sam: No, you're mother's all the woman I need.

Lieutenant walks up.

Lieutenant: Hey, you two. Cool it. Look, I know we're all emotional about Mike, but we gotta keep our heads. Okay? So we apprehend Clayton. Apprehend. That means no deadly force. Are we clear?

He looks to Gene a moment, then walks away.

Jane is sitting next to John who is still laying down.

Jane: I'm gonna come check up on you first thing in the morning okay? John, promise me you'll stay here.

Tarzan/John: I promise.

She turns away. He reaches out and touches her face. She turns to him.

Tarzan/John: You're tired. You should sleep.

She takes her hand and rubs his arm.

Jane: I'm fine. John.

She warps both arms around his.

Jane: I'm not gonna quit on this. Alright? I'm gonna keep fighting. Let me try to save you for once.

She smiles. He smiles back.

Jane: Goodnight.

She gets up and leaves. He watches her go. A taxi stops and Jane gets out. She walks across the street and heads down the sidewalk and sees Gene leaning against a car.

Gene: Evening Detective.

Jane: What do you want, Taylor?

Jane stops.

Gene: Just in the neighborhood staking out a suspet. This suspect watched her boyfriend getting murdered, then protected the killer. What kind of person would do something like that?

Jane: You don't know what you're talking about.

Gene stands and gets in her face.

Gene: Listen, when I find John Clayton, and I will find him, stay out of my way.

Jane smiles.

Jane: Go work your stake out and leave me alone.

Gene:  There's gonna be justice here. Mike deserved it.

He knocks her in the shoulder with his as he goes. Jane watches him go.

Next day. Greystoke building. Richard at desk. Kathleen can be heard.

Kathleen: I'll see him whenever I damn well please.

She opens the door and walks in.

Secretary: Mr. Clayton, I told her to wait.

Richard: It's alright, Danny. Gee, you know you could have called?

As Danny closes the door as she leaves. Kathleen steps up to his desk and sits down across from him.

Kathleen: No I couldn't Richard, my phones are tapped. Why are you doing this?

Richard: Doing what?

Kathleen: I don't want to play these games. I don't have the energy.

Tosses a half inch file on his desk. He looks at her a moment, then picks it up.

Richard: What's this?

Kathleen: A proposal. I will sign off my Greystoke shares to you, all of them, if you call off this witness.

He looks between her and the papers.

Richard: I never would have expected this.

Kathleen: It's a one time offer. There is one other condition.

Richard: What's that?

Kathleen: There's an attatched writer. You'll agree never to touch John's shares, or his trust, or his inheritance. Our nephew keeps what's his.

He closes the file and puts it back on the desk.

Richard: No.

Kathleen: I'm offering you control of the company. It's what you wanted.

He walks down the three steps to a nearby table.

Richard: I've already got your shares and John's, why would I sign that?

She stands up and stands at the top of the three stairs.

Kathleen: What do you mean by that?

He pours himself a drink.

Richard: My lawyers are working on it as we speak. John will plead insanity, eventually he'll be released in my care.

She comes down and stands across from him.

Richard: As for you, you'll be charged with obstruction of justice. A scandal company bi laws, realty clause, shoudn't be too hard to get your shares after that.

Kathleen: Richard, this is exterme, even for you.

Richard: I came to you, Detective Porter, I begged you both that John be contained, re-habilitated. But you didn't listen to me. You didn't give me any other choice.

Kathleen: I won't let you do this and I don't care if I have to tear this company apart to stop you.

Richard: Kate, do whatever you have to do.

She leaves, he watches her go.

Sam knocks at Jane's door. Jane opens it looking very tired.

Sam: Hey.

Jane: Hey.

Sam: You haven't slept, have you?

Jane: Trying to dig up leads on Donald Ingram.

She walks away. Sam comes in and closes the door.

Jane:  I called a couple different friends at a couple different precincts. They hung up on me, Sam. My reputations' getting around.

Sam: Jane, the D.A.'s hot on Ingram. He's impossible to get to.

Jane enters the kitchen and gets a cup and goes to the coffee pot.

Jane:  We already had this fight.

Sam:  I know, but can I finish?

She listens as she pours a cup of coffee.

Sam: Like I said, he's impossible to get to, but I'm gonna help you get to him anyway.

Jane: Really?

Sam: If you let me have that cup of coffee.

He says pointing at the cup she just poured coffee in. She hands it to him.

Sam: Look, I know John Clayton is a lot of things, okay?

He walks around to refrigerator as he talks.

Sam:  I know he's wild. He's hard to handle, he's unpredictable.

He opens fridge, and leans on the door looking at Jane.

Sam: Hell, he might even have fleas.

Jane smiles.

Sam: But he's not a cold blooded murderer.

He gets out the milk.

Sam: And I've seen him save too many people.

He closes fridge, has the milk in one hand and coffee in the other. He comes up and stands in front of Jane.

Sam: And I seen the way he looks at you. So I'm gonna help you save his ass.

Jane: Thanks Sam, for being my friend.

She reaches out and touches his arm.

Jane: For being my best friend.

Sam moves his arm away, she takes her hand off.

Sam: Could you back up off me? Could we just skip this Hallmark moment?

Jane steps aside.

Jane: Sorry, I'm sorry.

Jane walks over and gets a cup

Sam: Get sick. Start crying.

Jane pours a cup of coffee as Sam ads sugar to his and talks.

Sam: Like I said, the D.A's got the address locked tight. They're not even using their regular safehouses.

Jane: Alright, so what the hell do I do?

Sam pulls a paper from his inner jacket pocket.

Sam: I want you to know, this cost me a date with one of the ugliest police clerks you ever saw.

He opens the once folded paper. Jane looks over at it.

Sam: It's a duty roster, the detectives that's guarding Ingram.

Jane takes it.

Jane: Sam that's great.

He reaches in his jacket again.

Jane: I can get their financials.

He opens the second paper.

Sam: Great minds think alike. Already done it. Now check this out. They all made credit card purchases, right. Within a five block radius.

Jane takes the second paper.

Jane: That's in the bowery.

Sam: Yep.

Jane: So we got a neighborhood.

Sam: We got a name.

She sets the paper down, picks up her cup and clinks cups with Sam.

Jane: Well, that's a start.

Jane walks around a railing and removes her jacket. She pulls her shirt down in front slightly, then enters. She sees a man in back. She tosses her jacket nearby and walks up.

Jane: Hi.

Man: Can I help you?

She leans on the counter so he can see down her shirt.

Jane: I bet you can. My boyfriend's name is Matt Carlton and he works in the area and I think you delivered to him before?

He pulls over a card index box and pulls out a car with the address.

Man: Yeah, a couple of times.

Jane: It's his birthday today and I was going to go suprise him at lunch, but he has a brand new job and I've completely forgotten where it is. Could you give me his address?

Man: Um, why can't you just call him and get it?

Jane: That would completely ruin the suprise.

He puts the card on top of the rest, loosely closes it, and slides the box aside.

Man: Well, I just can't be giving out addresses so..

He walks back to the back counter.

Jane: But it is right there.

He looks at her. She opens the box and pulls out the address.

Jane: On this little notecard.

He walks up carrying a pizza box. She folds it in half.

Jane: So, if I don't tell and you don't tell...

She tucks it in her bra strap.

Jane: Now, can I have a large please? Peperoni, no mushrooms, and uh, make it to go?

Man: Uh, oh yeah.

Outside, Jane puts the pizza box in the garbage. She has her jacket back on. She looks down across the street and sees 'Hotel Waverly'. She walks down an alley and looks through a fence up at the windows. She doesn't see anyone. She continues a few steps and looks at some other windows. She stops and sees Donald standing near the window reading a book. She sees him turn and step away still reading. She goes to a fire escaspe ladder and begins to climb. Near the top, she grabs a bar. It snaps. She looses her footing and holds on by one hand. She swings herself back on the ladder. John sees her.

Tarzan/John: Jane.

Jane looks up and sees him.

Jane: John.

John climbs down from the roof to where she is.

Jane: John get out of here. Please. You're still hurt. Go back to Dr. Jackie's.

Tarzan/John: I'm going to help you.

Jane: You can't help me.

He moves to the top level of the ladder, reaches down, takes her hand, and pulls her up next to him on her feet. She smiles.

Jane: Thanks.

Tarzan/John: You're welcome.

She looks over at a window next to the ladder. John puts one foot on the ledge, then takes her by her waist and moves her onto the ledge.

Jane: Wait here, alright?

She steps inside, quietly walks to the door and locks it quietly. Donald clears his throat as he emerges from the other room. He sees Jane.

Donald: What are you doing here? You shouldn't be here. How did you get past the police?

She slowly comes to him.

Jane: It's okay. Calm down.

Donald: I can't breathe, I need my inhaler.

Jane: I need to talk to you.

He stands next to a lamp in a corner.

Donald: Please leave me alone.

Jane comes closer almost an arm length away.

Jane: Richard Clayton, he paid you to lie, didn't he?

Donald: I can't take it. I can't take this anymore!

She backs up.

Jane: Alright, just tell me what happened?

Donald: I wish I could go back to that night and just close my eyes.

Jane: Donald, the man that you're accusing his name is John Clayton and he is a good man and this is going to kill him.

Donald steps back to the lamp.

Jane: He will die if he goes to jail, if you don't tell the truth.

Donald: If I said what he wants me to say he wouldn't hurt me. He'd let me go home. But I'm still here. Why won't he let me go home? I need to go home.

He steps towards her. Jane steps to him. He moves back next to the lamp and sits on the arm of the couch facing the lamp.

Donald: I am so so tired of being scared.

Jane comes up to him.

Jane: You don't have to be scared anymore. I can protect you.

Donald: You cant' protect me. You can't protect me!

He stands up and goes in the corner again. Jane backs up.

Donald: No one can protect me! He knows where I am!

Jane: Richard Clayton?

Donald: These men who work here, they work for him. If I tell the truth, he is gonna come here. He's gonna hurt me!

Jane: Alright, then I will get you someplace where Ricahrd can't touch you. I'll get you out of here.

Donald: I don't know.

Jane: You have to tell the truth. You have to.

Donald: Will you help me get home?

Jane: Yes. I promise

Jane offers him her hand. He reaches out and takes it. As they turn and head for the window, John is seen on the ledge. Donald flips out. He backs up knocking a t.v. down.

Donald: Oh my God! It's him!

Jane: Donald, it's alright.

Two men at the bottom of the stairs hear him scream and dash upstairs.

Jane: Donald, it's alright. He's not gonna hurt you.

Donald has his back against the wall unable to go any further as John slowly steps over. Donald gets up and stands against the lamp. John is a few feet from him and offers his hand. Donald looks between Jane and John. The two men reach the door with guns drawn. One tries the door and can't open it.

Tarzan/John: Don't be afraid.

Man: Ingram. You okay, Donald?

John steps out the window first. Donald is next. He sees the distance to the gorund.

Man: Open the door.

Donald: I can't do it. We're too high up.

Man: Open the door or I'll kick it down.

Donald steps back in, then looks at John. Men at the door look at each other.

Tarzan/John: Trust me.

Man: Ingram.

One kicks the door open and they both step inside. They see the window open and the room empty. They go to the window and see no sign of Ingram.

Man: Let's go.

They head back in. Donald, Jane, and John are hiding behind a brick section out of view. Jane sees the men are gone. She turns to Donald and heads down the alley. Donald follows with John behind. As they turn onto the sidewalk, two men watch them in a vehicle, wait a moment, then follows them.

Precinct. Sam's phone rings.

Sam: Sullivan.

Jane: (On phone) Sam, I got him.

He covers the phone a moment and turns to Jed who sits across from him.

Sam: Can you cover for me?

Jed: Yeah, whatever you need.

Sam gets back on the phone.

Sam: Where are you? I'm coming to you.

As he pulls his jacket onto his shoulder. Jane looks out blinds. Dr. Jackie hands her a cup of coffee. Jane takes it.

Jane: Thanks.

The doorbell rings. Jane looks back out the window. John and Donald look up from the counter in the kitchen.

Jane: It's alright, it's Sam.

Dr. Jackie goes upstairs. Jane follows. John walks up, grabs the stair railing, jumps over it and follows them upstairs. Donald stays downstairs. Dr. Jackie opens the door and Sam steps in.

Sam: Doctor.

Dr. Jackie closes the door as Jane and John step off the stairs. Sam meets them next to the stairs.

Sam: Hey. So you pulled it off, huh? You know, if I was a betting man, I would have lost.

Jane smiles as she replies.

Jane: You are a betting man. You lose all the time.

Jane sees Dr. Jacki in ear shot.

Jane: Sir, you may not want to hear this.

Dr. Jackie: Let me know if you need anything.

As he walks past them.

Jane: I will, and thank you, for everything.

Sam: So, where is he?

Jane: He's downstairs washing his hands, again.

Sam: So he's gonna tell the truth?

John is at a doorframe looking up at something.

Jane: Yeah, which means that you've got to be the one to take him into protective custody because I can't be seen anywhere near him.

Sam: Alright, so what's the story?

Jane: Ingram wanted to come clean, Clayton was threatening him, he ran away, he found you.

John looks to Jane.

Tarzan/John: Jane.

Jane and Sam look to John. They hear talking after a sound of glass breaking. John rushes downstairs and jumps over the railing halway down. Sam and Jane rush down the stairs. John runs in the kitchen. John stops and sees a broken pane in the window on the open doors. He goes out the doors and up a ladder onto an alley street. John jumps onto the street to see Donald being dragged away. A vehicle stops and the men force Donald in. John runs after them. Jane and Sam see him go and stop. The vehicle speeds away too fast for John. Jane and Sam at main door.

Jane: How the hell did they find us?

As she steps inside the door. John steps in and Sam closes the door.

Tarzan/John: He's gone.

Jane faces him and puts a hand on John's arm a moment.

Jane: It's alright, John. They won't hurt him. They need him alive.

Sam walks to Jane's other side.

Sam: First things first. We're gonna have to find John some place safe.

Jane: Where's safe now?

Sam looks at John, then back at Jane.

Sam: I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but what about my house?

Jane: No, Sam. You're already way too involved.

Sam: Jane, I'm a police officer standing next to a murder suspect. How could I be more involved?

Jane: Thanks.

Sam: On one condition, You're not coming.

Jane: What?

John comes up and stands at Jane's right side.

Sam: I'll get John to my place, you're gonna go home to rest.

Jane: Sam, I'm fine.

Sam: No, you're not. Look at you, Jane. You're a mess. Come on, when was the last time you slept?

Jane stays quiet. John looks at Jane seeing he is right.

Sam: That's exactly what I mean.

Jane: Alright.

Sam: Good. I'll get a taxi.

Jane in back of taxi. John and Sam stand there. Jane looks to John.

Jane: Look, I'm gonna come back tomorrow and check on you. Stay safe, okay?

Sam closes the door.

Sam: Get some rest.

The taxi drives away. Sam and John watch her go.

Sam: I like you John, I do.

He looks to John, then back in Jane's direction.

Sam: But there's nobody I care about more than Jane.

He looks back at John.

Sam: Look, I'm gonna tell you something.

He steps away to head to his car. John doesn't move. Sam reaches over to gently pulls on his arm. John pulls it back.

Sam: We got to go.

John walks with Sam.

Sam: Jane is killing herself over you, right? She's killing herself. She won't admit it, but she's trying real hard to be strong. But I don't know how much she has left. Hey, hey, hey.

John stops. Sam puts his hand on John's elbow.

Sam: You understand what I'm saying.

John reaches over to move Sam's hand. Sam moves it before he does.

Sam: Okay, I won't touch you. You understand me? She is going to lose everything she has ever worked for, for you.

John looks to Sam a moment.

Sam: That's right. Trying to save you-

John looks back down the sreet.

Sam: From the cops, from your Uncle. (Sighs) I've never worried about her before,

Turns to look down the street.

Sam: But I guess I'm worried about her now.

He looks to John.

Sam: Anyway, man, let's go. Gonna get you to my place.

Heads to his car, opens driver door to get in.

Sam: Just get in-

He turns back and sees John gone.

Sam: John. John.

He turns full curcle.

Sam: Jane's gonna kill me.

Night. Raining. Greystoke building. Richard finds a book among many, pulls it out, and flips through looking for something. John stands outside french doors. Richard sees him. John opens the doors and steps in.
Richard: John, you suprised me.

He puts the book down.

Richard: What are you here for?

Tarzan/John: The man you took. Let him go.

Richard: Donald Ingran? No, don't worry, he's in good hands.

John steps closer and walks around Richard.

Tarzan/John: Why do you hurt people?

Richard turns around and faces him.

Richard: Who am I hurting?

Tarzan/John: Jane, Kathleen.

He walks back over to door still facing Richard. Richard turns back around.

Richard: Well, I'm sorry they're hurting, but that's not because of me.

Tarzan/John: Who else?

Richard: You John.

John comes and stands in front of Richard slighlty pacing.

Richard: You've caused Jane nothing but trouble. You caused the death of her friend. And as long as you're out on the street, you'll only hurt her more.

Tarzan/John: I keep her safe!

Richard: You make her miserable.

Tarzan/John: This is your fault!

Pointing down a moment.

Tarzan/John: Stop this! All of it!

Richard: It's too late. I tried to help you and you spit in my face.

Richard steps back and turns away. He turns back to John.

Richard: You know, there's a saying that you need to learn, John.

John steps up to Richard.

Richard: You make your bed and you lie in it.

John comes up, grabs Richard's shirt, and holds him up against the bookshelf. He holds Rrchard's shirt with both hands up at Richard's neck.

Richard: You wanna kill me?

John nods.

Richard:  Do it. Go ahead. Do it! It'll only be proof of what I've said. That you're an animal. That you need to be caged.

John lowers Richard a moment, then raises him again choking him. He looks at Richard a moment, then throws him to the floor. He looks at Richard a moment longer, then turns around, knocks a light down onto the floor, and leaves out the doors he entered. Richard sits up gasping for air. Kathleen is at her desk working on papers. She hears a thump. She looks across the room to a set of double doors. She gets up, walks over, and opens them. She doesn't find anybody. She turns around to see John there.

Kathleen: John.

He moves to her left.

Kathleen: How did you get in here? Police are everywhere.

Tarzan/John: No one saw me.

Kathleen: What's going on? Are you alright?

She reaches out and touches his arm. He knocks her hand away as he looks at her.

Tarzan/John: I want to go home.

He looks at her with a half smile.

Kathleen: You are home.

She smiles back. He smiles, then swings his right arm back as he talks knocking something to the floor.

Tarzan/John: Not this house! Not this city!

He steps closer to her.

Tarzan/John:  My home.

He smiles.

Tarzan/John: Home.

Night. Kathleen is sitting drinking tea. Mary enters with Kathleen's cell phone.

Mary: Ms. Clayton. It's Jane Porter again.

She walks up and hands her the phone.

Kathleen: Hello Jane.

Jane: Have you seen John?

Kathleen: Yeah I have.

Jane: Alright, where is he?

Kathleen: At the airstrip at Lindenherst. I'm sending him back.

Jane: Back where?

Kathleen: It took a bit of doing, but one of my jets is taking him as far as Bronswell. It's in the Republic of Congo. He can make the rest of the way on his own.

Jane: What?

Kathleen: He's going home.

Jane: I don't understand. How could you just let him leave?

Kathleen: You don't htink I wanted to lose my nephew all over again? It wasn't me, it was him. He wanted to go. Look, I want to thank you for everything you did. Because of you, I got to know him again, if only for a little while. I hope this won't be a goodbye.

Jane hangs up.

Sam: What's going on?

Jane: Sam, John's leaving for good.

Sam steps closer to Jane.

Jane: Why would he do that?

Sam: Because it's the right thing.

Jane: For who?

Sam walks around to face Jane.

Sam: For you. For both of you. Come on, it makes the most sense. There John will be safe. Isn't that what you want? And your life will get back to normal.

Jane: Listen, Sam. I need you to be my friend right now. I need you to help me.

Sam steps out of the building and goes across the street to a stake out car.

Sam: Hey boys, working hard I see.

Passenger: Sam, what you doing hanging with that two-faced lying bitch anyway?

Sam: You call her that again, I'm gonna straight up whoop your ass.

Passenger: Oh yeah?

Sam: Oh yeah.

Driver: Okay, you two, take it easy. Come on.

Sam: You got a big mouth.

Sam looks to the doors and watches Jane take off running.

Sam: Have a good night bosy.

Sam walks away.

Gene at desk. Jed comes up.

Jed: So I cloned Sam's cell phone like you asked.

Gene: And?

Jed: Porter just made a call. John Clayton's trying to skip the county. We should take this to Connor.

Gene: No. I'm gonna take care of this myself.

He stands and grabs his jacket, then walks away. Jed watches him go.

Airport strip. Small plane. A cab drives up and comes to a stop. Jane gets out and runs to a fence. She sees John and pilot walking to the plane.

Jane: John!

She opens the gate and runs up to him. He turns around.

Jane: I heard you were leaving. I had to see you.

Tarzan/John: Why?

Jane: Because I couldn't let you leave like this.

Her eyes glazing over.

Tarzan/John: Like what?

Jane: John, how could you, how could you give up? There's still hope. So many things we haven't tried.

Tarzan/John: Let me go.

He backs up and turns away.

Jane: So, that's it? You're just gonna leave and you're not gonna say goodbye?

He stops and turns back to her. He looks sad too. They come together. He takes her face in his hands. Jane pulls him close and they hug. They pull back. Jane smiles at him. He smiles back. They touch foreheads, their smiles fading. They step back and both are on the verge of tears.

Tarzan/John: Goodbye.

He backs away. He turns and heads for the plane. Jane turns away and sees a car coming. She looks at the plane, then runs back to the fence. Gene gets out the passenger seat. The driver goes to taxi.

Driver: Hey. Move.

Jane runs up, grabs the gate, and slams it shut. Jane stands in front of it. Gene steps up to her.

Gene: Porter, move. You're obstructing justice.

Jane: You don't want to arrest him, you want to kill him.

Gene: Get the hell out of my way.

He shoves her aside. She quickly steps back.

Jane: You're gonna have to get through me.

Two other men stand behind Gene.

Gene: Yeah?

He grabs her right shoulder to shove her again. She takes his right arm, bends him over, and knees him in the face. He tumbles back. The two men catch him. She looks at the plane and sees it take off. She turns back to Gene. He grabs her shoulders and shoves her along the fence. She punches him in the face. He hits her back. She lands on the ground. The plane lifts off the ground.

Gene: He's getting away! You let him get away! It's your fault!

He kicks her in the stomach.

Man 1:Take it easy.

Gene kicks some more. He tries to pull Gene off. Gene shoves him back.

Gene: Get away from me!

From above, John jumps down. He lands, then jumps on Gene's back. He yanks Gene back. He drops and rolls on his back sending Gene over him. John quickly gets on his feet. He rams Gene into something. Jane looks up. The two other men tackle John. One man John slams on the car, then throws him to the ground. The second tries to hit John on the back. John ducks under the man's arm, turns him so the man's back is against John's chest, and throws him aside. Jane continues to watch. Gene comes up and hits John in the stomach. John puts one hand under Gene's armpit, and the other on the side of his face and throws him face first on the ground. John clubs him a couple of times. He stops and, on feet and hands, goes up to Jane. Her eyes are closed. He grunts in frustation a moment. He moves her hair from her face. He moves to her side, rolls her over and picks her up in both his arms. He tunrs and looks at the down men a moment, then looks down at Jane as he walks to the gate. He kicks it open and walks away.
