    Notes - The following is the transcript for the two-parts 2000's Invisible Man series premiere.

    ~~~~~~~~~~ Pilot ~~~~~~~~~~
    (Darien scales a high rise building from the outside.  He jumps over
    the balcony railing, then turns and looks down the building.  He
    pulls up his ski mask.  He looks down and we see how high up he is.)
    Darien:  "A smuck named Nietzche once wrote ‘Anything done out of
    love is beyond good and evil.’ Now here’s the thing:  I love my job.
    So what does that make me?”
    (He enters the apartment.  He pulls out a flashlight and scans the
    apartment.  He finds an oxygen tank, then a picture of Ronald Reagan
    as president.)
    Darien:  “Oh yeah!”
    (He puts the small flashlight in his mouth to free his hands.  He
    takes the picture off the wall, pulls out a small, hand-held drill,
    and starts drilling the safe.  He then flips open a gold case that
    contains 8 separate explosive charges.  He chooses one and packs it
    into the hole he drilled in the safe.  He then attaches  two wires to
    the charge.  Finally, he attaches a timing device to the safe and
    connects the wires to it.)
    Darien:  “See my whole feeling was that good and evil could kiss my
    ass.  Well, that night they sort of got together…and bit me on it."
    (Darien ducks around the corner of the livingroom for cover.  Just
    before the safe blows, the overhead light goes on.  An old man steps
    into sight and says, "Hey, you’re not the oxygen man!" Then the safe
    blows.  The old man clutches his chest and falls to the floor, having
    a heart attack.  Darien starts to run away, but then his conscience
    gets the better of him.)
    Darien:  "Crap."
    (He goes back to perform CPR on the man. He is straddling the guy at
    the hips, and is getting frustrated at his lack of success.)
    Darien:  “Come on pops!”  (He finally starts pounding on the guy’s
    chest.)
    Darien:  "C’mon old man. Earn your freaking Medicare!  Come on!"
    (The old man abruptly comes around, lays back down, and Darien slumps
    down over him exhausted by his efforts.  Just then two security
    guards burst in the door, and seeing Darien on top of the old man,
    they pull their guns and tell him to freeze. Darien looks at them and
    says, "Aw crap.")
    (Next scene – We see a picture of a newspaper with a picture of
    Darien sitting in court with the headline "Burglar Molester of the
    Elderly".)
    Darien voice-over”  "You know how they say "no good deed goes
    unpunished?" I was about to become a poster boy for that phrase."
    Old Man:  “I don’t know how long I was out.  But when I woke up, he
    was trying to have his way with me.  The bastard!”
    Darien voice-over:  "You have to understand something about justice
    in retirement communities. You even sneeze at an old person, you not
    gonna make bond.  So given my crime, and that this was my 3rd strike,
    you can guess the outcome."
    Judge John Beale:  "Death by lethal injection, (long pause while
    Darien looks up at him with a horrified expression on his face) sadly
    not being an option, it is the decision of this court that you,
    Darien Fawkes, be remanded to the maximum security penitentiary at
    Bakersfield, there to serve the remainder of your life without hope
    of parole."
    Darien voice-over:  "Things just turned black, I couldn’t say a word.
    Didn’t have a thought.”
    (Wild clapping ensues in the courtroom while a shocked Darien turns
    around to look at his girlfriend Casey. She is beyond furious and
    gets up and leaves the courtroom as Darien calls out her name.)
    (Next scene – Darien is lying on a bed in a jail cell.)
    Darien voice-over:  "Because of a bottleneck at the federal pen, they
    had to hold me a day at the court jail.  Fortunately, the security
    there was a little less than lax."
    (Darien is lying on the bed.  The lights go out.  He sits up.  He
    holds out his right arm, gives it a sharp snap forward, and a pen
    pops out of his sleeve.  He looks at it.  It says San Diego Municipal
    court, so we know he stole it from the courtroom.  He takes it apart
    and separates it into 2 pieces.  He goes to the lock and puts his
    hands through the bars, and starts picking the lock.)
    Darien voice-over:  “Soon they’d be comparing me to the greats.  Ed
    Coulters the Lizard, John Robbey the Cat, and from that night on I’d
    be Darien Fawkes the ..ahhhh!”
    (While he is picking the lock, a spider crawls down the cell door,
    landing on his hand.  He shakes it and the pen pieces off onto the
    floor, involuntarily yells, and the guard hears him and comes in.)
    Darien:  "Aw crap."
    (Next scene - Darien is in a solitary confinement cell.  The camera
    is on the ceiling looking down on him.  He is sitting there with his
    head bowed, looking depressed.)
    Darien voice-over:  “You know when they say when God wants to torture
    you he answers your prayers?  Well, I prayed for a miracle, and for
    my sins, he sent it.”
    (Door opens, a bright light blinds Darien, his brother Kevin walks
    in, door closes.)
    (Darien says the next part as rambling thoughts in his head.  He
    doesn’t speak out loud again until after Kevin starts talking)
    “Oh!  Kevin!  What can I tell you about my brother Kevin.”  (Shot of
    boy throwing Legos in the air)  “That’s me.”  (Shot of boy building a
    DNA model out of Legos) “That’s Kevin.”
    (Shot of man running from a police car in pursuit.  Voice - Suspect
    is a white male approximately 21 years of age.)  “That’s me.”  (Shot
    of Kevin graduating college.  Voice - A man of brilliance and
    vision.”)  “That’s Kevin.”
    (Shot of Kevin on the cover of Tomorrow’s Science Magazine.)  “He was
    a guy who saw a bright future in everything he touched.”  (Shot of
    Darien asleep in a chair, supposedly selling maps to home of the
    stars.)  “Lord knows what he was looking for in me.”
    Kevin in the jail cell:  “You want to tell me about it?”
    Darien:  Well, you now, we are still painting (points to cell wall
    behind him), and God, wait until you see the livingroom.  (Kevin
    looks up at the ceiling, exasperated)  I think you especially are
    gonna love it.  It’s got this really lovely colonial trim, it kinda,
    no, no, don’t do that, don’t give me the glare.  I’m handling it.”
    Kevin (at the same time):  “handling it.”
    Darien:  “I am and my case is on appeal.”
    Kevin (at the same time): Case is on appeal.”
    Darien:  “Look, you want to get your own sentences?
    Kevin:  “Then tell me one I haven’t heard before.”  (pauses) “Why the
    hell didn’t you call me?”
    Darien:  “Yeah, and say what?  Hey bro, what’s happening man.
    Haven’t talk to you in a couple of years.  Can you come down and bust
    me out?”
    Kevin:  “It beats hearing it over America Online.”
    Darien:  “I’m on the web?”
    Kevin:  “Darien!”
    Darien:  “Wait a minute, I mean c’mon, you’ve been hogging the press
    since we were 12.  Don’t I get a shot?”
    Kevin:  “No.”
    Darien:  “Why, because I’m not good enough?”
    Kevin:  “You aren’t guilty enough.”
    Darien:  “Okay Kev, if I didn’t do the crime, do you think I can do
    the time?”
    Kevin (shaking his head no):  “Not where they’re sending you.”
    (Darien looks down, very depressed)
    Kevin:  “Look I didn’t come here to lie to you.  I came here to
    help.”
    Darien:  “I think you’re a little late bro, they’re shipping me out
    of here in a few minutes.”
    (Kevin walks over to Darien and holds out an envelope towards him.)
    Darien:  “What is this?  What is it?”
    Kevin:  “It’s an option, if you’ll trust me.  Go on.”
    (Darien takes the envelope, opens it, and starts reading the letter
    inside.)
    Kevin:  “Folks I work with looked into your case.  They agreed you
    got the shaft.  Now these guys have some pull with the Justice
    Department.  I got them to put in a request.  Took a little greasing,
    but they agreed to make you an offer.  There’s a project we’ve been
    developing.  It’s fed funded, kind of under the table.  And we
    finished animal testing a month ago, and now we are ready for a
    volunteer.”
    Darien:  “A volunteer, you mean as in like a guinea pig.”
    Kevin:  “As in possible pardon if you’ll do it.”
    Darien:  “Well is this, is this some kind of Viagra thing?”
    Kevin:  “Look, I can’t get into it here.  Suffice to say it will
    involve some surgery…”
    Darien (laughs):  “It sounds like you said surgery.”
    Kevin:  “It’s nothing I can’t reverse!  Believe me, it’s a small
    price to pay for getting out.”
    Darien (getting angry):  “Look Kev, I’m your brother, hot a lab rat.”
    Kevin:  “Darien, we don’t have time for the pride thing.”
    Darien:  “Pride thing.  Nice.  (standing & pacing the cell)  ‘OK,
    this is my body we are talking about  Now you want to play doctor
    with it.”
    Kevin:  “Would you rather your pen pals play something else?”
    (Darien stands on the opposite side of the cell, away from his
    brother)
    Kevin:  Look, I’m not saying it’s not a risk.  But it’s better than
    throwing your life away.  If you’re going to trust someone, trust
    me.”
    Darien:  “Why’s that?  Because you’re my brother?”
    Kevin:  “Because you don’t have much choice.”  (Kevin holds out the
    envelope again)
    (Scene of van driving down a deserted road.  Scene shifts to the
    inside of the van.  Darien swipes his hand across the floor, looks at
    dirt in his hand, then brushes the dirt away.)
    Darien:  “Nice truck.”
    Kevin:  “I told you, it’s part of our cover.
    Darien:  “As what?  An ad for welfare reform?  Look, I’m just saying
    that whoever is funding this project…”
    Kevin:  “They’re people who want to make a difference, alright?  They
    just…”
    Darien:  “Have to do it on a tight budget?”
    (Shot of van going through a checkpoint.  Voice - F&G van entering
    outer perimeter.)
    (Van pulls up in an open area surrounded by abandoned looking
    buildings.  The back opens.  Kevin gets out, walks away.  Darien gets
    out and just looks around taken aback.  Tumbleweeds roll by.)
    Kevin:  “Darien!  Let’s go!”
    (Darien follows Kevin.  Guards follow him.  Once inside the building,
    they see the real entrance to the complex.  Kevin smiles smugly.)
    Kevin:  “Welfare reform huh?”
    Darien:  “It’s not bad.  Actually, I think they have a nicer one at
    the Y.”
    (voice - Admit 2.  2 cleared.)
    (A door slides open showing Darien and Kevin approaching.  They walk
    through the door.  They pause.  Inside there is a line of people
    dressed in white.)
    Kevin:  “Let me introduce you to the team.  This is Dr. Ramsey,
    Optical Physics.  This is Dr. Baker, Bio Physics.  Dr. Mergantz
    (sp?), Regal (sp?) Topography.  Dr. Hartnell, Genetic Coding.  This
    is Nurse Brekenridge, Nurse Carrera (Darien smiles at the nurses).
    This is Dr. Trout in Computer Modeling.  This is Dr. Ward, also
    Computer Modeling.  Dr. Bromowitz, Endocrinology, and my main man,
    Dr. Arnaud de Thiel, Biochemistry.  Youngest graduate of Geneva
    University.”
    Darien:  “Wow.”
    Arnaud:  “It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Fawkes.  I’ve read so much
    about you on America Online.”
    Kevin (laughing):  Arnaud has more degrees than the rest of us put
    together.  We like to call him our Swiss Doogie Howser.”
    Arnaud:  “It’s because they watch too much television.  Next week
    I’ll be Xena, Warrior Princess.”
    Darien:  “Oh, you must be the resident comedian.”
    Arnaud:  “Well, as I like to say, laughter is a man’s only real
    weapon.”
    Darien:  “It’s good. You make that one up?”
    Arnaud:  “Fraid so, you like?”
    Darien:  “Actually, I think it was funnier a hundred years ago when
    Mark Twain said it.  You gonna take credit for Huck Finn too?”
    (Scene changes.  Arnaud is giving Darien several injections.)
    Arnaud (injecting first needle):  “Little prick.  Really Monsieur,
    I’d no idea you were so educated.  I rather thought that was your
    brother’s domain.”
    Darien:  “Yeah, well, I guess, you know, don’t believe everything you
    think.”
    (Arnaud gets another needle)
    Arnaud:  “You see, I understand.  I have an elder brother myself.
    Things become quite competitive.  Perhaps we could compare notes
    sometime.”
    Darien:  “Absolutely!  I would love that!  Definitely.  Yeah.  Yeah.
    Then maybe you could teach me some Swiss douche.”
    Arnaud:  “Excuse me?”
    Darien:  “That’s your language right?”
    Arnaud:  “Ah, that’s Swiss Deutch, Swiss German.  I’m Swiss French.”
    (Arnaud gets another needle)
    Darien:  “So you don’t douche?”
    Arnaud:  “Monsieur!”
    Darien:  “Relax man.  I’m just ribbing you.”  (Darien laughs)  “Hell,
    I love Swiss stuff.  You know, knives and clocks and cheese…”
    Arnaud:  “Little prick.”
    (Arnaud gets another needle)
    Darien:  “I even like Abba.”
    Arnaud:  “Abba’s Swedish.”
    Darien:  “No.”
    Arnaud:  “Yes.”
    Darien:  “No.”
    Arnaud:  “Yes.”
    Darien:  “No, no, no, no, I’m, I’m, I’m actually pretty sure they’re
    Swiss.”
    Arnaud:  “They are Swedish.  A Swiss man would never make lyrics like
    that.  When I was at Zurich, the whole university boycott…”
    Darien:  “Wait, time out, Zurich.  You told Kevin you were at
    Geneva.”
    (Arnaud picks up another needle)
    Arnaud:  “I have studied in so many places Monsieur.”
    Darien:  “Yeah, I know, it’s just kind of tough keeping them all
    straight.”
    Arnaud:  “Yes.  Now I will always be straight with you Monsieur.  The
    question is, will anybody else?”
    (Arnaud finishes injecting the last needle as he finishes talking.
    Darien passes out and slumps forward.  Arnaud catches him and lays
    him down on the table.  Arnaud leaves the room.  The door closes.
    The door opens and Arnaud comes back in dressed in some kind of a
    containment suit.  He is pushing a small cart.  There is a receptacle
    on it that contains the gland.  The rest of the surgical team is
    there, and Darien is laying on his stomach, unconscious, prepped for
    surgery.  There is a hole in the back of his head.  Using forceps,
    Kevin takes the gland out of its receptacle and puts it into Darien’s
    head.)
    Kevin puts the gland in Darien’s head.  Camera shot of Darien’s face.
    The face in the shot changes, Darien’s eyes suddenly open, the
    camera pulls back to reveal he is in a bed in a recovery room.
    Darien looks around, confused.  He gets out of bed and walks over to
    a large mirror on one wall.
    Darien Voice-over:  “Time flies when you’re having fun, or in a coma.
    I’d been unconscious for nearly 3 weeks.”  (Darien feels the back of
    his head while looking in the mirror, trying to see what he is
    feeling.)  “Just enough time for every muscle in my body to go on
    strike.  But even though it was nice to be up and around, there are
    some days when you just shouldn’t get out of bed.”
    (Darien hears a sound and turns around.  The floor is lined with
    little glass cages full of spiders.  The doors open and they crawl
    out.  Pounding music starts.  Darien is barefoot.  As they start
    crawling towards him, he panics, runs to the door, pounds on it when
    it won’t open, and screams for Kevin.)
    Darien Voice-over:  “My brother knew about me and spiders, he knew
    how I’d react.”  (Keeps screaming for Kevin)  “But only he knew what
    was coming next.”
    (You can hear a heartbeat in the background.  Quicksilver starts
    covering Darien’s hand.  He stares at it, then starts saying, “My
    God, oh my God”, then runs to the mirror, sees himself totally
    disappear as the quicksilver covers his clothes, then he yells
    again.)
    (Next scene:  Kevin is trying to explain to Darien what they are
    doing.)
    Kevin:  “We fit this rat’s brain with a gland like the one we put
    into yours.  Now watch.”  (Kevin motions for Arnaud to go ahead.
    Arnaud yells something loudly in French to the rat.  The rat starts
    to release quicksilver over it’s body.  It is in a glass cage)
    Kevin:  “Fear gets his adrenaline going just like the spiders did to
    you.  That jumpstarts the gland which then secretes the synthetic
    hormone I call quicksilver.”
    (During this speech, Darien is sitting in a chair, holding a coffee
    mug, with a dumbfounded expression on his face.)
    Kevin:  “The quicksilver solidifies and seals over the skin like
    Saran Wrap.  You with me big guy?”
    Darien:  (still in shock parrots Kevin):  “Saran Wrap.”
    Kevin:  “Now think, the only reason we can see an object is because
    light reflects off it.  You see me but not the wall behind me because
    the light hits my body first, and then bounces back to your eyes.
    Now watch, watch what happens when an object is covered in
    quicksilver.”  (Kevin points to the rat which is slowly
    disappearing.)  “Quicksilver doesn’t reflect light, it bends it.”
    (Darien walks over to the rat’s cage to get a better look)
    Kevin:  “The rat’s invisible not because we see through him, but
    because we see around him.”  (Kevin looks at Arnaud and says “OK”.
    Arnaud says something soothing to the rat in French.  The rat calms
    down and reappears.  Darien has a shocked look on his face as the rat
    reappears.)
    Kevin:  “When Henri calms, the quicksilver dissolves and the subject
    is visible again.”  (Kevin laughs)  “This making sense yet?”
    Darien (with a look of disbelief on his face says):  “You put a gland
    in my brain?”
    Arnaud:  “Well Monsieur Fawkes…”
    (Darien turns in anger and grabs Arnaud by his tie)
    Darien:  I got plenty of glands, butthead.  I don’t need anymore,
    especially ones that squirt this quickie thing.”
    Arnaud:  “Quicksilver.”
    Darien (shouting):  “Whatever.”
    Darien (quieter, turning to Kevin):  “You take it out of my head
    right now.”
    Kevin:  “OK, we will.  We have a few weeks of tests…”
    Darien:  “No, no, Kevin, I don’t want tests.  I want it out now.”
    (Kevin motions for Arnaud to leave the room.  He goes.)
    Kevin:  “Alright, don’t look at me like that!”
    Darien:  Oh yeah, how am I supposed to look at you Kevin?  Oh man,
    for crying out loud, you could have told me what was going on.”
    Kevin:  “If I had, would you have volunteered?”
    Darien (yells loudly):  HELL NO!!!
    Kevin:  “Then how else was I supposed to get you out of jail?”
    Darien:  “The old fashioned way, guns and explosives.  Like Nicky the
    Alto’s brother.”
    Kevin:  “I’m not Nick the Alto’s brother, I’m yours.”
    Darien:  “Then I guess you should have stayed out of it huh?  God, I
    do not need this Kevin!”
    Kevin:  “What do you need Darien?  Your, your street pals, your
    bookie?  You’d rather go back to the pen?”
    Darien:  “Hey, the pen I understand, you know, not this.”
    Kevin:  “This is a chance to turn your life around, to do some good
    for a change.”
    Darien:  “What the hell are you talking about?”
    Kevin:  “Read the papers Darien.  We have terrorists planting pipe
    bombs in nurseries.  Russian Mafia just sold nukes to Iraq.  How long
    before one of these bastards gets hold of a missile key?”
    (Darien picks up the Sports page and starts reading while Kevin is
    talking)
    Kevin:  “Who we gonna turn to then?”  (Kevin snatches the paper out
    of Darien’s hands.)  “We need a solution.  Imagine a corps of federal
    agents, each with a quicksilver gland.  They could knock out these
    threats before they become lethal.  Don’t you see, if we could
    perfect this, we could save thousands, maybe millions of lives!”
    Darien:  Yeah, you know, they said that about a little appliance
    called the A bomb.”
    Kevin:  “Oh it is hardly the same.”
    (Darien jumps up in exasperation)
    Darien:  “Will you star 69 reality man!  God!  OK, Kev, like
    hypothetically, OK, what happens when say, I don’t know, Saddam
    Hussein gets his own little gland?”
    Kevin:  “Let him try.  The designs are only on the base computer and
    up here.”  (Points to his head)  “A criminal can’t get near ‘em.”
    Darien:  “Kevin!  Hello!”  (Points to his head)
    Kevin (exasperated):  “It is only for a couple of weeks.  We test it,
    I take it out, you’re free.”
    Darien:  “And I’m telling you, get someone else.”
    Kevin:  “I don’t trust it with anyone else.”
    (Darien gets the “Aw Crap” look.)
    Kevin:  “This is my baby Darien, it is everything I’ve worked for.
    You want it out, I’ll take it out.  But if you help me, I know we can
    make it perfect.”
    Darien:  “Kev, maybe it could be perfect, I can’t.  I mean, you don’t
    know what I could do with this.”
    Kevin:  “I’m willing to risk it.  Are you?”
    (Scene changes to an old time movie with a huge black spider
    terrorizing an old town.  Kevin talks into a tape recorder.)
    Kevin:  “Fear was first used to induce gland secretions.  Subject,
    however, does not seem to be responding to the usual stimuli.
    Suggest a new methodology.”  (Kevin walks away while Darien eats
    popcorn and watches the movie.)
    (Kevin opens a book called Biofeedback and You.  Darien is lying on
    an inclined bed, shirtless, hooked up to some electrodes.)
    Kevin:  “Picture yourself lying on the beach.  The topless Roman
    slave girls have just left, and who should walk out of the surf but…”
    Darien:  “Mira Sorvino.  Hey wait, wait, wait.  How’s she dressed?”
    Kevin:  “Like the Little Mermaid.”
    (Darien quicksilvers and the camera pans back to the bed.  You can
    see the imprint of his body but he is invisible.)
    Kevin voice-over:  “Because quicksilver doesn’t absorb light, we
    found the subject’s surface area drops below freezing, with
    consequent cooling effects on nearby objects.  Call me crazy, but I
    think this might have some practical applications.”
    (Scene of beer mugs being frozen, then the team partying having cold
    beer.)
    (Next scene, in the lab, Darien and Kevin are talking at the same
    time.)
    Darien:  “Here we go, just check it out, shhh, just check it out.”
    Kevin:  “It’s a physical impossibility.  You don’t think I understand
    how… It can’t be done.”
    (Darien puts his hand over a pair of folded glasses on a counter.
    You see quicksilver cover them.  They disappear.)
    Darien (excited):  Bam! (starts shadow boxing Kevin) Boom, boom,
    boom.  Who da man?  Who da man?  Who da man?  That’s right baby.
    Here we go!  (Darien dances around the room, shadow boxing, all
    excited)
    Kevin:  “Despite previous tests, subject exhibits ability to
    quicksilver outside objects for prolonged periods of time.  OK, we
    get it.  Can you bring them back now?”
    (Next scene – nighttime at the compound.  A nurse and a soldier are
    laughing and flirting quietly.  Darien walks around a pillar and sees
    them.  He gets a devilish look on his face.)
    Nurse (laughing):  “Yeah, I swear.”
    Soldier:  “Where’s your boyfriend now?”
    Nurse:  “Not here.  He’s far away.”
    (Next scene – The nurse and soldier go to her room.  they are kissing
    as they open the door.  She pushes him down on the bed, then slowly
    starts to take off her uniform as she sways to a song on the radio.
    Suddenly she gasps and pulls up her dress.  The camera shows the
    soldier on the bed and Darien leaning against the footboard.  Darien
    looks down at his hand and sees he is visible.  The soldier stands up
    and faces Darien.  Darien says, “Aw Crap.”)
    (Next scene – Kevin is holding an ice bag over Darien’s left eye)
    Kevin:  “You have to think about premature visibility.”
    Darien:  “Premature visibility?”
    Kevin:  “It can happen if you get distracted.”
    Darien:  “Well then, we need to get some uglier nurses.”
    Kevin:  “No, we need to teach you some control.”
    (Next scene – Kevin and Darien are outside, practicing yoga moves)
    Kevin:  “Now a yogi can control his blood flow with just the power of
    his mind.  You can do the same with invisibility.  Picture your
    heartbeat.  Speed it up.  Direct the quicksilver flow.”  (Darien does
    some swaying moves with his arms)  “Focus and focus.”  (Right arm
    disappears, then the left, then all of him)  “Excellent!”  (Kevin
    laughs and high fives an invisible Darien)  “Good job, Darien.”
    (Next scene – nighttime – scenes around the complex with mood music
    that lets you know something bad is about to happen.)
    (Scene of Darien asleep in bed)
    Darien voice-over:  “You know they say good things come to those who
    wait.”  (Darien wakes up and grabs the back of his head)  “The bad
    things are always impatient.  When I felt it the first time, I didn’t
    know what to think.  I mean, it wasn’t a headache exactly.”  (Darien
    gets out of bed and walks over to a sink.)  “It was as if something
    was knocking at the back door of my brain.  Something that wanted in
    real bad.”  (Darien splashes water on his face.  He sees his eyes are
    bloodshot, and he rubs his face.)  “Staring into that mirror, I had
    the sudden horrible feeling that another person was looking back.  A
    stranger who had stolen my face.  What the hell was happening?”
    (Darien splashes more water on his face and rubs it again.  His eyes
    are back to normal again.)
    (Next scene – daytime – the lab – Kevin and Arnaud standing – Darien
    sitting on the floor, arms extended.)
    Kevin:  “Alright, try the left.”
    (Darien quicksilvers the right arm, not all the way)  Darien:
    “Crap!”  (shakes off the quicksilver)  “I don’t get this.  I thought
    I had this down.”  (Jumps up and walks around)
    Kevin:  “Ok, OK, relax.  We’ve probably been working you too hard.”
    (Kevin puts his hand on Darien’s shoulder.  Darien abruptly slaps it
    away.)
    Kevin:  “What?”
    Darien:  “Nothing, it just, you know, I’m getting a little sick of
    you touching me.”  (Darien grabs the side of his neck and bends over
    in pain.)
    Kevin:  “Darien, what is it?”
    Darien:  “I don’t know, I just got … (Darien yells in pain, clutching
    his head.  He knocks over a table of medical supplies.  Kevin rushes
    over to him.)
    Kevin:  “Darien, Darien, hey, hey, Darien, Darien, you alright?”
    Darien:  “Hold on, hold on, I think I have a handle on this.”
    Kevin:  “You sure?”
    (Darien stands up, turn bloodshot eyes on Kevin, and in a quiet voice
    says, “Oh yeah.”)
    (Kevin’s eyes grow round with shock as he sees Darien’s eyes.)
    Kevin:  “Oh my God, let’s get him to the infirmary.”
    (Darien grabs Kevin by his lapels.)
    Darien:  “You know what?  I’ve been pricked, I’ve been poked, and
    I’ve been prodded long enough.  Now it’s your turn.”  (Arnaud tries
    to separate them unsuccessfully.  Darien throws them both off and
    runs through the lab doors. turning invisible as he goes.  Kevin and
    Arnaud run after him.  He knocks down several people in the hall, who
    don’t see him.  Arnaud stops to help while Kevin keeps going.)
    (Next scene – Darien’s point of view in quicksilver vision as he runs
    through the complex.  He finds the Women’s Shower Room.  He goes in.
    Heavy breathing.  He starts to become visible as the steam freezes on
    his body)
    Darien:  “Hey baby, how about giving me a little sugar?”  (A nurse is
    showering.  She turns, sees Darien’s frozen outline, starts screaming
    and backs away.  Kevin walks in.)
    Kevin:  “Darien, it’s OK.  Take it easy.”
    (Darien desilvers as the nurse continues to cry out and back away.
    Kevin pulls a syringe out of his pocket.  He flicks off the needle
    cover.  Darien attacks Kevin, knocks him down, gets on top of him,
    slams down Kevin’s wrist, forcing him to drop the syringe.  Darien
    picks it up.  Kevin holds Darien’s wrist to keep Darien from plunging
    the needle into Kevin.  After a moment, Darien plunges the needle
    into his own arm and depresses the plunger.  Darien passes out.)<
    (Next Scene – Darien wakes up with a yell, breathing heavy and
    looking around like he just woke up from a nightmare.  Kevin rushes
    over to him.)
    Kevin:  “How you feeling?”  (Darien grabs him to check him out.)
    “That’s alright.  I’m OK.”  (Darien gets up, walks to the big mirror
    in the recovery room)
    Darien:  “What happened?”
    Kevin:  “I’m afraid we have a side effect.”
    Darien:  “Side effect?”
    Arnaud:  “Seems the quicksilver started acting as a cerebral
    disinhibitor.”
    Darien:  “What is that?”
    Kevin:  “A narcotic.”
    Arnaud:  “And as near as we can tell, you were like a heroin addict
    in need of a fix.  It broke down your higher cortical functions,
    released your darker inhibitions.  As Freud would say, “it blew the
    lid off your id.”
    Darien:  “Look, are you going to…”
    Kevin:  “Now don’t panic.  Arnaud managed to come up with a
    counteragent to block the gland.  It should hold you for a few days.”
    Darien:  “A few days?  You mean I have to get fixed up like every
    week?”
    Kevin:  “For now.  But it is essential that you go easy on the
    invisibility.  The more you use the quicksilver, the sooner you could
    overdose again.”
    Darien:  “So this thing is turning me into some kind of junkie?  What
    the hell are we waiting for?  Let’s take it out!”
    Arnaud:  Monsieur, really, you know, it’s not that simple.  Your
    brother and I…”
    Darien:  “It’s not that simple?  Why don’t I make it simple for you?
    You take it out, or I bust…” (Darien lunges for Arnaud and grabs his
    lab coat)
    Kevin:  “Ok, OK.”  (He separates them)  “Could you?” (motions for
    Arnaud to leave.  He does.)  “Thank you.”
    Kevin:  Now you’ve got to understand.  Your body has developed a
    chemical dependency on this.  If we take out the gland now, it could
    be fatal.”
    Darien:  “And if it stays in?”
    Kevin:  “You’ll be alright.”
    Darien:  “No, I’m not talking about me Kev.  Don’t you get it?  I
    could have raped that woman.  I could have killed you.”
    Kevin:  “You are not going to kill anyone.  Darien, please, trust me.
    I will take care of you.”
    Darien:  “Yeah, you know what, I’d say you already did that.”
    (Darien walks over to the bed and puts his shoes on)
    Kevin:  “Darien…”
    Darien:  “Why don’t you get out OK?  I don’t need your help anymore
    Kevin.  Not you, your pals, and especially that Swiss Miss Mother.”
    Kevin:  “What?  Arnaud?  Arnaud saved your life.”
    Darien:  “Oh God Kevin, would you wake up.  Don’t you think it is a
    little strange how quickly he came up with the counteragent?”
    Kevin:  “Given his background?  No.”
    Darien:  “In Zurich.”
    Kevin:  “Geneva.”
    Darien:  “Geneva, Zurich, what do I know right?”  (Darien leaves the
    room.  Kevin is confused.)
    (Next scene -  Shows a computer security panel.  States that a
    Security Override is in effect and that files are being downloaded.
    We see Arnaud using small data cubes to extract and store the data.
    He puts both in his pocket, then walks to the other end of the room.
    He picks up a fire extinguisher and sprays it toward the door.  An
    outline of an invisible Darien appears, leaning on a computer
    databank.  He desilvers.)
    Darien:  “Well, that’s the perfect ending to a perfect day.”
    Arnaud:  “Monsieur, you have me at a bit of a disadvantage.”
    Darien:  “No, I’d say I had you red-handed.  What, you didn’t think
    you could fool me with that Swiss Douche Doogie Howser act do you?
    Hey, a con knows a con.”
    Arnaud:  “I think a con knows a good thing when he sees it.”
    Darien:  “Like what?”
    Arnaud:  (holding up a data cube):  Like your salvation.  This disk
    contains all the data on how to take the gland out of you.  Your
    brother could have done it, but he refused.”
    Darien:  “Yeah, right, because it could be dangerous.”
    Arnaud:  “To the gland you idiot.  Open your eyes!  You know, you’ve
    seen the way he’s treated you, the way he’s used you like a lab rat.
    Your life, it’s a minor consideration to him.”
    Darien:  “Oh yeah, and what is it to you?”
    Arnaud:  “Many things, if we can just reach an understanding.”
    Darien:  (Suddenly angry, grabs Arnaud by his coat lapels and forces
    him backwards.)  “Why don’t you go to hell?”
    (Arnaud swallows the data cube, about the size of a large sugar cube.
    Darien tries unsuccessfully to stop him.)
    Darien:  “I’d say you’re about a bowel movement away from a whole lot
    of trouble mister.”
    (Arnaud, still holding the fire extinguisher in one hand, shoves
    Darien away, grabs the extinguisher in both hands, then smashes the
    glass wall behind him.  He then holds it over his head.  An alarm
    bell sounds in the distance.)
    Darien:  “Come on, come on, give me your best shot.”
    Arnaud:  “I just might.”  (Arnaud hits himself on the head with the
    extinguisher, collapses, and Darien catches the extinguisher in his
    arms.  A soldier comes in, sees Darien standing over an unconscious
    Arnaud with the extinguisher in his arms, draws the wrong conclusion,
    and pulls out his gun.)
    Darien:  “Aw crap.”
    (Next scene – Darien is lying on a bed wearing wrist and ankle
    restraints.  He is struggling to get loose and screaming for Kevin.)
    Darien:  (yells):  KEVIN!!!  KEVIN!!!
    (Scene shifts – we are in the observation room, standing behind Kevin
    and Arnaud, looking over their shoulders at Darien struggling on the
    bed.  We hear Darien in the background while Arnaud talks at the same
    time in the foreground.)
    Darien:  “I need to talk to you!  I caught him.  I caught him
    red-handed.  He was downloading all the info…” (at this point Kevin
    turns off the speaker so he can listen to Arnaud.)
    Arnaud:  “I’m going by the computer lab.  I hear a noise.  I go in.
    He hits me on the head with the fire extinguisher.  I guess the
    counteragent wasn’t as effective as I thought.  He’s gone completely
    paranoid.  Sorry Kevin.”
    (Next scene – Kevin is pacing by the bed Darien is restrained on)
    Kevin:  “How am I supposed to believe this?  You are accusing the
    nicest guy on my staff.”
    Darien:  “Oh Kevin, come on.  Of course he’s nice.  It’s the oldest
    con in the book.  The old I love Arnaud scam.”
    Kevin:  “How would you know?”
    Darien:  “Because it’s what I would have done.  Kevin, Kevin, Kevin,
    come on, come on, you’ve gotta trust me on this one.  Kev, come on!”
    Kevin:  “Tell me one thing.  This base has been on high alert since
    the project began.  If Arnaud was stealing data, how the hell could
    he possibly get it out?”
    (Next scene – Arnaud walking through the compound.  He is fidgeting,
    clicking a pen.)
    Soldier:  “Morning Doctor.”
    Arnaud:  “Morning!”
    ( The pen has an antenna sticking out of one end.  He is sending a
    coded message of some kind (Morse code?) to his brother’s palm pilot.
    The message says, “Dear brother – 9:00 AM – The corn is green.  Be
    punctual.”  His brother takes out a bottle of Pepto Bismol and
    swallows a mouthful.  We see that his camp is in an open area with
    mountains in the background.  They are living in tents.)
    (Next scene – Arnaud and another staff person are playing Ping Pong
    in a large, and otherwise empty room.  Arnaud looks at the clock.  It
    is 8:55 AM.)
    (Next scene – Kevin and another staffer are working at a computer
    terminal.  The clock says 8:57 AM.)
    Kevin:  “It’s just yes or no.  Could someone have accessed the
    mainframe without us knowing it.”
    Staffer:  “I am still working on it.”  (The clock changes to 8:58 AM)
    (Next scene – Arnaud’s brother, Huisclos, is racing toward the
    complex with 2 dune buggies and 5 companions.)
    (Next scene – A doctor is checking Darien’s heartbeat.  He thinks
    Darien is still asleep.  As he leans over Darien’s chest, his lab
    coat falls near Darien’s restrained hand.  Without opening his eyes,
    Darien steals the pen from the doctor’s pocket.  He slides it into
    the restraint to hide it.  The doctor leaves.)
    (Next scene – a shot of the terrorists driving toward the compound)
    (Next scene – Arnaud and the staffer are still playing Ping Pong.
    Arnaud stops playing.)
    Staffer:  “What is it dude?”
    (Arnaud takes off his glasses, pulls a pen from his pocket, changes
    it into a small knife, says, “It’s nine o’clock!”, then throws the
    knife at the staffer’s mid-section.  The staffer grabs the knife and
    blood spurts out between his fingers.  He falls to the floor.  Arnaud
    leaves the room.)
    (Next scene – quick shot of the dune buggies)
    (Next scene – Darien pulls the pen out of the left restraint, then
    passes it to his right hand, and tries to open the cuff with it.)
    (Next scene – another shot of the terrorists)
    (Next scene – Arnaud walking down the walkway calling into a
    walkie-talkie in an agitated voice)
    Arnaud:  “This is Arnaud de Thiel.  This is code 4, code 4.  I need
    all security staff on line.”
    Soldier:  “Calm down Dr. de Thiel.  What seems to be the problem
    here?”
    Arnaud:  “Well you now, it seems some joker put plastic explosives in
    your walkie-talkies.  (Arnaud pulls out a small hand held device and
    detonates all the explosives.)
    Kevin (hearing an explosion):  “What was that?”
    (Scenes switching faster between Arnaud walking and terrorists
    driving.  The terrorists drive through the checkpoint.  You can see
    the booted foot and part of a leg of a dead guard.  They pull up to a
    gate.  Arnaud is standing behind it with his arms crossed.)
    Arnaud:  “Honestly brother, you’d be late for your own funeral.  (He
    pushes open the gate, and takes a gun from his brother.  Loud,
    pounding music starts as he reveals to us that he is the leader of
    the terrorists, not his brother.  They enter the compound.)
    (Next scene – Kevin walks down a hallway and finds a guard with his
    head blown off.  He runs back to the computer room.)
    (Next scene – using hand signals, Arnaud directs one of the
    terrorists to move off to Arnaud’s right.  This is the terrorist who
    throws the hand grenades in all the windows  Arnaud then sends 2 more
    men off to his left, one more to his right, then the last man to his
    left.  Arnaud and his brother continue on together while the first
    man continues throwing hand grenades in windows.)
    (Next scene – Darien is still trying to escape his restraints.  He
    hears the explosions.)
    Darien:  “Aw crap.”
    (Next scene – terrorists invading the complex.  They enter a roomful
    of scientists.  They shoot them all.)
    (Next scene – Kevin and the staffer in the computer room.)
    Kevin (frantic):  “We can’t let them get the project files.”  (He
    grabs an ax.)
    Staffer:  “I’m trying to erase them now.”
    (Kevin starts chopping into the databanks with the ax.  Staffer takes
    the ax from Kevin.)
    Staffer:  “I got it.  You’re the only other place they’re stored.
    Now go.  Go!
    (Kevin runs out and the staffer starts swinging the ax.)
    (Next scene – Darien finally gets a wrist cuff off.)
    (Next scene – a terrorist shots through a semi-transparent wall,
    killing 3 scientists.)
    (Next scene – Darien finally frees himself.  He runs for the door.
    It opens and he and Kevin collide.  Kevin is knocked down.  Darien
    grabs him off the floor and pulls him down the corridor yelling,
    “Come on!”)
    (Next scene – Huisclos enters the computer room and sees the staffer
    axing the data banks.  The two men face each other.  Huisclos says,
    “Forgive me.” and shoots the staffer.  He leaves.)
    (Next scene – Darien and Kevin are jogging down a hallway)
    Kevin:  “It was my fault.  It was all my fault.”
    Darien:  “Next time you’re gonna trust me right?”
    Kevin:  “Yeah, next time I’ll…”
    (Suddenly the door at the other end of the hall opens and a terrorist
    steps through.)
    Kevin and Darien together:  “Aw crap!”  (Kevin pushes Darien out of
    the way and gets shot multiple times in the chest.  Darien looks from
    Kevin to the terrorist and back again.  He jumps to his feet and runs
    toward the terrorist while turning invisible.  Darien knocks him
    down, struggles with him, and breaks the bad guy’s neck.)
    (Next scene – Arnaud and Huisclos walk into Darien’s room to discover
    he has escaped.)
    Arnaud (talking into a walkie-talkie):  “Gentlemen, we have an
    unforeseen problem.”  (They walk out.)
    (Next scene – Back to Darien and Kevin.  Kevin is still alive, but is
    in pain.  Darien tries to get him up.  He wants to help his brother
    escape.)
    Darien:  “Here we go buddy, here we go.  Here we go.  Come on.  Hey,
    hey look at me.  Look at me.  Listen.  Listen.  We’re gonna… Kevin
    look at me.  We’re gonna get you out.  Here we go.  Come on.  Here we
    go.  Come on.  (Darien is kneeling beside Kevin, trying to lift him.
    He is frantic.)
    Kevin:  “Guns and explosions.  Nicky the Alto’s brother.  I’m so
    sorry Darien.”
    Darien:  “No, I’m gonna take care of you OK?  I’m gonna take care of
    you.  Here we go.”
    Kevin:  “No, you get out of here.”
    Darien:  “No.  I’m not going anywhere.”
    Kevin:  “You get out!”
    Darien:  “I’m not going anywhere.  Here we go.  Come on.”
    Kevin:  “You don’t let them have what’s inside of you.  You be
    smarter than them OK?  You were always smarter than me.”  (Kevin
    starts gasping for breath.)
    Darien:  “Kevin, Kevin, Kevin, Kevin, KEVIN!!!
    (Kevin dies in Darien’s arms.  Darien bows his head over Kevin and
    hugs his body, rocking back and forth, grieving.  He lays Kevin down,
    looks over his shoulder, and runs.)
    (Next scene – Arnaud and Huisclos walk around the shot up lab.)
    Terrorist talking over walkie-talkie:  “Come in Arnaud, we have
    something.  We’re in the main hallway, over.”
    Arnaud:  “We’re on our way.”
    (Next scene – main hallway – Arnaud pushes through the group and sees
    the dead terrorist on the floor.  His white t-shirt is exposed, and
    written on it in blood are the words, “See you soon…Will you see me?”
    Arnaud (exasperated):  “Little prick.”  (He turns and walks away  The
    rest follow.)
    (Next scene – Darien drives the F&G van out of the complex and
    through the checkpoint.  While driving down a deserted road, we hear
    Darien’s voice-over.)
    Darien:  “I could feel the quicksilver madness building in my brain,
    attacking my sanity like clockwork.  I knew going invisible just made
    it worse.” (grabs back of his head and yells.  He looks in the rear
    view mirror, his eyes are bloodshot.  He rubs them, they are normal.)
    “Without the counteragent, I only had days before the gland turned
    me back into a walking id.  There was no choice.  If I was gonna get
    payback for Kevin, I had to get the last part of him out of me.”
    (Next scene – The van is parked under a sign that says “Mammoth –
    Medical Supplies)
    (Next scene – Eddie the Mammoth is studying an x-ray of Darien’s
    skull.  Darien is sitting on a table.  He is smoking a cigarette.)
    Eddie:  “OK kid, I’m gonna take a whack at it.”
    Darien:  “Take a whack at it?  Eddie, come on, this is my brain we’re
    talking…”
    Eddie:  “Hey, hey, relax kid, it’s Eddie the Mammoth.  I’m the one
    who took 8 bullets out of Charlie Iellos hippocampus.  How you
    feeling otherwise?”
    Darien:  “Pretty good.”
    Eddie:  “You’re not drinking or anything.  Your liver is good, your
    kidneys are good.
    Darien:  “Oh yeah, it’s good.”
    Eddie:  “And you do have an organ donor card?”
    Darien:  “Sure.”  (short pause)  “Why?”
    Eddie:  “You just stay right there.  I gotta make a quick call.”
    (Eddie leaves the room.  Darien looks around and sees a refrigerated
    unit with thermos containers with labels that say “Human Organs –
    Handle With Care/Human Kidneys – Handle With Care.  He realizes that
    Eddie may be planning on harvesting his organs.  He hops off the
    table, grabs the x-ray, and runs.)
    (Next scene – he is parked outside a hospital)
    Darien Voice-over:  “No, I had to face facts.  There was only one
    person I could look to now.”  (He is looking at a wallet size picture
    of him and Casey)  “And she was the last one who would want to see
    me.”
    (Next scene – Casey is in a hospital room bandaging a boy’s wrist.
    Darien is peeking through the window in the door.  She is speaking to
    the boy to put him at ease.)
    Casey:  “Ten!  Do you have any older brothers?”
    Boy:  “Yes, two.  Two older brothers.”
    Casey:  “Two older brothers!  So, what do you want to be when you
    grow up?”
    Boy:  “I want to be a fireman.”
    Casey:  “Really!  Well, when I was little, I wanted to be a rodeo
    clown, but my dad was really pushing biochemistry, and my mom was in
    that whole 90’s neurophysics craze.  So they kind of made me split
    the difference with this MD/PHD program at Hopkins.  I said, “Guys,
    I’m seventeen.”
    Darien voice-over:  “They say memory is a luxury only those who go
    straight can afford.  But for Casey O’Claire, I’d always empty my
    pockets.”
    (During her speech and the voice-over, the camera is on Casey’s face.
    Now it pulls back to reveal Darien sitting in the chair having his
    hand bandaged approximately one year earlier.)
    Casey:  “What do you do, Mr. Fawkes?”
    Darien:  “Oh, I, ah, well, I’m ah,” (glances at a Red Cross blood
    donation poster hanging nearby) “I’m in humanitarian aid.”
    (Next scene – Darien and Casey are having a quiet dinner together.
    The camera pans past some photos.)
    Casey:  “Thank you, Darien.  I haven’t had an evening like this in a
    long time.”
    Darien:  “No, you know, me neither actually.  Case, look, I kinda
    gotta come clean about something here.  I mean I’m…  I mean I’m
    really ah,  (chickens out)  I’m really looking forward to seeing you
    again.”
    (Next scene – the camera pans past some pictures of Darien and Casey.
    It is obviously later in their relationship.  They are sitting on a
    couch talking.)
    Darien:  “Now I don’t want you to feel rushed.”
    Casey:  “I don’t feel rushed.  What’s wrong.”
    Darien:  “Well, you now, I’m just afraid that you don’t really know
    me.”
    Casey:  “I know you’re good.  And I know you’re gentle.  And I know
    you’d never hurt me.  I trust you.”  (She leans over and kisses him.)
    (Next scene – Darien and Casey are standing up, holding each other,
    talking)
    Darien:  “You know baby, I think I could do it.  I think I could
    quit.”
    Casey:  “Why would you quit UNICEF for me?”
    Darien:  “Well, you know, it’s just, I’m trying you know.  I mean I
    am really, really trying.”
    Casey:  “Darien, what are you trying to do?”
    (Switch to the courtroom scene, the old man is on the stand saying,
    “He tried to have his way with me.  I can still feel his hands
    groping me.  Bastard!  I’m telling you, that son of a bitch robbed me
    of my manhood.”  (Darien swivels around to look at Casey.  She is
    furious.)  “What am I gonna tell my grandchildren?  God, I feel so
    violated.)
    (Next scene – Darien looking through the window at Casey bandaging
    the boy.  She looks up, but he is gone.  (Voice – Dr. Mackey to
    Radiology)
    (Next scene – Casey is going through some folders on a shelf.  The
    camera pulls back to show Darien standing just inside the door.)
    Darien:  “Hey Case.  CASEY!!!  If you ever loved me, don’t leave!”
    (He follows her across the room.  She turns to confront him)  “Thank
    you baby, thank you for believing…” (She punches him in the stomach)
    “Oh!  Oh, OK, no you’re right, I deserved it.”  (She slaps his face
    hard)  “Oh, boy, that hurt!”  (She walks away)  “Look Case, Case, I’m
    sick.”  (She turns around and he gives her the puppy dog eyes.)
    (Next scene – Darien and Casey are walking down a hallway)
    Casey:  “Come on, Darien!”
    Darien:  “What?”
    Casey:  “You’re telling me that someone micro-grafted a synthetic
    bio-partition to your cerebral cortex.  Do you know how lame that
    sounds?”
    Darien:  “Yeah, of course, when you say it like that.”
    Casey:  “It’s a physical impossibility Darien.”
    Darien:  “Casey, I showed you the x-ray.”
    Casey:  “This?”
    Darien:  “Yeah!”
    Casey:  “This looks like you could have gotten it from Kinkos.”
    Darien:  “Come on, I got it from a doctor.”
    Casey:  “Fine.  Let’s hear it from him, Darien.”
    Darien:  “Fine.  It’s 555-1293.”  (Casey punches the number into the
    phone)
    Casey:  “What’s his name?”
    Darien:  “Eddie the Mammoth.”  (Casey hangs up the phone)  “What?
    He’s a licensed physician.  Hey Case, would you come on.  Why would I
    lie about this?”
    Casey:  “Oh, I don’t know Darien.  Maybe for the same reason you
    conned me.”
    Darien:  “No, no, no, wait, wait a minute.  Wait a minute.  That was
    different.  That wasn’t even technically a con.”
    Casey:  “That wasn’t technically a …”  (She shoves Darien into an
    empty room)
    Darien:  “What?  What?”
    Casey:  “You told me you worked for UNICEF.  You told my mother that
    you worked for UNICEF.”
    Darien:  “What was I supposed to say to your mother?”
    Casey:  “360 days I am falling in love with a total lie, and that is
    not technically a con?”
    Darien:  “No, no, see a con is for profit.  I did that because I…”
    Casey:  “What?”
    Darien:  “I did it because…  Come on Case!”
    Casey:  “What do you want from me Darien?  You say your brother did
    this to you, go to him.”
    Darien:  “I can’t.”
    Casey:  “Why?  You break his heart too?”
    Darien:  “No.  I got him killed.  You wanted the truth Case.  He died
    in my arms.”
    Casey:  (taking a deep breath):  “OK Darien.  Alright.  What is going
    on?”
    Darien:  I just need you to get this thing out of me.”  (They look at
    the x-ray again.)
    Casey:  “Yeah, but you haven’t told me what it is.”
    Darien:  “No, no, I can’t darlin, people are dying over this.  I
    can’t get you involved.”
    Casey:  “And since when have you been Mr. Selfless.”
    Darien:  “OK, look Case, I am trying to get justice for Kevin.  OK,
    you get involved, I’ve got to get justice for you.  You know.  Then
    it just becomes this whole big thing.  You know what I mean?”
    Casey:  “You just can’t stop can you?”
    Darien:  “Stop what?”
    Casey:  “Playing games.”
    Darien:  “Case, I’m not playing…”
    Casey:  “You are.  And the stupidest thing is how badly I still want
    to believe you.”
    Darien:  “Listen to me.  I swear on my brother’s grave I’m not
    playing games with you.”
    Casey:  “Then prove it.”
    Darien:  “OK.  Alright, just, you can’t tell anyone what you’re not
    gonna see.”
    (Darien backs up, turns around, does some deep breathing, turns
    around, and yells ‘HA!”  Nothing happens.  Casey turns away and
    Darien looks down and realizes he is still visible.  He pushes her
    out the door.)
    Casey:  “Darien!”
    Darien:  “I can do this.  Just give me a second.”
    (You can hear Darien inside saying “Come on, here we go, you da man,”
    several times while Casey stands outside of the office confused.
    Then you hear him say, “Damn it!”  Inside you can see he’s still
    visible.  Suddenly, he grabs the back of his head in pain and goes
    down on one knee.  He knocks over a cart of medical supplies.  Casey
    comes in and finds him on his knees, groaning, and clutching the back
    of his head.)
    Casey:  “Are we about finished Darien?  Darien, enough is enough.  I
    don’t have time for…”
    (Darien looks up and she sees his bloodshot eyes)
    Casey:  “Oh my God!”
    (Darien attacks her and pushes her up against the wall.  She yells,
    “Darien, stop!”
    Darien:  “Get away from me, get away…”  (He runs out of the room,
    down the hall, and out of the hospital, back to the van.  He
    struggles with the pain, trying to regain control.)
    Darien voice-over:  “It took all my will to put the demon back in
    it’s bottle.  But even that couldn’t prepare me for what was coming
    next.”
    (A guy in a dark suit and dark glasses is standing on the sidewalk
    staring at Darien.)
    Darien:  “Who the hell are you?”
    (He is hit from behind by a second guy.)
    Darien voice-over:  “I had no idea who they were, but I can tell you
    this much.  Their car was really cheap.”
    (Next scene - The Official’s office.  Darien is unconscious, sitting
    in a chair.  One of the agents uses smelling salts to bring him
    around.)
    The Official (TO):  “Good morning, Mr. Fawkes.”
    Darien:  “Who the hell are you?”
    Eberts:  “Security prohibits him from giving his actual name, Mr.
    Fawkes.  For now you can simply call him The Official.”
    Darien:  “The official what?”
    Eberts:  “Oh, don’t worry, you’re safe.  You’re at The Agency.”
    Darien:  “The Agency.”
    TO:  “We’re the guys who underwrote your brother’s project.”
    Darien:  “CIA?”
    TO:  “Not exactly.”
    Darien:  “NSA?”  (TO points over his shoulder at the big federal seal
    on the wall)  “Department of Fish and Game.  Ah Jeez, you gotta be
    freakin kidding me.”
    TO:  “No, they’re just our temporary sponsors.  The Department of
    Defense had a few cutbacks this year.  But Fish and Game had a
    surplus, so we kinda got absorbed.”  (TO starts to leave the room)
    “Darien!”  (Everyone leaves the room and starts walking down a long
    hallway)
    Darien:  “Hey wait, wait, wait.  How the hell did you guys find me?
    You got like an Audubon Society spy satellite or something?”
    TO”  “We staked out your girlfriend’s hospital.  Then we jumped you.”
    Eberts:  “One needs to be resourceful when one is underfunded.”
    Darien:  “Yeah, well you know what?  I don’t appreciate being
    kidnapped.”
    TO”  “No?  Well maybe you appreciate this.”  (He hands Darien a
    picture, then walks away.)
    Darien:  “Arnaud.”  (shot of a picture of Arnaud without glasses.
    Darien looks at the 2 agents in black behind him, then starts jogging
    down the hall to catch up to TO and Eberts)  “Hey, you got anymore of
    these?”
    (Next Scene - several outside and inside shots of Arnaud’s hacienda)
    Voice in French:  “Attention Monsieur La Range!”  (I think they are
    saying Attention Mr. Rat, but my knowledge of French is almost
    non-existent.  They are saying it loudly to frighten the rat so he
    will quicksilver.  He does.  We see Huisclos and Dr. Ingrim watching
    the cage, but we don’t see the rat.  We then hear a sound like
    desilvering, then Huisclos gets angry.)
    Huisclos:  (grabbing Dr. Ingrim by his lapels):  “You said you
    wouldn’t hurt it!”
    Dr. I.:  “I told you, I can’t recreate the gland effectively until
    you give me that last microdisk.”
    Huisclos:  “And I told you Ingrim, the disk is in transit!”
    (Huisclos pushes Ingrim away and storms out of the room.  The camera
    pans down to the rat’s cage and we see a bloody blob and hear
    sizzling noises.)
    (Next scene – We see an x-ray of an intestinal tract.  Arnaud draws a
    circle around the microdisk.  Huisclos walks in.)
    Huisclos:  “Anything?  Merde!”
    Arnaud:  “Patience.  It can’t stay in there forever.”
    Huisclos:  “It doesn’t have to.  The auction is in 3 days.  What are
    you going to do?  Are you going to walk in there empty handed?  Oh,
    the disk is in here.”  (Points to his torso.)
    Arnaud:  “My hands are never empty.”
    Huisclos:  “No, there’s too much blood on them.  (Huisclos pulls out
    a bottle of Pepto Bismol and swallows a mouthful.)
    Arnaud:  “Oh dear, have I aggravated your little ulcer?”
    Huisclos:  “You promised me Arnaud.  You said after we finished this
    I could quit.”
    Arnaud:  “Did I?”
    Huisclos:  “Oh, dammit!  Haven’t I done enough for you?”
    Arnaud:  “No man can do enough for his brother.”
    Huisclos:  “You’re insane.  INSANE!  I don’t know what is going to
    cost you more in the end, your arrogance or this irregularity.”
    Arnaud:  “Question my bowels all you like, Huisclos, but never, ever
    doubt my will.”  (Arnaud holds up a small scalpel.)
    (Next scene – someone is spreading a brown antiseptic on someone
    prepped for surgery.  We see hands in rubber gloves choosing surgical
    instruments.  We then see Arnaud performing surgery on himself while
    his brother holds a mirror over him, and 2 medical personnel look on.
    He asks his brother to stop shaking the mirror.  He finally pulls
    the microdisk out of his intestinal tract.)
    (Next scene – A computer screen states:  Disk unreadable.  Would you
    like to try another?)
    Dr. Ingrim:  “It’s not my fault.  Your stomach acid must have
    corrupted it.  Forgive me, but without that data, there’s nothing
    more that I can do.”  (Arnaud holds the scalpel up to Dr. Ingrim’s
    face)  “Unless I had Fawkes original gland to work from.”
    Huisclos:  “Good luck finding him.  He’s probably long gone by now.”
    (Arnaud slashes the back of Huisclos hand with the scalpel.)
    Arnaud:  “We don’t need your attitude, brother.  We just need Darien
    Fawkes.”
    (Next scene – The Official’s office.  Darien is looking at different
    pictures of Arnaud)
    Eberts:  “We believe your Arnaud de Thiel may very well be Arnaud de
    Phoen.”
    Darien:  “The Phone.”
    TO:  “DE PHOEN!  His nomme de guerre.  It’s Swiss-German for Savage
    Alpine Wind.”
    Eberts:  “It also means hairdryer.”
    TO:  “Interpol calls him the Swiss bank of terrorism.  He supplies
    other organizations with weapons, funds…”
    Eberts:  “Somehow he managed to infiltrate your brother’s team.”
    TO:  “And that’s just the start.  Word is 8 terrorist groups just
    sent their buyers to his hacienda.  Seems De Phoen is having a little
    auction.”
    Eberts:  “Quicksilver to the highest bidder.”
    TO:  “Invisible suicide bombers…”
    Eberts:  “See-thru assassins…”
    TO:  “Not a pretty picture.”
    Darien:  “Yeah, well I didn’t draw it.”
    TO:  “No, but you can erase it.”
    Eberts:  “You can steal the quicksilver formula back for us.”
    Darien:  “Me?  What about the CIA or NSA?”
    Eberts:  “You’re our best weapon, and frankly, this incident has been
    a bit embarrassing for The Agency.  We’d prefer to keep it, ah, …”
    TO:  “Under the hoopa.”
    Darien:  “You’re telling me the rest of the government doesn’t even
    know about this project?  (long pause)  Oh Jeez.  Oh, so, so you
    screwed up and now, now I’m supposed to save your ass.  You know
    what?  I don’t think so.”
    TO:  Excuse me, but who is the one with his brain turning to Alpo?
    You need the counteragent, we need the formula.  You get them back to
    us, with De Phoen, we’ll get you back to normal.”
    Darien:  “Let me ask you a question.  Why would you trust me?  I
    could just make a deal with him.”
    TO:  “Yeah, sure, you could.  But will he give you what you’re really
    looking for, like, Oh I don’t know, justice?”
    (Shot of Darien holding a bloody, bullet-ridden Kevin in his arms)
    Darien:  “That is a crock of blatant manipulation.”
    TO:  “Yeah.  But as crocks of blatant manipulation go, it’s pretty
    good.”
    (Darien, exasperated, sits back in his chair.  He says Jesus Christ
    under his breath.)
    (Next scene – a bunch of random scenes of Mexico.  Then we see Darien
    standing in a Mexican marketplace)
    TO’s voice-over:  “Our intelligence puts De Phoen’s safe house
    somewhere in northern Mexico.  Now, you’re not going in alone.  We’re
    linking you up with our best deep cover agent.  He’ll identify
    himself to you by the standard methods.”
    (Darien is holding half a business card.  He is casually looking
    around for his contact.  He makes eye contact with another American
    dressed in a dark suit.  The guy walks over and says, “You expecting
    someone?”)
    Darien:  “My better half.”
    (The man smiles and pulls out his business card to match it to
    Darien’s card.  They don’t match.  The man says, “Sorry.  My
    mistake.”  He puts his card away, looks around, and wanders off.)
    (Suddenly Darien hears someone say, “Oh, that was smooth.”  He turns
    around and we see Bobby Hobbes sipping on a tropical drink.  Hobbes
    walks up to him, pulls out his card, and after Darien hesitates says,
    “Go on.  Do you think I’d be your frickin friend if you didn’t have a
    frickin card?”
    (Darien pulls out his card and matches them up)
    Hobbes:  “See?  Let’s get you outta here.  You stand out like a
    Cossack at a bar mitzvah.”
    Darien:  “Hey, wait, wait, wait.  I understand that you have some
    info for me.”
    Hobbes:  “Excuse me?  No.  I think you have some info for me.  Some
    very important info.  So what’s the deal.  What did The Agency tell
    you about it?”
    Darien:  “About what?”
    Hobbes:  “What do you mean about what?  What you think about what?
    My raise.”
    Darien:  “Actually, they didn’t mention it.”
    Hobbes:  (visibly upset):  “Didn’t say anything about a, about a,
    about a raise?”
    Darien:  “No.”
    (Hobbes rubs his head, upset, then walks away.  Darien still stands
    there, confused.)
    Hobbes:  “Come on!”
    Darien:  “I’m coming.  Hold on.”
    (Next scene – Darien and Hobbes are sitting at a beach front food
    place called Cocos Helados.  Hobbes is eating and drinking his
    tropical drink.  Darien has a beer.)
    Hobbes:  “I wasn’t just in Beirut, I was Beirut.  Let me show you
    something.  Take a look at this.”  (Pulls out a picture, shows it to
    Darien.)  “Look at that.  Arafat.  Me with Arafat.  Bunny we used to
    call him.  What a tool!  Yeah, they were some days man, when I was
    with the company.  You’re not interested in any of this?”
    Darien:  “I don’t even know what the hell you’re talking about here.
    I mean, look, in case you haven’t noticed, we have a bit of a
    terrorist problem on our hands here.”
    Hobbes:  “Yeah, who do you think uncovered it genius?  Folks got the
    dirt bags swarming in here like flies.  Even the cops have left.
    Everyone’s freakin paranoid.  They whack you if you even sneeze like
    a government agent.”
    Darien:  “Oh yeah?  How come you’re still breathing?”
    Hobbes:  “Cause I’m too good for my own good.  What?  You don’t
    think?  Why don’t you pull out your wallet?  Go ahead, pull it out.”
    (Darien searches for his wallet.  Hobbes pulls it out of his jacket
    pocket and puts it on the table in front of Darien.)
    Darien:  “Hobbes.  My dog can pick a pocket, OK?”
    Hobbes:  “Yeah?  Can your dog make out a terrorist?”
    (Darien looks over his shoulder and sees a one-eyed man stab a melon
    with a knife while another man looks on.)
    Hobbes:  “Not them.  Them!”
    (Darien looks over his shoulder again and sees a man and a woman
    kissing.  Their hand luggage has red Canadian maple leafs on them.)
    Darien:  (sarcastically):  Canadian terrorists.  (He laughs)
    Hobbes:  “You think that’s funny?  That’s “Free Quebec” militia my
    friend.”
    Darien:  “Nice.”
    Hobbes:  “They took out 100 agents last year alone.  Haven’t made me
    yet.  Nobody makes Bobby Hobbes!”
    Darien:  “Look, will you focus here?  What is going on with Arnaud’s
    safe house?”
    Hobbes:  “What about it?  It’s here.”
    Darien:  “What?  It’s here?”
    Hobbes:  “Yeah.”
    Darien:  “You found it?”
    Hobbes:  “I haven’t found it.  Frickin Agency isn’t paying me enough
    for that crap.  Why?  What are they paying you?”
    Darien:  “Sorry, what?”
    Hobbes:  “What are they paying you?”
    Darien:  “What are they paying…  Hobbes, I don’t think that is really
    important.”
    Hobbes:  “Come on, we’re partners, aren’t we?  What are you?  GS2,
    GS3, what?”
    Darien:  “They mentioned something like, was it a GS6 or something?”
    Hobbes:  “GS6.”
    Darien:  “Is that good?”
    Hobbes:  (slams his fist down on the table):  “What makes you so
    special?  I have been out here year after year, day after day,
    busting my butt… (Hobbes looks up at the Canadians, who are still
    necking and kissing.)  “Oh crap!”
    Darien:  “What?”
    Hobbes:  “You just blew our cover.”
    Darien:  “Oh, I just blew our cover.”
    Hobbes:  “Yes.  They just made us.  No, no, no, don’t look, don’t
    look, don’t look.”
    Darien:  “Would you relax?  It looks like they’re making each other
    Hobbes.”
    Hobbes:  “Stand up slowly and walk to the street.  Do it.”
    Darien:  “Look Hobbes, will you just calm down.”
    Hobbes:  “Do as I say.  You’re out of your league.”  (Gets up and
    walks away)
    Darien:  “Oh, I’m out of my league, out of my league.  Just what
    league would that be?  Oh, of course, the psycho secret agent
    softball league.”  (Gets up and walks over to where Hobbes is
    standing.)
    Darien:  “Look, Hobbes, Hobbes, you want to play James Bond, why
    don’t you do it on your own time?  I’m trying to get my life
    together.  (Hobbes rolls over a counter and ducks out of sight.)
    “What?  Are you insane?”
    Hobbes:  “Behind you!”
    Darien:  “What?”
    Hobbes:  “Look!”
    (Darien turns around and sees the Canadian couple cocking their
    guns.)
    Darien:  “Aw crap.”
    (Hobbes reaches over the counter, grabs Darien’s jacket, and hauls
    him over the counter and onto the floor.  A gun battle ensues.
    Hobbes pulls a large gun out of his jacket and returns fire.)
    Hobbes:  “You run for it, I’ll cover you.”
    Darien:  “Hey Hobbes, not that I wouldn’t like to leave…”
    Hobbes:  “Just go dammit!  When you get to the hotel ask for a valet
    named Rousseau.”  (Returns more fire)  “He’ll give you a satchel and
    a bottle.”  (Returns more fire)  “Looks like aspirin.”  (Returns more
    fire.  When he ducks back down behind the counter this time, Darien
    isn’t there.)  “Now when you get there…”  (Turns, sees Darien is
    gone)  “Ah, Fawkes!  You freakin yellow belly!”
    (Shot of a taxi with it’s hood being closed, but no one is there.
    The engine starts.  Back to the gun battle.)
    Hobbes:  “Screw the Expos!”  (He shoots 2 handguns at the same time
    until they are both empty.  Just then the taxi pulls up along side
    him and the door opens.  It looks like there is no one inside.)
    Darien:  “Get in!”  (Hobbes just looks at the taxi.)  “Ah, come on,
    who the hell do you think it is?”
    (Hobbes jumps into the taxi and they speed away.  The Canadians
    continue to shoot at the taxi.  The camera shows us the front of the
    taxi.  We can see Hobbes, but not Darien.  Hobbes looks at the side
    mirror and a bullet breaks it.  The camera shows us the front of the
    taxi and now both men are visible.  They look at each other.)
    Hobbes:  “Is that supposed to impress me?  (Darien looks away
    grinning.)
    (Next scene – The 2 Canadians pick up Darien’s wallet and start going
    through it.  The camera gives us a close-up of the wallet, then pulls
    away to show that Arnaud is now going through it.)
    Huisclos:  “Our Canadian guests saw him with a U.S. intelligence
    agent.  My guess is he is probably looking for us.”
    Arnaud:  “I can’t believe it.  Half my men are combing the states for
    him and the idiot shows up in my own backyard.  (Arnaud stops.  He is
    in pain.  Huisclos offers Arnaud his bottle of Pepto Bismol.  Arnaud
    knocks it out of his hand.  Arnaud unbuttons his shirt to check his
    bandage.  He is bleeding again.)
    Huisclos:  “The matter is simple then.  We could just lure him here.”
    Arnaud:  “Yes, that would have been a good idea if those maple
    suckers hadn’t used him for target practice!  Fawkes will be extra
    cautious now.  He’ll go to ground, hide.  We need something to draw
    him out into the open.  (Arnaud looks in the wallet, finds the
    picture of Darien and Casey.)
    (Next scene – Casey is at Eddie The Mammoth’s office)
    Casey:  “I know that patient information is confidential Dr. Mammoth,
    but what I …”
    Eddie:  “Call me Eddie.”
    Casey:  “Eddie.  I need to know exactly what Darien told…”
    Eddie:  “I told you.  He said he was in some kind of an experiment.
    And he needed whatever it was taken out.”
    Casey:  “Yeah, but what…”  (coughs from the cigarette smoke)
    Eddie:  “You feeling alright?”
    Casey:  “Yes, I’m fine, thank you.”
    Eddie:  “How’s your liver and your kidneys?”
    (Casey’s cell phone rings)
    Casey:  “Excuse me, just a minute.  Hello?”
    Voice:  “Dr. O’Claire please.”
    Casey:  “Yes.”
    Voice:  “Dr. Casey O’Claire?”
    Casey:  “Yes, this is she.”
    Voice (with a southern accent):  “Well, I’m terribly sorry to bother
    you Ma’am, but my name is Harley Griffin, and I work with the Central
    Intelligence Agency , CIA, and I believe that we have a mutual
    concern.”  (Shot of Arnaud talking on the phone)  “A gentleman by the
    name of Darien Fawkes.”
    (Next scene – inside a church in Mexico)
    TO’s voice:  “Now wait a minute, wait a minute.  Where you, where are
    you calling from?  You calling from Mexico?  Are you on a cell phone?
    Do you have any idea what that costs?”
    Darien:  “Wait a minute.  Listen to me.  Do not talk to me about
    roaming charges OK.  I am roaming here in the land of homicidal
    Canadians.
    Hobbes:  “Can I talk to him just one second.  (Darien turns away from
    Hobbes to keep the phone.)  “Please.  Just one second.”
    (Shot of TO punching numbers into a calculator)
    Darien:  “You have to send me some backup.”
    TO:  Oh, I wouldn’t worry about it kid.  You’ve got Hobbes.”  (Hobbes
    is still trying to get the phone away from Darien.)
    Hobbes:  “Just one second please.  Give me the phone.  Give me the
    phone.”
    Darien:  “Hobbes needs Prozac, OK.  I need help.”
    TO:  Your needs! Your needs!  Is that all you ever think about.”
    Darien:  “Don’t pull that crap.  You need me.”
    TO:  “So what are you gonna do kid?  Quit?
    Darien:  “You know what?  You know what?  I just might.  Because let
    me tell you, I would rather live crazy than die sane.”
    TO:  “Oh.  Too bad about your girlfriend then.”
    Darien:  “What?”
    (Hobbes grabs the cell phone from Darien and points his gun at Darien
    so he can keep it.)
    Hobbes:  “Listen, you son of a bitch.  I was promised a 10% hike for
    combat.  You… what… what…” (turning to face Darien)  “Your girlfriend
    just skipped town.”
    Darien:  “What?”
    Hobbes:  “The bimbo took off.  Are you a member of some Abba Fan
    Club?”
    Darien:  “Abba Fan Club?”
    Hobbes:  “Yeah, they sent you a fax.”
    Darien:  “What’s it say?  What’s it say?”
    Hobbes:  “What’s it say?  What’s it say? …  If you want to see her
    alive again, find fear in the phone book.  What the hell does that
    mean, fear in the phone book?”
    Darien:  “I don’t know.”
    Hobbes:  “Alright, listen to me you fat bastard, it is stipulated in
    my contract…”
    (Next scene - Casey is looking at pictures of Darien standing over
    Kevin’s bloody body.  She is in the back seat of Arnaud’s car.  They
    are driving down a dusty, deserted road in Mexico.)
    Arnaud:  “I’m sorry we were so late picking you up, and I regret that
    it was under such circumstances.”
    Casey:  “He couldn’t have done this.  Not Darien.”
    Arnaud:  “You’ve seen his behavior, Dr. O’Claire.  Would you call
    that rational?”
    Casey:  “But it doesn’t make any sense.  Why would he come down
    here?”
    Arnaud:  “The fact is, his brother’s experiment left him a bi-polar
    wrecking ball.  He’s completely delusional.  Poor fool even thinks
    that he can turn invisible.  He’s gone crazy.”
    Casey:  “What do you propose that we do?”
    Arnaud:  “Well, as I explained on the phone, it’s vital that we reach
    him before he harms someone else, and he seems to respond to your
    presence, so I was hoping we could use it to draw him out of hiding.”
    Casey:  “You want to use me as bait.”
    Arnaud:  “We can operate from The Agency safe house, that is if
    you’re willing to help.”
    (Casey puts her head down in her hand like she is going to cry.
    Huisclos hands her a handkerchief.)
    Casey:  “Thank you.”  (She sees his slashed hand)  “Your hand!”
    Arnaud:  “It’s nothing.”
    Casey:  “Nothing!  It’s completely infected.  Hold still.  I have
    some Bacitrace in my bag.”  (Arnaud rolls his eyes.  He is in the
    front seat so Casey doesn’t notice.)
    Huisclos:  “You are very kind.”  (Arnaud and Huisclos exchange a look
    while Casey is taking care of Huisclos’ hand.)
    (Next scene - Darien and Hobbes are at an outdoor phone on a street
    corner.  Hobbes is looking through a phone book while Darien is
    looking in a Spanish/English dictionary.)
    Darien:  “Try miedo.”
    Hobbes:  “We already did miedo.”
    Darien:  “Why don’t you try it again.”
    Hobbes:  “I just did it!”
    Darien:  “Why don’t you try it again now, okay?  (Darien tries to
    grab the phone book, but Hobbes keeps hold of it.)
    Hobbes:  “I can do it!  Just…relax you.  Miedo.  There’s no miedo,
    there’s no timor, there’s no frickin fear in the frickin phone book!”
    (Darien slams the dictionary down on top of the pay phone.  He looks
    down and sees a spider climbing up the pole.)
    Darien:  “What’s Spanish for spider?”
    (Next scene - Darien and Hobbes are standing outside of La Arana
    Loncheria.  They go inside.)
    Cook:  “Are you him?”
    Darien:  “Him?”
    Cook:  “El Hombre Invisible.”
    Darien:  “What if I was?”
    Cook:  “Then there would be a message for you.”
    Darien:  “Oh yeah?  And would you give it to me?”
    Cook:  “I could.  But he asks that you get it yourself.”
    (The cook motions with his eyes and head for Darien to look behind
    him.  He turns and sees a large glass tank with spiders crawling in
    it and on it.  Darien looks at the Cook, then at Hobbes.)
    Hobbes:  “Go ahead…GS6.”
    (Darien reluctantly walks toward the glass tank.  There is sand on
    the bottom with a letter partially buried in it.  2 spiders are
    crawling on it.)
    Hobbes to Cook:  “Uno hambergasa, por favor.”
    Cook:  “Right away.”
    (Darien figures out how to reach in and snatch the letter without
    touching the spiders.  Hobbes walks over to him.)
    Hobbes:  “That was very impressive.”
    (Darien opens the letter and starts reading it.)
    Hobbes:  “What is it?”
    Darien:  “It’s directions.”
    Hobbes:  “For what?”
    Darien:  “It says I should come alone or they’ll kill her.”
    Hobbes:  “Well, that’s what they always say.  You don’t believe that.
    Do you?  You’re not going to do this alone?  Listen, no matter what
    you may say, we’re partners.  And you know what that means?  Let me
    tell you something that I learned in a little playpen called Iraq.
    (To the cook):  How much?”
    Cook:  “20.”  (I’m not sure about this.  Can’t quite catch it on the
    tape.  Sorry.)
    Hobbes:  “I was in a trench right, knee deep in camel crap, shrapnel
    going right up my…”
    (We hear Darien quicksilver.  Hobbes turns around and doesn’t see
    Darien.  He turns back to the cook.)
    Hobbes:  “Give me my money.  Disappearing act.  (Hobbes goes towards
    the rear of the luncheonette.  The cook picks up a phone and dials.
    He is standing in front of a poster advertising the H. G. Wells
    Invisible Man movie.)
    (Next scene - Arnaud’s car pulls through the front gate of his
    hacienda.  His cell phone rings.)
    Arnaud:  “Griffin here.  I see, what time was that?  Yes, I
    understand.  John, would you show her inside please?  Dr. O’Claire,
    why don’t you go on in and make yourself comfortable.  I’ll be with
    you in just a moment.  Alright?
    Casey:  “OK.”
    Huisclos to the driver:  “You take the car and you bring it around to
    the side alright?  Then wait there.  Go, go, go!  (Driver leaves)
    Arnaud:  “OK, look.  Fawkes will be here any moment.  Give me the
    counteragent.  (Huisclos pulls 3 bottles of counteragent out of his
    pocket.  Arnaud takes one.)
    Arnaud: “Now listen.  We’ll keep her alive until he gets here, keep
    her occupied.  We’ll take care of her later.”
    Huisclos:  “What?”
    Arnaud:  “I said we’ll kill her later.”
    Huisclos:  “Is that what we’ll do?”
    Arnaud:  “Huisclos, now is hardly the time…”
    Huisclos:  “I don’t care.  She’s a good woman.  She’s very kind to
    me.  I’m not going to let you use her and then throw her away.  And I
    won’t let you use me.”
    Arnaud:  “OK, OK, I’m sorry.  We’ll just have to be a bit more
    creative.”  (Arnaud pulls out his gun, shoots Huisclos in the foot,
    then hits him on the head.  He makes sure Huisclos is unconscious,
    then walks away.)
    (Next scene - Darien riding the motor scooter from the loncheria
    across an open, desert like area.)
    (Next scene - Inside the hacienda.  Arnaud has 2 men bring an
    unconscious Huisclos into the livingroom.  Casey is there.)
    Arnaud:  “Come on.  Bring him in the livingroom and put him on the
    couch.”
    Casey:  “What happened?”
    Arnaud:  “Easy, easy, easy.  The idiot left his safety off.  He shot
    himself in the foot.  I think he’s in shock.”
    Casey:  “Elevate his foot, elevate his foot.”
    Arnaud:  “Do what she says!”
    Casey:  “Mr. Griffin, calm down.  I will take care of him.”
    Arnaud:  “Alright.  I’m going to go call an ambulance.”
    (Next scene - Arnaud walks outside the house, checks his gun, walks
    to the other end of the hacienda, and enters a door.  Then we see him
    enter and walk through an underground complex on the security
    monitors.  They are in normal mode.  He gets to his office.  Two men
    are already there.)
    Arnaud:  “Get your men ready.  He’s on his way.”  (Both men speak
    into headsets.)
    (Next scene - Darien is riding on the scooter.  He stops, gets off,
    walks a few steps, grabs the back of his head, and goes down on his
    knees having an attack.  He beats on the back of his head while he
    groans in pain.  You can hear the whispery voices in his head.  He
    starts to rise.)
    Darien:  “The attacks were unbearable now.  My sanity was slipping
    like a brick on a Frisco hill.  To go invisible might just push me
    over the edge.  But I had to try.  This wasn’t about me anymore.
    This was for my brother, my girl.  My conscience was calling, and it
    was time to get De Phoen.”  (Darien walks through a wooded area,
    heading for the hacienda.)
    (Next scene - Darien arrives at the hacienda.  He pulls out
    binoculars and checks out the area.)  Darien voice-over:  “Sound
    triggered alarms.  The slightest noise would set them off.  No, I
    guess invisibility alone wasn’t gonna cut it here.”  (We see Darien’s
    arm and watch turn invisible.)
    (Next scene - A computer layout of the hacienda is flashing and an
    alarm is sounding.  The words ‘Perimeter Breach’ are on the screen.)
    Arnaud:  “Perimeter breach!  First team go!”
    (4 men leave.  2 have fire extinguishers.  They run outside, then
    over to a large picture window.  After they spray the extinguishers,
    they find Darien’s watch, with the alarm going off.  We then see
    Darien’s point of view in quicksilver vision.  He looks around, then
    heads for the door the men came out of.  He goes through the door,
    and you can see his footprints on the mat outside.)
    (Next scene - Arnaud’s office)
    Arnaud:  “He’s here.  His exterior temperature is minus 10 degrees
    Centigrade.  Put on your goggles and set your instruments
    accordingly.  (Both men leave.)
    Arnaud:  “Take us to thermal imaging.  (He turns around to a bank of
    monitors.  We see a white image of Darien entering the building,
    coming down the staircase, and walking down a hallway.  Suddenly,
    Darien cries out in pain and crumples against a wall.)
    (Arnaud picks up a hand held device that is linked to the intercom
    system, and starts speaking.)  “Good afternoon Mr. Fawkes.  You’re
    not feeling very well are you?  It’s quicksilver madness.  Don’t
    worry.  It’s only going to get worse.”
    (Suddenly Arnaud’s second team enters the hallway.  They “see”
    Darien.  He sees them and starts running.  They shoot at him and
    miss.  They start chasing Darien through the complex while Arnaud
    watches on the monitors.)
    Arnaud:  “He’s in the weapons locker.”  (Arnaud pulls his gun, and
    goes to join his men.  He meets up with them and they head for the
    weapons locker.)
    Arnaud:  “Remember, don’t aim for the head!”
    (Just before they reach the locker, Darien bursts out of the door
    with a shotgun pointed at his head.)  Darien:  (shouts):  Nobody move
    or the gland gets it!”
    (The 4 men stand there pointing guns at each other in a Mexican stand
    off.)
    Darien:  “OK, back off.  I said (shouts and chambers the shotgun)
    BACK OFF!”
    (Arnaud puts his gun up.  He tells his men, “Do what he says.”  They
    start backing down the ramp.)
    Darien:  “It’s what you want isn’t it?  Then I’d highly suggest
    (shouting) you don’t screw with me!  Move, move, I want them back,
    back!
    Arnaud:  “Allay, allay!”
    Darien:  “Back.  OK guns down.  (shouting)  Guns down!”
    Arnaud:  “And what is it you want Monsieur?”
    Darien:  “I want her out of here right now.”
    Arnaud:  “No.  I mean what is it you really want?”  (He pulls out the
    bottle of counteragent.  Darien stares at it.)  “You can almost smell
    it, can’t you?  The counteragent.  You can’t resist.  Believe me I
    know. I helped design it that way.”  (Arnaud pulls out a syringe and
    starts filling it.)
    Darien:  “What?”
    Arnaud:  “You don’t think I would create an invisible man without a
    means to control him do you?  I mean, alone he’d be all powerful, but
    make him dependent on a drug, a counteragent…”
    Darien:  “My God!  You sound like a cheap pusher.”
    Arnaud:  “A regulator, Monsieur.  Terrorism is the currency of the
    21st century and quicksilver will corner the market.  I can sell the
    gland to as many zealots as I want, and their violence begets more
    violence.  And that’s fine because no matter where they go or what
    they do, they have to come back to me for this.”
    (Arnaud has been filling the syringe with counteragent while he was
    talking.  At the end of his speech he looks at Darien.  Darien
    suddenly looks as if he is caving in under too much pressure.  He
    slides down the wall he is leaning against and sits on the floor,
    still holding the shotgun.  Arnaud’s men move forward, but he waves
    them back.)
    Darien:  “That is a …  I mean that’s …  That’s a great scam!”
    Arnaud:  “You think?”
    Darien:  “Oh hell yeah.  It’s a license to print money.”
    Arnaud:  “Well then.  (Arnaud squats down beside Darien)  “Come on
    board.”
    Darien:  (slowly looks at Arnaud like a sleepwalker):  “You killed my
    brother.”
    Arnaud:  “So what?  I’ll kill mine.  We’ll be even.  We are the
    brothers, you and I.  Our natures are the same.”  (Arnaud stands up)
    “Besides, I’m the only one who knows how to take the gland out.”
    (Darien looks up at Arnaud with a stricken look on his face.  Arnaud
    offers his hand to Darien to help him up.  Darien looks at Arnaud’s
    hand, exhales loudly, and lowers the shotgun as if he is giving in.
    He puts his hand in Arnaud’s and Arnaud pulls Darien to his feet.
    Arnaud checks the needle in preparation for giving Darien the shot.
    Darien slides around the corner he is leaning against, cocking the
    shotgun as he goes.  The shotgun goes off.  Darien falls to the floor
    and his head is gone.  Arnaud screams, “No!”, and bends over Darien’s
    body.  Darien punches Arnaud in his stitches, grabs the syringe out
    of Arnaud’s hand, and runs down the hall.)
    Arnaud to guards:  “Go, go, go!”  (The guards run after Darien.
    Arnaud goes to his office to look for Darien on the monitors.)
    Arnaud:  “Where are you?  Where did you go?  (Arnaud hears a noise,
    then sees Darien on a monitor.  Arnaud runs down a hallway.  He runs
    into Dr. Ingrim’s lab.  Ingrim is lying on the floor mumbling.)
    Arnaud:  “Ingrim, where is he?  Where did he go?  Where is he?
    Where… for God’s sake, will you speak?”  (Arnaud points his gun at
    Ingrim.  Ingrim points to his mouth.  Suddenly a circle of grenades
    appear around the 2 men.  A grenade appears in Ingrim’s mouth.
    Arnaud says, “Little prick.”, and shuts his eyes.  The grenades go
    off and Darien is catapulted out the door he originally used to enter
    the complex.  Casey hears the explosion and goes to investigate.  She
    takes Huisclos’ gun.  She walks outside and finds Darien lying on the
    ground.  Smoke and flames are coming out of the door behind him.  She
    slowly walks up to him.  As she reaches him, he sits up.  She pulls
    the gun on him.)
    Casey:  “Stay back!”
    Darien:  “Hey baby.  Oh, no, no, no, Casey.  It’s not what you think.
    It’s gonna be OK, see I have…”  (He looks at his hands and realizes
    the syringe with the counteragent is broken.  The last of the
    counteragent slides down his hand as he watches helplessly.)
    Darien:  “Oh my God, oh my God!”
    Casey:  “What?”
    Darien:  “Oh my God!”  (Darien collapses and starts having another
    attack.)
    Casey:  “Darien!”
    Huisclos:  “Doctor!”  (He motions for her to take the syringe he is
    holding.  Darien is coughing and groaning on the ground.  She takes
    the syringe from Huisclos and gives him his gun.)
    Huisclos:  “This is a counteragent.  Give it to him.  It’s the only
    thing that will save him.  Take it!”
    (Casey goes to Darien, takes his arm, and helps him to his knees as
    she tries to give him the shot.)
    Casey:  “Darien hold still.  Hold still.”
    (She manages to give him the shot, then gently lowers him to the
    ground as he collapses.)
    (Next Scene – The Official’s office)
    Darien voice over:  “What’s past, they say, is prologue.  My partner
    found us a half hour later, just in time to take the credit.”  (Shot
    of Bobby opening an envelope.  He looks really excited.  Then he sees
    it is a $50 savings bond and his face falls.)  “Whatever you can say
    about him, he did deserve that raise.”  (Shot of Huisclos lying in a
    hospital bed talking to the authorities) “Huisclos confessed to
    everything.  In the end, the poor schmo felt so guilty, he’d of taken
    the rap for snatching the Lindbergh baby.”  (Shot of a hallway on
    fire)  “As for De Phoen, well, they never did find a body.  All I
    know is the flames meant for him took the last of my brother’s
    project.  With the lab destroyed, the quicksilver process, all of
    Kevin’s work, was lost forever.  And me, you ask… well, my brother’s
    legacy may have been out of sight, but it sure wasn’t out of my
    mind.”
    (Next scene – Casey and Darien at the hospital, looking at the x-ray
    of his head)
    Casey:  “I can’t take it out Darien.  Not without killing you.”
    Darien:  “Well, I guess, ah, that’s it then, game over.”
    Casey:  “Look, there still may be a chance.  If I can reproduce your
    brother’s process, figure out how he put the gland in in the first
    place…”
    Darien:  “Case, come on, I mean, that could take years.”
    Casey:  “Yeah, well, we won’t know if we don’t try right?  We’ll just
    have to start from scratch.”
    Darien:  “You’d stay with me?”
    Casey:  “I’ll help you.”
    Darien:  “That’s not what I meant.”
    Casey:  “I can’t offer anymore Darien.  (Darien looks down, totally
    depressed and unhappy.)
    Darien:  “Hey, you think maybe you and I can start from scratch?”
    Casey:  “We’ll see.
    (Darien looks at the x-ray and the camera pans in for a close-up of
    the x-ray.)
    (Next scene – The camera pans down from a big, leafy tree down to
    Kevin’s grave.  The gravestone says:  In Memory of Kevin Fawkes –
    1965 - 2000.)
    Darien:  “I believe in God, not cause I’m religious, but cause
    there’s gotta be a being with a bigger sense of irony than me.  After
    all this, I still needed the counteragent.  And there was only one
    person left I could turn to.”
    (We see Darien standing in front of Kevin’s grave.  We hear The
    Official say, “Good afternoon Mr. Fawkes.”  Darien turns around and
    we see The Official standing directly behind him.  Darien looks
    really unhappy to see him.)
    Darien:  “Let’s just say, ah, for the sake of argument, I got a .45
    in my pocket.”
    TO:  “I’d say, talk to them.”  (He motions with his head for Darien
    to turn around.  Two agents dressed in black suits step behind
    Darien.  Darien looks at one of them, then turns back to The
    Official.)
    TO:  “Come on, kid… We both knew it would end like this.”  (long
    pause)  (TO starts slowly walking towards Darien.  Darien takes his
    hands out of his pockets and looks like he is ready to run.  TO holds
    open his jacket and puts his hand inside, reaching for something.  He
    pulls out a form and holds it up to Darien.)
    TO:  “The W-4 you can fill out here.  But I’ll need your social
    security number for the I-9 form.”
    Darien (confused):  “Wait.  Wait a minute, wait a minute.  You trying
    to hire me?”
    TO:  “Come on kid, face facts.  It could be years before we figure
    out how to get you deglanded.  Why not make the best of it?”
    Darien:  “Hey, you know what?  Why don’t you save your breath OK?
    I’m not my brother.”
    TO:  “No but you’ve got a piece of him.”  (Points to Darien’s head)
    “You use it right, you could be more.”
    Darien:  “I don’t want to be more.  I just want to be me.”
    TO:  “Yeah?”
    Darien:  “Yeah.”
    TO:  “And who is that?”
    (Darien looks around, uncertain, trying to figure out what to say.)
    Darien:  “He’s the guy who is telling you to go screw off.”
    (Darien pushes the form back at The Official, turns and walks away.)
    TO:  “I thought you were the guy who needed the counteragent.”
    (Darien stops with a look of shock on his face, and turns around.
    The Official pulls a syringe out of his jacket.)
    TO:  “We salvaged enough data from the wreckage to reproduce it.  The
    way I see it, you need your shots, we need your services.”  (The
    Official puts the syringe away)  “Sounds like a trade to me.”
    Darien:  “No, sounds like the same scam Arnaud was gonna run.”
    TO:  “Yeah, yeah, yeah… It’s a good scam.”
    Darien:  “No, it’s not,  It’s not, it’s, it’s…”
    TO:  “Evil?”
    Darien:  “Yeah!”
    TO:  “Like my good old mom always said, “Anything done out of love is
    beyond good and evil.”  (laughs)  “Me, I love my job.”
    (Darien and The Official just stare at each other for a moment.  Then
    the Official puts his hand on Darien’s shoulder and says, “Come on.
    Let’s talk Pension Plan.”  They walk away from the grave.  The agents
    follow.)
