[Scene: Years ago. A children's bedroom, there are toys everywhere. A young girl pops up up from behind the toybox with a blue elephant.]

Karen: Stop police! Freeze!

(A young Nicole Scott walks over to Karen.)

Young Nicole Scott: Karen, I told you a million times! My doll's the detective, and your elephant's the bank robber.

Karen: Why do I always have to be the bad guy?

Young Nicole Scott: Okay then, you can be my assistant, but I call the shots!

(An angry mother comes to the door.)

Hatred Mother: Nicole! I don't you two to keep this door shut!

(The foster mother slams the door and walks away. Karen frowns.)

Karen: This place is scary.

(Nicole puts her hand on Karen's shoulder.)

Young Nicole Scott: You've only been here for a few weeks, you'll get used to it.

Karen: I wish I could go home.

(Nicole gives Karen a hug.)

Young Nicole Scott: It's okay Karen, I'm here, everything's going to be all right. (Whispering to herself.) I'm not gonna to cry, I'm not gonna cry.

[Present Time: Nicole opens her eyes. She's in Antonio's apartment. She smiles at Antonio next to her.]

Antonio: Hey.

Nicole: Hey.

Antonio: Are you okay?

Nicole: (giggles quietly) Yeah, sure.

Antonio: Nothing's wrong?

(She moves and puts her arm around him.)

Nicole: Well, somebody kept me up all night.

Antonio: Yeah well how could I possibly sleep with someone this perfect lying next to me?

Nicole: You were up all night, writing lines just like that!

Antonio: Hey, look I'm a guy.

(He kisses her on the neck.)

Antonio: I have an idea.

Nicole: What?

Antonio: Let's call in sick.

Nicole: Aah.

Antonio: Come on, take a warm bath...

Nicole: Mmm Hmm?

Antonio: Breakfast in bed...

Nicole: Mmm Hmm?

Antonio: Watch movies all day.

Nicole: I've got two words for you.

Antonio: Okay?

Nicole: John Polluck.

Antonio: Wow, oh I am so not in the mood now.

(He lays back, Nicole laughs and turns over so she's closer to him.)

Nicole: We could be just a little late though

Antonio: Just this once?

Nicole: I could go for some hot, (She kisses him) sweet, (She kisses him) fine

Antonio: (interrupts) Me too...

(They kiss.)

Nicole: Like that good old primo Cuban coffee you make.

(He sighs, as he was expecting something else. Nicole laughs.)

Antonio: Coffee....right.

(He gets out of bed. Nicole turns over, showing something's wrong, Antonio knows that something's wrong.)

Antonio: Nic?

Nicole: Yeah?

Antonio: What's wrong?

Nicole: Nothings wrong, I swear.

Nicole: Now how about some of that coffee?

(He walks out of the room. She giggles.)

[Scene: Parking Lot: A mom walks to her car with her four children, she holds a baby while a girl, an older and a younger boy, Danny, walk.]

Boy: I call shotgun.

Girl: No way! You rode in the front last time, you're such a hog!

Mother: Okay you two that's enough!

Boy: I'm the only one tall enough not to get crushed by the air bag doby.

Girl: You don't even know what doby means.

Mother: I said that's enough!

(Danny anxious to get away, runs.)

Mother: Danny stop!

(A black van starts coming toward him.)

Mother: Danny!

(Danny covers his eyes and doesn't move but the van misses him and keeps going, the family rushes over to him.)

Mother: Oh my god are you okay?

(The van stops and two men grab a woman who's packing groceries into her car. She screams.)

Mother: Stop stop! Someone help, a woman's been kidnapped!

[Scene: Main Lobby. Polluck, Nicole, Jess, Antonio, and Janey are there.]

Polluck: Good morning one and all. Got a new twist, we've got a kidnapping in a parking lot, we don't even know who was taken. Star witness was five years old, fortunately his mother was there too at the mall. (To Nicole) Please run out and talk to them (Nicole leaves.) (To Antonio) You'll scan the victims car. (Antonio leaves.) (To Janey) And you as well. (Janey leaves.)(To Jess.) And you my physic flower will wander through the great beyond.

Jess: Sir, we don't even have an ID on the victim yet, I don't think I'll get anything.

Polluck: Officialance agent, and exceed them. That's how I afford these suits.

[Scene: Mall. Nicole interviews the mother and her children.]

Mother: There was one man driving the van and another in the back. They were wearing ski masks.

Nicole: What about the woman they took, can you describe her?

Mother: Her back was turned, I never saw her.

Nicole: How about age, height, build, anything you can give me?

Mother: So sorry I wish I could help, I was just so worried about my kids.

(Nicole nods, understandingly.)

Nicole: You guys okay?

Boy: Yeah.

Girl: Yeah.

(Nicole walks over and squats down my Danny.)

Nicole: Hi Danny. I'm Nicole, can you tell me what the lady looked like?

Danny: I had my eyes closed like this.

(He shows her. Nicole smiles at his mom.)

Danny: The men in the masks are scary. (Nicole nods.) Are they gonna kidnap anyone else?

Nicole: Sweetie don't you worry, the FBI is taking care of it. Everything's gonna be all right.

Danny: Okay.

Nicole: Okay.

[Scene: A room. Janey and Jess watch the video of the kidnapping.]

Jess: There she is our missing woman. How am I supposed to connect to that?

Janey: I know you're so sensitive.

Jess: Lets do the outside cameras.

Janey: Victims vehicle is there, far right.

Jess: Okay, so she exits the mall, van pulls up, guy jumps out of the van, struggling. I don't know what she looks like, I don't know what she felt.

(Polluck walks up to them.)

Polluck: Terror and disorientation agent, thats what she felt.

Jess: I could have guessed that sir.

Polluck: You're about to shock it on me with your insight, I can, I can feel it.

Jess: Sir, none of the cameras show the victims face. I'm not connected yet.

Polluck: Then go try her car, Cortez has it in his chop shop.

Jess: Alright.

(She leaves.)

Polluck: Blow the tape up.

Janey: Sir, there's no point, the angle's wrong and enlarging it will just degrate the image.

Polluck: No, no, no, I mean take it outside, stuff if with C4 and blow the tape up! Okay, do something useful with your time agent.

Janey: I've turned up a string of similar abduction....

Polluck: In kept city, Ohio, women taken from parking lots and robbed. I'm following them myself. Why don't you go analyze the victims groceries.

Janey: Going now.

Polluck: Please.

[Scene: Chop Shop, Antonio walks in with a file.]

Antonio: We found one full set of prints on the interior, no matches in the system

Nicole: What about the car registration, that should give us a name.

Antonio: That's where it starts to get interesting. It's still registered to the used car lot that sold it nine months ago.

Jess: Well don't they have to know who they sold it to?

Antonio: Jayne Smith.

Nicole: Get out.

Antonio: I've got 22 pages here of possible matches. You starting to see a little pattern here?

Jess: It's like this woman is moving through life without leaving a trace.

Nicole: Everyone leaves something.

(Janey walks up to them with the woman's grocery bag.)

Janey: For one thing they have to eat.

(She dumps the bag.)

Janey: I've been going over the woman's groceries, one cup soup mix, mac and cheese for one, individually wrapped dinner...

Nicole: All single servings.

Antonio: No children of spouse.

Jess: Or life....

Janey: Had a better appearance though, eye wrinkle cream, hair dye to touch up the gray.

Nicole: So the woman is defiantly....

Antonio: (interrupts) A woman over 30, living alone.

Jess: Well that narrows it to about 2 million between here and Baltimore.

Nicole: No prescription, credit card receipts?

Janey: No, paid cash for everything....including these.

(She dumps out a bunch of locks.)

Nicole: Wow.

Antonio: Who needs that many locks?

Jess: Someone with a lot of doors.

Nicole: Someone with a lot of fear.

[Scene: Jess is watching the tape of the woman being kidnapped, Colin comes up behind her, and puts his hands around her eyes, it frightens her.]

Colin: Guess who?

(She jumps, and sees Colin.)

Jess: McNiel. You are going to get yourself hurt sneaking up on me like that.

Colin: I was being cautious, I wasn't sure how you'd to react.

Jess: Since you were stealing a car the first time we met?

Colin: Since I was undercover the first time we met.

Jess: What are you doing here?

Colin: Red about your case in the DOJ server, and I thought you could use a crack investigator from the Department of Justice.

Jess: And you couldn't find one so you showed up?

Colin: You're funny, not as funny as the thing, but still, you know...kind of funny

Jess: Look I don't mean to be rude...

Colin: You just come across it naturally?

Jess: But we didn't request any man power from the DOJ.

Colin: Okay, so you can't use my professional services, how about an evening meal?

Jess: You're asking me on a date?

Colin: Depends, is that a yes?

{Suddenly, Jess is pulled into a vision, she is on the van with the woman, but can't see her, the woman is trying to keep someone out.}

Woman's Voice: Help, someone please! Please!

Jess: Who are you?

Woman's Voice: Don't hurt me again!

Jess: Who are you?

Woman's Voice: Help me please!

{The vision ends.}

Colin: Something wrong? Hey you all right?

Jess: Yeah, um, I am.

(She stands up.)

Colin: Did ya see something on the tape?

Jess: Yeah, I did. If you will excuse me for a moment. I...

(She makes her way past Colin, in search of Nicole. Nicole comes walking her way.)

Nicole: Jess?

Jess: Hi. Hi.

Nicole: (She sees Colin) Hi. I'll come back later.

(Jess stops her.)

Jess: Nicole wait! (She turns around. To Colin) Uh I've got to go, (trying to be quieter) but um, about your offer....

Colin: It's cool, we'll talk later

(Nicole looks away and smiles.)

Nicole: Hi Colin.

Colin: Nicole.

(Colin walks away. They are silent for a minute and share a smile.)

Nicole: And what offer would that be?

Jess: No, he just uh, he wanted to help with the case....off the books.

Nicole: Girl he is not trying to work undercover. He is trying to get under your covers.

Jess: Okay, he also wants to take me for dinner.

Nicole: He asked you out? Aah! I knew it, I knew it.

Jess: No listen, something freaky just happened to me with the surveillance tape. I had a vision, but it felt like I went in the tape.

Nicole: Okay...all right um what did see?

Jess: The victim was trying to shut the van door, she was trying to keep someone out, and she was locking it with --

Nicole: A padlock? Like she bought today. Who was trying to get in?

Jess: I'm not sure, but whoever it was she was terrified of him.

(Polluck comes up to them.)

Polluck: Mastriani, Scott, with me please.

(They follow him)

{Nicole, Jess, Polluck, and Janey are over by the suspect board.}

Polluck: I caught a lead off the Ohio abductions, the main suspects are brother, George and Robert Mazer. Turns out they've relocated to our part of the woods. Woods in the operative term.

Janey: They're renting a cabin 6 miles form the abduction site. I've downloaded the spot onto everyone's GPS.

[Scene: Woods, Antonio, Nicole, Jess, and more of the FBI team are there.]

Nicole: Cabin's here, 50 yards up this path main force will circle around from the north. We'll be on the back in case they run southeast, southwest. We need to take these guys alive in case the woman isn't there. Got it?

(The teams runs up the hill, armed and ready. Nicole and Jess watch the cabin. Jess gets a vision. Same as before she is in the van, where the woman is trying to escape.)

Woman's Voice: Help please help! I can't stop him much longer!

Jess: Who are you?

Woman's Voice: I can't stop him!!

{Jess is snapped back into reality.}

Nicole: Jess we got a runner, your side!

(George Mazer runs through the woods, and before Jess can stop him, he knocks her over. Nicole catches up and tackles him. He groans in pain.)

Nicole: FBI you're under arrest!

George: What about my rights?

Nicole: I don't know about your rights, but here's your wrongs. This is for hitting my partner, and this is for making me run through all this crap!

(The FBI has checked the cabin.)

FBI Team Member: Cabin's empty, no vic!

(Flash to Jess by the van.)

Jess: Van's empty too!

Nicole: So where's the woman you took? And where's your brother?

(George lays there, quiet.)

[Scene: Interview Room Nicole and George are there.]

George: Oh, I see what's going on here, someone's trying to frame me and my brother!

(Nicole grabs him and makes him watch a tape on a small laptop.)

George: Hey! What are you doing?

Nicole: Look at that George! Now theres the woman, and there's your van, and look and theres you.

George: That's not me.

Nicole: So you were driving and your brother grabbed her?

George: No...

Nicole: Huh?

George: You're getting me all mixed up here.

Nicole: Nature took care of that. Now why'd you take her?

George: It wasn't us.

Nicole: What if you DNA shows up on a murder weapon? What we put you away for stuff other prisoners don't like? And you know what I'm talking about. Think we couldn't?

George: You can't.

Nicole: I can and I will! We have the technology to show you doing Paris Hilton on the roof of your van if we want to. Now do you want me to tell you what you're going down for? Or do you want to tell me what you actually did?

George: We dropped her off on highway 18.

Nicole: When?

George: About an house after we grabbed her.

Nicole: Dead or alive?

George: Alive!

Nicole: How come I don't believe her?

George: I swear to god we didn't hurt her. We just wanted some cash and credit cards, and she didn't have cards so she gave us a watch and some jewelry and then we let her go.

{Jess watches from outside}

George: I'm telling you the truth!

{Jess gets a vision, she's in the van a third time, the woman still trying to get out.}

Woman's Voice: Don't hurt me! No!

(The person gets through and she screams, then she begins being choked. The vision ends. Jess is in shock and Nicole comes out of the interview room.)

Nicole: Jess what is it, what'd you see?

Jess: He got through the door, she was trying to keep him out and he got in, and he was choking her.

Nicole: Are you okay you are shaking!

(Nicole, concerned for Jess, puts her hands at Jess's sides to keep her balanced, Jess is shaking.)

Jess: Nic, this is so intense. Something bad is coming.

Nicole: Not if we stop it.

(They walk away)

[Scene: Lobby, Polluck, Nicole, and Jess walk and talk.]

Polluck: It doesn't make any sense. If they released the victim this morning she would have contacted the police by now.

Jess: Maybe his brother still has her.

Polluck: Well at this point we have to pursue all theories.

Nicole: That George is telling the truth and she's alive.

Jess: Or that the brother's still holding her.

Nicole: Or that they're lying and she's dead.

Polluck: Cotrez and Cooper are searching on location, you two, find me the brother.

Nicole: You got it sir.

[Scene: Computers, Jess and Nicole search the Internet.]

Jess: Okay, looks the the brothers have been around her for awhile. they've taken a few part time jobs. They worked in Colgate, Maryland last week.

Nicole: Was in the Bradgate Arms project by any chance?

Jess: Yes, hotel being renovated.

Nicole: Police took a report from the night watchman. Said they found the remains of food like someone spend last night there. A tarp was taken from the supply shed, probably used as a blanket

Jess: Like someone who worked the site would know where to find it.

Nicole: Mmmm Hmm, let's go.

[Scene: Offices. Nicole, and Antonio discuss what they found.]

Antonio: So the brother was easy to find.

Nicole: And you're not going to believe this, Robert Mazer told the exact same story as his brother.

Antonio: I'll do you one better, they were telling the truth.

Nicole: How do you know?

Antonio: Well, they released the victim alive on highway 18, from there she took a bus. We spoke to the bus driver, and he showed us where he dropped her off.

Nicole: She didn't tell the driver she had just been kidnapped?

Antonio: Nah she didn't. The driver helped us with this. (He shows Nicole a picture of the woman.) I've got the the locals canvassing a two mile radius around the bus stop.

Nicole: All right I'll get Jess, we'll go join them.

(Nicole begins to leave, Antonio follows.)

Antonio: Makes you wonder about this woman, you know? Living off the grid, so no one can trace her.

Nicole: Makes sense, no credit cards, no car registration.

Antonio: Yeah you know, shes keeping everyone around her out of distance, not telling anyone what's wrong, hows shes really feeling.

Nicole: I do not do that.

Antonio: Yeah you do

Nicole: Do not.

Antonio: Yes you do, Nic look, you don't really talk about what's happening inside, and I just don't understand why you're like that.

Nicole: Like what?

(She goes in the elevator, Antonio holds the door open.)

Antonio: Well, I mean there are parts of you that are exactly like that woman. I mean you hide from everyone, including the people who are closest to you. Am I right?

Nicole: What do you want from me Antonio?

Antonio: I want you to trust me. I am not going to reject you of judge, or think that you're weak.

Nicole: I know.

Antonio: Good.

(He lets the elevator door close.)

[Scene: Victims house, Nicole and Jess walk up the sidewalk.]

Jess: Local cops, canvas this house. There was no answer when they knocked but they heard movement inside. Neighbors say

Nicole: Sounds good to me.

(The door has many locks on it.)

Nicole: Man look at all of these locks.

Jess: This is our girl.

(Nicole knocks.)

Nicole: FBI!

Jess: Hello, anyone home?

Nicole: We know you're in there. Please don't make us kick in this door.

(The locks are all unlocked and a woman opens the door, frightened.)

Nicole: It's okay, we're with the FBI.

Jess: We're here to help you.

(The woman waits for a minute before letting them in.)

Nicole: Agent's Scott, Mastriani. Thank you for letting us in.

Woman: Do I really have a choice?

(Jess sees a gun on the table.)

Jess: Would you mind explaining this to us please?

Woman: It's for self protection.

Nicole: And of course it's licensed?

Woman: I don't really like filling out forms, you have to use your name.

Nicole: What is your name?

Woman: Emma....Emma Rodericke.

Nicole: Why are you so scared Emma? Did they do anything to you?

Emma: Nothing.

Nicole: You can tell us.

Emma: No I am telling you, they just wanted was money. They didn't hurt me. I gave them some jewelry, they let me go. It's over

Jess: Not for us Emma.

Emma: No I don't want to press charges!

[Scene: Outside an interview room. Polluck, Jess, and Nicole watch Emma sit nervously in the interview room from the camera.]

Polluck: She doesn't want to press charges.

Jess: She wants to forget about it. Move on.

Polluck: She must have been hit on the head during the kidnapping.

{Jess goes into a vision. In her vision a man comes to grabs Emma, Emma tries to make him stop hurting her.}

Jess: Let her go!

(The vision ends.)

Polluck: Agent?

Nicole: What'd you see?

Jess: Someone is coming to hurt her. To kill her. We may have her kidnappers but Emma's life is still in danger.

Antonio: Okay well this may add to the confusion. I ran Emma's record. She was arrested in Chicago nine months ago for assault with a deadly weapon.

Jess: Well why didn't we get a hit on her prints?

Antonio: They had a power failure and no one knew it yesterday, they went offline.

Polluck: Well what did she do to merit the charge?

Nicole: Took a shot at a guy named Stephen Dawson.

Polluck: The Private Investigator in Chicago?

Jess: You know him?

Polluck: I know of him, one of the top ten PIS in the country. Very well connected, corporate client, private money that sort of think Keys says he does wet work.

Nicole: Maybe he's the one that's coming after her.

Polluck: Find him for me, ASAP.

Antonio: All right.

Polluck: You two find out why she tried to kill Mr. Dawson.

Jess: Well that shouldn't be hard.

Polluck: Nothing should be hard agent but everything is. Go figure.

[Scene: Interview Room. Jess, Nicole, and Emma are there.]

Nicole: You didn't tell us you had a record.

Emma: Didn't seem relevant

Nicole: You tried to shoot someone

Emma: And I regret it.

Jess: Well that's a start.

Emma: I mean I regret that I missed.

Nicole: What's your connection to Stephen Dawson, was he investigating you or were you his client?

Emma: Uh....I'm his wife.

[Scene: Continue from before.]

Nicole: Let me get this straight, you were married to Stephen Dawson?

Emma: I didn't take his name when we got married. I used to think that was the first thing that set him off, but is if relevant? Everything sets him off, who cares what the first thing was?

Nicole: Was your husband abusing you?

Emma: Yes. Nobody would ever believe why I shot him.

Nicole: You could try us.

Emma: He's handsome, he's charming, he's socially empowered. His monstrous qualities are invisible. You can't possibly understand what it was like to live with him.

Nicole: Maybe I can. Jess, could you give us a minute?

Jess: Sure.

Nicole: Thanks.

(Jess gets up and leaves.)

Emma: What is this to make me more communicative?

(Emma is confused.)

Nicole: I didn't send her out because of you, I sent her out because of me. When I was a child my father abused my mother, eventually she had enough and she had him killed. I don't know if she meant for him to die, but it happened, and it happened in front of me. So I understand violence in the home, you can tell me what happened in yours.

Emma: I can't do that.

Nicole: Because you're scared?

Emma: Because I'm ashamed.

Nicole: There's no shame in the truth Emma. (Emma tries to interrupt but Nicole keeps talking.) Not anytime, not anywhere. Please Emma. You can tell me what happened.

(Emma gives up and starts to explain.)

Emma: I was married to a perfect man for 22 years. He dropped dead four years ago. A meeting with a client, the man said something funny. My husband leaned back in his chair the way he always did and laughed the way he always laughed. He died like that, just leaning back.

{Jess watches from outside}

Nicole: I'm sorry

{Back in the room}

Emma: I was having breakfast with him at 8 O' clock, a 10:15 I was looking down at him in a rubber bag. When they closed the bag, the zipper made the loudest sound I had ever heard I thought I would lose my mind.

Nicole: I can understand that.

Emma: We didn't have children and he was my world. I didn't leave the house for 7 months.

Nicole: Until?

Emma: I met Steve Dawson at an event

Nicole: What was he like?

Emma: Oh....Younger than me, a bit.

{Outside. Antonio walks in up to Jess and watches.}

Emma: (v.o) Handsome, charming, and still athletic.

{Back in the room.}

Emma: I were lonely. Off balance. And flattered by his attention. But the signs were already there I just chose to ignore them. A few weeks after our wedding, we were having dinner, he started accusing me of flirting with an electrician who was working in our house. I mean it was ridiculous, so I made a joke about it, and he hit me so hard, it took me out of the chair.

Nicole: How many times did assault you?

Emma: How many days are there in 14 months?

Nicole: Why didn't you go to the police?

Emma: I did, of course I did, I'm not stupid. And I wasn't afraid at first, I filed reports, I got restraining orders. Have you ever to enforce a restraining order agent?

Nicole: I heard they can be difficult.

Emma: They can't be enforced, I mean not effectively anyway. They simply made him furious. I ran away, he found us, I ran away again.

Emma: So now there he is, in our house, my house, secure and comfortable with all our assets. While I live from hand to mouth, always on the run.

Nicole: That's a high price to pay for your safety.

Emma: I'm not safe!

{Outside. Antonio and Jess watch.}

Emma (v.o): He's an investigator, he has excellent skills, he can find anyone!

{Back inside.}

Emma: When he caught me last time the last time he said he would kill me if I....left him again.

Nicole: So you disappeared, get a whole to new life, take a new name. That's why we couldn't find you when you were kidnapped.

Emma: I had to make myself so invisible that even Steve Dawson couldn't find me.

Nicole: No bank accounts, no credit cards.

Emma: Nothing. No.

Nicole: Just the locks.

Emma: They're a fixation, I know it. They give me some measure of comfort. But nobody's safe. I know that now.

(Emma rolls up her sleeve to reveal knife marks, Nicole takes her hand.)

Emma: He said he would make it look like suicide. If he had cut along the vein's instead of across them....

(Emma starts to cry. Nicole takes her other hand.)

[Scene: Outside, the interrogation room. Nicole walks out.]

Nicole: Did you get that line on Stephen Dawson?

Antonio: Yeah he's on a plane.

Jess: To where?

Antonio: Here. He lands in two minutes. He has a reservation at the Morrison.

(Nicole walks past them, Jess and Antonio follow.)

[Scene: Morrison Hotel, Stephen Dawson, walks in through the doors. Jess and Nicole sit on couches waiting, Jess looks up and sees him.]

Jess: Nicole.

(Nicole and Jess, get up and walk over to Stephen.)

Nicole: Mr. Dawson, Mr. Stephen Dawson?

Stephen: Yes that me, what can I do for you ladies?

Nicole: FBI.

Jess: Come over here please.

(They walk away from everyone else)

Stephen: Well I have to say the grooming level at the bureau has gone way up in the last of the while.

Nicole: What's the nature of your visit to Washington?

Stephen: Well I'm here and I'm visiting with a client. I'm a...

Jess: (interrupts) Private investigator, we know.

Stephen: You know, good. So what's this about then?

Jess: What's your client's name Mr Dawson?

Stephen: Well that would be unethical for me to say wouldn't it? Am I under some kind of investigation?

Nicole: Wouldn't be the first time, now would it?

Stephen: You know I'm not quite sure what it is that you two are after but I am paid by the hour, so if you would excuse me.

Nicole: We know why you're here

Stephen: Agent if I were you, I would exercise extreme caution regarding allegations that you have no way of proving.

Nicole: And if I were you I would go back to the airport and get on the first flight back to Chicago.

Stephen: I'm sorry I'm a tad confused now, are you a federal agent or a travel agent.

Nicole: I'm you approach her, go anywhere near her, you will be very sorry.

{Jess gets a vision of Stephen, choking Emma.}

Stephen: If has been a true pleasure and I wish you both

(Stephen leaves and Nicole walks over to Jess.)

Jess: Ring's the same, he's Emma's executioner.

[Scene: Back in the interrogation room. Emma's there with Nicole and Jess.]

Nicole: I'm afraid we have some bad news.

Emma: He found me...oh my god, oh my god!

Jess: We know how scared you are.

(Emma gets up, frightened.)

Emma: No you don't you have no idea how scared we are! Locks on the doors so many locks....

(Nicole walks past Jess and stops Emma from leaving, by grabbing Emma's shoulders.)

Nicole: Emma, listen to me, you have been very smart, brave, and I give you my word he will never hurt you again!

Emma: How do you know?

Nicole: Because I won't let him! I'm here, everything's going to be all right.

(Emma stops fighting to get away and takes that into thought.)

[Scene: Polluck's Office. Polluck and Stephen Dawson walk in.]

Stephen: Listen I truly appreciate you seeing me on such short notice, thank you.

Polluck: You're a legend Mr Dawson and uh, you get around this town.

Stephen: I have some friends here, that's true but Chicago, that's my town. Agent Tessler passes his along his regards to you by the way.

Polluck: Shack town Tessler, good guy, weird scar but good guy.

Stephen: I've never seen his scar.

Polluck: Then you don't know him that well. What do you want in D.C. Mr. Dawson?

Stephen:Well I was here just to cover. (Referring to a chair.) Do you mind if I....?

Polluck: Please.

(They sit.)

Stephen: I was here I was here to cover some business, but then I met with your agents at the hotel, and well they seemed upset with me, and so I tracked them back to you being their supervisor and felt I should perhaps clear things up.

Polluck: Clarity is one of my favorites

Stephen:I will be honest with you, Mr. Polluck. I would like to see my wife, you know I understand that you have located her

Polluck: How do you know that?

Stephen: Well based on how angry your people were with me, you know, clearly they have spoken to her.

Polluck: You and your wife are...estranged?

Stephen: We, we are not living together, we've been apart for uh,....coming on 9 nine months we're still married though

Polluck: Even after, Smith and Wesson cooled that relationship.

Stephen: My wife is not the most stable person in the world she uh, she's clinically paranoid, untreated of course.

Polluck: And undiagnosed by, by anyone but you

Stephen: The gun was...it was stupid. It was just stupid I should have never had it in the house.

Polluck: She told the police that it was self defense that you were....

Stephen: That I'd been beating her no, I know what she said. I wanted to die when I read that complaint, just drop dead right where I was standing. It hurt very much just to read that.

Polluck: She's got scars on her left arm.

Stephen: She tried to take her own life, a few months after we were married.

Polluck: Was that because of you?

Stephen: Emma is a....she's an emotional car wreck. And I don't know what it is exactly that her first husband did to her, but whatever , it was completure, it was total. To be honest with you I'm simply trying to pick up the pieces, and simply hold them together you know?

Polluck: Maybe she doesn't want to be held.

Stephen: And I'm not saying I'm a perfect husband John, or a perfect step-father. I've made some mistakes, god knows, I know we both have made mistakes. but when I found out that Emma had been kidnapped it was.... you know they say sometimes you have to lose something, before you realize what it is that you really have. I love my wife, I love Emma very much, and I would just like the chance to make things right that's all.

(Polluck gets up. Stephen goes to get up, Polluck stops him.)

Polluck: No please, sit down, wait here.

[Scene: Outside, Polluck talks to Nicole and Jess about Stephen.]

Nicole: He's here? In our office?! Are you kidding me?

Polluck: Back off agent, I'll... (Nicole starts walking away, Polluck stops her) Scott! I said I'll handle it

Jess: Are you going to arrest him?

Polluck: I can't, no grounds.

Nicole: What do you call everything that they went through?

Polluck: I call it horrifying, but there is no current warrant on this piece of garbage, and that last time I looked we are not in the mob justice business.

Nicole: Sir he came here to kill her.

Polluck: All right you what what? You keep Mrs. Rodericke back here until I finish with the guy.

Nicole: You know what Jess saw.

Polluck: And you know that Agent Mastriani's visions are not something we can arrest people on. It is over, she is not missing over, we're the FBI not the Gelatins.

Nicole: We have to stop him.

Polluck: Scott would you look at me? Right?

Nicole: Right.

[Polluck goes back into his office, Stephen is standing at the window.]

Polluck: I told you to sit

Stephen: Where's Emma?

Polluck: I don't like being disobeyed

Stephen: Well you led me to believe that I'd be seeing her

Polluck: I lied. Now sit your wife beating ass down.

Stephen: It's a shame

Polluck: Walk out that door and I will shoot you.

(He shows his gun)

Stephen: Are you insane?

Polluck: In fact in some ways, yes, I am. I'm sure Agent Tessler has told you the stories about me if you really know him.

Polluck: Good so lets be clear. If you try to see your wife while she is in this office I will shoot you through the lungs.

Stephen: You'll shoot me?

Polluck: Through the lungs, yes. And I'll arrest you while you lie there choking.

Stephen: Okay, and you'll arrest me for what precisely?

Polluck: Violating your restraining order.

Stephen: Well as a point of fact that order was filed in Chicago so its actually not enforceable here unless Emma goes to a court in D.C.

Polluck: Yes, by the time a judge sorts that one out you will have coughed your life away on my cold tile floor, and I will be protected as I always am by the obscure and powerful people who love me in this town so, Steve, up to you really, you could always sit.

(Stephen gives up and sits down.)

Polluck: Your a real stud you know that?

Stephen: You know nothing about me Assistant Director Polluck.

Polluck: Well I know that your, uh, you under arrest.

Stephen: For....?

Polluck: I don't even know, we'll think of something that can stick for a week or so, that'll keep you here in D.C. and Emma will go back, and when she has her life back we'll have Agent Tessler watch you. And if you hurt Emma..well you can figure out the rest. We know what happened, and we know who you are, and we know what to do with you.

(Antonio walks in.)

Polluck: Agent Cortez this man has a choice he can fly back to Chicago immediately or he can go to jail. Escort him to the location of his choice.

Antonio: I hope he'll make the right decision.

[Scene: Emma's house, Emma walks into the room with suitcases, Emma goes to lock the door. Suddenly, Stephen is there. Emma is afraid.]

Stephen: Hey beautiful. (Emma doesn't answer.) are you going somehow there? (Emma doesn't answer.) Emma it has been so long.

Emma: How did you get in here?

Stephen: Honey please, hey listen. (She pulls away from him.) Oh for god's sake I just wanna touch you that's all. Okay?

Emma: How did you get here?

Stephen: Oh they made me fly back to Chicago, it was kind of funny really I just came right back so. Listen.

Emma: Please....

Stephen: (interrupts) No we need to talk okay?

Emma: No we....

Stephen: (interrupts) No no no no ssh, we need to talk. I've been thinking, are you listening to me? No?

Emma: Yes.

Stephen: Okay, I love you okay? And I am so sorry for all the things that went on between us when we were together. And I need to ask you something very important okay? I need to know if you can ever forgive me?

Emma: Of course, I can forgive you

Stephen: You see I forgive you. You see that? See I forgive you.

Emma: I forgive you

(They hug.)

Stephen: Your my life Emma, my hope. And you have...you have... (He stops, Emma gets frightened). You smell different.

Emma: Stephen please....

Stephen: Have you been with another man?

Emma: Don't...

Stephen: No, no no no no, just let me know. You can tell me. Just be honest with me okay? Because we've been separated okay so I understand. So how many times?

Emma: No Stephen please, this is starting again

Stephen: What's that? (He shows her his wedding band.) We're married, so I have the right to know. Okay? So tell me.

Emma: Leave me alone!

(He pushes her against the wall.)

Stephen: What did you say to me?

(Nicole is suddenly behind him.)

Nicole: She said leave her alone

Stephen: Agent this is a personal matter, okay the FBI has no business here.

Nicole: You're not talking to the FBI, you're talking to me.

Stephen: No as a matter of fact I'm talking to my wife okay? That's a private conversation. (He goes back to beating her.) Now tell me!! Tell me!!

(Nicole tackles him and stops him.)

Nicole: Get off of her! Run Emma Run!! Outside!

(Nicole stands there, breathing heavily.)

[Scene: Polluck's Office. Him and Nicole are there.]

Nicole: You wanted to see me sir?

Polluck: Yes agent, um, in regards to you're uh, arrest last night...

Nicole: Is there a problem?

Polluck: I just wanted you to explain to me what you were doing outside of Mrs. Rodericke's home when her husband assaulted her.

Nicole: Well I was on my way to have dinner with Agent Mastriani, when I realized that my earring fell out during yesterday's canvas. So I returned to search for it.

Polluck: So you were searching for an earring? As opposed to disobeying the direct orders of your superior and backing off Mr. Dawson.

Nicole: That's correct sir.

Polluck: Good okay, I just wanted to make sure I had it clear. Dismissed.

Nicole: Thank you sir.

(She begins to walk away, Polluck stops her.)

Polluck: No thanks are due, agent I uh, we put the guy on a plan and he flew back and I should have taken more precautions, I should have...he's in jail now.

(Nicole doesn't say anything, she begins to walk away again, Polluck stops her.)

Polluck: Agent?

Nicole: Sir?

Polluck: Next time you lose an earring, under similar circumstances maybe you can take me along.

Nicole: Thank you sir.

Polluck: Thank you agent.

(Nicole leaves.)

[Scene: Outside, Emma waits for Nicole. She walks up to her.]

Nicole: So Emma. (She stands up, they grab hands.) I guess this is goodbye.

Emma: I can never thank you enough for what you've done for me.

Nicole: You're welcome.

(They hug. Emma grabs everything and get's ready to leave.)

Emma: Thanks again.

Nicole: Take care.

(She leaves, Nicole watches her go.)

[Scene: Jess and Colin are on a date, but Jess is staring absentmindedly at her drink.]

Colin: Hey

Jess: Hey, what?

Colin: You're not here. You're still at work.

Jess: Would I wear this to work?

Colin: Look it's cool, okay I understand. Our jobs....their hard to leave behind.

Jess: Okay, Okay, I'm here. I swear.

Colin: Prove it.

Jess: And...how exactly would you uh...

{Jess get's a vision. From the curtain, a hand comes out. Its is gross. Back in her own world.}

Colin: What's wrong?

Jess: It's not over.

Colin: What isn't?

(She gets on her cell.)

Jess: Nicole? You do know where Emma Rodericke is?

[Scene: Emma's house. Stephen shoots Emma. Once, twice three times. Polluck slaps his hand down, but he manages one more shot in. Emma falls to the ground. Nicole and some other people run in. Nicole goes straight to Emma..]

Nicole: Ambulance! Now!

(Antonio kneels down on the other side, signaling its too late. Jess and Colin run in, but their too late. Nicole and Jess catch each other's eyes.)

Polluck: This wasn't our fault. He knows people, they got to a judge, and he got bail. Don't blame yourself.

(Nicole gets up, and stops at Jess and they just look at each other for a minute, Jess's face looks as if she's saying "I'm sorry." They don't say anything, and Nicole walks away.)

[Outside, Nicole walks away.]

Nicole: (v.o) I'm here, everything's going to be all right.

Young Nicole Scott: (v.o) Everything's going to be all right.

[Scene: Nicole's Apartment, she's looking at a picture of her and her family. Theres a knock. She has a drink in her hand. She goes to get the door.)

Antonio: Hey

Nicole: Hey, come on in. Want a drink?

Antonio: No I'm good.

(She goes to the cabinet.)

Nicole: Like this is a time to quit! Please don't make me drink by myself.

Antonio: Okay.

Nicole: I tried so hard to save her. I tried so hard. Just like I tried to save my parents.

Antonio: You were five years old.

Nicole: Like that matters.

Antonio: Some things, Nic you just can't save.

(She begins walking away.)

Nicole: I'm not gonna cry. I am not going to cry. (She turns around.) I'm not going to cry.

Antonio: You know it's okay, I'm here...if you need to cry.

(Nicole gives up.)

Nicole: Okay, I'll cry.

(Antonio hugs Nicole and let's her cry as she faces her harsh reality. Scene Ends.)
