Marguerite: Isadore queen of the travelers is becoming a royal pain in the ass. Veronica: The men seem taken by her. Marguerite: Well don’t sweat it; take away the lips, eyes, perfect skin, plunging neckline what do you have - just another common jungle tart. Isadore: What luck not one but two handsome heroes. And me I must look a mess. Malone: No not at all, you look great. Considering you were almost killed. Isadore: I was never in any real danger. Roxton: I hate to break it to you, the horse - the cliff. Isadore: I’ve already seen my death and it was not today. Malone: Excuse me? Isadore: I have the gift. Roxton: Ah yes that’s right you’re psychic. Isadore: The future is an open book to me love, loss, life, death… yours if you dare. [Scene: The jungle - Challenger and Summerlee are collecting plants. The balloon is in the distance.] Challenger: Summerlee I am done being a mule. Summerlee: Be careful you’ll disturb the roots. Challenger: Let’s load this and get moving. Summerlee: These plants have survived for at least One hundred and sixty million years. The least we can do is to give them five minutes more. [A raptor is watching the two men from the bush. Challenger notices, grabs his rifle and takes aim. The raptor evades him.] Challenger: Where is he? Summerlee: Gone. Challenger: Did that raptor duck when he saw the rifle? Summerlee: Impossible. [A second raptor appears in the bush] Summerlee: Over there by the path. [The raptor disappears when Challenger points his rifle.] Challenger: What do you make of that professor? [A third raptor appears. Challenger fires - the raptor runs away.] Challenger: That makes three of them between us and the balloon. Summerlee: We’ll never make it. Challenger: Let’s find a more defensible position. Summerlee: And then what? Challenger: We wait them out until they decide to look for something easier to eat. [Scene: The camp - Isadore is looking at Veronica’s locket.] Isadore: This was given to you by someone you love very much, your mother or father. No your mother and father. Veronica: How could you possibly know that? [Isadore opens the locket looking at the picture of Veronica’s parents.] Isadore: I peeked. Veronica: Do you see them? Isadore: I see something vague distant… Veronica: Are they alive? Isadore: There are ropes no - chains. Roxton: Are they captives, slaves? Isadore: It’s not clear. Veronica: Will I find them? Isadore: I can’t they’re gone I’m sorry. Veronica: I thought you said you could see them? Isadore: Only in your reflection, in the shadows of your future. Roxton: What do you see? Isadore: Trees Roxton: Well we are in a jungle and trees are a safe bet. Isadore: Heed my words. Veronica will become one with the forest. I see you becoming - a tree. Veronica: A tree? Roxton: Now will that be a birch a willow or a mighty oak? Isadore: Mock me but remember this danger awaits. You will be betrayed by a two faced woman. [Marguerite steps out of the tent throwing out a basin of water.] Veronica: Well I could have told you that. [Scene: The camp - Marguerite is lost in thought toying with her heart shaped locket.] Isadore: May I? Marguerite: Not a chance. Isadore: You’re not interested in your future. Marguerite: I make my own destiny and no one touches my jewelry. [Isadore walks over to Malone who is sitting in the back of Isadore’s wagon.] Isadore: What about you my handsome hero? Malone: Me? Isadore: Surely someone so brave wouldn’t be afraid to know his own fate? Malone: Why not. [Malone hands Isadore his journal. Marguerite steps closer.] Isadore: I see you. I see my wagon. I see… Malone: What? Isadore: Death. Marguerite: The melodrama begins. Isadore: In two days you will battle a beast with razor sharp claws and the heart will be torn from your chest. [Scene: Nighttime the jungle - Challenger and Summerlee are making camp. Challenger is lighting a campfire. They have set up five campfires forming a circle - the two men in the center.] Challenger: We’re safe for now. You get some sleep. I’ll take the first watch. Summerlee: Is it possible those beasts have actually learned to be afraid of guns? Challenger: We both saw it. Summerlee: Extraordinary, if they can learn so quickly? Challenger: Soon they’ll be near impossible to kill. [Raptors shriek in the distance.] Summerlee: They’re still out there aren’t they? Challenger: Waiting for us. Summerlee: Let’s hope they haven’t learned not to be afraid of fire. [Scene: The camp - Isadore is putting some powder into a drink. Carrying two goblets she walks over to Roxton who is on watch.] Isadore: Lovely night. Roxton: Beautiful. Isadore: You saved my life. Roxton: Oh all in a days work. Isadore: How can I ever repay you? Roxton: I guess will just have to settle for a nod and a handshake. Sorry [kisses her] I’m on watch. Isadore: At least a toast to your health. Surely you wouldn’t deny me that? [Roxton takes the goblet] Roxton: One drink. Isadore: To a handsome brave gallant man, in this selfish uncivilized world. [Roxton and Isadore drink.] Isadore: I’m truly grateful… and sorry. Roxton: Sorry, for what? [Roxton collapses] Isadore: For that. [Isadore kisses the unconscious Roxton on the cheek then takes his gun and knife. She goes into the woman’s tent. Isadore is not able to take Veronica’s knife in fear of waking her but is able to take Marguerites locket and weapon.] [Fade Out] [Scene: Daytime the camp – Roxton is lying on the ground. He awakes up when water is dumped over his head.] Marguerite: Sleeping beauty wakes. Malone: Well it’s about time. Roxton: Ohhh my head. Marguerite: Rough night? Roxton: What happened? Marguerite: It appears you were carousing on watch. [Roxton picks up the goblet lying next to him.] Roxton: Well it was just one sip I mean… Marguerite: Yea right! Malone: Isadore is gone along with everything but the shirts off our backs. Roxton: Everything? Malone: Guns, ammo, packs, changes of clothes. Marguerite: My locket. [Veronica pulls out her knife.] Veronica: I still have this. [Roxton pulls a knife from his boot] Roxton: And this. Marguerite: Oh it appears little miss oracle missed that one too. Veronica: Let’s go get her. Malone: With what? She’s got our guns. Marguerite: If I have to I’ll beat her to death with me shoe. [Scene: The trail - Isadore is traveling in her wagon. She is stopped by masked marauders. The leader jumps from the hill and takes off his mask.] Kaysan: My my, what an honor, your majesty. Isadore: No no, Kaysan the honor is mine. Kaysan: A successful trip, your wagon rides deep in its tracks. [Kaysan jumps onto the wagon and sits next to Isadore.] Isadore: Just my old rags a few bottles of sour wine. Kaysan: Then you’ll thank us for lightening your load. [A man is handing Kaysan’s rifles from the back of the wagon] My my where did you get all this? Isadore: Here there, I’m at the mercy of my fates. Kaysan: Climb down Isadore: First a drink to your health Kaysan. Kaysan: Off the wagon. Isadore: Here hand me something. Any object that is precious to you and I can tell you your future. [Kaysan pulls a knife and holds it to Isadore’s throat.] Kaysan: I already know yours. [Scene: The trail to find Isadore.] Roxton: Four hours ahead, if she stops to sleep we’ll catch her by dawn. Veronica: I predict it’ll be sooner than that. [They find Isadore by the lake throwing twigs into the water.] Marguerite: Hey! Where are our things? Isadore: I’ve been robbed. Marguerite: You’ve been robbed that’s rich. Roxton: From the looks of it the wagons rolled off with a half a dozen men. Veronica: We better move. Isadore: You’re not going after them? Roxton: That’s where our guns are. Isadore: If you follow the thieves my Prophesy will come true. Marguerite: Spare me. Isadore: I saw the heart ripped from your chest. Marguerite: Sorry sweetie he’s not falling for your mumbo jumbo. Malone? What a clawed beast got your tongue? Malone: The day Veronica sprouts branches I’ll start worrying about my heart. [Ape-men jump from the jungle and attack the group. Veronica does a summersault and lands on top an ape-man’s shoulders snapping his neck with her legs. Another ape-man grabs hold of Veronica and throws her into the water. Malone scares off the last of them. Veronica steps out of the water with branches sticking out all over her.] Marguerite: Well maybe there’s something to the prophesies after all. Veronica: What? Marguerite: Look at yourself. [Veronica steps back to the water to look at her reflection.] Veronica: I look like a … Marguerite: A tree. Roxton: Oh it’s all right Malone it doesn’t mean anything. Malone: Sure. Veronica: Besides even if she is right just this once - so what. Isadore: So, tomorrow his prophesy will come true. Malone: Then I’ll be dead. [Scene: The jungle] Challenger: Where is the damn balloon? [Summerlee points to the sky. The balloon is floating away.] Summerlee: There! [Challenger and Summerlee walk over to where the balloon was secured. They look at one of the ropes.] Challenger: This lines been chewed. Summerlee: Raptors? Challenger: I’m a blasted fool I should have secured it better. Summerlee: You’ve couldn’t have known. How long can it fly? Challenger: There’s probably enough Hydrogen left for two maybe three hours. Summerlee: Winds light less than four knots. Challenger: It’ll still travel at least ten miles before the weight grounds it. Summerlee: I think I can make it. Challenger: Yeah of course you can. Summerlee: It will give us a chance to see just how smart out friends have become. [Scene: The lake] Isadore: This is crazy you don’t stand a chance. Roxton: We have no choice without our weapons we won’t survive. Malone: Where are they taking your wagon? Isadore: It’s a big jungle it could be anywhere. [Veronica puts a knife to Isadore’s throat.] Veronica: Why don’t you close your eyes and take a look. Isadore: Kaysan has a camp deep in the forest but you can’t go there. Roxton: Why not? Isadore: His bandits have robbed half the tribes on the plateau. Marguerite: A man after your own heart. Isadore: To Kaysan stranger means enemy. Do you know what they do to unexpected guests? Boil them in oil. Marguerite: With a little basil and salt I hope. Isadore: If I take you to his camp he’ll have your head on a pike and more important mine. Veronica: Now or later your choice. [Scene: Kaysan’s camp] Kaysan: I told you we wouldn’t come back empty handed. Come and get it you ungrateful bastards. [The five reach the camp and observe them from a distance.] Marguerite: Looks like we’ve inspired quite a celebration. Isadore: It’s always like this after a raid. They put their masks back on dance and drink till they drop. Malone: Who are the masks supposed to fool? They already know each other. Marguerite: I imagine that’s the point. It’s always more exciting to dance with a stranger. Isadore: Because that’s the closest they can come to being a stranger down there is wearing a mask. Veronica: What do you think? Roxton: My dance cards open. [Roxton, Marguerite and Veronica move in closer to the camp] Isadore: You go down there, my Prophesy will come true. Malone: And if I don’t my future will change? Isadore: There’s always free will but fate is powerful. Few are strong enough to fight their destiny. Malone: You could be wrong - right? Your predictions don’t always come true - do they? Isadore: The gift does not lie. [The bandits are preparing to celebrate and are trying on masks. The group is watching from a closer vantage point.] Marguerite: That camisole was hand made in Paris. Veronica: I forgot to bring my party clothes. Roxton: Stick with the huts along the perimeter. Malone: I’ll go with her. [Malone and Veronica leave] Marguerite: I guess that leaves us to work the party. Roxton: After you. Marguerite: Always the gentleman. [One of the bandits is drinking heavily by the edge of the camp.] Marguerite: Hi Bandit: I don’t know you? Marguerite: Well would you like to? [Marguerite slowly backs up leading the bandit away from camp. Roxton appears behind the bandit, taps him on the shoulder and throws a punch. The bandit doesn’t fall down; Marguerite throws a punch, the bandit falls back; Roxton catches him and drags him out of sight.] Roxton: Let’s get our guns and get out of here. Marguerite: Wait, wait. [Marguerite ducks into a tent. Roxton and Marguerite enter the camp with masks on. They see Kaysan shooting bottles in the air with their pistols.] Kaysan: Damn I’m good! Marguerite: Maybe we don’t need the pistols after all. Roxton: I don’t see the rifles. Marguerite: They must be in the huts. [They split up and when Roxton turns he is sidelined by a woman.] Woman: My favorite beast. Are you as dangerous as you look? Roxton: Only on the dance floor. Woman: Shall we. [Marguerite finds her way into one of the huts she starts to collect their belongings. She opens a trunk and stops to admire the jewelry inside. Two bandits enter the hut.] Bandit: What are you doing in here? Marguerite: I was looking for a drink. Somebody put all this junk in the way. [She walks over and puts her arms around the bandit] Buy us a drink sailor? Bandit: Sure. Marguerite: Great. [Marguerite leaves the hut.] [Roxton is dancing with the woman who has her mask pulled back behind her head. He spots Marguerite who is in the company of two bandits.] Roxton: Thank you [He turns to leave the woman. The woman pulls him back and takes off his mask.] Woman bandit: What no kiss? [They kiss] Hmm delicious. [The woman opens her eyes, gets a look at Roxton and realizes he is a stranger.] Woman bandit: Stranger! [A bandit grabs Roxton from behind. The woman runs away. Veronica and Malone witness the exchange from a hiding spot.] Malone: The two faced woman. Kaysan: You weren’t invited to our party. Roxton: Well don’t worry. I won’t hold it against you. [Kaysan fires his gun in the air.] Kaysan: Unmask! [Everyone unmasks but Marguerite. She tries to slip away from the two bandits.] Marguerite: Excuse me nature calls. Bandit: Let’s have a look. [The bandit grabs her arm and takes off Marguerite’s mask.] Kaysan: We get so few guests here. [Roxton and Marguerite are being tied up.] Veronica: Let’s go. Malone: We’ve got to save him. Veronica: First we have to save ourselves. How can we help him if we’re dead? Kaysan: Of course you will stay for dinner? [Kaysan takes his gun and runs it down the tied up Marguerite’s cheek.] [Fade Out] [Scene: Nighttime Kaysan’s camp - Marguerite and Roxton are still bound. Roxton has a knife to his throat as Kaysan approaches.] Kaysan: Gate crashers what a pity. I’ll have to make an example of you. Roxton: Sorry to put a damper on the party. Kaysan: It would spoil the mood. We’ll kill you tomorrow. Marguerite: Kaysan - surely we must be of some value to you? Kaysan: He’s useless dead or alive - it’s just less trouble dead. You - on the other hand. Marguerite: Try me. Kaysan: There’s only one way to avoid death here. Marguerite: Sign me up. Kaysan: Become one of us. Marguerite: My stuff’s already here I don’t even need to unpack. Kaysan: There is a small initiation. Marguerite: What secret handshake, bandit oath? [Kaysan puts a gun to Roxton’s temple.] Kaysan: Kill him. Marguerite: Couldn’t I just kill you instead? Kaysan: You have until morning to decide. He dies alone or you both die together your choice. [Kaysan forcefully kisses Marguerite]. [Scene: Daytime - a jungle clearing] Isadore: I warned you it would come to this. Veronica: We’re going back for them. Isadore: Did you not see the two faced woman? Malone: The second prophesy right on schedule. Isadore: Your friends are as good as dead. Why are you so anxious to join them? We go down there we’re all dead. Malone: No - there must be a way? Veronica: What? What is it? Isadore: There is one way, kill Kaysan. Malone: With what? We only have one knife between us. Isadore: The bandits live by an ancient code, its hand to hand combat; a blood challenge to the death. Veronica: Better odds than we have now. Isadore: You’re alive now. Veronica: But they won’t be for long. Isadore: No one’s ever beaten Kaysan. Veronica: He’s never fought me. Malone: Not you, me. Veronica: Ned. Malone: Veronica, I’m dead before sundown no matter what. The good thing until then I’m bullet proof. The fates will keep me alive for my date with the clawed beast. Veronica: There’s no heroism in dying stupidly. Ned you’re not ruthless enough to kill Kaysan. Malone: Veronica. Veronica: You’ll lose, he’ll underestimate me; at least I’ll stand a chance. Malone: Maybe you’re right. Veronica: Kiss me for luck? Malone: Of course. [Malone turns around and knocks Veronica out with one punch] Sorry. Isadore: I saw that coming. [Malone kisses Veronica on the forehead and lies her down on the ground] [Scene: the trail to the balloon] Challenger: I’ve lost track of the balloon. Summerlee: It’ll follow the wind straight down the canyon. Challenger: Unless it’s hung up on a tree. Let’s move up the hillside see if we can get a bearing on it. [A raptor jumps out of the jungle; Challenger raises his rifle and takes aim. The raptor eludes him and Challenger tries to get a shot but the raptor moves too fast.] Challenger: They’re herding us. Summerlee: What? Challenger: They’re driving us out of the jungle; down to the valley floor. Summerlee: It doesn’t make sense, why go to all that trouble. Challenger: They’re pack animals. In the low brush it’ll be easier for them to surround us and kill us. [Challenger fires of a shot into the bush at the raptor but misses.] Summerlee: For god sake this is torture. Why don’t they just attack and be done with it? Challenger: We’ve still got guns and a few bullets. They’re waiting; they’re waiting for us to run out. Summerlee: And when we do? [Scene: Kaysan’s camp - Marguerite and Roxton are in a hut tied up together beside a tree trunk. They are sitting on the ground.] Roxton: Kaysan will be coming soon. Marguerite: I guess if the cavalry was going to show up they would have been here by now. Roxton: Well if they’re smart Veronica and Malone will be half way back to the treehouse by now. Marguerite: How lovely for them. Roxton: Listen, whatever Kaysan asks - you do it. Marguerite: You mean kill you? Oh I don’t think so. I mean what’s today Tuesday? I never kill anybody on Tuesdays. Roxton: It won’t be you killing me. It will be Kaysan. Marguerite: Sure will right after he boils me in oil. Roxton: Stop it. Marguerite: I mean ta-tah Roxton see you in that great safari in the sky. Roxton: For once in your life will you just shut up and listen, now either way I’m dead. Marguerite: Roxton Roxton: I won’t have your death on my hands. Marguerite: But I’m supposed to have yours on mine? No! Roxton: Marguerite please, please. Marguerite: I can’t. I can’t. [Roxton kisses her on the forehead as Kaysan enters the hut.] Kaysan: Times up……cute. [Scene: Kaysan has Roxton tied up outside with the whole camp watching. Marguerite is standing beside Kaysan.] Kaysan: Normally when outsiders visit our happy tribe we boil them alive, [Kaysan shoves his gun under Roxton’s chin] but why waist our new toy. [Kaysan hands the gun to Marguerite.] Kaysan: One bullet, don’t worry you can’t miss from that range. You point it anywhere but at him and we’ll kill you both instantly. Ready? [Marguerite slowly walks toward Roxton.] Marguerite: Listen Kaysan, even if I do this how can I be sure you’ll let me join? Kaysan: Oh you don’t trust me. Marguerite: I don’t’ trust anyone. [Kaysan walks over to a woman that is wearing Marguerite’s locket.] Woman: You gave this to me Kaysan: And now I take it back [Kaysan jerks the locket off the woman and drops it down Marguerite’s blouse.] Kaysan: A token, after you’re mine I’ll give you everything that was yours and more. Roxton: Do it. [Marguerite walks slowly to Roxton and point the gun just left of his head. Kaysan grabs her hand and helps her point the gun right at Roxton’s forehead.] Kaysan: This way Roxton: Pull the trigger. [Kaysan encases Marguerite’s hand within his and has his finger along with hers on the trigger.] Kaysan: Let me help you, ready or not. Roxton: It’s ok Marguerite: No. Malone: Stop! I challenge you! Kaysan: What? Malone: By your own rules you have to fight me. Kaysan: Where’s that fortune telling bitch? I’ll have her head on a post. Malone: It’s your code - to the death. [Fade Out] [Scene: The jungle - Challenger and Summerlee are running they find the balloon which has landed on a hillside.] Challenger: There she is. Summerlee: And here we are right where they want us. Challenger: Go…go. I’ll cover you. [Summerlee runs toward the balloon. Challenger follows after taking a shot at a raptor. Summerlee stops at the base of the drop ladder.] Challenger: Get her in the air, I’ll hold them off. [Summerlee gets in the balloon and tries to free it from the brush as Challenger is firing shots at the waiting raptor.] Challenger: Hurry! [Challenger runs out of ammo and runs toward the balloon. A raptor chases him.] Summerlee: Challenger! Grab the ladder! [Challenger grabs the ladder as the balloon slowly makes its ascent. The raptor is hot on Challenger’s heels when Summerlee takes out his pistol and fires. Challenger: Thank god for you Summerlee. [The balloon floats away.] [Scene: The jungle clearing] Veronica: You let him go? Isadore: You couldn’t stop him, neither could I? It’s fate. Veronica: That death you saw was your own. Isadore: It won’t do you any good to kill me. [Veronica puts her knife at Isadore’s throat.] Veronica: Maybe not, you know but I’ll feel a lot better. Isadore: Wait! I have an idea. Veronica: It better be good. [Scene: Kaysan’s camp] Roxton: You’re a fool for coming back Malone, but thank you. Malone: If it’s hand to hand combat I have a chance. Marguerite: Remember the bigger they come the harder they fall. [Marguerite gives Malone her locket.] Marguerite: A token, for luck. [Marguerite kisses Malone on the cheek] Roxton: Malone. [The three watch as Kaysan puts on a glove that looks like a claw of an animal.] Malone: The clawed beast. [Scene: The lake - Isadore is mixing a pasty substance in a bowl. Veronica is cutting a bamboo stick.] Veronica: Are you sure you know what you’re doing? Isadore: The closer to his brain the quicker it will work. Veronica: Got it. Isadore: You only get one shot. [Isadore hands Veronica a dart laced with the substance] Veronica: I know. [Scene: Kaysan’s camp - Malone is getting thrown around by Kaysan.] Roxton: Get up Malone! [Two bandits grab Malone and throw him right in front of Kaysan. Malone and Kaysan continue to fight. Kaysan swipes at Malone and leaves blood stains on Malone’s chest. Kaysan is getting the upper hand Malone looks like he is weakening. Kaysan picks Malone up be the scruff of his neck.] Kaysan: You should have pulled the trigger when you had the chance. [Malone butts heads with Kaysan and punches him. Outside of camp Veronica take aim with her blowgun. She shoots, hitting Kaysan on the back of the neck with the poisoned dart. Kaysan becomes disorientated and falls forward toward Malone. As Kaysan falls he pulls Marguerite’s locket from around Malone’s neck. Malone throws his arms up in victory.] Malone: I won! Roxton: Yes! The Marquees of Queensbury! [The crowd turns on Malone they push him around.] Bandit: What did you do to him? Malone: I won! [Marguerite unties Roxton. Veronica enters the camp and fires a rifle to get the crowds attention.] Veronica: Get back! Isadore: Out of my way. [Isadore takes the guns away from the bandits] I’ll take that - thank you very much. Veronica: Nice and slow! Isadore: I predict you will all disappear. [The crowd leaves the camp] Roxton: That was one hell of a punch Malone. We owe you our lives. Malone: Just take it off my tab. [Marguerite kisses Malone.] Marguerite: That’s for defeating the clawed beast. Malone: The prophesy - I beat the prophesy. [Marguerite takes her locket out of the unconscious Kaysan’s hand.] Marguerite: Well maybe, maybe not. She said the heart would be ripped from your chest, she just didn’t say whose. [Epilogue] [Scene: Kaysan’s camp] Marguerite: You really do have a gift don’t you? Isadore: As do you, terrifying isn’t it? Marguerite: Yes. [Roxton helps Isadore onto her wagon.] Isadore: Thank you. Roxton: Are you sure you’ll be all right out there alone? Isadore: I know I will. [Roxton hands her his gun.] Roxton: Read it. Question of the hour, will we ever get off this plateau? Isadore: Yes……and no. Marguerite: What a time to go diplomatic. Isadore: There’s always free will but few are strong enough to exercise it. Anyway, you make your own destiny……right? [Isadore hands Roxton back his gun.] Roxton: Right you are your highness. [Isadore leaves.] [Scene: The lake] Malone: You thought I wasn’t ruthless enough to beat Kaysan. Veronica: You’re right, I underestimated you. Malone: There’s more to Ned Malone than meets the eye. Now what’ve you got for your…… hero? [Veronica opens up her arms.] Veronica: Come here. [Ned smiles, he steps closer to Veronica. Veronica punches him right in the face knocking him to the ground. Veronica kneels down and kisses Malone.] Veronica: Good to have you back Malone. End of episode.
