Transcript for “The Chosen One” Episode 1x20 Originally Aired: 04/22/00 Writer: Jon Cowan Director: Michael Offer Transcribed by Carol Murdock for TWIZ TV.com Feedback: murdockcarol@twiztv.com [Scene: The jungle - Two men in monk robes are walking along a trail.] Gideon: We have been hidden for decades. How could they have found the abbey now? Davos: You’re safe, that’s all that matters. We must hide in the mountains now and complete your training. Gideon: I’m ready now. Davos what is it? Davos: Nothing let’s keep moving. Goth’s are relentless - lest they pick up our trail. Gideon: But what about the others? Davos: Those that survive will find us. Those that did not well, we must make sure that they did not die in vain. Gideon: I will not fail Davos. [Gideon and Davos are attacked by Goth raiders.] [Scene: The trail] Marguerite: We’ve been hunting for two days and haven’t seen a single boar yet. Maybe they all headed south for the winter. Roxton: Anyone ever tell you patience is a virtue? We’ll find something soon. [In the distance they hear a man’s cry.] Marguerite: Not quite what I had in mind. [Cyan the Goth leader runs Davos through with his knife.] Davos: Gideon run! Gideon: Davos! [The Goth raiders hold Gideon to the ground at knife point.] Cyan: Gideon at last. Gideon: At the abbey you killed them all. Cyan: Looking for you. Gideon: Congratulations you found me. Cyan: Take him! [Roxton fires a shot in the air.] Roxton: Move away from the boy, slowly. [Cyan reaches for his knife] Marguerite: I wouldn’t. Roxton: Drop your weapons and keep moving. [The Goth raiders leave.] Cyan: This isn’t over. [Gideon falls to his knees beside Davos and holds him in his arms.] Davos: You must be ready after all. Gideon: No! You can’t, you can’t die. Davos: Well it wouldn’t be my first choice. Gideon: No! [Roxton walks over and leans down. Davos grabs Roxton by his shirt.] Davos: You must protect him. Take him to the elders, promise me. You must save the ‘Star of Hope’. [Davos dies.] **** Begin Intro**** At the dawn of the century A band of adventures set out to prove the impossible The existence of a prehistoric world The Visionary The Heiress The Hunter The Scientist and The Reporter All chasing the story of a lifetime Stranded in a savage land Befriended by an untamed beauty Together they fight to survive In this amazing world of lost civilizations and terrifying creatures Always searching for a way home A way out of……the Lost World ****End Intro**** [Scene: The jungle - Gideon is kneeling beside Davos stone grave.] Gideon: You were more than my teacher Davos, you were my friend. [Gideon lays a stone on top of Davos’ grave] Rest well. Roxton: Who were those men? Gideon: Goths, a generation ago they descended upon my people. They destroyed our civilization, forced us into hiding. Marguerite: It seems they found you……about this ‘Star of Hope’. [Gideon shows them his quarter staff it has heart shaped rubies along the edge.] Gideon: It’s a symbol - a call to arms, one we’ve vowed to die for. Roxton: It’s just a stone my friend it’s not worth someone’s life. Gideon: It’s worth mine. Only the ‘Star of Hope’ can unite the Moya. Without it we have no chance of defeating the Goths. Marguerite: That explains your welcoming committee. Roxton: Where’s the rest of you people? Gideon: Hidden, waiting for this. Marguerite: Fascinating, we’d love to stay and chat but tempus fugit. Roxton: How will you find them? Gideon: I’m the Chosen One, I’ll know the way. Roxton: The jungle is no place for hide and seek, and traveling alone. All you’ll find is death. Marguerite: Oh no no no no no, Roxton? Gideon: You have your woman to protect. Marguerite: Protect me! You think he protects me? Gideon: I can’t ask you to come with me. Roxton: You don’t have to, Davos already did. Gideon: Then we must move quickly. The Goths will be back. Roxton: Let’s go. Marguerite: What just happened? Roxton: He needs our help. Marguerite: No, not to hear him tell it. Look you’re the one that said the staff wasn’t worth people’s lives. Now you’re risking ours. Roxton: We can’t let him go alone. Marguerite: He’s not our responsibility. Roxton: He’s just a kid. Marguerite: Yeah a kid determined to wage war. Now is not the time to get paternal. You don’t even know if he’s telling the truth. Roxton: I trust him. Marguerite: Why? Roxton: I’m going with or without you. Marguerite: You’re worried about leaving him alone but me you’re willing to abandon. Men! [Scene: The jungle clearing - Veronica walks up to Ned who is chopping wood. Veronica: Very nice. The wood I mean. Malone: Feel free to take a turn. Veronica: But you do it so well. Malone: I do a lot of things well. Close your eyes. Veronica: Excuse me? Malone: I have a surprise for you. Veronica: Really? [Veronica closes her eyes.] Malone: Now put out your hands. Veronica: Ned? Malone: Come on. [Veronica stretches out her arms.] Veronica: Now what? [Malone drops a pile of wood in her arms.] Veronica: Hey! Malone: Surprise! Veronica: You don’t expect me to carry it all? Malone: But you do it so well. Veronica: Malone I swear [Malone kisses her] now that was a surprise. [Scene: The lake - Malone is washing up. He hears the animals in the jungle screech.] Malone: I must be getting jumpy in my old age. [Malone washes his face at the lakes edge. A naked woman emerges from the lake; approaches Malone and kisses him.] Kaya: I’m Kaya. [Kaya walks past Malone - on her exposed back she has veins protruding from her skin.] [Scene: The trail to Gideon’s people.] Marguerite: The kid’s never left the abbey; you want to tell me how he knows where he’s going? Roxton: It’s his training. [Gideon stops to pick up leaves on the ground and rubs them between his fingers then sniffs them] Marguerite: Ah yes, of course he can smell his way home. Gideon: Keep up! Marguerite: You heard the man. Roxton: Marguerite [Roxton sees three ape-men close by] Gideon [They take cover in the bush - ready to let the ape-men pass them by. Gideon jumps out and attacks the ape-men.] Roxton: Gideon! Marguerite: Oh great. [Roxton helps Gideon fight the ape-men. An ape-man attacks Marguerite. It throws her to the ground and jumps on top of her - Marguerite shoots it. Roxton and Gideon take care of the other two ape-men. Roxton runs over to Marguerite who is just tossing the ape-man off her.] Roxton: Marguerite [Roxton lends her a hand up. She slaps Roxton’s hand away gets up and storms toward Gideon.] Roxton: Whoa. Marguerite: What the hell were you doing? Gideon: A warrior never turns from his enemies. Roxton: If you’d have let them pass they wouldn’t have been our enemies. Gideon: Well it’s a matter of honor. Marguerite: You almost got me killed! Gideon: Well, I wouldn’t expect a woman to understand. Marguerite: Why you arrogant little… Roxton: Marguerite. Marguerite: Listen up little boy, I’m sure at the abbey you were God’s gift to mankind. But here in the jungle we have a rule. Don’t ask for trouble or you’re likely to find it. [To Roxton] If you want to keep that kid alive keep him away from me. [Scene: The Goth camp] Cyan: It was within my grasp! Bring me a list of the dead and injured from the mornings attack on the abbey. And bring wine! Something from the Monk’s cellar I think. Lucas: The Moya making fools of you; bested by a child and an old man. Cyan: Enough! Lucas: You had them. [Cyan holds a knife to Lucas’ throat] Cyan: Do not test me Lucas. I’ve killed many men today, one death more or less. Lucas: Kill me and you’ll never find the ‘Star of Hope’. [Scene: The treehouse - Veronica enters the common room wearing one of her mother’s dresses; her hair pulled up. A big Happy Birthday sign is by the elevator.] Challenger: You look lovely. Veronica: Thank you. Summerlee: Marguerite and Roxton aren’t back yet - shouldn’t we be doing this tomorrow? Veronica: It won’t be Ned’s birthday tomorrow. It’s been eleven years since I’ve has a party in this house. And I’m not going to miss this one. Challenger: Here he is. [Malone comes up in the elevator.] Challenger/Veronica/Summerlee: Surprise! Malone: You don’t know the half of it. Everybody meet Kaya. [Kaya is wearing Malone’s shirt.] [Scene: The trail to Gideon’s people.] Roxton: Gideon, consider the consequences. Be reasonable about this please. Gideon: I don’t need your help; I’ll find my own way. Roxton: Gideon! Hey! [Roxton grabs Gideon by the arm and spins him around] Don’t you walk away from me! Gideon: I did not ask you to come with me! Roxton: No, the man we buried did. We can’t deliver the staff rock if your dead can we? Gideon: I have spent my whole life preparing for this journey. I can’t fail. Roxton: No! Won’t fail - that determination. Can’t fail - that’s arrogance, that’s death. [Roxton notices something in the bush] Don’t turn around go back the way you came. Go…go. [Roxton lags behind Marguerite and Gideon to see who is following them. Lucas jumps Roxton and they tumble down a hill and fight.] Gideon: Stop - Lucas? Lucas: Brother! Roxton: Brother? [Fade Out] Lucas: They captured three of us Miguel, Jacob and me. I managed to overpower one of the guards and grabbed his clothes. Gideon: And the others? Lucas: Gone. Marguerite: As a strategy you could do better then swing first ask questions later. Roxton: Yes well perhaps it’s a family trait? Lucas: Sorry, I saw you grab Gideon and I thought he was your prisoner. Marguerite: See all’s well that ends well. Now you two have found each other I guess we can head back. Roxton: It will be dark soon; we should camp here. Marguerite: Camp? Camp? Gideon: No we should keep going. Roxton: No the jungle is no place to travel by night. You’ll do your people no good in a raptor’s belly. Lucas perhaps you should give Gideon a hand with the fire. Lucas: Come on. Marguerite: Just one question who made you their father? [Roxton walks by Marguerite without saying a word.] [Scene: The treehouse - The men are sitting with Kaya; Veronica is washing dishes.] Challenger: So you’ve been walking through the jungle alone for six months. Malone: Six months all by yourself. That’s incredible. Veronica: [quietly to herself] Six months try eleven years. Kaya: It’s been weeks since I’ve spoken to another human being. Summerlee: Oh you poor thing. Kaya: It’s lucky I found one with such a noble heart. Challenger: And you have no weapons; how do you survive? Kaya: Well I stay out of trouble. You know most things just want the same things I want; that’s to live. Veronica: And what if a raptors life includes having you for breakfast? Kaya: Well then we have a problem. Summerlee: You look remarkably healthy and well nourished. Do you mind if I take your pulse? [Kaya pulls her wrist away from Summerlee.] Challenger: Summerlee you’re frightening her. Summerlee: That’s odd. George - check her pulse. Malone: She’s fine. Summerlee: No you don’t understand. Malone: Professor she’s a guest not a guinea pig. Challenger: No of course she’s not. Summerlee: Yes but if you just allow me a moment… Malone: Leave her alone. [Malone leads Kaya away from the table.] [Scene: The trail to Gideon’s people. - Lucas and Gideon are training with quarter staffs as Roxton watches them by the camp fire.] Marguerite: Imagine thinking that your brother was dead then finding out he wasn’t. I wonder what that feels like. Roxton: I’ll never know. Marguerite: Come on admit it that kid reminds you of someone. Roxton: That’s not why I’m here Marguerite. Marguerite: Could have fooled me. Roxton: They’re boys we can’t abandon them. Marguerite: No of course not it’s not what a warrior does. He’s honest, forthright…arrogant. Maybe he reminds me of someone. [A Goth raider is watching the group from a distance.] [Scene: Nighttime - the base of the treehouse. Veronica is still in her mother’s dress.] Challenger: It was a lovely party. Though, personally I always find the surprise element a little unsettling; especially if there’s one too many surprises. Veronica: I’m fine. Challenger: Now I didn’t say you weren’t. Veronica: What do you think of her? Challenger: Kaya? She’s friendly enough, very pretty. Veronica: Seems to be unanimous, but there’s something about her. Challenger: Oh Veronica she’s just happy to be among friends again; she been through quite an ordeal. Veronica: I’ve survived eleven years, on my own, by trusting my instincts. Challenger: And your instincts tell you there’s something is wrong with Kaya, or is it with Malone? [Scene: The treehouse - Malone is asleep. Along his back there are the same large pulsating veins as on Kaya. Malone awakens. Kaya enters Malone’s room and removes her robe.] [Scene: The base of the treehouse.] Challenger: Veronica it’s getting late we should go up. Veronica: You go on. I’ll be ok [a sound comes from the jungle] or not. [Veronica pulls a knife from her boot underneath her dress.] Challenger: Let’s get back to the treehouse. [They are cut off by a raptor.] Veronica: A knife and a pistol. Challenger: Not the best weapons to pierce that thick hide I agree. Veronica: I’m open for suggestions. Challenger: Summerlee! Malone! [Scene: The treehouse Malone’s chamber - Malone is in bed with Kaya kissing. Summerlee enters Malone’s room and hands him a rifle.] Summerlee: Wake up Malone! Trouble now! [Scene: The base of the treehouse.] Veronica: Summerlee! Challenger: Malone! Where the hell are they? Summerlee! [Scene: The treehouse balcony - Malone shoots at the raptor with his rifle. The raptor runs off into the jungle.] [Scene: The base of the treehouse] Challenger: Nice shooting. Veronica: Thanks guys. [Kaya appears at the balcony she touches Malone and leads him away from the balcony.] [Scene: Daytime - the trail to Gideon’s people.] Marguerite: Excuse me chosen boy I don’t suppose you could smell us out an easier route? I’m just curious at what point do we actually admit were lost? Gideon: We’re close. Marguerite: You said that an hour ago. Roxton: So? Now we’re an hour closer. [Lucas is trialing behind the group. As Lucas walks by a tree he marks it with a yellow powder. The group comes to an entrance of a cave that is sealed up.] Roxton: It’s a dead end. Marguerite: When I’m right; I’m right. Gideon: Quiet! I’m listening. [Gideon lets out a call to the jungle.] Roxton: Hmm… well maybe we took a wrong turn. Marguerite: You bet we did. [The entranced to the cave opens up.] Gideon: This way. Roxton: Oh ye of little faith. [The group enters the cave. As the entrance begins to seal up Cyan appears and stops it by wedging a club between the closures.] Cyan: At last, your mine. [Fade Out] [Scene: The cave - The group is standing before the Moya elders.] Phelan: We owe you a dept of gratitude. Roxton: It was our pleasure. Phelan: You have returned the ‘Star of Hope’ to my people. [Gideon kneels before Phelan and holds out the staff.] Gideon: This is a symbol that will lead our people to freedom. [The elders look at each other perplexed at Gideon’s words.] Phelan: Rise, my son. Lor: Phelan I don’t believe he knows. Roxton: Knows what exactly? Phelan: Did Davos not tell you? Gideon: The abbey was destroyed; my training was not complete. Lor: Of course. Gideon: That does not matter; I’ve brought you the ‘Star of Hope’. Phelan: Yes son, you did. You are the ‘Star of Hope’. Gideon: Me? Marguerite: Him? Phelan: You are the Chosen One. All your life you have been trained to unite and lead the Moya out of the darkness and back into the light. Gideon: Lead? Me? [Smoke is filling the cave chamber.] Roxton: Look! Phelan: Come, there is another way. [The group is led from the chamber, Lucas lags behind.] [Scene: Outside the cave - the Goth raiders have set up a fire and are blowing the smoke into the cave entrance.] Raider: We should go in after them. They’d be fools not to have another way out. Cyan: Oh I’m counting on it. More green wood! We need more smoke. Raider: Cyan we’ll loose them; this mountain is a honey comb of caves. Cyan: Idiot, just look for where the smoke comes out. They may travel fast but the smoke will travel faster and we’ll be waiting for them. [Scene: The cave – The group is traveling along the caverns.] Marguerite: It’s getting worse. Lucas: Maybe it was a forest fire outside the cave. Gideon: That can’t be - the door’s been shut behind us. Roxton: I know who did it. Phelan: The Goths. Marguerite: Oh no out of the frying pan into the fire. Gideon: I led them straight to you. Lucas: Look! There’s the way out. Roxton: Now let’s just think about this. We don’t know what’s out there. Gideon: Maybe not but we know what’s behind us. Lucas: Gideon’s right. The Goth’s know nothing of the caves. If we move quickly we’ll be safe. Gideon: Almost there Lor: I’ll be all right. Gideon: Help Lor Lucas: You’re the Chosen One brother - I’ve got him Roxton: Gideon let me go first I’ll scout ahead. Gideon: We can’t wait. Roxton: Damn it Gideon. [They make it outside the cave. The Goth raiders are waiting to ambush them. The Goth raider’s fire crossbows and wound Lor and another elder.] Roxton: Gideon! Come on back…back! Cyan: You idiots what good are they dead! Bring them out; the strangers you can kill! But I want the rest of them alive! [Scene: Inside the cave – The group are in a large cavern with a pool of water in the center.] Marguerite: We won’t be able to hold them off forever. Roxton: Buy me a minute. Marguerite: Are you out of your mind? [Roxton disappears under the pool of water. The Goths enter the cave and Marguerite shoots her pistol holding them off. Roxton surfaces from the pool.] Roxton: There’s a current, I felt an opening in the rock where the water falls through. Phelan: Big enough for us? Roxton: Just Marguerite: Just? What if it narrows half way down; we’ll drown. Roxton: It’s our best shot. Lucas: It’s suicide; I say we surrender. Roxton: No! They’ll kill us. [Marguerite fires off a few more shots at the Goths] Marguerite: I could use a swim. Come on! [Everyone gets in the water.] Roxton: Take a deep breath and follow me. [Scene: The treehouse - Malone is in front of a mirror shaving. He has a towel thrown over his bare shoulder covering his back; Summerlee is standing near him.] Malone: What is it? Summerlee: I’m very fond of Veronica and I wouldn’t want to see her get hurt. Malone: So? Summerlee: I’m sure you wouldn’t either. Malone: If you have something to say; say it. Summerlee: There are certain things a gentleman does and certain things a gentleman does not do. You stepped over the line last night with Kaya. Veronica doesn’t deserve this; she trusts you. Malone: It’s none of your business. Summerlee: This is her home. [Malone steps menacingly to Summerlee holding out his straight blade.] Malone: I said it’s none of your business. Summerlee: Mr. Malone! Malone: Back off! Do I make myself clear? [Malone steps away from Summerlee exposing his back. Summerlee sees the pulsating veins along Malone’s back.] [Scene: A lake - The group surfaces outside the cave.] Marguerite: We made it! Roxton: Is everyone all right? Gideon: You did it. You saved us. Roxton: We got lucky. [Scene: The jungle - Veronica is carrying a basket of food back to the treehouse. She observes Kaya leaving the compound and Malone following Kaya.] Veronica: Malone! [Malone’s keeps following Kaya not hearing Veronica. Veronica runs to catch up to Malone.] Veronica: Ned? Ned? Didn’t you hear me? Malone: Veronica? Veronica: Come with me back to the treehouse. [Malone watches Kaya getting farther away.] Malone: I can’t; Kaya needs me. Veronica: What’s going on? What’s happened to you? Malone: I have to go. [Veronica steps out of Malone’s way.] [Scene: The lake outside the cave.] Roxton: We should get moving; It won’t take them long to figure out where we went. Marguerite: You don’t have to ask me twice. Roxton: Gideon? Gideon: They’re dead - because of me. Phelan: But you’re still alive. Gideon: What, my life matters more then theirs? Marguerite: Excuse me, Goth’s - crossbows. Am I the only one who thinks we should be disappearing? Roxton: Marguerite’s right, there’s no time for doubts. Phelan: Gideon, as a small boy you were chosen to lead us to victory. Gideon: How can I? A lifetime of training and I nearly get you all killed. Roxton: But you didn’t Gideon. Phelan: Without you the Moya are just three tribes as intent on fighting each other as they are the Goths. Only the chosen one can unite us. Gideon: Well you chose wrong. I will not lead you to your death. [Gideon hands the staff to Phelan. Lucas steps forward] Lucas: I was my brother’s companion all my life; his training was my training. I can lead our people. Phelan: You were not chosen. Lucas: Right now I’m the only choice you have. [Phelan hands the staff to Lucas] Lucas: Let’s go. [Phelan, Lucas and Gideon pass Roxton and Marguerite] Marguerite: Coming your Lordship? Roxton: I’ll catch up. [Scene: the treehouse - Summerlee is drawing a picture of what he saw on Malone’s back for Challenger and Veronica.] Summerlee: Clearly whatever’s infecting Kaya has got into Malone as well. Veronica: So it’s a disease? Challenger: Probably more likely a parasite; living off the host’s body. Summerlee: It seems to weave around the spine rather like a vine around a tree trunk. Challenger: Yes much like the strangler fig. Summerlee: Which ultimately kills its host. Veronica: Are you saying Kaya is killing him? Summerlee: Kaya, or whatever she is now. When I felt for her pulse – she had none. Veronica: No pulse as in dead. Challenger: Now let’s not jump to conclusions. We have no evidence that’s it’s actually hurting him. Veronica: I have all I need. [Scene: The trail] Marguerite: Hold up! Hold up! We’re circling back. Lucas: No we’re not. Marguerite: Look I may not have a jeweled staff but I have a great sense of direction. We’re headed back toward the caves. Come on close your eyes; taste the wind, whatever. Can’t you feel the right way? Gideon: I’ll only lead you to another ambush. [Roxton joins the group and points his gun at Lucas.] Roxton: No - that’s your brother’s job. Gideon: What are you doing; I’m to blame. Roxton: That’s just what he wants you to think. Search him. Marguerite: For what? Roxton: He’s been marking the trail. [Marguerite finds the pouch with the yellow powder on Lucas.] Roxton: You didn’t lead the Goths to your people Gideon; Lucas did. Lucas: Don’t be ridiculous, they’re in this together. She planted that powder. Roxton: Warriors don’t surrender. So why were you so quick to give up at the cave? Lucas: We were cornered. Roxton: You knew they were out there. That’s why you stayed back while Gideon led the others out. You sent them out to die. Lucas: You’re wrong. Roxton: You betrayed the abbey too didn’t you? You weren’t the Goths prisoner you were their secret weapon. How else could you escape without a mark on you? Lucas: Gideon. Gideon: Lucas. Lucas: It’s not true. [Lucas grabs Gideon] Drop your weapon. Phelan: No Marguerite: Shoot him. Lucas: And risk shooting the Chosen One? Gideon: Lucas you’re my brother. Lucas: Your older brother. I should have been chosen. Drop it or he dies. Gideon: Shoot through me. Marguerite: What? Gideon: Kill me - kill him. It’s the only way to save my people. Roxton: No. Marguerite: Roxton just take a shot you can do this. Lucas: Can you; are you sure? Gideon: Shoot! [Marguerite pulls out her gun to shoot but Roxton blocks her. Gideon is able to pull away from Lucas] Gideon: This is between us brother. [Lucas knocks Gideon to the ground with the staff.] Lucas: Next time [Lucas runs off] Gideon: You should have killed him! Marguerite: He couldn’t, not again. Phelan: They’ll be on us we must run. Roxton: No, I’m done running. [Fade Out] Roxton: The Goths are right out there. Marguerite: They’ll be on us in a day. Roxton: Our only chance is to bring the fight to them. Gideon: We won’t win there’s too many of them. Roxton: I thought a warrior never turns from his enemies. Gideon: I’m not. Phelan and I know where our people are hidden. We cannot be taken alive. Marguerite: Look people betray you; that’s the way life is. It happens all the time you don’t kill yourself over it. Phelan: Gideon is right. If we are taken - no one can withstand torture indefinitely. Roxton: Dying is not an option. Gideon: No, it’s inevitable. Roxton: You play martyr and the Goths get stronger. Gideon: In another generation a new Chosen One will rise up. Roxton: People are dead because they believed in you; I believed in you. And you better believe I’ll kick your sorry ass across this jungle before I let you kill yourself. Gideon: You think I want to die? Roxton: Yes because right now that’s easier than living. I know how that feels Gideon. There’s a big difference between honor and guilt. Let’s go. Marguerite: Can I ask where? Roxton: They want to play capture the leader; let’s give them a game to remember. [Scene: The lake - Malone and Kaya find each other and kiss. Kaya pulls off Malone’s shirt.] Kaya: I knew you’d come. Malone: I can’t do this. Kaya: You can’t do anything else. [Kaya pulls off her top] Life must continue this is why we exist; to continue to exist. Malone: But Veronica. Kaya: I understand your feelings but we are Adam and Eve. We must finish this journey. It must happen now, please. Malone: I love her. Kaya: I know. [Scene: The Goth camp - Lucas is being beaten by Cyan.] Lucas: But I’ve done everything you’ve asked of me. Cyan: Except bring me your brother. Lucas: I still can. [Cyan leads Lucas over to Lor.] Lor: Traitor. Cyan: She survived the attack. We were able to persuade her to tell us were the rebels are hiding. So thankfully I don’t need you anymore. Cut his head off slowly. Lucas: Wait! I can be the Chosen One. I can deliver the rebels to you without a fight. Cyan: What makes you think you were chosen to be anything more than food for worms? [Lucas grabs the staff.] Lucas: I have this. The Moya have never seen Gideon. With this I am the ‘Star of Hope’. Cyan: Interesting, you do think well under pressure. [Scene: The lake by the treehouse.] Kaya: Thanks to you life continues. [Veronica finds them both by the lake. Veronica pulls her knife.] Veronica: Get away from him. Malone: Wait! Don’t do this. Veronica: You don’t know what you’re talking about. Malone: Yes I do! [Veronica pulls Malone’s shirt off his bare shoulder.] Veronica: She’s infected you! Kaya: The being inside him has returned to me. He’s safe now, free. Veronica: And I’ll make sure he stays that way. [Veronica tries to pass Malone to attack Kaya but he stands his ground and protects Kaya. Malone takes fold of Veronica’s arm.] Veronica: Let go of me. [Kaya walks into the lake] Malone: Listen to me would you kill a woman for wanting a child. Veronica: What? Kaya: Goodbye Ned. [Kaya disappears into the water] Malone: She was the last of a dying race; she needed a human host to procreate. She took a dying female Kaya she needed a… Veronica: A man. Malone: Veronica since the day I met you. [Veronica stops his words with her fingers on his lips] Veronica: Don’t…not now. [Veronica walks away.] Malone: Veronica? Walk you home? [They both walk back to the treehouse together.] [Scene: The group finds the Goth camp.] Roxton: [To Marguerite] Don’t fire unless it’s an emergency. [To Gideon] You ready? [The group enters the camp. Roxton takes out a raider and drags him behind some bushes. They are seen by another raider who knocks down Roxton. The raider shouts an alarm to the others. Marguerite shoots the raider and kneels beside Roxton.] Cyan: Kill them! Kill them all! Marguerite: It seemed like an emergency to me. [The group fights the Goths. Lucas comes up behind Gideon but Gideon is ready for him.] Lucas: Didn’t I teach you to never let down you guard - especially around me. [The fight continues. One of the raiders hits Marguerite across the face. Roxton tries to reach her but Cyan gets in his way. Gideon and Lucas are still fighting when Gideon gets Lucas in a choke hold on the ground.] Lucas: Gideon please – I’m your brother. [Gideon hesitates and Lucas punches him sending Gideon to the ground. Roxton and Cyan are fighting but Roxton is able to get the upper hand.] Roxton: Call your men off now. [Lucas comes up behind Roxton; just as Lucas is about to strike Gideon appears behind Lucas and fires his crossbow - killing Lucas.] Roxton: Last chance; call them off or die. Cyan: Lay down your weapons. Marguerite: That’s right drop ‘em and take a walk into the jungle; a long walk. [The raiders leave the camp and Roxton knocks out Cyan. Roxton grabs the staff, lying next to Lucas on the ground, he hands it to Gideon.] Roxton: I believe this is yours. [Epilogue] [Scene: The trail - Cyan’s hands are bound and he is on his knees.] Roxton: Gideon? Gideon: I killed my brother. Roxton: We had no choice. Gideon: I’ve only had one real battle and already I’m sick of death. How can I lead my people to war? Roxton: Maybe the best war is the one you don’t have to fight. You have Cyan; negotiate a peace with the Goths. Gideon: Negotiate. I was trained to be a warrior; not a diplomat. Roxton: It’s your call. Gideon: Is that what you would do? [Roxton nods his head] Phelan: Gideon it’s time. Gideon: I’ll never forget you. Roxton: Go on. [Phelan, Gideon and Lor lead Cyan away.] Marguerite: Hmm the boy’s done us proud. They grow up so fast these days. Roxton: How motherly of you, I wouldn’t have thought there was a maternal bone in your body. Marguerite: How little you know me. On the other hand why would I need children when I have you? End of episode.
