She signals to Roxton with a bird call. Roxton comes up behind Veronica who is kneeling in the bush. Roxton takes careful aim with his rifle and makes his shot – the bird runs away.] Veronica: I think you ruffled his feathers. Roxton: Hmmm very funny. Meanwhile our dinner’s disappearing. Veronica: Summerlee can always roast more lizard. [They start walking after the bird.] Roxton: Not while I’ve got a king size chicken in my sights. Veronica: You were high left. Roxton: Oh really and have you ever fired a gun? Veronica: Ned’s shown me once or twice. Roxton: Once or twice that doesn’t really make you an expert in firearms now does it? Veronica: Doesn’t take an expert to know you missed. Roxton: Everyone’s a critic. [They see the bird and they slowly move in.] Roxton: There Veronica: I’ll circle around left try to cut off his retreat. Roxton: I’m not going to miss. Veronica: Of course not. [Roxton moves in closer and takes aim. Just as he is firing a bright flash of light startles him and he is thrown off balance. He straightens himself.] Roxton: What the hell was that? Oh no! [Roxton runs across the river and bends down over his target. Veronica approaches from behind.] Veronica: Roxton! Sorry I was blinded by the light and he ran right by me. [Veronica approaches and also sees what Roxton hit. She bends down next to him.] Veronica: Roxton? Roxton: I didn’t miss. [A woman is lying on the ground with a bullet wound on her arm.] **** Begin Intro**** At the dawn of the century A band of adventures set out to prove the impossible The existence of a prehistoric world The Visionary The Heiress The Hunter The Scientist and The Reporter All chasing the story of a lifetime Stranded in a savage land Befriended by an untamed beauty Together they fight to survive In this amazing world of lost civilizations and terrifying creatures Always searching for a way home A way out of……the Lost World ****End Intro**** [Scene: Roxton is carrying the woman and Veronica is bringing up the rear carrying his rifle and backpack.] Veronica: You didn’t mean to shoot her; it was an accident. Roxton! It could have happened to anyone. Roxton: But it didn’t did it? It happened to me…again. [A raptor jumps out of the bush.] Veronica: Get down [Veronica fires Roxton’s rifle and kills the raptor in one shot.] Thanks Ned. [Scene: The base of the treehouse – Summerlee is sitting by the balloon.] Veronica: Professor! Summerlee: Back already? You’ll be happy to know that I’ve patched the leak in the balloon. It’s as right as rain again. Roxton: Summerlee. Summerlee: Good Lord what happened? Roxton: I shot her. Summerlee: Why on earth did you do that? Veronica: Let’s get her inside. [Scene: The treehouse] Summerlee: The bullet wound is superficial; just a crease really. Roxton: Thank God. Why is she still unconscious? Summerlee: She must have hit her head when she fell. There’s rather a nasty bump. Roxton: You’re not going to leave her? Summerlee: There’s not much else I can do. Roxton: No - not good enough. Summerlee: John she needs to rest and let her body heal itself. It’s not serious. Roxton: I’ll stay with her. Summerlee: Call me if you need anything. [Scene: The jungle - Challenger and Malone are by a river fishing while Marguerite sits on a log. Challenger holds up fish he’s caught.] Challenger: And you call this a sport. [Malone feels something on the end of his fishing rod.] Malone: Oh I think you’re about to see some action. This one’s a monster. Get the net. [Marguerite puts the net in the water and struggles with what she is pulling out.] Marguerite: Ah got it! Challenger: Well pull! Marguerite: I’m trying! [Marguerite pulls on the net she realizes she is pulling up a body. She lets go of the net running to shore. Challenger pulls on the line and the body is more visible.] [Scene: The treehouse - Roxton is pacing by the unconscious woman who slowly wakes.] Catherine: Where am I? Roxton: You’re safe that’s all that matters. Catherine: Oh no I’ve got to. Roxton: Try not to move. Summerlee! Catherine: Summerlee? Summerlee: Whoa gently now…gently. You’re supposed to be resting. Veronica: How are you feeling? Catherine: A little groggy. What happened? Roxton: I ah I shot you…sorry. Catherine: John Roxton. Roxton: You know me? Catherine: I’ve been searching for you - for all of you. [Scene: The jungle - Malone and Challenger have gotten the dead man to shore and are pulling off his pack.] Malone: No wonder he drowned his bag must weigh fifty pounds. Challenger: That’s a good theory. [Rolls the man on his stomach a knife is ticking from his back] There’s a better one. He hasn’t been in the water long. Malone: So whoever killed him can’t be too far away? Marguerite: Let’s see what his life was worth. [Marguerite dumps out the man’s backpack.] Whoa…well he certainly had a better day than we did……except for being dead. Malone: Where did he get all this stuff? Challenger: Grave robber most likely. There are many cultures who bury their dead with plates, coins, jewelry – things to ease their trip into the new world. This however [looking over a tablet] No I’ve never seen anything like this. Malone: What do these etchings mean? Challenger: I’ve no idea; not like any native language I’ve ever seen. Malone: Can you read this? Marguerite: Seems to be directions. Challenger: For the dead? Marguerite: Seek the world beyond through the window of souls. Malone: The world beyond…does that mean heaven? Challenger: Or hell. Marguerite: What if it doesn’t? What if it means our world; the world beyond the plateau? Malone: A way off. Marguerite: There’s only one way to find out. [Marguerite starts to put the things back in the pack] Challenger: What the hell are you doing? Marguerite: I’m going to find the world beyond. Malone: We don’t even know where this stuff came from. Marguerite: Sure we do; upriver. Malone: Upriver? Where this guy got himself dead? Marguerite: It’s a good place to start. [Scene: The treehouse] Catherine: My names Catherine Riley. I’m part of expedition sent here to find you. Summerlee: An expedition to rescue us? Catherine: Well mainly to rescue you Professor Summerlee. The Zoological Society pushed you to go and after you disappeared. Summerlee: Really, that’s very decent of them. Roxton: Where’s the rest of your party? Catherine: They didn’t make it. Veronica: You’re saying they’re dead; all of them? Summerlee: What happened? Catherine: We were unprepared. Roxton: Well it was a rescue mission for Pete sake. Wouldn’t you come armed to the teeth? Catherine: Well no one believed Challenger was right. We thought you’d all been lost in the Amazon. The last thing we expected was to land in the middle of savages and Neanderthals. Veronica: Ape-men. Catherine: Those who survived the welcoming committee didn’t make it past the T-rex. Veronica: But you survived somehow? Catherine: I was lucky - relatively lucky. Roxton: Yes well perhaps that’s enough for now. Miss Riley needs to rest. Catherine: Lord Roxton? Roxton: Just Roxton will do Miss Riley. Catherine: The others, Challenger – Malone – Miss Krux? Are they here? Roxton: Well actually they’ve gone fishing but they should be back soon. Are you all right? Catherine: Yeah, yeah I’m fine everything will be fine. Roxton: Just get some rest. [Roxton leaves the room. Catherine gets out of bed and reaches for a journal out of her coat. It has Marguerite’s name embossed on the cover. Catherine walks over to the bureau and pulls her gun from its holster. She checks to see how many bullets she has in the chamber.] [Scene: The trail upriver.] Challenger: It looks like he went in the river here. Malone: Scuff marks. Challenger: Yes definitely signs of a fight. [Guardian #3 is watching the three. He is totally covered except for the eyes ninja style] Two maybe three attackers. Malone: Looks like an ambush. Marguerite: Three on one, knife in the back, tossed him in the river - problem solved. Gotta admit it’s efficient. Malone: Hell of a price to pay for a few trinkets. Marguerite: But not for this. [She holds up the tablet, Guardian #3 sees it] Well come on then; faint hearts never won fair maidens. Malone: Never got knifed in the back either. Marguerite: For a chance to get off this god forsaken plateau; I am willing to shed a little blood. Challenger: Yes I just prefer if it weren’t my own. Malone: Get Down! [Malone gets to the ground taking Challenger with him. Guardian #1 throws a knife and it hits a tree trunk. He leaps out next to Marguerite. He gives a kick and breaks the tablet to pieces with his heel also knocking Marguerite down.] Malone: Marguerite! [Malone steps in front of Marguerite and he fights with Guardian #1. Marguerite is trying to pick up the pieces of the tablets scattered on the ground. Guardian #2 leaps into the fray and begins a struggle with Challenger. Challenger knocks Guardian #2 into the river. Malone is knocked down and Guardian #3 leaps into the fight. Guardian #1 is about to skewer Malone with a sword when Challenger shoots it out of his hand. Marguerite points her pistol at Guardian #3.] Marguerite: Hey! [The three Guardians run off into the jungle speaking in a foreign tongue. Challenger helps Malone off the ground.] Malone: Thanks. Challenger: Now we’re even. Marguerite: I guess that means that’s the right direction. Malone: Yeah that makes me feel a whole lot better. Where you going? Marguerite: To find a way home; all the way home. Coming? [Scene: The treehouse - Summerlee is roasting meat in the fireplace. Catherine enters the common room behind him.] Catherine: Summerlee. Summerlee: My dear girl you shouldn’t be up and about already. [Catherine pulls her gun and points it at Summerlee.] Catherine: I’m sorry - I wish there was some other way. [Fade Out] [Scene: The treehouse.] Summerlee: You’re obviously disoriented from that bump on your head… Catherine: Hands up! [Roxton and Veronica step off the elevator.] Roxton: You don’t need to tell me Summerlee; I can smell it from here - tastes like. Catherine: Hey, over there. [Roxton reaches for his gun] Don’t! On the table! Veronica: I knew it; you’re not on any rescue mission. Catherine: Yes I am; it’s just not you I’m trying to save. [Catherine throws Summerlee rope] Tie them up - tight. Roxton: Not a chance. Catherine: Don’t make me shoot you. Roxton: Look, whatever trouble you’re in; we can help you. Catherine: Stay back. [Roxton is inching closer to Catherine.] Roxton: Or else? [Catherine shoots just past Summerlee and Veronica hitting a pitcher.] Catherine: I don’t have time for this. Roxton: You can’t shoot all of us. Catherine: No? But I can kill him or maybe the girl. Which life are you willing to sacrifice? In the chair! Now! [Roxton takes a seat and Summerlee ties up Roxton’s hands.] Summerlee: Sorry old boy. Catherine: I need to know. How long was I unconscious? How much time did I lose? Summerlee: Two hours maybe three. Catherine: Three hours? They must have found the body. They must be half way up river by now. Veronica: They? They who? Catherine: I don’t have time to explain not that you’d believe me. Tighter! [Scene: The shrine - Challenger, Marguerite and Malone enter an abandoned city. It is made of stone with pillars and temples - it is starting to be overrun by ivy and bush.] Malone: What the hell is this place? Challenger: It’s some sort of shrine. These characters look like the same ones that were on that tablet. Marguerite: They are. Malone: So the other world was Heaven. Marguerite: Not necessarily. [They step up on an altar and see a statue of a T-rex. They go inside the temple where they find a glowing golden eye on a pillar.] Marguerite: Seek the world beyond through the window of souls. [Marguerite pulls her gun ready to smash the eye] Challenger: What the hell do you think you’re doing? Marguerite: What’s the eye if not the window to the soul? [Malone steps outside and whistles for Challenger to join him. The Guardians jump from the bushes and attack.] Challenger: Marguerite. Marguerite: Just hold them off. [Marguerite smashes the eye.] Malone: We could use a hand! [Marguerite pulls a compass from the eye.] Marguerite: Got it! [The ground beneath Marguerite opens up and leaves her hanging on for dear life.] Marguerite: Malone! Malone: Cover me! [He runs to Marguerite] Hang on! [Malone grabs Marguerite’s hand and begins to pull her up.] Marguerite: Watch out! [Malone turns around, not letting go of Marguerite’s hand, pulls his knife and jams it in the Guardian’s leg. Malone kicks the man in the rear causing him to fall in the pit Marguerite is hanging from.] Challenger: I can’t hold them off! [Malone is struggling to pull Marguerite up.] Marguerite: Please don’t let go of me. [A flash of light from outside the temple] Marguerite: What the hell is going on up there? [Kemper appears and begins to shoot the Guardians. The rest of the Guardians run off. Kemper approaches Challenger.] Kemper: It’s all right; I’m a friend. [Scene: Malone has pulled Marguerite up from the ledge.] Marguerite: Malone anything bad I have ever said about you. Kemper: Marguerite Krux – fancy meeting you here. Marguerite: Who the hell are you? Kemper: An ambassador from your future. [Scene: The treehouse - Roxton is leaning back in his chair putting his ropes over the open fire.] Summerlee: Do be careful Roxton. Roxton: Oh not to worry Summerlee; I probably taste like chicken. Ah got it. [Roxton walks over to Veronica to cut her loose] Veronica: I don’t understand why didn’t she kill us? Roxton: We weren’t the ones she was after. Summerlee: Do you think…surely not the others? Veronica: They should have been back by now. Roxton: You stay here Summerlee just in case. Veronica: We’ll never catch her. [Veronica cuts Summerlee loose] She’s had too much of a head start. Summerlee: The balloon! I had to fill it to check the patch it’s ready to fly. Roxton: Then let’s go and the next time I shoot her it won’t be an accident. [Scene: The shrine] Challenger: You can’t really expect us to believe you’re from the future? Kemper: A hundred years into the future to be exact. Malone: Right. Kemper: Of course you’re the skeptic; the newspaperman Ned Malone. And you sir, George Edward Challenger it’s a real honor to meet you. As well as this lady of course [Kemper kisses Marguerite’s hand] a true heroine. Malone: Marguerite? Now I know you’ve got a screw loose. Marguerite: Hey! Kemper: Well if you don’t believe me perhaps you’ll believe this [Kemper reaches to take something out of his backpack. Challenger reaches for his gun.] Challenger: Slowly does it. [Kemper pulls out a newspaper.] Kemper: Where I come from you’re exploits are legendary the stuff myths are made of. Marguerite: I like the sound of that. [They look at the paper “The London Strand” dated April 16th 1920 and see a picture of the four men and Marguerite sitting in front of them. The headline reads: “EXPLORERS TRIUMPHANT RETURN – Missing Adventures reappear with Tales of Lost World”] Malone: But we haven’t returned. Kemper: Not yet. Challenger: Oh my God look at that date. Malone: April 16th 1920 Challenger: That’s four months from now. [Scene: The jungle – Catherine is by a river, where the body was fished out, reading from the journal that has Marguerite’s name embossed.] Marguerite’s voice over: And so we left him there hoping scarcely daring to believe that this unfortunate man might lead us finally home. And then we found the shrine. [Catherine pockets the journal. She hears a raptor nearby. It charges and she turns around and fires on it. It doesn’t stop the raptor and Catherine takes off running.] [Scene: The shrine] Challenger: It seems sir that you have the advantage over us. Kemper: My name is James Kemper, but more importantly today is the day Marguerite finds the key of souls and uses it to uncover a passage off the plateau. Marguerite: So this is our ticket out of here. Malone: Well I take it back you are a hero. Challenger: Time travel it’s absurd pure fantasy. Kemper: As were your theories regarding dinosaurs. And like you - few people believed I’d survive this trip; much less succeed. Challenger: Even if we were to believe this incredible story it still doesn’t explain… Malone: What the hell you’re doing here? Kemper: I’m not the only one who’s traveled back in time. Marguerite: Of course not…damn tourists. Kemper: This isn’t a joke Marguerite. Someone doesn’t want you to make it home. [Scene: The jungle - Catherine is running from the raptor into a clearing. Another raptor appears. Roxton and Veronica are up in the balloon searching for Catherine.] Veronica: We should have spotted her by now. Roxton: And more than that we should have seen Challenger and the others by the river. Where the hell are they? [Roxton and Veronica hear the raptor and see Catherine running.] Veronica: There! Roxton: Take us down. [Roxton grabs his rifle and shoots at the raptors killing one. He drops down the rope ladder on the balloon.] Roxton: Catherine! [Catherine runs and starts to climb up the ladder.] Roxton: Hang on! Take us up! Take us up! Veronica: I am! [Catherine is at the top of the rope ladder. Roxton reaches down to her from the basket.] Roxton: Come on! I’ve got you. Catherine: You wouldn’t drop me? Roxton: You wouldn’t lie to me? Catherine: No I swear. [Catherine is hoisted into the basket.] Roxton: Now what the hell are you up to? Catherine: I’m here to kill Marguerite. [Fade Out] [Scene: The jungle clearing - The balloon is on the ground and Roxton is tying it off. Veronica jumps out of the basket.] Veronica: The future? Right Roxton: Sounds like something out of H.G. Wells. Catherine: I know everything about you, everyone does. Lord John Roxton born Jan 12th 1882 never married inherited the title after his brother was killed in a hunting accident. Dies June 23 192… Roxton: No I don’t want to know. Catherine: 1920 Veronica: That’s six months from now. She doesn’t have very much faith in you does she? [Catherine pulls out Marguerite’s journal and holds it out to Roxton.] Catherine: June 23rd; go ahead and read it; it was Marguerite’s. [Roxton reads.] Marguerite voice over: Lord John Richard Roxton died this morning the latest victim of this horrible disease ravaging London. Raptors and ape-men couldn’t kill him how strange he should be taken by something so small. I though he would live forever. Roxton: Enough games I want the truth. Catherine: That is the truth or it will be. The plague that kills you; Marguerite is a carrier. And it isn’t just London that is ravaged by it; it’s the world. Marguerite destroys half the world. [Scene: The shrine.] Challenger: And you say that man has been to the moon? Kemper: Sure…and beyond. Challenger: So Jules Verne was right. And the atom…what about the atom? Kemper: Man it’s what fueled my journey here. Challenger: Incredible. [They meet up with Marguerite and Malone] How did you get on, did you find anything? Marguerite: Destiny shouldn’t be this hard. Challenger: These ruins go on forever. Malone: Marguerite’s already found the key. Why don’t you just tell us where the door is and we’ll move on out of here. Kemper: I wish I could. The exact location wasn’t mentioned in the histories. Apparently it was a secret you kept to your grave. Marguerite: Remind me to be more chatty next time. Challenger: What I don’t understand is why anybody would want to kill Marguerite. Kemper: The door of souls leads to a network of passages it takes you weeks to get out. You nearly starve. Marguerite: Suddenly this doesn’t sound quite so appealing. Kemper: But on the way you discover the mother load of an unknown crystal; concentrates sunlight; transforms it into pure energy. Challenger: A cheap inexhaustible source of energy; now that would change the world. Kemper: And does. To some it’s worth a fortune to others cost them their fortune. And you become a very, very rich woman. Marguerite: Someone has to. Malone: But why kill her? Kemper: If Marguerite isn’t alive to discover the crystal the world becomes a different game. New winners and losers and so an assassin is hired, fanatic, she’ll stop at nothing to destroy you. Marguerite: Then let’s keep moving; Challenger. [Marguerite and Challenger go off in one direction while Kemper and Malone head in the opposite direction.] [Scene: The jungle – Roxton, Veronica and Catherine are following Challenger, Malone and Marguerite’s tracks. The three Guardians watch them from the bushes.] Roxton: I’ll check up ahead. Veronica: Catherine – what happened to my parents? Catherine: I thought you didn’t believe me? Veronica: Do I find them? Catherine: You stop looking. Veronica: No I would never stop looking. Catherine: When the others leave you stay behind to keep searching. Malone promises he’ll return for you; he never does. After a while you leave the plateau to come after him…you couldn’t have known. He was already dead; the plague. Roxton: It looks like its all clear. [A Guardian comes up behind Veronica but Catherine speaks to him in another language and he stops.] Veronica: Look out! [Two Guardians come up behind Roxton. Catherine speaks to the Guardians and they stop.] Roxton: Well there’s a trick right out of Marguerite’s bag if ever I’ve seen one. Catherine: These men are guardians of an ancient temple; sworn to keep the gateway between our two worlds closed. Veronica: The gateway Marguerite’s about to open. Catherine: Yes. Roxton: So what are they going to do about us? Catherine: They’re going to help us. [Scene: The shrine - Malone and Kemper are looking around.] Malone: So hasn’t you telling us about the door already changed history? Kemper: It seemed a risk worth taking. Malone: What happens to me? Kemper: I was wondering when you would get around to asking. Sure you want to know? Malone: No but tell me anyway. Kemper: Nothing to worry about. You come home a hero. How could Gladys refuse you after that? Malone: Gladys - I marry Gladys? Kemper: Your book about your adventures becomes a best seller. You and Gladys travel the world. When her father retires you even take over the family business; You know the newspaper. Malone: Really? I’ve never thought of myself as much of a publisher. Kemper: Well you do okay but it’s your son who really shines. He turns it into an empire. Malone: My son? Kemper: Two daughters and a son you’re a lucky man. Malone: Unbelievably lucky I’d say. [Malone pulls his gun.] Especially since Gladys can’t have children…ever. Kemper: Really? Malone: It’s her biggest regret. So tell me again how I have a son. Kemper: It’s a modern miracle. [Kemper swings around and kicks the gun from Malone’s hand. Kemper puts Malone in a head lock and Malone falls unconscious.] [Scene: The shrine - where Marguerite found the key/compass earlier.] Catherine: My God I’m really here. Marguerite? Oh my God! Veronica: What is it? What’s wrong? Catherine: We’re too late Marguerite’s already found the key of souls. Roxton: The key; but not the door…right? Catherine: They should be close by now…too close. Veronica: But as long as she doesn’t go home? Catherine: You don’t understand. As soon as she goes through the gateway, she’ll breathe in spores that have been dormant for thousand of years. Roxton: What do you mean spores? Catherine: They mutate becomes a deadly virus. Veronica: But Marguerite lives? Catherine: She has a natural immunity so she’ll carry it with her and infect everyone she meets. Roxton: There’s still a chance that… Catherine: No – I’m sorry. [Catherine commands the guardians and they hold swords to Veronica and Roxton’s throats.] Roxton: What the hell are you doing? Catherine: Million of lives are at stake. I can’t let you stop me. [Catherine leaves to find Marguerite.] Roxton: Catherine! Catherine! [Scene: The shrine - Challenger walks by and sees Malone on the ground. He walks over to check on him.] Challenger: Malone! Kemper: Thank God you’re here. Challenger: What happened? Kemper: We were attacked. Challenger: How many? Kemper: I don’t know five maybe six. Challenger: I didn’t hear any shots. [Kemper using the handle of his gun knocks Challenger out.] [Scene: Marguerite is walking still looking and sits down for a minute to rest. A guardian jumps in front of her from above. They fight for the key/compass. Marguerite is able to subdue the attacker by knocking him out – hitting him over the head with the key/compass. Marguerite looks at the key/compass and sees the arrow is moving pointing the way.] Marguerite: That’s how it works. [She goes off in the direction it’s pointing and enters another temple] This is it; this has got to be it. [Marguerite walks down the stairs into a chamber she sees where the key/compass fits into a pillar. She puts the key/compass in and a doorway slides opens.] Marguerite: I did it. I found the way home. [A gun is put to Marguerite’s head from behind.] Catherine: Don’t move. Marguerite I’ve found you at last. [Fade Out] Catherine: I wish I didn’t have to do this. Marguerite: That makes two of us. Catherine: No one knows better than me how ugly destiny can turn…except you. [Catherine cocks her gun.] Marguerite: Wait! Please don’t shoot me in the back; at least let me see your face. Catherine: All right. [Marguerite turns around and grabs Catherine’s arm they struggle and the gun goes off in the air.] [Scene: The shrine - Roxton and Veronica who are still being watched by the Guardians take the shot as an opportunity to attack the Guardians. Veronica throws Roxton a sword and he takes on one of the Guardians. They are able to subdue the Guardians.] [Scene: The chamber: Catherine and Marguerite are on the ground and Marguerite is able to get Catherine’s gun away from her. Marguerite stands up and walks toward the opening to the outer world.] Catherine: Don’t go through that door. Marguerite: Who are you? Catherine: I’m Catherine; I’m your great granddaughter. Marguerite: Don’t be ridiculous. Catherine: How else would I have this? [She pulls out Marguerite’s journal from her coat] It’s yours - the legacy you left me; along with your genetic immunity. Marguerite: Toss it over here, easy. [Marguerite picks up the journal; she looks over a page] Handwriting could be mine. Catherine: Do you have any idea what it’s like to live while everyone around you, everyone you care about dies. You will; October 15th 1922 a month after my grandmother was born. [Marguerite reads.] Marguerite voice over: They have finally traced the genesis of this horrible disease to me. I have caused thousands already to die and who knows how many more as this contagion spreads. Marguerite: No Catherine: Keep reading. Marguerite: And one other - one death more - of the man I loved. I thought I was a hero. I didn’t know I was bringing him home to die. Catherine: Home is waiting for you through that door and so is the plague that will murder millions. [Tears run down Marguerite’s face.] Marguerite: I did this? Catherine: It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t know until it was too late. [Catherine walks toward her.] Marguerite [Catherine falls into Marguerite’s arms and slides to the ground as she is shot from behind. Kemper is sitting on the steps holding a gun. Marguerite points her gun.] Kemper: Put it down now! [Marguerite lowers her gun and looks down at Catherine who is still alive] [Scene: The shrine - Roxton and Veronica come upon the unconscious Challenger and Malone. Challenger comes to.] Veronica: They’re alive Roxton: Hey Malone [taps him on the cheek] wakey wakey hey! Malone: Kemper the way home. Roxton: Where’s Marguerite? Challenger: That way. Roxton: Stay with them. [Roxton sets off to find Marguerite.] Veronica: Be careful. Malone: Watch out for Kemper. [Scene: The chamber.] Kemper: Family reunions; they’re so depressing. Marguerite: What have you done? Kemper: She was going to kill you. Marguerite: She wanted to stop me from spreading a plague. Kemper: But my dear Marguerite if you don’t destroy the world how can I save it. Marguerite: There never was any crystal was there? Kemper: Sorry but by the time you discovered my little fib you would have already been infected with the virus. Marguerite: Why? Kemper: Money of course - and power. You see I’m the one who finally finds a cure for Krux’s syndrome. Marguerite: You would condemn the world for money? Kemper: Don’t look so shocked Marguerite you’re about to do the same. Go ahead greet your destiny. [Marguerite walks toward the opening] Catherine: Don’t. Marguerite: No. Kemper: Don’t be a fool you’ll be rich, famous. You’ll have everything you ever wanted. You’ll be a little isolated in your later years but that’s the price you pay for celebrity. For God sake by all accounts you’re nothing but a cold hearted… Marguerite: Careful! Kemper: Don’t grow a conscious on me now. Marguerite: What can I say – you shouldn’t believe everything you read. Kemper: I could just force you through, lock the door behind you. You’d have to keep going or starve to death in the tunnels. Marguerite: We all have to go sometime. Kemper: Have it your way. She inherited your genetic immunity. If I have to I’ll drag her through the tunnels myself. [Behind Kemper, Roxton is slowly coming down the steps] Either way I will have my plague. [Roxton pulls his gun and the hammer clicks] Roxton: Drop the gun. Kemper: Lord John Roxton I presume. [Kemper turns around and prepares to fire but Roxton gets off the first shot. Kemper falls to the ground.] [Epilogue] [Scene: The chamber - Roxton goes over to Catherine and sits her up.] Roxton: Oh no. I’ve got you. I’ve got you. [Marguerite pulls the key from the pillar.] Roxton: What are you doing? Marguerite: Cheating fate. [Marguerite rotates the key then places it back in the pillar causing the doorway to close. Marguerite walks over to Catherine and holds her hand.] Catherine: The doorway? Marguerite: Closed…forever. Catherine: Thank you. Marguerite: What are you thanking me for…for getting you killed? Catherine: No, thanks to you I will never have lived. [Catherine dies. Roxton walks toward the stairs.] Roxton: Get back Marguerite. [Marguerite walks over to Roxton and he fires on the key/compass shattering it into pieces. The journal on the ground begins to disappear then Catherine and Kemper disappear. Marguerite puts her head on Roxton’s shoulder.] End of episode
