[Scene: The Jungle - Marguerite is taking a bath in a lake while Veronica
is nearby practicing throwing a bola. Veronica hits the head off a flower.]

Veronica: Not bad.

[Gawain is watching Marguerite from a distance.]

Gawain: The lady in the lake.

[Marguerite goes on shore and puts on a robe.]

Marguerite: Hey you’re supposed to be keeping an eye out for crocodiles.

Veronica: I am.

Gawain: No! Remove your covering

Veronica: I beg your pardon?

Gawain: Show yourself to me.

Marguerite: I think you’ve already seen more than your fair share.

[Marguerite and Veronica walk away but stop when Gawain grabs Marguerite’s
arm.]

Gawain: You are not dismissed

[Marguerite slaps his arm away.]

Marguerite: Hey, first lesson little boy. No means no.

Gawain: You struck me.

Vordred: A transgression of the gravest order, as I will bare witness your
highness.

Marguerite: Highness?

Veronica: You’ve got to be kidding.

Vordred: No woman may touch King Gawain. Kill her.

[Veronica pulls her knife ready to defend themselves from the guards.]

Gawain: Wait! There is one woman who may touch the King.

Vordred: But your highness.

Gawain: His betrothed.

Veronica: As in marriage?

Vordred: Sire I do not think it wise.

Marguerite: I’m with tall dark and moody here. As far as husbands go I’ve
always had something a little larger in mind.

Gawain: Then die you must.

Marguerite: On the other hand, I’ve always hoped to be a June bride.

Vordred: What about the dowry sire?

Marguerite: Veronica, why don’t go back to the treehouse and get the dowry
and bring as many of them as you can.

Veronica: Got it.

Vordred: Do you know the meadow by the stream? I will send a guide to
escort you from there; if you are not back at our camp by nightfall.

Veronica: Don’t worry, I’ll be there.

[Marguerite takes Gawain’s arm.]

[Scene: The treehouse - Veronica comes up the elevator. Roxton and Malone
are relaxing smoking cigars and drinking whiskey.]

Roxton: Back so early?

Veronica: Put your boots on boys, we’re going to a wedding.

[The three go through Marguerite’s trunk.]

Roxton: Who ever would have thought I would be putting together
Marguerite’s dowry hmmm? [He picks up and admires her silk undergarments]
Well…well…well. [He pulls out candle sticks] Ah yes always a safe wedding
gift.

[Malone pulls out a picture frame]

Malone: Likewise for this.

[Veronica grabs Marguerite’s clothes and tossed them to the floor]

Veronica: Oh I know it must be somewhere in here.

[She pulls out a black velvet pouch.]

Malone: Whoa, that’s Marguerite’s jewelry.

Veronica: I know.

Malone: She’ll have a fit.

Veronica: How often does a lady get married?

Roxton: Yes well, her wedding your funeral.

[Scene: Gawain’s camp.]

Gawain: After we’re married, I’ll throw a grand ball in your honor at the
castle.

Marguerite: Castle?

Gawain: This is just my hunting camp, my kingdom lies many days journey
away.

Marguerite: You know your highness.

Gawain: You may call me by my given name - Gawain.

Marguerite: Okay, Gawain about this grand ball. It’s not that I don’t
think you’re cute, handsome I mean. But can you really see the two of us.
I mean I’m old enough to be your…

Gawain: Mother?

Marguerite: Sister is more what I had in mind.

Gawain: Vordred!

Vordred: My King.

Gawain: I am to be married am I not?

Vordred: Indeed.

Gawain: A grand and glorious celebration foretold in legend?

Vordred: Most assuredly.

Gawain: Then why are we not flying the royal flags as I commanded?

Vordred: Ah, alas sire, your knights have reported ape-men approaching on
our territory. Headhunters have been sited to the East and - well would
there were more hours in the day.

Gawain: You have one hour.

Vordred: As you command.

Marguerite: So hard to get good help these days.

[Scene: The Royal tent.]

Marguerite: Okay - let’s try this once again from the top.

Gawain: You have a very beautiful body.

Marguerite: How old did you say you were?

Gawain: Lovely eyes - why don’t you smile for me.

Marguerite: You‘re not listening.

Gawain: Our union is pre-destined from the moment you rose from the water
like the lady in the lake.

Marguerite: I was taking a bath. Gawain - listen this is real life and
there aren’t any white knights in shining armor. Believe me I know. It’s
just a fairy tale.

Gawain: No, this is our history and now you will be part of it.

[Scene: Gawain’s camp – Vordred is walking outside when Ugo runs up.]

Ugo: News from the border scouts my lord. I think you’ll be pleased.

Vordred: Speak

Ugo: The woman has been spotted; there are two men with her.

Vordred: How timely, Make sure they are appropriately greeted.

Ugo: Yes my lord I knew you’d be pleased.

Vordred: Now

[Scene: The royal tent – Gawain is showing Marguerite a book filled with
pictures that tell the history of his people.]

Gawain: Their quest for the Holy Grail stranded my ancestors in this world,
so they built a new kingdom here - a new Camelot.

Marguerite: In the middle of the jungle?

Gawain: It hasn’t been easy. Over the centuries the dragon has claimed
many lives; including those of my parents.

Marguerite: Dragon? [Gawain turns the page and it contains the picture of
a fire breathing T-Rex] Oh of course the dragon.

Gawain: It is said only one who is true of heart can slay the creature.
This is Esme she will fit you.

Marguerite: Fit me?

Esme: Your wedding dress, my lady.

Marguerite: Oh really so soon? You know speaking from personal experience
I’ve found that long engagements usually work out the best.

Gawain: The wedding will take place as planned.

Marguerite: What about the invitations, china patterns, finding a decent
caterer?

Gawain: Silence. By sunset tomorrow you will be my Queen

Marguerite: Let’s hope you’ve got something in off white.

[Scene: The meadow – Roxton, Malone and Veronica wait]

Veronica: What’s wrong?

Roxton: We’ve been here for an hour. You’re sure this is the right place?

Veronica: They said due west of the river.

Malone: So is Africa.

Veronica: Well we can’t just leave her.

Roxton: Tempting

Malone: Yeah but I guess not.

[Three men on horseback approach]

Roxton: Take a look.

Malone: What do we have here?

Veronica: It must be the Kings escort.

Roxton: I’m not so sure about that, look closer. [The riders have weapons
drawn.] It seems we’ve already worn out our welcome.

Malone: Don’t we always.

Roxton: Heads up everybody, let’s not kill anyone unless we have to.

Malone: Halt

[The riders get closer. One rider is shot and falls back being dragged on
the ground by his horse. Roxton shoots the second rider who falls to the
ground. Veronica throws her bola which wraps around the third riders neck.
Malone punches the third rider and pulls him off his horse.]

Malone: What the hell was that all about?

Roxton: Marguerite must be in more trouble than we thought.

Veronica: Well then let’s get a move on.

[Veronica mounts a horse and gallops away]

Roxton: I think that was our cue to leave.

Malone: She has a way of doing that.

[Scene: Marguerite’s tent – Marguerite is being fitted by Esme; who is
tugging roughly on the material of the bodice Marguerite is wearing.]

Marguerite: Oww, I need to breathe don’t I. I get the feeling there’s
something you’d like to share.

Esme: Not at all my lady.

Marguerite: Didn’t need that rib anyway. Look Esmy you must know the
routine around here pretty well.

Esme: I its true.

Marguerite: Is there any way someone could escape; hypothetically speaking
of course?

Esme: They could drop down a deep well ne’er to be heard from again.

Marguerite: I was thinking more along the lines of dark night, swift horse.
[Esme tugs] I’ll take that as a no.

Esme: I’ve been the King’s nurse since the day he was born I have.

Marguerite: I’m amazed he survived this long.

Esme: It’s not fair - the weight of the Kingdom on the shoulders of a boy.

Marguerite: Then help me stop him from making a mistake.

Esme: Don’t see it myself, some would say pretty I suppose.

Marguerite: Thanks

Esme: Your lips speak pleasant enough but your eyes always lookin somewhere
else they are.

Marguerite: It’s true. I don’t love him, he’s just a boy.

Esme: He’s my King and he wants you so he shall have you, but if you’ve
ever harm him Queen or no Queen.

Marguerite: I think we understand each other.

[Scene: Vordred is looking at the royal flag atop one of the tents]

Vordred: May it soon be his head on that pole. The men were dispatched?

Ugo: Yes I think you’ll be pleased.

Vordred: Excellent we all know how dangerous these jungle tracks can be.

Ugo: Horrible such terrible ways to die.

[Three riders approach the camp]

Vordred: Shhh. If I’m not mistaken, I think we’re about to hear of the
terrible tragedy now.

[They see it is not the riders they sent out]

Ugo: Apparently you’re mistaken.

[Vordred grabs Ugo by the throat]

Vordred: You have failed.

Ugo: No the brigands.

Vordred: I would rip out your tongue if I didn’t need it to lick my boots.
Welcome strangers.

[Fade out]

[Scene: Roxton is with Marguerite in a tent. Ugo is in the corner making
an X in a book with a quill.]

Marguerite: So where’s the part where we blast our way out of this berg.

Roxton: One slight glitch - the knights took all our weapons. They get
nervous when armed strangers walk around their camp.

Marguerite: You just handed over the guns?

Roxton: Well we were a little out numbered. It was either that or die.

Marguerite: Excuse excuses.

Roxton: My god Marguerite what the hell have you gotten us into this time.

Marguerite: Is that any way to talk to a Queen.

Roxton: Future Queen, not to mention a royal pain in the…

[Ugo puts a sword to Roxton’s throat]

Ugo: Ugo at your service shall I kill the unpleasant one now.

Marguerite: Let me think about that.

Ugo: I’m also well versed in several forms of torture.

Roxton: Marguerite?

Marguerite: On second thoughts no why should I have all the fun. You may
leave us now.

Roxton: This is not a game.

Marguerite: I know that.

Roxton: No you don’t. You’re playing with dynamite and it’s going to blow
up right in our faces.

[Gawain and Vordred watch Roxton and Marguerite from an opening in the
tent.]

Vordred: There you see that anger; the way they quarrel.

Gawain: No you are wrong Vordred.

Vordred: I’m afraid not sire. I know the signs. [They walk away from the
tent] Those two are obviously in love.

Gawain: I have claimed her - I am King.

Vordred: Yes as was Arthur but did that stop Lancelot?

Gawain: What are you saying?

Vordred: The gallant young King betrayed by his Queen and her shining
knight.

Gawain: They would not dare.

[Vordred grabs Gawain by the arm.]

Vordred: Have I not always counseled you wisely? After your parents died
did I not take you under my wing? Arthur showed Lancelot mercy and Camelot
fell. That man, my brave young king, is your Lancelot. The fate of your
empire hangs in the balance. I pray you do not make Arthur’s mistake.

[Scene: Veronica and Malone are walking in the camp]

Malone: It’s Camelot in the jungle I couldn’t even have written this.

Veronica: Now’s your chance put that writer’s imagination to work. We need
a happy ending for Marguerite.

Malone: Not to mention the rest of us.

Veronica: What is it?

[They see in the distance the wounded riders walking back to camp]

Malone: Look whose back for more.

Veronica: Easy we don’t have any weapons.

[Vordred heads off the men]

Vordred: You fools why do the strangers live?

[Vordred runs one of the men through with a knife]

Veronica: Cold blooded murderer.

Malone: Shhh

Vordred: Now you know what has to be done. Go and finish the job you
failed so miserably at. Make sure there’s no connection to me - go.

Malone: Something’s rotten in Camelot.

[Scene: Veronica is standing by a tree while the two men approach.
Veronica is dangling out her leg enticingly.]

Veronica: Over here boys. Hurry I’m waiting.

[The two men hurry over to Veronica. Malone appears behind them and knocks
one out with a tree branch. Veronica kicks the other man while Malone grabs
the man in a choke hold.]

Malone: So am I. Okay let’s talk.

[Scene: The Royal tent – Musicians are playing as Gawain, Vordred, Roxton
and Marguerite are served food and wine.]

Roxton: So you have no idea who the attackers were?

Vordred: We freed the kingdom of bandits years ago.

Gawain: No one would dare trespass on my territory.

Vordred: You see it’s impossible.

Roxton: Yes well impossible or not - it happened.

Vorfred: Yes well as you claim.

Roxton: Are you calling me a liar?

Gawain: Sit down sir, you forget where you are.

Marguerite: Why would he make up a story like that?

Vordred: I wouldn’t presume to understand his motivations.

Roxton: All right on your feet.

Marguerite: Roxton - dynamite remember? You were right okay.

[Scene: Outside the camp – Veronica and Malone are tying up the two men
against a tree.]

Veronica: Do you really think this will work?

Malone: You heard them - Vordred’s going to try and topple the King. We’ll
need our guns.

Veronica: Even if we find them, who’s going to believe us?

Malone: Anyone who doesn’t want to get shot.

[Scene: Malone and Veronica are searching tents.]

Malone: Nothing you?

Veronica: No

Malone: One more shot.

Veronica: Some of the knights must be loyal to the King. How do we know
who’s on our side and who’s on Vordreds?

Malone: They try to kill us they’re not on our side.

[They step into a tent. Malone finds a locked wooden chest. He attempts to
pick the lock.]

Malone: Piece of cake.

Veronica: Hurry up.

Malone: What did I tell ya - pay dirt.

[Ugo catches them pulling out guns from the chest.]

Ugo: Charming - why not try yes why not try.

[Ugo puts a sword to Malone’s throat]

Veronica: Another time.

[Scene: The Royal tent – Ugo brings in Veronica and Malone.]

Marguerite: Veronica?

Roxton: What’s happened?

Gawain: What is the meaning of this?

Ugo: I think you’ll be pleased.

Vorfred: Well speak.

Ugo: I caught them going after their weapons.

Vordred: Ah hah you see Gawain you are in danger.

Veronica: Only not from us.

Malone: This man plans to kill you and takeover your kingdom.

Vordred: My lord you see how clumsily they try to confuse and deceive us.

Marguerite: Look buster if anybody’s a little shady around here.

Malone: You must believe us. Your life is in danger.

Gawain: I’ve seen no evidence.

Marguerite: Gawain - listen to me. I believe them.

Vordred: Of course you do, you’re one of them.

Marguerite: Who would you believe your future wife or the prince of
darkness here?

Gawain: Vordred has been my adviser all my life. Yet how can I not believe
the woman I love?

Vordred: There is one way that we can be certain. Let the strangers face
the dragon.

Veronica: Dragon?

Marguerite: T-Rex

Vordred: If they are true of heart then they will return with the dragons
tooth. But if not then this one [he points to Veronica] will be sacrificed
for the treasoner she most surely is.

Veronica: You

Marguerite: No please if you do love me.

Gawain: He’s right - if you speak the truth a sword and a true heart is all
you’ll need.

Roxton: Sword?

Malone: Against a T-Rex?

Marguerite: It’s murder.

Vordred: Silence - King has spoken.

[Fade Out]

[Scene: The Royal tent.]

Marguerite: It’s not too late to stop this.

Gawain: I have given my command.

Marguerite: So given other one.

Gawain: I’m not a custom to taking orders from a woman.

Marguerite: And I am not a custom to begging. [She kneels] Please Gawain
they’re my friends.

Gawain: And I am your King.

[She rises]

Marguerite: You’re not a King you’re an arrogant child - spoiled little
brat.

Gawain: Vordred warned me this would happen. You love him.

Marguerite: Who?

Gawain: The one called Roxton.

Marguerite: Oh please.

Gawain: I may be only a boy but I know something of the ways of men and
women.

Marguerite: You know nothing.

Gawain: How dare you speak to your King that way!

Marguerite: It takes more than a crown to call yourself a King.

Gawain: Halt! I have not given you permission to leave! Marguerite!
Please.

Marguerite: Yes?

Vordred: Your highness. Is something amiss?

Gawain: Of course not be gone wench, you will do my bidding later.

[Scene: Ugo leads Roxton and Malone to a clearing]

Roxton: Now what?

Ugo: The dragon hunts on the other side of the valley.

[A guard hands Roxton a sword]

Malone: Where’s mine?

Ugo: The squire does not get a sword.

Malone: Squire?

Roxton: It wasn’t mine idea.

Malone: Why not just kill us.

Roxton: See - if the dragon kills us Vordred’s hands are clean.

Ugo: And not to worry if you’re pure of heart you have nothing to fear.
Maybe the dragon will just give you his tooth.

[Ugo and the guards leave.]

Roxton: If it’ll make you feel any better you can hold the damn sword.

Malone: Oh no you’re the knight. So Sir Roxton what is the plan?

Roxton: I haven’t a clue - whoa wait up a second. [They see a T-Rex hoof
print in the ground.] Damn his foot is bigger than this sword.

Malone: Don’t look at me - I’m just the squire.

[They hear the sound of a T-Rex growling in the distance.]

Roxton: Tell that to him.

[Scene: Marguerite’s tent - Marguerite is having another fitting for her
wedding dress]

Esme: Not bad in a pinch.

Marguerite: Forget about the damn dress. You haven’t heard anything I’ve
said at all.

Esme: Oh I missed a bit I did.

Marguerite: Gawain trusts you. He’d listen to you.

Esme: Vordred’s no saint that’s for sure but killer, conspirator? If he
wanted the King dead why wait till now?

Marguerite: In case you haven’t noticed Gawain is becoming a man with a mind
of his own. Not to mention a bride and God help me possibly an heir. If
Vordred can seize control now Gawain’s kingdom will be his.

Esme: Let’s say I believe you.

Marguerite: It’s about time.

Esme: All the more reason for the marriage to go ahead as planned.

Marguerite: What

Esme: King and Queen - if Vordred’s mad for the throne he’d have to kill
both of you to get it.

Marguerite: Great

[Scene: Nighttime Gawain’s camp – Veronica is locked up in the stocks.
Marguerite sneaks up on the sleeping guard. She tries to get the keys off
the guard but he is startled.]

Guard: What are you doing?

Marguerite: My earring.

Guard: What?

Marguerite: Yes…yes a wedding present from our gracious King. Please -
there’s a fine reward.

Guard: Reward?

Marguerite: Yes

Guard: Well where did it drop?

Marguerite: Over here.

[The guard bends down and Marguerite knocks him over the head with a
bucket.]

Veronica: Hurry up.

Marguerite: You’re welcome.

Veronica: I can hear someone coming.

Marguerite: It’s just your imagination.

Guards: Halt!

Veronica: My imagination just brought a friend.

Guards: What’s this - after them.

Veronica: They’re right behind us.

Marguerite: I know I know - it’s so dark out here I can’t even see where I’m
going.

Veronica: At this rate will never lose them.

Marguerite: All you try escaping in a dress.

Veronica: Come on.

Guards: They can’t be far.

[The guards run under a tree unaware Marguerite and Veronica are above
them.]

Marguerite: Gotta hand it to you. That was a great idea.

[The branch they’re sitting on starts to give way.]

Veronica: Don’t move.

Marguerite: Don’t breathe. [The branch cracks they fall from the tree.]
Like I said great idea.

[Veronica turns to run but Marguerite doesn’t.]

Veronica: At least I brought us some… they won’t stay fooled for very long.
  They’ll be back any second.

Marguerite: I can’t.

Veronica: What? We come all this way for you and now you want to stay?

Marguerite: How can I leave the kid in the clutches of the wicked
stepfather?

Veronica: Oh you picked a lousy time go soft.

Marguerite: Think about it - Vordred is going to kill him. Leaving him will
be like sentencing him to death.

Veronica: In case you’ve forgotten that’s just what they’ve done to Roxton
and Malone.

Marguerite: You’re a better tracker than I am. You go find the men. I’ll
go back and look after Gawain.

Veronica: That kid really got to you didn’t he?

Guards voices: They must be close.

Marguerite: Go

[Scene: The camp – Warning trumpets are played. The guards are scattering
to find Veronica. Marguerite sneaks into Gawain’s tent.]

Gawain: Why are you not in your bedchamber?

Marguerite: Who can sleep with all the noise?

[Marguerite sits on Gawain’s bed and she pats the place beside her. He
joins her.]

[Gong]

Gawain: Enter

Vordred: Sire, the woman has escaped.

Gawain: Locked in the stocks guarded by my knights?

Vordred: She must have had help.

Marguerite: I’ve never been so insulted.

Vordred: Where were you tonight?

Ugo: Not in your chamber I already looked.

Marguerite: I bet you did.

Vordred: Well?

Gawain: She was with me.

Marguerite: I was? I was.

Vordred: Sire, may I? [Gawain joins Vordred over in the corner.] I have a
witness - the knight she knocked unconscious. Like yourself - I certainly
am aware of the woman’s charms, but where the security of the kingdom is at
stake.

Gawain: You accuse me of lying?

Vordred: No…no your grace not lying.

Gawain: Then what?

Vordred: Nothing - my mistake your highness.

[Vordred and Ugo leave.]

Marguerite: You lied for me.

Gawain: You’re right, I’m not a King I’m a fake.

Marguerite: Gawain don’t.

Gawain: I should have known better. Only a fool rules with his heart and
not his head.

Marguerite: No not a fool just a man.

[Scene: Vordred and Ugo talk in a tent]

Vordred: That woman’s influence is growing. Soon I won’t be able to
control him at all. Well desperate times call for desperate measures.

Ugo: What do you mean?

[Vordred grabs Ugo by the throat]

Vordred: You feel that? That’s the feel of power slipping through my
fingers. Not very pleasant is it? The King must not make it through his
wedding alive. Now get to work.

[Scene: Morning – Malone and Roxton looking for the T-Rex.]

Roxton: We’ve been going in circles.

Malone: You’re crazy.

Roxton: It’s the third time I’ve seen that tree.

Malone: We’ve been all around this valley. If there’s a T-Rex around here
we would’ve heard by now.

[A T-Rex growls.]

Roxton: You were saying Malone?

[Fade Out]

Roxton: I wonder if this is how Saint George did it?

Malone: Wonder later lets get the hell out of here.

Roxton: We can’t keep this up.

Malone: Any ideas?

Roxton: Yeah split up.

Malone: What?

Roxton: He can’t follow both of us. [The T-Rex follows Roxton] Me and my
big mouth.

[Roxton comes to a dead end at the bottom of a cliff. Malone is at the top
of the cliff.]

Malone: Throw me the sword.

Roxton: Are you out of your mind?

Malone: Trust me.

Roxton: Oh yeah.

[Roxton throws the sword up to Malone. The T-Rex corners Roxton]

Roxton: Any time Malone!

[Malone levers the rocks with the sword attempting to push them off the
cliff. His first try only one rock falls.]

Roxton: That’s it.

Malone: Dammit

[Malone kicks the rocks which cause an avalanche. The rocks fall on top of
the T-Rex. Malone goes to the bottom where Roxton was and he can’t see
him.]

Malone: Roxton?

[Scene: The Royal tent: A banquet is set out full of food and drink.
Marguerite is in her wedding dress. She tosses the bouquet of flowers she’s
holding on the table.]

Marguerite: Where the hell is everybody?

Gawain: Good morning.

Marguerite: Bad luck to see the bride; guess we’ll have to postpone.
[Vordred and Ugo enter.] Speaking of bad luck.

Vordred: Now…now this is a day of joy and celebration - and in that spirit.

Gawain: Vordred wants to make a wedding toast.

Marguerite: He does - does he?

[Ugo holds out a serving platter with three goblets of wine. When Gawain
reaches for one goblet Ugo turns the serving platter so he is forced to grab
a particular goblet.]

Vordred: Blessed are we on this magnificent day. May the glory and the
spirit of your love shine on all the kingdom of Gawain - long live the King.

Marguerite: Stop!

Gawain: Marguerite?

Marguerite: Don’t drink.

Vordred: Your highness?

Gawain: Explain yourself.

Marguerite: Bad year I think.

Vordred: Enough foolishness - now let us drink.

Marguerite: No

Gawain: I don’t understand?

Marguerite: Poison

Gawain: Poison?

Ugo: How dare you.

Vordred: Poison really? Sire I am insulted by this accusation.

Marguerite: Insulted enough to drink the Kings wine?

[Marguerite holds out the poisoned wine for Vordred to drink. Gawain grabs
the goblet and throws it to the ground.]

Gawain: Enough! I’ve had enough suspicions – innuendos! I’m sick of it!

Marguerite: I was only.

Gawain: Be gone get out of my sight.

[Marguerite leaves. Vordred pats Gawain on the shoulder.]

[Scene: The bottom of the cliff - Malone moves rocks around looking for
Roxton.]

Malone: Come on you son of a bitch - where are you?

Roxton: Make that ‘Sir’ son of a bitch.

Malone: I thought you were goner for sure.

Roxton: That makes both of us.

Malone: It worked.

Roxton: Good job Malone. Now let’s clear some of these rocks, get our
tooth and go home.

[Veronica appears at the top of the cliff.]

Veronica: Whoa - how’d you do that?

Roxton: Just call him Saint George.

[Scene: Camp – Marguerite runs from Gawain he catches up to her.]

Gawain: Marguerite - Marguerite please wait.

Marguerite: First you want me to leave now you want me to stay - make up
your mind.

Gawain: What you did back there in front of Vordred - it was very brave, I
was touched.

Marguerite: Touched in the head.

Gawain: No, your concern for me was very moving.

Marguerite: You’ve got a funny way of showing it.

Gawain: Vordred chose most of the retainers for this hunting trip.

Marguerite: So?

Gawain: So, that wine was poisoned.

Marguerite: It was.

Gawain: To force our hand now would be too dangerous. If Vordred’s
allegiance is false, than who here can I trust?

Marguerite: So that was all an act?

Gawain: If we can make it safely back to my kingdom I’ll have my loyal
supporters - but here.

Marguerite: You believe me?

Gawain: How could I not believe my Queen?

[Scene:  Outside camp - Esme is trying to leave camp on a horse drawn wagon;
the back piled with hay.]

Ugo: Halt!

Esme: Let me pass.

Ugo: The King cannot be found.

Esme: Pity that; get out of me way.

Ugo: I know what you’re up to.

Esme: You stop that.

Ugo: Spiriting our King to safety.

Esme: You’re mad.

Vordred: No I’m mad. [Vordred sticks a sword in the hay] Where is Gawain?

Esme: I would not betray my one true King.

Vordred: That’s admirable indeed. [Vordred puts the sword to Esme’s
throat.] Gawain! I will slice this woman into a million pieces if I have
to! You have one last chance!

[Gawain and Marguerite remove the hood of their monk robes.]

Gawain: No!

Vordred: Well, well, well let’s put divine right to the test.

Marguerite: Gawain no! He is still a boy.

Vordred: Well then which of you have the courage to be the Kings champion
and fight me to the death - anyone?

Gawain: You see I have no one. I have no champion.

[Roxton and Malone appear.]

Roxton: Oh I wouldn’t be so sure about that your highness. [Roxton throws
the T-Rex tooth on the ground.] This one’s on me.

Vordred: So be it.

[Scene: The jousting arena. Roxton is seated on a horse at one end -
Vordred on the other.]

Malone: Roxton are you sure about this?

Roxton: Hell no.

Malone: Please tell me this isn’t your first joust.

Roxton: Sorry but how hard can it be. All I have to do is stick him before
he sticks me.

Malone: Wouldn’t it be easier just to shoot him.

Roxton: Spoken like a faithful squire; but when in Rome or in this case
Camelot. Now, shut up Malone and pass me my lance.

Malone: Good luck

Roxton: Thanks I’ll need it.

[Marguerite is sitting next to Gawain under a tarp in the gallery. Veronica
is standing next to Marguerite. Gawain steps forward and signals to begin
the joust. Roxton and Vordred, on horseback, make a few passes at each
other. Roxton unseats Vordred who has Ugo give pass him his sword. Roxton
gets off his horse and has Malone hand him his sword.]

Malone: Be careful.

Vordred: Damn you to hell!

Roxton: After you - I insist.

[Roxton and Vordred begin to sword fight. Roxton elbows Vordred in the face
knocking him down on the ground. Vordred releases his weapon and raises his
arms in defeat. Roxton stands over Vordred with his sword to Vordred’s
throat. Gawain runs forward.]

Gawain: No! Do you yield? In front of your peers do you yield to my rule?

Vordred: I yield.

Gawain: Then rise.

Roxton: Are you sure about this?

Gawain: Vordred is my enemy but he is still a noble of the realm. He
deserves a trial.

[Vordred gets up off the ground and bows to Gawain. When he rises he
unsheathes a knife and throws it at Gawain. Marguerite yells “No” and steps
in front of Gawain. The knife plunges into her shoulder. Roxton in a rage
says “yield this” and runs his sword through Vordred. Roxton runs to
Marguerite. Vordred lies on the ground.]

Vordred: Ugo help me!

Ugo: Not very pleasant - is it?

[Roxton pulls the knife from Marguerite’s shoulder.]

Marguerite: My knight in shining armor.

[Gawain observes the obvious connection between the two and is resolved that
Marguerite will not be his bride. Marguerite faints in Roxton’s arms.]

Roxton: A little blood but you’ll be fine…you’ll be fine.

[Scene: Gawain’s tent - Marguerite awakens in her normal cloths. Gawain
sits by her bedside.]

Gawain: You fainted.

Marguerite: I guess I did. What’s this?

Gawain: Your friends are waiting outside for you.

Marguerite: I don’t understand? What about the wedding?

Gawain: You already offered your life for me once. I don’t have the right
to ask for that again. Especially when I know your heart belongs to someone
else.

Marguerite: I think that’s the nicest brush off I’ve ever heard.

Gawain: Besides there’s much to do: Routing out conspirators; solidifying
allegiances; forming a united realm.

Marguerite: Then what?

Gawain: Then hopefully I’ll be worthy of someone like you.

Marguerite: You already are. [She gently kisses Gawain on the lips.]

[Epilogue]

[Scene: The treehouse - Summerlee and Challenger step off the elevator.
The others are relaxing.]

Roxton: Well looks who’s here.

Challenger: Hello everyone.

Summerlee: You’ll never guess what happened to us?

Marguerite: You’re right - why don’t you just tell us.

[Summerlee holds up a flower]

Summerlee: Do you know what this is?

Malone: A flower.

Challenger: An orchid - correct.

Summerlee: Ah yes but not just any orchid an entirely new variety.

Marguerite: Great

Veronica: Okay

Roxton: Fabulous

Challenger: And what the hell have you lot been doing?

Summerlee: Apart from lounging around and making an awful mess.

Veronica: Well Marguerite almost married a boy King.

Marguerite: Veronica was nearly executed by his evil grand vizier.

Roxton: But luckily Malone managed to slay the dragon with one sword.

Malone: And Roxton won the joust; saving the King and his kingdom.

Challenger: Good try.

Summerlee: Yes really.

Marguerite: And we all lived happily ever after.
