Kristin: (V.O.) After Winter Formal, two things were certain in Laguna: Jessica and Jason were a disaster.

Jessica: Oh I’m sorry. Am I not allowed to ask questions?

Jason: Shut up! Get over it.

Kristin: (V.O.) And I was missing Stephen.

Alex H: Well if you miss Stephen it’s only natural.

Kristin: I don’t know if it’s Stephen that I miss or just like the comfort of like having a boyfriend.

Kristin: (V.O.) I’d been hanging out Talan.

Talan: Do you think I care about you?

Kristin: (V.O.) But he just wasn’t boyfriend material. And the last time I saw Stephen it was really bad.

Stephen: It’s so hard to like look you in the eye.

Kristin: (V.O.) As usual he went running back to Lauren.

Stephen: Happy birthday and I love you.

Kristin: (V.O.) But when it came time to pick a Valentine guess who he chose.

CUT TO: Alex H’s House

Kristin and Alex H are talking.

Alex H: Okay so Stephen called you the other day?

Kristin: Yeah he wants to go out to dinner.

Alex H: Really?

Kristin: ‘Cause he’s coming into town for the weekend so…I don’t know. It’ll be fun to go to dinner with him. I haven’t seen him for a while. I think the last time I saw him was Lo’s party. ‘Cause we had a little bit of a falling out ‘cause of Matt.

Alex H: Does he think it’s like a date? Or more like…

Kristin: Well he asked me out for Valentine’s Day so I guess a date.

Alex H: You’re a pimp.

Kristin: I’m a P-I-M-P.

Opening Credits

CUT TO: LC’s House

Lo and her boyfriend are going to see LC.

Lo: Okay this is Lauren’s house. It’s a mansion. A mansion over looking the ocean literally. (They go inside. Lo hugs LC.) Babycakes! How are you?

LC: Good.

Lo: Good. LC this is Patrick.

LC: Hi I’m Lauren. Nice to meet you.

Lo: This is my boyfriend.

Patrick: This house is amazing.

LC: Thank you.

Lo: Isn’t it pretty?

Patrick: Lo where’s your house? Can you see it from here?

Lo: (Points to it) It’s like that little speck out of all the specks.

LC: So how long have you guys been officially together?

Patrick: Officially?

LC: Uh huh.

Lo: I don’t really like count,

Patrick: Since like right before winter break.

Lo: We just kinda guesstimate.

Patrick: A couple months. 

LC: I don’t think Lo’s ever made over a month.

Lo: Hey watch it. I actually like him. 

LC: You should feel very special.

Patrick: Well that’s good.

Lo: So who’s your latest valentine?

LC: I don’t have a valentine.

Lo: You’re lying.

LC: No I swear I don’t have a valentine.

Lo: You’re lying.

Patrick: Oh sorry LC.

LC: It’s okay.

Patrick: I think you’ll find someone.

Lo: What is up with Stephen?

LC: He didn’t call me.

Lo: What a f**k face.

LC: He’s got his own thing. I hate valentine’s day.

CUT TO: Dieter’s House

Dieter goes outside when Stephen shows up.

Stephen: Hey guy.

Dieter: What are you doing?

Stephen: Surprise, surprise.

Dieter: What are you up to?

Stephen: I don’t know. I’m in town. Just for the weekend.

Dieter: Yeah.

Stephen: Yeah. I’m gonna take Kristin out to dinner. Just for like a little Valentine’s Day dinner, nothing…no not even really like anything special, I just…I don’t know. I need a Valentine.

Dieter: Just casual?

Stephen: Just…I don’t know…yeah. Lauren’s pissed. I didn’t call her or anything so I owe one for her, make it up to her. But yeah no one really knows I’m in town so…on the DL. So what are you doing? Got a little Valentine’s Day?

Dieter: Got a good night, a good night.

Stephen: Yeah mine’s strictly friendly.

Dieter: I’m strictly sexy.

CUT TO: Kristin’s House

Kristin: I hate Valentine’s Day.

Alex H: You don’t hate it. At least you have something to do tonight.

Kristin: I probably shouldn’t have said yes to going out to dinner with him. Is that leading him on?

Alex H: I don’t know probably but whatever.

Kristin: Probably but whatever.

Alex H: Well what do you want me to say?

Kristin: I don’t know.

Alex H: Billy get your ass over here. (Her dog Billy is caring her phone in his mouth) I feel like such a loser.

Kristin: Why? You have Billy.

Alex H: You guys are complaining how you hate Valentine’s day but you both have something to do.

Jessica: I just spent a $100.00 on cookie stuff and candles.

Alex H: That’s so cute.

Jessica: How do you spend $100.00 on candles?

Kristin: You do anything like that for me.

Alex H: Candles can be expensive.

Jessica: I’ll do something like that for you next time, k, Kristin? 

Alex H: Jessica, Jason’s calling your phone I’m not even kidding.

Jessica: What?

Alex H: Jason’s calling. Should I get it?

Jessica: No let me answer.

Alex H: I’m just kidding. I’m bored. (She laughs)

Jessica: You stupid bitch. I was so excited.

Alex H: I know. I knew if I said that you’d come out.

CUT TO: Later – Kristin’s House

Stephen comes to pick her up. He has pink roses with him. He knocks on the door.

Stephen: Hello.

Kristin: Oh Stephen.

Stephen: These are for you.

Kristin: Thank you. (They hug)

Stephen: How are you?

Kristin: Good.

Stephen: You look good.

Kristin: So do you. (They get in the car.) Where are we going?

Stephen: Rumari’s.

Kristin: Oh that place is so good.

Stephen: It is.

Kristin: It’s very romantic.

Stephen: Very romantic.

Kristin: What did we do last year for Valentine’s Day?

Stephen: We didn’t do anything.

Kristin: Oh ‘cause we weren’t going out.

Stephen: We were just like in between things.

Kristin: The week before was Winter Formal and that was when I like hated you.

Stephen: Yeah. We had fun at Winter Formal.

Kristin: Are you serious?

Stephen: What did we do after?

Kristin: I don’t know. You were grabbing Lauren’s ass the whole night and like f**king her basically. 

Stephen: Don’t even mention that right now.

CUT TO: Jessica’s House

Courtney: This is gonna be so pretty Jess. He better appreciate it.

Jessica: He won’t. He’s Jason. He doesn’t appreciate anything.

Courtney: If he doesn’t appreciate it I will call him myself and be like “Jason I’m gonna kill you”.

Jessica: Courtney! (She laughs) I’m nervous.

Courtney: Jessica he’s just your boyfriend. He’s just coming over to have dinner with you.

Jessica: K Bye.

Courtney: Bye.

Jessica: Thank you.

Courtney: Have fun. I’m gonna tell him he’d better appreciate it.

Jessica: Ok. Tell him to be really nice.

Courtney: K I will.

Jessica: K I love you.

CUT TO: Rumari’s – Kristin & Stephen’s Date

Stephen: I like San Francisco a lot though. I like all the kids I’ve met up there.

Kristin: You’re glad that you went there?

Stephen: Yeah I’m for sure glad. I’ll probably be always glad I went there. Yeah like there was no way I was sticking around here but I was tripping out a lot over like winter break.

Kristin: Yeah we weren’t friends winter break.

Stephen: We weren’t friends.

Kristin: Remember when I met you at the beach? Like the first time I’d seen you forever. Remember Lo’s party?

Stephen: Yeah. You were gnarly. It worked its’ way out.

Kristin: So have you been dating?

Stephen: Nope.

Kristin: No? Are you lying?

Stephen: (Takes a minute to answer) Nope.

Kristin: That’s good. (The food comes) Holy s**t!

Stephen: Oh!

Kristin: Thank you.

Waiter: You’re welcome.

Stephen: This place is really nice.

Kristin: No kidding.

Stephen: I like this restaurant.

Kristin: I don’t wanna eat it. Yours is so little compared to mine. Do you want a bite? (She gives him a bite) It’s so good. Um, yeah ever time I see you I feel like…like it’s fine you know? It’s not too bad or whatever. You know what I’m trying to say?

Stephen: What?

Kristin: It’s not weird whenever I see you.

Stephen: It could never be weird with you. Whenever I’m around you it’s like I get in that mood.

Kristin: Yeah.

CUT TO: Jessica’s House

Jason is coming over with presents for her. He knocks on the door and she lets him in.

Jason: What’s up dear?

Jessica: Hi hon.

 Jason: Happy Valentine’s.

Jessica: Thank you. (They kiss) I like that jacket a lot.

Jason: Thank you.

Jessica: Do you like the candles?

Jason: You overdid yourself.

Jessica: Huh?

Jason: How long did it take you to do this?

Jessica: Forever. I’m sitting over here on the floor. Here’s a pillow.

Jason: I’ll sit on the couch.

Jessica: No sit with me.

Jason: All I have is chicken dinners.

Jessica: Do you need a fork?

Jason: Damn it.

Jessica: (She laughs) And a knife too.

Jason: Do you want one too?

Jessica: No I’ll eat with my fingers thanks.

CUT TO: Rumari’s

Kristin: This is good.

Stephen: It’s weird but I never thought I’d sitting here with you right now.

Kristin: Yeah.

Stephen: Not even like three years ago but a month ago.

Kristin: It’s funny how we’re so like off and on.

Stephen: Shut up.

Kristin: This is my third Valentine’s Day with you.

Stephen: That’s what I was thinking. Are you my valentine?

CUT TO: Jessica’s House

Jason: Where’s your parentals?

Jessica: My mother is upstairs.

Jason: Oh.

Jessica: Your dad hates me you know? I can tell. 

Jason: He thinks you’re a bad influence on me.

Jessica: How?

Jason: ‘Cause he thinks…I don’t know… I shouldn’t be with you.  You want to go to lunch tomorrow?

Jessica: Don’t talk to me ‘cause I’m just a bad influence.

CUT TO: The Next Day – Jessica’s House

Jessica: Tell me about this dinner.

Kristin: It was fun.

Jessica: Was it awkward like usual?

Kristin: Nuh-uh. Like not at all.

Jessica: Good.

Kristin: Like I’m glad we went out to dinner.

Alex H: Was it like friendly or like “Stephen”.

Jessica: “Oh Stephen”.

Kristin: No it was more…for me it was more friendly.

Jessica: Apparently for him it’s not.

Alex H: You guys are just like really, really, really compatible with each other. And like…yeah.

Kristin: That’s why we like fight so much ‘cause we’re like so…

Jessica: Alike?

Kristin: Yeah. Jess how was dinner last night?

Jessica: Oh like the most awkward thing ever. This was the one year where I was like “Yes I have a boyfriend that I actually like and I’m mellow + it’ll be Valentine’s Day” and then it wasn’t the same as like it used to be. There’s something like different. And he never calls, never wants to hang out…

Kristin: I have no sympathy for you because you let it happen to yourself and I’ve already done the “I’m sorry Jess, like maybe it’s this…” and now I’m like you know what? F**k Jason. He’s a d**k to you. So now I have no sympathy for you.

Alex H: But see after you guys break up in a couple months you’re gonna look back and be like “What the hell was I doing?”

Jessica: I think I’m just gonna have a little talk with him.

Kristin: Like this week you know?

CUT TO: LC’s House

LC: I hate Valentine’s Day.

Kaitlyn: You know when you’re little  and they have those little mailboxes + everybody gets a valentine, it’s fun then. But now it’s like “Who’s your valentine? I don’t have one okay? Rub it in”.

LC: It reminds you if you don’t have someone

Kaitlyn: That you’re alone.

LC: That you don’t have someone.

Kaitlyn: Yeah. Exactly.

LC: And if you do have someone you shouldn’t have to have a holiday to like remind someone that you care about them.

CUT TO: Stephen’s House

He gets ready to go out. Then he gets in his car to go to a candy store.

Man: How can I help you?

Stephen: I need some chocolate.

Man: No kidding.

Stephen: (He takes the chocolate) Thank you. Thanks a lot.

CUT TO: LC’s House

Stephen drives over to LC’s House. He goes to the door with flowers + chocolate for her. Jim sees him. He calls for LC.

Jim: Hey Lauren can you answer the door? I’m just getting out of the shower. (LC puts something down and goes to the door. She sees Stephen. He sticks his tongue out at her.)

LC: Oh my god. (She opens the door and hugs him)

Stephen: (Gives her the flowers) These are for you. (Gives her the chocolate) And these are for you. (He hugs her)

LC: What are you doing here?

Stephen: I came home. Slept for the night. (Hugs her again)

LC; Thank you.

Stephen: I was gonna call you see what you were doing, but I was just like “I won’t call her I’ll just show up”.

LC: Thank you.

Stephen: Uh huh. I got in last night just chilled for the night.

LC: Stephen doesn’t have a valentine? Why didn’t you call me? I would have hung out with you last night, nerd.

Stephen: Guess surprise, surprise.

LC: So you leaving tonight or tomorrow?

Stephen: I’m leaving in an hour tonight.

LC: Are you really?

Stephen: Yeah.

LC: Whatever. Thank you very much. You surprised me. It was sweet.

Stephen: No worries. (They hug good bye. He leaves.)

LC; Sweet.

Kaitlyn: Which one do you want?

LC: I want strawberry.

Kaitlyn: I want strawberry.

LC: He said he was here last night.

Kaitlyn: Weird, I wonder what he did last night.

Jim: He gave you candy too?

LC: Yeah.

Jim: You know what that means?

LC: What?

Jim: I love you.

CUT TO: Jessica’s House

Her cell phone rings. She answers it.

Jessica: Hello? Jason. Why are you being so mean? I’m not always mad at you but if you didn’t lie then I wouldn’t be mad at you all the time. So are you saying that you wanna just be friends now? I agree with you, we got along a lot better when we were just friends and if that’s what you want then maybe we should go back to being just friends. I know, it sucks for me too. I agree. You can just do whatever Jason it doesn’t matter. Okay bye. (She hangs up her phone + goes back inside her house)

CUT TO: A restaurant.

Jason and Cedric are there.

Cedric: No that’s my seat.

Jason: No that sucks.

Cedric: All right. So tell me about the breakup.

Jason: It was just over it dude. We hung out like probably like once or twice a week for like an hour. And like then she was just like bickering about what was wrong with me. She was like how I was acting weird. I was like “Whatever”. I called her and like do it over the phone. I was just like “This isn’t working out”.

Cedric: So how did she react? I thought she was gonna kill herself. Like if you had done it a month ago…

Jason: I would have been…not even. Our relationship was so…already.

Cedric: I think she kinda expected it too.

Jason: Yeah. You wanna cruise? All right I have to go to Jessica’s real quick. I gotta drop off all my s**t.

Cedric: Man, that’s gonna be the most awkward thing ever.

CUT TO: Jessica’s House

She is telling Kristin about her breakup with Jason.

Jessica: I was like “I think that’s better too Jason” blah, blah, blah. And I started crying. And he was like “This sucks for me”. I was like
How the f**k does this suck for you Jason? Like this is what you want, how does this suck for you?” And he was like “It just sucks like that it has to be done over the phone”. And I was like “Jason why do you think I was trying to get you to my house so hard? It wasn’t so we could like cuddle”. I’m like “I was gonna do this”. (Her phone rings) It’s Jason. Should I answer it?

Kristin: Yeah.

Jessica: Hello? Hi. Okay when are you coming over? When are you coming?

Jason: Soon.

Jessica: Okay. Bye. (She hangs up) I don’t understand like the point of even calling me. He just calls me just to like call.

Kristin: He’s a little late you know? (Jason shows up)

Jessica: He’s here. He’s here.

Kristin: Ow Jessica.

Jessica: I’m so nervous.

Kristin: Great now he saw you peeking over you dumbass. (He knocks on the door)

Jessica: Come in. (He comes in.)

Jason: What’s up? (He sits down on the couch)

Kristin: I’m gonna go. But you two guys have fun. Love you.

Jessica: Love you.

Kristin: Jess call me later.

Jessica: Okay. Well how was your day?

Jason: It was good. How was your day?

Jessica: Oh it was just great. What is so funny?

Jason: Nothing.

Jessica: ‘Cause I don’t find this very funny.

Jason: I’m sorry.

Jessica: Would you stop with your stupid little smirk and like…(makes fun of him)

Jason: Okay.

Jessica: Anyways, do you have something to say that you’re not saying?

Jason: Yeah. Sorry for like treating you like s**t pretty much.

Jessica: It’s okay. I deserved it. Why do you think you treated me like s**t?

Jason: I honestly don’t know why.

Jessica: I just don’t understand why like it changed so much.

Jason: There’s no reason.

Jessica: Do you think it’s possibly for us to be friends like before?

Jason: No. (He sighs) I’m gonna get going. (He leaves. Jessica calls Kristin)

Kristin: Jess. (She says something) I’m coming over right now. (Jessica tries to stop crying. Kristin comes back) Hey.

Jessica: That was like the worst conversation I’ve ever had in my life.

Kristin: What happened?

Jessica: I don’t even know why I’m crying right now.

Kristin: Jessica what happened? What happened? Come here. (She hugs Jessica)

Jessica: I don’t even know why I’m crying. He basically just told me that he doesn’t think we’ll ever be friends again. And I’m like the kind of person where I blame everything on myself you know? I don’t look at it like “Oh Jason’s doing this or Jason’s doing that” I look at it like “What if I had done something different?”

Kristin: Jess you can’t blame yourself.

Jessica: But I do anyways.

Kristin: Why Jessica?

Jessica:  It sucks.

Kristin: You can’t blame it on yourself. You can’t at all. It’s not…what did you do? You didn’t do anything wrong.

Jessica: I feel so stupid too because we were together for what like two months? And I’m like so like upset about this, like we were best friends for so long and now it’s just s**t now.

Kristin: You will be friends.

Jessica: This sucks.

Kristin: You will be. Maybe like right now you can’t be friends but you will be. I did this whole thing with Stephen for on and off for two years. You can’t be thinking about it like that.

Jessica: Yeah.

Kristin: I’m sorry.

Jessica: I’ll see you in the morning.

Kristin: K.

Jessica: Thanks for coming over. (She hugs Jessica. Kristin goes to the door. She hugs Jessica again before leaving. Jessica shuts the door behind her. Jessica goes in her room.)
