("Only Way" By Blaise Pascal plays. Caitie pulls up to a stop sign. You can hear breaks squeal and
she's jerked forward. She got rear ended. She's pissed. She gets out of her car to inspect the damage.
There's a fancy black sports car behind her. The driver gets out as well. He's about her age, cute,
preppy and wearing sunglasses.)
Billy: You okay?
Caitie: (She's kneeling down by the back bumper, which is almost touching the ground in the
middle now.) Are you talking before or after I tell my mom that the one day a week she lets me drive her
car I get into an accident.
Billy: (Calm.) Bummer.
Caitie: (She's stressing a lot more.) Yeah, bummer. You crash into someone and all you've got
to say is 'bummer'? I may never be able to drive again because of you and your stupid Bat Mobile or
whatever the heck that thing is. (She stands up and looks disgusted. She looks him in the eye, not easy
since he's about six inches taller than she is. She realizes just how cute he is and they smile at each
other.
Billy: LT Turbo (Okay, the only thing I got was turbo. I read lips for the rest. I don't know
cars. Billy looks back at his car.) I guess it does kinda look like the Bat Mobile. Except the Bat
Mobile's probably cheaper to fix. By the way, I got insurance. Don't worry about it.
Caitie: Um, yeah um, uh so insurance information?
Billy: No problem.
Scene: School.
(Caitie is sitting behind Val in class.)
Caitie: I'm telling ya, this guy was so hot.
Val: Yeah?
Caitie: Yeah. (Bell rings.) Oh. (They gather their stuff and start walking down the hall.) But
of course I looked awful. I was mad at my mom that day so I was just wearing as much makeup and jewelry
as I could just to make her nuts.
Val: So were you sorry when you realized how cute he was that you yelled at him? (They stop at
their lockers, which are right across the hall from the classroom.)
Caitie: Actually, um I would have been except he gave me totally bogus insurance information
and uh the number he wrote down was disconnected.
Val: Oh, no way.
Caitie: Way.
Val: Ugh.
Caitie: Oh, and um I totally forgot to write down his license number so now my mom thinks I
made up the whole thing about being rear ended and really I just backed into a pole or something.
Val: Oh Caitie, that's awful.
Caitie: Yeah, tell me about it. I can't believe he gets to get away with it. (Music: She looks
down the hall and sees him talking with two people. They make eyes contact.)
Billy: Hey! (She turns back to her locker hoping he didn't see her.) It's Caitie, right? I'm
am so glad to see you.
Caitie: (Sarcastic.) Huh, oh yeah and I'm real glad to see you. (Val's watching the whole
thing. She looks like she feels a little out of place.)
Billy: Look, I feel just terrible. The insurance information I gave you was completely out of
date.
Caitie: Yeah, tell me something I don't know?
Billy: You see it, it's my dad's car and he never cleans out the old stuff in the glove
compartment and uh I guess I just gave you the wrong papers.
Caitie: (Skeptically.) Hmm. Yeah, just like you wrote down the wrong phone number? (Caitie
starts walking down the hall. Bill sticks close to her. Val follows a few steps behind them.)
Billy: Oh man. 555-0101, right? (Caitie doesn't respond.) That's my New York number. I've been
doing that a lot lately. It's just, yeah, man, my brain's a little fried from transferring here so
suddenly.
Caitie: (Stops and turns.) You go to school here?
Billy: As of today. (Holds up his transfer papers.) See, I lived with my mom and then my dad
decided I'd be better off here in Maybury.
Caitie: Ugh.
Billy: Yeah. So what do people do around here in their spare time?
Caitie: Well for starters they uh, fix people's cars when they hit them.
Billy: (Cringes.) Okay. Well here's what we do: You meet me after school in the parking lot and
we take it to the body shop. (Holds up a membership card.) What do you say?
Caitie: My car's not here. My mom won't let me drive it anymore.
Billy: Well then you'll take me to talk to her. I'll tell her it was all my fault.
Caitie: (Skeptically.) Really?
Billy: Absolutely. And then maybe afterwards we could go out for a cup of coffee of something,
get to know each other a little better.
Caitie: Uh yeah, maybe.
Billy: Alright then. So I'll meet you in the parking lot.
Caitie: Okay.
Billy: I'll be the one next to the Bat Mobile.
Caitie: (Laughing.) Right.
Billy: See you later. (Starts to walk away.)
Caitie: Okay.
Billy: Right.
(Caitie watches him walk away. Val comes up behind her and watches Billy walk away too.)
Caitie: Okay, the cutest guy that ever set foot in this school. . .
Val: Just asked you out.
Caitie: (Giggles.) I guess that's what they mean by happy accident. (Both laugh.)
[Opening Credits]
Scene: Station office.
(Brooke is sitting at a desk that is loaded with paperwork and other stuff like that. There's stacks
on every inch of the desk.)
Hank: (Comes into the office. He's in a hurry.) Hey Brooke, we really need copies of the new
manual and I gotta get going. Could you run some off? (Sets a binder that's about three inches thick on
top of the already crowded desk.)
Brooke: How many do you need?
Hank: (Already almost out the door.) Twenty. Thanks. Owe you one.
Brooke: Oh, but. . . (Sees he's already left.) Ugh.
Jamie: (Comes in just as Hank leaves.) Hey Brooke, can you change the filter in the water
cooler? (Holds up the old one.) This one's a little nasty. (Sniffs it.)
Brooke: No, but I can teach you.
Jamie: (Doesn't like that idea. Sets the filter down on the manual Hank set down. As he's
leaving.) Maybe next time, okay?
Brooke: (Moves the filter off the manual and looks at it in disgust.) Eww.
(Alex and Mayor Rivera start out walking down the hall and stop just outside the open office door.)
Alex: But Mayor Rivera, you can't be serious.
Mayor Rivera: It's absurd, but it's what the city council voted.
Alex: So any request for funding has to be accompanied by a complete inventory of all of our
equipment?
(Brooke takes the manual off the pile of stuff on the desk and grunts under the weight of it.)
Mayor Rivera: We're talking everything from paperclips to ambulances.
Brooke: (Overhearing their conversation. To herself.) What?
Mayor Rivera: (Con't.) Now I told them it would be incredibly time consuming and labor
intensive.
Alex: We have hardly asked them for anything this year.
Mayor Rivera: I know, I know. But it's their way of riding hard on you guys. I'm sorry Alex.
Alex: Oh, it's okay. (Looks into the office at Brooke. Sounds much more positive that he did
before.) 'Cuz we have a secret weapon. If anybody can come up with a killer inventory it's Brooke. Right
Brooke?
Brooke: Um, actually. . .
Alex: (Doesn't wait for Brooke's answer. Quietly to Mayor Rivera) Listen, the other thing I
need to talk to you about is the new fire department. . .
Brooke: (Sets the manual on another pile, in the process she knocks a whole stack of papers to
the floor. She crosses her arms on the desk and starts banging her head on them.) Ugh.
Scene: Lanier kitchen.
(Caitie is sitting at the counter. Val joins her with a bowl of grapes.)
Caitie: So I'm just, I'm completely giving him a hard time and he's being really nice. He came
and apologized to my mom and everything.
Val: And he had the car fixed?
Caitie: And had the car fixed.
Val: Wow. So?
Caitie: So. . . I guess he's not some con artist like we thought. (Val giggles.) I may actually
have a genuinely nice and totally cute guy on my hands. Is that. . . is that even possible?
Val: Caitie! Yes, of course it's possible.
(Brooke walks by holding a laundry basket.)
Caitie: Oh, I mean he's not my usual type, you know? But. . .
Brooke: (Kind of meanly.) You have a type?
Caitie: (Laughing a little.) Ugh. Give me a break.
Val: (Annoyed.) Brooke, go. (Goes into her room to sort laundry.)
Caitie: I mean he's kind of, kind of a country club kid. You know I just, I get the feeling
he's more used to girls who are more like. . . you kinda. You know?
Val: (Could be kidding, might not be.) You mean like, dumb blondes?
Caitie: (Joking.) Yeah.
Val: (Shortly.) Mm hmm.
Caitie: Anyway, um he's uh, he's invited me to go to this uh, totally cool charity event his
parents are hosting for the museum.
Val: (Surprised.) You, you go out with this guy once and he's already getting you to come meet
his parents?!
Caitie: (Giggling.) Yeah, I know. Yeah, I thought it was a little weird. (Shyly.) But it's
just, it's this big event, you really kind of have to bring someone, you know? (Washer/dryer buzzes.)
Brooke: (Leaves her room with a laundry basket of clothes. Sets it down between Val and Caitie.
Sounds a little annoyed.) Um, I hate to interrupt this episode of Blind Date, but Val, would you mind
getting the clean stuff out of the dryer?
Caitie: (Cuts off whatever Val was going to say.) No you can't, because um you have to come
shopping with me to find something to wear because um, everything closes in an hour, so sorry. (The
apology was to Brooke.)
(Caitie grabs Val's arm and drags her to the door. She barely has time to grab her purse.)
Val: (While being dragged out.) Okay. Brooke, I'm sorry. Would you mind just doing laundry duty
this one time? Major retail emergency going on here. Okay? Is that okay? Thank you.
Brooke: (To herself.) I'll do it. (Sighs. Slightly bitter.) Ask Brooke, Brooke'll do it.
Joanna: (Comes into the kitchen digging through her purse.) Okay honey, I'm off to my
investment meeting. Oh, could you load the dishwasher? And don't forget the pots need to be scrubbed
first. (Kisses Brooke on the cheek.) Thank you. (Joanna leaves. Brooke sighs.)
Scene: Bleachers.
(Caitie is sitting on the stairs leading to the bleacher and Jamie is leaning against a railing
drinking a coke. They're on that little section that's not on the ground, but not on the actual seats.
The little walkway in front of the lowest seat.)
Caitie: Oh, here comes Billy. Okay, act like we're not talking about him, okay?
Billy: (Comes jogging across the track and climbs the stairs so he's on the walkway as well.)
Hey.
Caitie: Hey yourself. Uh, this is my friend Jamie. . .
Billy: (Interrupting.) This is for you.
Caitie: What it is?
Billy: Open it. (He hands her a wide, flat jewelry box.)
Caitie: Okay. (Looks inside. There's some silver chains all bunched up.) Wow. This is amazing.
(Shows Jamie.) Look, it's an earring with a nose ring attached to it.
Jamie: (Unimpressed.) Oh.
Caitie: Oh, I just, I really, I can't accept this.
Billy: No, please. I want you to have it. After what I put you through with your mom. And uh,
I was thinking you could wear it to the museum benefit.
Caitie: You're kidding?
Billy: No. . . I think it'd look totally hot. Look, I gotta run. Please keep it, or at least
think about it.
Caitie: Okay. (Billy leaves. To Jamie. About the jewelry.) So uh, what do you think?
Jamie: It looks expensive.
Caitie: Yeah it does, doesn't it? Oh wow, this couldn't be platinum, could it?
Jamie: (Under his breath.) Oh brother.
Scene: Outside Brooke's school.
(Mark is leaning against a tree and Brooke is walking around and ranting.)
Brooke: I feel like I'm wearing a shirt that says 'dump it here' or something!
Mark: See, you're one of those people.
Brooke: One of what people?
Mark: One of those people that if someone asks you to do something, they don’t have to worry
about it because they know you'll get it done and you'll get it done right.
Brooke: Okay, I don't know what you're talking about.
Mark: You're kinds too efficient for your own good.
Brooke: (Stares at him for a second.) What? (Mark shrugs and takes a bite of his sandwich.
Brooke sighs.)
Scene: Outside Kingsport High School.
(It's on of those covered sidewalks outside the school. It's crowded. Caitie is modeling Billy's gift
for Val.)
Caitie: And it's a clip-on. Which uh, will come in handy in case I need to blow my nose. (Takes
the nose/earring off.)
Val: Huh. And he actually told you he wants you to wear it when you meet his parents.
Caitie: Yeah I know, I was a little confused too. But uh, he said his parents really admire
individuality.
Val: Really?
Caitie: Yeah.
Val: Hmm.
Scene: Station storage room.
(Mark is helping Brooke with the inventory. He's counting boxes of paperclips.)
Mark: Eighty five. Eighty six. Okay this is like the most boring thing I've ever done in my
whole life.
(The alarm goes off.)
Brooke: Can't say I didn't warn you.
(The squad comes rushing past her on their way out of the station. They all say something on their
way out. Brooke and Mark just stare at them in disbelief.)
Hank: Hey Brooke, we just spilled a whole pot of coffee in the rec room. Would you mind? Gotta
run.
Val: Brooke, we're out of paper towels.
Jamie: Hey yo Brooke, could you finish stacking those uh, manuals in the rec room?
Tyler: Brooke, could you move these boxes please?
Brooke: See?
Mark: Ugh. Okay, it's worse than I thought.
Brooke: What am I gonna do?
Mark: I told you before.
Brooke: Yeah right.
Mark: Look, if you don't wanna take inventory for the rest of your life don't be so good at it.
(Takes the clipboard from her.) Let me see this here. (Makes a correction.) Right here. . . we'll be a
little bit less specific. (Picks up a fire extinguisher.) You see this right here? Some people call this
a fire extinguisher. Me? I call it a foam sprayer. (Brooke gives a weak laugh.) Look, if you don't want
the job, don't fit the job description. (Hands the clipboard back to Brooke. Goes back to counting
paperclips.) Eighty seven. Eighty eight.
(There's a shot of the ambulance driving at night.)
Dispatch: Teenage male gone through a glass table. Injury unknown.
Hank: We’re on it.
Scene: Party in someone's backyard.
("Adrenal Eyes" By High Lo Fi plays. The squad comes in with the gurney.)
Hank: Excuse me, excuse me. Uh please, excuse me. Please, thank you.
(Billy is on the ground, unconscious. Behind him there's a table on it's side, the glass is missing.
There's a blonde girl kneeling next to him.)
Hank: (Check his eyes.) What's his name?
Val and Jamie: Billy.
Hank: (Gives them a look, but doesn't question it.) How long's he been out?
Liisa: Not long. He was fine right after he fell. Then, then he just kinda passed out.
Jamie: BP's one ten over sixty eight.
Val: Pulse is fifty six.
Hank: Swab. (We see that there's a cut on Billy's forehead. Val hands him the swab to clean
it.) Billy, can you hear me? There doesn't appear to be more than one cut here above the eye. (To Liisa.)
What happened?
Liisa: We were just. . . leaning against that table and all of a sudden it just gave way. (Val
and Jamie keep shooting her looks.)
Hank: And you were just leaning against it?
Liisa: Well. . . actually. . . we were like. . . kissing. (Val and Jamie look at each other,
probably thinking about Caitie.) I guess it was just too much weight and Billy fell through.
Billy: (Wakes up.) What's up, man? (Tried to push Hank's hand away from his forehead.)
Hank: Hold still my man, it's just a little minor cut we're dealing with.
Billy: Am I gonna need stitches?
Hank: Nah, you'll be fine. But I'd say you're gonna have a pretty nasty hangover.
Billy: (He starts to sit up and Liisa helps him.) I'm sorry, Baby. I guess I just got a little
out of control.
Liisa: (Flirtatious.) You're always out of control. (She kisses him.)
(Jamie bites down to keep from saying something. Val looks upset.)
[Commercial Break]
Scene: Outside Kingsport High School.
(The squad is walking outside the building, under that covered sidewalk around the building. They're
discussing/arguing.)
Val: What? So we can't break the confidentiality code?
Tyler: (Firmly.) No, we can't.
Jamie: Well if we don't tell Caitie what we saw last ni. . . this guy is slime.
Hank: So, so the question is do you ignore the rules to save a friend a lot of heartache?
Jamie: (Angry. Doesn't like this option.) Or do you honor the code and watch someone that you
care about get totally messed up by a jerk.
Tyler: You honor the code. I mean Caitie's not a dummy, she'll find out on her own.
Hank: I agree. Besides, haven't you all ever heard of shooting the messenger? (Hank's beeper
goes off. He checks it.) Hey man, we gotta bounce. (Leaves.)
Tyler: Look, I know she's your friend but she's gotta make her own mistakes. (Leaves.)
(Jamie looks frustrated.)
Val: (Turns to Jamie.) And you know what I don't get? Why is this guy even going out with
Caitie if he has a girlfriend, you know? (Sees Caitie behind Jamie.) Oh, I can't face her. (They both
turn so their back are turned completely to her.)
Jamie: Well it's too late now.
Caitie: (Looking happy.) Hey.
Jamie: Hey, what's up?
Caitie: Well, tonight's the big night. The uh, big museum thing with Billy's parents.
Jamie: Cool.
Val: So have you decided what you're wearing?
Caitie: Uh, well, he said that they really admired individuality and uh, since that happens to
be a specialty of mine. . .
(Val and Jamie give each other pained looks. It's killing them to watch this.)
Scene: The benefit.
(It's at Billy's house. There's classical music playing, waiters in tuxes and everyone is dressed in
formalwear. We can hear guests making small talk in the background. Caitie and Billy enter. She's wearing
the nose/earring. He offers her his arm and she takes it. The camera cuts away.)
Mayor Rivera: Anyway, I just want to thank you for all of your efforts. (Cut back to Billy and
Caitie. He points out his father. He's the guy talking to the mayor. They look over.) Excuse me.
(Billy's dad and Marjorie have almost horrified looks on their faces when they see Caitie and Billy
walking over.)
Billy: Dad. Marjorie. I'd like you to meet Caitie, my new girlfriend.
(His parents don't say anything. Caitie's smile wavers a little.)
Scene: School hallway.
(Val comes running down the stairs trying to catch up to Jamie.)
Val: Oh, Jamie, Jamie wait.
Jamie: Why? What's up Val? (He never slows down. She catches up.)
Val: Okay wait, so okay. We may not be able to tell Caitie about what happened with Billy on
the call, but there's nothing stopping us from helping her figure it out on her own. Right? Right? (Jamie
smiles like Val's on to something.) Yeah.
Scene: Front steps of the school.
(Mission Impossible style music plays. Jamie, Hank and Tyler are sitting on the steps of the school.
Val comes up and gives them all walkie talkies. They get up and follow her.)
Scene: Downtown.
(Mission Impossible style music plays still. There's a shot of Hank walking down the street. He
glances at a store. Seconds later Billy and Liisa leave it. He passes Tyler and The camera starts to
follow him now. Tyler peers around the corner of a building and sees Billy and Liisa walking down the
sidewalk. Billy puts his arm around her waist.)
Tyler: (Into walkie talkie.) Subjects heading south. Approaching Flower Power florist.
(Billy says something to Liisa, but we can't hear it. She replies. It's still unheard. The camera
moves up a little and we see Jamie leaning against a railing. His back is to Billy and Liisa. He looks
over his shoulder so that he can see them.)
Jamie: (Into walkie talkie.) Copy. Subject in sight. (Dials a cell phone.) Flower Power.
(Cut to Caitie and Val leaving a store.)
Caitie: Bizarre. It was like he was happy that his parents thought I was a total weirdo.
Val: Hmm, wow.
Caitie: You know?
(Val's pager beeps. She checks it.)
Val: Oh.
Caitie: Gotta go?
Val: Um, no.
Caitie: Okay so, do. . .
Val: (Interrupting. Starts walking back the way they came. Grabs Caitie's arm.) Actually I'm
thinking we should go this, this way because um, I, I, I was thinking I wanted to show you a store that
was. . . just around the corner here.
Caitie: We just came from here.
Val: I know. Well, I forgot something.
Caitie: (Just goes along with it.) Okay.
Val: Yeah.
(They walk up some stairs and stop short. Billy is kissing Liisa.)
Liisa: See ya. (Leaves.)
(Billy watches her leave. He turns and sees Caitie behind him. His smile fades a little.)
Billy: Hey. Caitie, what's up? (She glares, waiting for an explanation.) That was a, that was
an old friend from junior high. It's been awhile, you know.
Caitie: Yeah, it's uh, nice to see old friends.
Billy: Yeah.
Val: (Drops her pager.) Oops. (Both she and Caitie bend down to get it. Doesn't want Caitie to
get it.) That's alright.
Caitie: (Gets the pager first.) Oh it's alright, I got it. (Reads the pager.) Flower Power.
(Looks at the store behind them. It's Flower Power.) Huh, that's weird. (She looks at Billy. He fidgets
a little. But Caitie's not looking at him. She's looking at Tyler, Hank and Jamie who are walking up
behind him.) Oh, I don't believe this.
Val: Caitie, I'm so sorry.
Billy: (Doesn't see the guys.) I, I can explain.
Caitie: You know Billy, you don't need to explain a thing, okay. Here you go. (Puts the pager
back in Val's hands. To the guys. She's angry.) Um, what are you guys doing?
Jamie: Caitie, we're just trying to help. (Billy sees them now.)
Caitie: This is like some bad cop show or something. Ugh, I can't believe you guys. And you
know what? For your information, um, Billy can come and go as he pleases. Okay, nobody signed a contract
here. (Caitie stalks off.)
Val: Caitie.
Billy: She is so cool.
(Val gives him an angry look. Billy laughs and walks off. Jamie's pissed. He tries to go after Billy.
Jamie looks like he's going to beat the crap out of him. Both Tyler and Hank grab Jamie's shoulders to
restrain him.)
Tyler: (Warning.) Hey.
Hank: Chill Jamie.
Scene: Station common room.
(Brooke sets the box she was carrying on the table. She looks worn out.)
Brooke: Plastic cup. One. (Marks it down on the inventory.) Year acquired?
Alex: (From behind her.) Hey. (Brooke spins around. She's startled. Drops everything in her
hands.) Have you got a minute?
Brooke: Ugh. (Bends down to pick up what she dropped.) Um, sure.
Alex: I got this inventory report that you did for the city. . . I gotta say it's a little
weird. (Sits down across from her. Reading.) Twelve writing implements, unknown origin. Three foam
sprayers?
Brooke: (Sighs.) In know, it's terrible. I'm doing it over. I'm really sorry.
Alex: I just don't get this Brooke, why is this so strange?
Brooke: I just did a bad job, that's all.
Alex: But you never do a bad job of anything. What is this all about?
Brooke: Nothing. (Beat.) I just thought that maybe if I wasn't so good at all the junk everyone
keeps asking me to do, then maybe they'd stop asking. But now I can't stand that it's done wrong so I'm
running around redoing it all just making more work for myself. Great theory, huh? I'm really sorry.
Alex: You're right. People do rely on you a lot because you're so conscientious and everything.
But we certainly don't want to take you for granted. I for one don't know how we'd run this place without
you. So I'll tell ya what, can we make a deal? I will promise to not let you get snowed under again if
you would just give me the old Brooke back.
Brooke: Deal.
Scene: Bleachers.
(Caitie and Jamie are walking on the bleachers and arguing.)
Caitie: Is it, is it so hard for you guys to believe that maybe some cute guy likes me?!
Jamie: Caitie! You caught the guy red handed kissing another girl! Do you really think that he
likes you?!
Caitie: Okay, that was an old girlfriend he was saying goodbye to.
Jamie: Oh come, give me a break! Look, what about your mom's car?
Caitie: That was just some weird mix up or something okay, I'm sure there's an explanation.
Jamie: Well I think maybe you better ask for it.
Caitie: Okay you know what? Maybe I will. Just to prove you and your little secret agent squad
wrong. (Starts walking down the bleachers. Turns back to Jamie.) Okay um, aren't ya coming with me?
Jamie: Why?
Caitie: Because I want a witness.
Jamie: (Shakes his head and looks up.) Whatever. (Follows her.)
Scene: Outside a classroom.
(Caitie is leading Jamie to where Billy is.)
Caitie: Billy said he just had to stay after for some detention thing. It should be over by
now.
Billy: (Off screen, proudly.) See it's a great plan, huh?
Caitie: (Puts a finger to her lips to.) Fly on the wall. (She and Jamie eavesdrop.)
Billy: See, the more I freak 'em out, the quicker they realize that hey, guess what? I don't
belong here and they'll send me back. (Leaves the room and we can seem him now.) And I'm telling you man,
when my folks saw me and Caitie with that nose ring thing I got her, remember? I was as good as on a
plane back to New York. And you know what, dude?
Friend: What?
Billy: That's all that matters.
Caitie: (Looks determined.) Okay, this is war.
Scene: Station common room.
(Brooke walks in. Tyler, Jamie, Hank and Alex are all playing cards. Val is sitting at the counter.)
Brooke: Uh, sorry. Am I late?
Alex: Uh no, not exactly.
Val: Um, okay so, we realize that sometimes in the heat of things around here you get left
holding the bag.
Tyler: Sometimes?
Hank: A lot of the time.
Val: Right. Anyway, we just wanted to let you know how much we really do appreciate everything
you do for us around here. (Hands Brooke a piece of paper.)
Brooke: (Reading.) Gift certificate. Good for one chore of your choice done by me for you, love
Val.
(The guys get up and each hand her one as well.)
Jamie: And there's one there from each of us.
Brooke: Thanks you guys.
Tyler: So whenever you need something, just let us know.
Brooke: Um, actually I'll cash in right now. If you each take a section of the inventory it'll
be done in no time. (Hands them all clipboards.) I've already divided it into sections and sub-sections.
But I need a full count of each one. (They look a little overwhelmed.) Hey, the first rule to successful
administration is delegate, delegate, delegate. (The squad leaves to start taking inventory. Brooke sits
at the table across from Alex and props her feet up on it and puts her hands behind her head. Smiles and
sighs.)
Scene: Billy's house.
(Billy walks in the front door. He hears voices and follows them.)
Billy's Dad: Well, we all do. (He sees his parents sitting on a sofa talking to someone in the
chair in front of it. We can't see who it is.) Ah, Billy. We were just having a lovely chat with your
friend Caitie here. (She turns around to look at him and smirks a little. She waves.) And she's brought
you these. (Holds up the jewelry box and an invoice.) Seems the credit card you gave the auto body shop
to fix her car was a stolen one. So of course it didn't go through. It kind of put Caitie in an awkward
position, don't you think? (Caitie nods.)
Marjorie: She tells us that you gave her this lovely piece of jewelry as well. (Opens up the
jewelry box to show Billy the nose ring/earring) And she's concerned that it was purchased with the same
credit card and that it might cause you some trouble. (Snaps the box shut.)
Billy: Oh wow, I am so sorry. I really am. But I know that's probably not enough. Look, if you
wanna send me back to live with mom, I'd totally understand.
Billy's Dad: I think we have a much better idea. (Hands Billy a brochure.)
Billy: What's this?
Billy's Dad: Branford Military Academy. Actually I've been considering it as a possibility for
your future for quite some time now. And under the circumstances I think this is the perfect moment to
discuss it.
Caitie: I, I really should be going now, this uh, feels like kind of a family moment.
Billy's Dad: I can assure you the repair bill for your car will be taken care of immediately.
Billy has a wonderful stereo system which I'm sure he'll have no trouble selling to pay for it.
