Stock Shot: Outside school. Day.

Scene: A classroom

(Val and Caitie are there.)

Ms. Persinger: Announcing the finalists for "Kiss The Sky" magazine's creative writing contest. (Holds up a copy of the magazine. Shot of Caitie looking bored, then a shot of Val grinning.) Our topic was "The Person Who Has Changed My Life The Most." And the winner will receive one hundred dollars cash and publication in this year's edition of "Kiss The Sky" magazine. The nominees for best writing are (Dramatic pause.) Maureen Connely. (The class claps as each name is read.)

Maureen: (Softly.) Yes!

Caitie: (Leans over to Val.) Naturally. She's a total apple polisher.

Ms. Persinger: Caitie Roth.

Caitie: (Looks surprised.) No way!

Val: You entered the contest?

Caitie: Um, yeah. I didn't say anything in case I bombed out. And since writing's the only thing I'm good at how humiliating would that be?

Ms. Persinger: (Reads off a name I can't begin to spell.)

Val: Well Congratulations.

Caitie: Thank you.

Ms. Persinger: Tim Doherty.

Caitie: Could he worship her any more?

Ms. Persinger: And last but not least, Val Lanier.

Val: (Looks surprised.) I don't believe this.

Ms. Persinger: (In the background.) That concludes our meeting for this week. Thank you so much for participating. I'll announce the winner some time after school next week. I'll see you then.

Caitie: (Angry.) I do. Congratulations. (Gets up and leaves while Ms. Persinger is still talking.)

Val: (Follows her.) Caitie. Caitie. Is something wrong?

Caitie: No. But just if I knew you were entering the contest I never would have bothered. (Walks away and Val follows.)

Val: Why not? You're a way better writer that I am.

Caitie: Like it matters. You'll win because you win everything. You're like the Gwenyth Paltrow of Kingsport.

Val: Oh no, that is not fair.

Caitie: Neither is life, Val. I mean think of it. Who are the judges gonna vote for, huh? The cheerleader or the outcast?

Val: You are not an outcast.

Caitie: I know that, and you know that, but they don't know that. Which means that the EMT kid will be the hero just like always. (Caitie walks away and Val stares after her wishing things were different.)

[Opening Credits]

Scene: Station.

Tyler: (Reading instructions to Hank, who's ironing his pants.) Steam the Mend-A-Rip patch for twenty seconds and torn clothing will be as good as new. (Hank holds up the jumpsuit at the legs are stuck together.) Yeah, if you have one leg. (A digital camera pops into screen and we see Hank through the preview window.

Hank: Right. (A picture is taken and the camera pulls back to show it's Jamie. Tyler laughs.)

Jamie: Lucy and Ethel, fixing pants.

Tyler: What is that? (He and Hank move in for a closer look.)

Jamie: Sweet huh? It's my new little toy.

Hank: Oh, digital. (Takes it a looks at his picture.) So you can wipe out that picture and start over, right?

Tyler: Look it, you don't like getting your picture taken?

Hank: Well I get these little red dots in my eyes. It makes me look creepy.

Jamie: Yeah, well it's not the camera that makes you look creepy Hank.

Mr. McKinnon: (Is pushed to the door in his wheel chair.) There's they are. The Thieves.

Hank: Thieves?

Tyler: I remember you from last week. The acute angina we took in.

Mr. McKinnon: (Wheels towards Tyler, angry.) You also took something for yourself. These are the kids who stole my wallet.

Scene: Caitie's locker.

(Caitie opens her locker. Val walks up to her.)

Val: Caitie.

Caitie: Look, don't even start, okay. I don't know what made me enter that stupid contest in the first place.

Val: Because you're a terrific writer. I know, I've read your stuff.

Caitie: Yeah, well if I'm so great why'd you have to enter the contest too?

Val: Because I never thought you'd enter. You hate contests, you think they're stupid. The Caitie I know doesn't believe in contests.

Caitie: Well maybe we didn't know each other as well as we thought we did. (Slams her locker.) Shouldn't you be someplace winning a bake-off our something?

Val: (looks stunned.) Wow.

Scene: Station.

Alex: No. (He's getting Brooke out of Alex's office. She doesn't want to leave and is backing out.)

Brooke: You won't even notice. . .

Alex: There are serious accusations here. There are lawyers involved. This is private. (Closes the door on her.)

Tyler: (In a louder than normal voice.) It's not true Alex.

Alex: Fine. Then tell me your side of the story.

Jamie: McKinnon's full of it, that's our side of the story.

Alex: Tell me what happened step by step. Hank first (gestures to Tyler and Jamie.) You two wait outside.

Jamie: (Starts walking out.) This isn't good. The cops always separate you to get you to confess.

Alex: Am I a cop? Is there something to confess?

Jamie: Oh no. Well to the second question anyway. (He opens the door and Brooke is standing there. She was obviously eavesdropping. Tyler and Jamie walk by her.)

Brooke: (Guilty.) Oh us, hello. (Alex just closes the door again.)

Alex: So?

Hank: Well it was a pretty straight forward call. McKinnon had one of those I've-Falled-And-I-Can't-Get-Up panic buttons.

(Cut to a flashback. The scene looks darker and more yellow. All flashbacks look like that.)

Scene: McKinnon's house. Flashback.

(There's a little dog who’s in a room with a gate in front of the door to keep him from getting out. He's barking and jumping.)

Hank: (Voice over.) He had chest pains. (Show Jamie guiding the gurney.) Twenty and thready. Resps were like twenty so we did the protocol and we were reevaluating vitals. (Mr. McKinnon is on the floor with a breathing mask over his mouth and nose.)

Tyler: Nitro's kicking in. Pulse is down at one hundred. (Show the dog jumping over the gate.)

Hank: BP's one-sixty over one-twenty eight . (The dog grabs hold of Hank's pants and tears them.) Jamie secure the dog!

Jamie: Secure the dog. . . right. . . uh (grabs some pillows off the couch and waves them in the dogs face. He grabs hold and tugs.) Come on boy, down! Sit! Heal! Anything.

Tyler: (To Hank.) You okay?

Hank: Yeah, all he got was my new pants.

Jamie: (to the dog.) Come on boy.

Hank: He' s still got an arrhythmia with PVC. It's time to load and go. You're going to be fine, sir. You're doing great.

Tyler: (They get ready to lift.) On the count of three. One. Two. Three and up. (They lift. Jamie's still entertaining the dog. They pack up their stuff and get ready to move. Hank is guiding the gurney and Tyler's pushing it.)

Tyler: Okay.

Hank: Let's move. Up ahead, watch the monitor. (Show the wallet falling onto the floor. Hank sees it.) The wallet, Jamie get it. Doorway's tight. Tuck those cords.

Scene: Back in Alex's office.

Alex: So you specifically told Jamie to get the wallet? Did he?

Hank: (Thinks.) I don't know.

Alex: Send Jamie in.

Scene: Lanier kitchen.

(Joanna is making cleaning and shelling peas and Val is talking.)

Val: It was like this huge betrayal. That's how she made it sound, like somehow I was this bad friend just because I was another finalist.

Joanna: Honey, did you tell Caitie you were entering the contest?

Val: No, was I supposed to? Mom, she's my best friends but I didn't think I needed her permission.

Joanna: I-I'm just trying to look at things from her point of view, you know. You've had so many accomplishments, so many feathers in your cap. Maybe she wanted a place where she could excel. A place all her own.

Val: But so am I supposed to pretend I'm not interested in writing because that's her thing?

Joanna: I didn't say that. (Throws a pea a Val.)

Val: Besides, there's a reason why I couldn't tell Caitie I entered the contest.

Joanna: What's that?

Val: Well, it's kinda complicated.

Joanna: Okay. I'm not prying. Honey, try and work this out with Caitie. You two have been best friends for so long. It'd be a shame to lose each other over this, hm?

Stock Shot: Outside station. Day.

Scene: Mr. McKinnon's house. Flashback.

Jamie: (Voice over.) I remember the place smelled like bacon. I was on stretcher and the guys were checking McKinnon's vitals and loading him up.

Hank: Jamie secure the dog!

Jamie: Secure the dog. . . right. . . uh. (Grabs pillows off the couch to wave in the dogs face. Tyler and Hank's conversation is in the background now.)

Tyler: (Background.) You okay?

Hank: (Background. Can't really hear, but you know what he's supposed to say and you can understand if you listen close enough.) Yeah, all he got was my new pants.

Jamie: (To the dog.) Come on boy, down! Sit! Heal! Anything. (Still playing tug with the dog.) Come on pooch. Come on, we're nice people. We're here to help. I even gave mouth to mouth to a dog once and I'm guessing neither of us wants to repeat that experience. Rupert? Is that your name? (We can assume he saw a dog tag.) Yeah, grrr yourself. That's right, I bite back. (The dog lets go a barks at Jamie.) Oh, this is getting old. (Jamie growls and the dog barks at him. Jamie barks back. They bark at each other a little.)

Hank: (Background.) Let's move it. Up ahead, watch the monitor. The wallet, Jamie get it. (He turns at the sound of his name and sees Tyler and Hank leaving.) The doorway's tight. Tuck those cords.

Jamie: Okay, farewell Rupert. (Grabs a bad a supplies and follows Tyler and Hank out. He locks the door before closing it.)

Scene: Alex's office.

Jamie: (Just finished telling his side of the story. Defensive.) I oughta get combat pay, not an interrogation.

Alex: So you didn't see a wallet on the floor?

Jamie: No! All I saw were these canine incisors looking to make a snack outa my arm.

Alex: See, the problem is if you really locked the door behind you then you guys are the only suspects.

Jamie: What do you mean 'really?' 'If I really locked the door?' I should get credit for that. There is no law that says we have to lock up afterward.

Alex: It's funny you should mention the law. You've had trouble with that in the past, haven't you?

Jamie: Oh gee Alex, thanks for reminding me. (He opens the door to leave. Both Brooke and Tyler are waiting outside.) Oh, hey Tyler. Why don't you grab me my camera, Man. (Stared pointedly at Alex.) I gotta get my mug shots taken. (Jamie walks past Tyler and Tyler walks in and closes the door.)

Tyler: (Looks at Alex in disbelief.) You think Jamie took the wallet?

Alex: Just tell me what you saw.

Scene: Mr. McKinnon's house. Flashback.

Tyler: (Voice Over.) What I didn't see was anybody taking a wallet. (Tyler grabs some supplies and he and Hank lift McKinnon onto a gurney.)

Hank: Ready? (Tyler nods.) Let's move. (Start to leave.) Up ahead, watch the monitor. (Show the wallet on the floor.) The wallet. Jamie, get it. Doorway's tight. Tuck those cords. (Jamie sees them leave, grabs a bag, and leaves.)

Scene: Alex's office.

Tyler: Last I saw, the wallet was still on the floor..

Alex: Yeah, but you were busy with the stretcher. If Jamie had scooped it up at the moment you wouldn't have seen.

Tyler: Well, maybe not.

Jamie: (We can assume he was listening. Bursts in.) This is bogus. Come on, what makes McKinnon didn't conveniently lose the wallet himself? I mean maybe he's a scam artist and he's taking us all for the ride! Maybe the dog stole it and spent all the money on Kibbles and Bits!

Brooke: (From the doorway.) Maybe it wasn't a wallet Tyler and Hank saw, but a glasses case or something.

Alex: Brooke, I'm handling this.

Jamie: (Sarcastically.) Oh, lucky for me.

Alex: You were responsible for cleaning the site Jamie, whether you took the wallet or not, this is on you. The digital camera. . .

Jamie: What?!

Alex: How much did that cost?

Jamie: We'll I'll have to call my grandmother because she's the on who sent it to me!

Alex: I couldn't help but wonder.

Jamie: Well why am I the only one you wonder about?! (Leaves.)

Scene: A classroom.

(The word 'detention' is on the board. Jamie and Caitie are whispering to each other.)

Caitie: It's like Val's obsessed you know? She's gotta achieve all the time.

Jamie: Yeah, you usually hate that Type.

Caitie: You know what? Fine. She can have it. I'm dropping out of the contest.

Jamie: Why? You made finalist.

Caitie: Yeah, and she ruined it. Writing was my thing. What I was good at. It was supposed to just be mine and she turned it into a competition.

Jamie: Girls are weird. You never hear a guy say (high pitched voice) 'how could you try out for the team? You knew I wanted to be quarterback.'

Caitie: I never sounded like that in my life.

Jamie: My point is, you've made it this far in the contest, might as well play it out.

Caitie: Yeah, and which way do you think the deck's gonna be stacked, huh? The golden uber-achievers or people like you and me? (Jamie uses body language to agree.) Yeah.

Scene: Alex's office.

Brooke: Alex, I don't think Jamie took the wallet!

Alex: I don't know what to think. We're lucky McKinnon's lawyer is a friend of the program. So far he's been able to keep the old guy calmed down, but if we don't solve this soon, McKinnon has threatened to call in the police.

Brooke: Then it won't even matter whether Jamie stole the wallet or not will it?

Alex: People have a tough enough time trusting teenage EMTs as it is. No wonder. (Alex walks off and Brooke sighs.)

Scene: School hallway.

(Jamie and Caitie are leaving detention. He's reading her essay.)

Jamie: It's good. It's ironic, but it's good. You should stick it out. (Hands it back to her and they both go their separate ways.)

Ms. Persinger: Caitie? (Caitie turn and stops.) You're good friends with Val Lanier, aren't you?

Caitie: Most of the time.

Ms. Persinger: Do you have any idea why she dropped out of the essay competition? (Caitie looks shocked, then pissed.)

Scene: Lanier kitchen.

(Val is pouring hot water into a mug when Caitie walks in. Caitie slams the door.)

Caitie: What kind of stunt is this?

Val: What?

Caitie: You know what I'm taking about. Um. . . Ms. Persinger told me you bailed on the contest.

Val: Look, I decided you were right. It's just a popularity contest.

Caitie: Yeah, I know what this is. You feel sorry for me you think I need your help.

Val: No.

Caitie: No? Okay, then what is it? You don't give up on things.

Val: Look, you made it pretty clear that you did not want me in this competition.

Caitie: Well yeah, of course I didn't want you in it, but now that you're in it, you stay in it.

Val: Hey, I thought we made a deal back in grade school that we would never try to outdo each other.

Caitie: Val, that was two presidents ago. Look, when I win this contest I don't want people saying the only reason I had a shot was cuz you dropped out.

Val: What do you mean 'when you win this contest?'

Caitie: So you back in? (They start staring each other down.)

Val: Yeah, I am.

Caitie: Good.

Val: Good. (Caitie shakes her head, glares and walks off.)

[Commercial Break]

Scene: Lanier kitchen

(Val is already there and Brooke is talking on the phone. Joanna walks in carrying two bags of groceries.)

Val: Hi.

Joanna: Hey, I just saw Caitie's mom at the grocery store. She was buying a cake to celebrate Caitie making finalist.

Val: Why is everybody making such a big deal about this contest? It's not that important.

Joanna: Isn't it? (The camera leaves them and starts to follow Brooke.)

Brooke: (To Nick on the phone.) So Nick, did you get your bike fixed yet? (Pause.) Good. Cuz there's this crotchety old guy who said the squad stole his wallet.

Scene: Ouutside McKinnon's house.

(Brooke and Nick are wheeling their bikes in the front lawn. Brooke keeps talking.)

Brooke: I'm afraid Alex thinks it was Jamie. So I thought (lay their bikes down and keep walking) maybe we could figure out what happened if we ask Mr. McKinnon a few questions.

Nick: Yeah. Revisit the scene of the crime.

Brooke: I'm hoping to prove there wasn't a crime. (The stop walking and see Mr. McKinnon sitting on the front porch and exchange uneasy looks.)

Mr. McKinnon: (See the kids. Gets up and leans on his walker. Grumpy.) What do you want?

Brooke: Sir, I work with the EMS team that treated you last week.

Mr. McKinnon: Don't waste your breath. Either bring me my wallet or talk to my lawyer. (He goes inside.)

Brooke: (Sarcastically to Nick.) Well that was gracious. (We hear Rupert bark and he comes running at them from the back yard. Brooke and Nick turn around and see him.) Whoa! Down boy, down. We are nice people. (Both Brooke and Nick use a picnic table to climb a tree to get away from the dog. The dog jumps on the table, but can't get to them.)

Nick: Back. Back. (It does no good. The dog still has them cornered.) Mr. McKinnon! What a beast.

Brooke: (Looks up at Nick from her spot in the tree.) Like owner, like pet. (She rips a branch off the tree and waves it in the dogs face.) Here boy, look what I got. Okay. . . ready. . . Go get it! (She throws it and the dog runs after it, picks it up and carries it to the back yard. Brooke jumps down in a hurry and starts running to her bike.) Let's go! (Picks up her helmet. Sees Nick is moving slowly.) Nick, hurry!

Nick: (Calmly.) Why bother? (Looks after Rupert and sees him go under a fence.) The killer rat dog has forgotten all about us.

Scene: Station.

(Tyler and Hank are playing darts. Hank throws one and Jamie comes in with a pair of headphones.)

Jamie: (Bitterly. Talking about the headphones.) Look, fourteen bucks at Cost-O-Rama. I can even show you a receipt.

Hank: We're not part of the interrogation, Jamie.

Jamie: Yeah, well I didn't hear you speaking up for me either.

Tyler: We did. You were just gone before you could hear us.

Jamie: Well thank you, but it was wasted breath because Alex still thinks I'm guilty.

Hank: Jamie! (Val walks in looking sad.) Hey, uh you lose your best friend or something?

Val: No, not yet. (Sets her binder down on the counter and takes her essay out.)

Tyler: Anything we can do?

Val: No thanks. It's just I wish this whole stupid contest thing would just go away. I mean I can't drop out and I don't wanna stay in. Even if I win I lose. (Looks at her essay.) I don't even want this anymore. (Crumples it up into a ball and throws it away.)

Tyler: Well maybe Caitie will calm down.

Val: (Sarcastically.) Oh yeah, like that's ever happened. (She walks away.)

Jamie: You know I shoulda entered. I coulda written a great piece about due process: The rights of the accused.

Tyler: (Takes the essay out of the trash.) Jamie, chill. Everything's gonna work out. (Starts reading.)

Jamie: Well that's easy for you to say. Your arrest record is clean. (Sees Tyler reading.) I don't think you should be reading that. (Reads over his shoulder.)

Tyler: Maybe I shouldn't, but I know somebody who should. (Passes it to Jamie so he can get a closer look.)

Jamie: Yeah, I know someone else who should read something someone wrote.

Scene: School.

(Tyler and Jamie are hidden by a corner across from Caitie's locker.)

Tyler: Okay, now. (Jamie comes out carrying a box of something medical. He goes up to Caitie.)

Jamie: Hey, check these out. (Purposely leans against some lockers far enough away from Caitie's so she'd have to leave to see.)

Caitie: What, what are they. (Leaves her locker. Jamie keeps walking and she follows.)

Jamie: Expired IV bags. Drop 'em off a roof and watch 'em splatter. (We see Tyler at her locker switching the essays.)

Caitie: Um Jamie, that's uh really juvenile.

Jamie: (Seriously.) Yeah, but tons of fun. (Caitie shakes her head and starts to go back to her locker. Tyler's still there. Jamie catches her before she can turn and see.) No, no no, come on. Please? I've really got the old water balloon urge, I need a partner in crime.

Caitie: Okay fine, just let me get my stuff. Okay? (Tyler finishes just as she turns around. She passes him and he smiles and nods at her. He nods at Jamie as he walks by.)

Scene: Station. Night.

(Val's asleep using her text book as a pillow. Tyler takes the opportunity to slip Caitie's essay into her binder. He wakes her up. She stares at him for a second and he looks like a deer caught in the headlights.)

Val: What are you doing?

Tyler: Nothing. I just thought I'd bring you some coffee.

Val: Oh great, thank you. (Looks around for it. A little confused.) But. . .

Tyler: As soon as I make it.

Scene: Caitie's room/Val at the station.

(As each person is seen reading the essay, we hear the other person reading it as a Voice Over.)

(Caitie's laying on her bed. She opens up her backpack and finds the essay in her binder.)

Caitie: This isn't mine. (Starts reading.)

Val: (Voice Over as Caitie's reading.) The person's who's changed my life the most is Caitie Roth. In the second grade Caitie and I both liked the same boy, Keith Farber, so much that our teacher sent us to separate corners to make us to stop fighting over him.

(Cut to Val reading.)

Caitie: (Voice Over.) Even though she has seriously geeky tendencies, Val and I have been blood sisters ever since we were little. What's a blood sister? It's someone who doesn't judge me by the way I dress. . . or don't dress. Someone who will always tell me the truth. . . whether I want to hear it or not. Someone who was willing to give up Keith Farber in the second grade to preserve our friendship.

(Cut to Caitie reading.)

Val: (Voice Over.) We'd probably still be in those corners if Caitie hadn't said 'Let's make a deal: I won't chase Keith Farber if you wont.' We shook on it and the very next day we saw Keith by the monkey bars holding hands with Jean Prokov. Oh I was mad. . . furious. But Caitie started laughing so hard I started laughing too. (Caitie's smiling at the memory.)

(Cut to Val reading. She's got a tear running down her cheek.)

Caitie: (Voice Over.) Some people think it's pretty amazing that Val spends so much time after school helping people with bad hearts and things like that. To me it's no surprise, Val's been helping me with my heart all my life.

Stock shot: Outside School. Day.

Scene: Hallway.

(Val comes down some stairs. Caitie is right behind her.)

Caitie: Hey Val, wait up. (Val stops and turns. There's a long pause.)

Val: You coulda told me you were gonna write about me.

Caitie: Me? Okay, what about you? (Sarcastically.) Our friendship is riddled with deceit.

Val: Well it's not really deceit if we just don't say anything about it.

Caitie: My best to Jamie.

Val: Yeah?

Caitie: He and Tyler switched papers on us. Pretty diabolical.

Val: (Laughs.) Yeah, but it worked.

Caitie: But I'm sure we'll find a way to make 'em pay. (Pause) Um. . . listen, whoever wins this contest. . .

Val: Doesn't matter, as far as I'm concerned it's a tie.

Caitie: Deal.

Val: Deal.

Caitie: I really hate that I wanted to win.

Val: Why? Everybody wants to win.

Caitie: Yeah, exactly my point. I'm-I'm not everybody. And yet there was you know, just wanted to win and you know be more. . . more like you.

Val: Wow.

Caitie: Well. . . I mean. . . you know a way hipper, much cooler, less boring you.

Val: (Mock seriousness.) Right.

Caitie: (Continued from previous line.) Of course

Val: Of course. (The stare at each other and laugh. Val's pager goes off.) Oh. (She checks it.) Oh hey, that's Brooke.

Scene: Outside McKinnon's house.

(Jamie climbs out of a car.)

Jamie: I shouldn't be here. If that dog doesn't bit me McKinnon probably will.

(The camera pulls back to show Val getting out of the driver's side.)

Val: Well Brooke seems to think that she's figured something out her. (They walk up the driveway and we can hear Rupert barking. (Brooke is holding a stick over the dog's head and that's what he's barking at. Alex and Nick are watching.)

Brooke: You want it? You want it, Rupert?

Mr. McKinnon: (Comes out of his house angry.) Stop that. Stop teasing my dog.

Alex: We're not teasing him.

Mr. McKinnon: I'm gonna call the police on you.

Brooke: I just wanna see where he take it. (To the dog.) Ready Rupert? Get it! (She throws it and everyone watches the dog. He picks it up and runs.) He's gonna take it into your backyard. I think we should see what he does with it.

Mr. McKinnon: I don't want delinquents nosing around my property.

Alex: (Sounds angry that he called the squad delinquents.) What harm can it do, Mr. McKinnon? Don't you want your wallet back?

(Cut to backyard. Rupert is digging in a hole.)

Brooke: When you toss something for Rupert to catch, you yell 'get it' don't you?

Mr. McKinnon: Most times.

Brooke: Well, that's what Hank said to Jamie. 'Get it.' (Throws another object to get Rupert away from the hole.) Rupert, go get it. (He runs after it and Brooke goes to the hole, picks up the wallet, dusts it off and holds it up.) Only, uh, Rupert's the one who followed orders.

Scene: Station.

Alex: (Picks up a piece of paper with a check attached to it.) McKinnon just sent this over. It's a check for the amount he thought was stolen. He wanted to make up for the trouble that he's caused.

Jamie: I should get accused of stuff more often. We'd be rich. (Takes the check.)

Alex: Listen Jamie, I just want to tell you again how sorry I am.

Jamie: It's okay.

Alex: No, no it not. I should never have suspected you. You've proved yourself to this team

Jamie: Thanks. It was kinda fun being in trouble again. It felt like old times.

Scene: Classroom.

(Shot of Caitie. She and Val grin at each other.)

Ms. Persinger: May I have the envelope please. (She takes it.) And the winner is. . . (Reads the name) Tim Doherty with his essay on, well, me! (He gets up to take the certificate. The class claps. Val and Caitie do so reluctantly.) Congratulations. ("Life Is Just A Rush" by Blaise Pascal starts to play. Caitie and Val leave.)

Caitie: Okay, so how rigged was that?

Val: Hey, you know who Ms. Persinger reminds me of?

Caitie: Who?

Val: Keith Farber. (They both laugh)
