Stock Shot: Ambulance driving in a neighborhood. Day

Scene: In ambulance.

Tyler: Dispatch, did you say spiders? As in eight legs and creepy? Over.

Dispatch Lady: That's a roger one-fifty-six, over. (Ambulance pulls to a stop. Hank and Val get out the front and Tyler climbs out the back. Start unloading.)

Hank: Are you sure they said tarantulas?

Tyler: Yep. Hundreds of 'em.

Hank: (Looks scared, holds back by the ambulance while Val and Tyler rush inside.) Yeah, maybe we should wait for pest control to get here before we go in! (To himself.) Oh, man I don't like spiders. (Runs to catch up. Starts guiding Val and Tyler with the gurney.) You got a step here, watch out.

Scene: Inside the house.

(A woman (Mrs. Langdon) is lying on the floor. The entire place is full of plants. It's like an indoor jungle.)

Mrs. Langdon: (Weakly.) Over here.

Hank: This place is a jungle.

Val: Let's get her off the floor.

Tyler: Hello Ma'am, I'm Tyler with Emergency Medical Services. Ma'am, we're gonna take good care of you. Stand by with the O2. Hank, grab her feet. (Hank and Tyler get into position to lift her.)

Hank: On three.

Tyler: One. Two. Three. (They lift the woman onto the gurney.)

Hank: Check the vitals.

Val: (Places her cheek near the woman's face.) She's having trouble breathing and she's swelling up.

Tyler: Anaphalatic shock. Let's get some epi into her before her throat closes.

Hank: I'll get it. (Val puts a mask over the woman's mouth and nose. Hank gets the syringe ready. Holds it out to Tyler.) Give her the shot Tyler, you've got the upgrade.

Tyler: (Looks like a deer caught in the headlights.) Look uh, you go ahead, I'll get the heart monitor. (Gets up to go get it. There's a big, honkin' spider there. Tyler gets away as quickly as possible.) Whoa!

Hank: What?

Tyler: Spider! (Points. Hank gets up and starts stomping it repeatedly.)

Val: Hank! I think you got it.

Tyler: You're going to be alright Mrs. Langdon.

Mrs. Langdon: They were everywhere.

Val: Where did they come from?

Mrs. Langdon: Cactus exploded, they all started coming out. (Shot of the cactus with a hole in it.)

Hank: (Scared.) Where, where are the rest of them?

Tyler: Lets get her out of here before we have a chance to find out. (They all start packing up everything quickly. They leave. Val closes the door behind them. Shot of the door with the spiders all sitting there.)

[Opening Credits]

Scene: Outside Station.

(The ambulance is backing in. Brooke is leaning against the brick wall between the two garage doors, waiting.)

Val: (Leans out the passenger side of the ambulance.) Hey Brooke, sorry I'm late. Ready to go to your sleepover.

Brooke: Are you kidding me? I've been ready for like over an hour.

Val: (Climbing out of ambulance.) So you have everything you need, toothbrush? Teddy bear?

Brooke: (Embarrassed.) Val!

Val: You have my pager number, right?

Brooke: You've only given it to me a million times.

Val: Don't bite then, let's go.

Hank: (Unloading the ambulance. Something dark and furry moves across the screen. Hank jumps back.) Oh! My. . .

Val: What's wrong?

Tyler: Was it a spider?

Hank: No, it was just a fluff. (Sounds embarrassed.)

Brooke: Did you say spider?

Val: The woman we just treated had an allergic reaction to a spider bite.

Brooke: I hate spiders.

Val: Yeah, but it was just a little spider (holds of two fingers to show it) and Hank killed it.

Hank: It wasn't just a little spider! (To Brooke.) It was a baby tarantula. Do you know how big those suckers get? Like the size of your hand. (Brooke looks scared now.) And there are hundreds of them out there!

Val: (So quiet we can barely hear her.) Hank, would you please stop it.

Brooke: What do you mean 'out there'?

Hank: They escaped from Mrs. Langdon's house up in Browning Road. Who knows where they are now.

Stock Shot: Outside Brooke's Friend's house. Night.

Scene: Brooke's Friend's house.

(Brooke and three friends, plus Barb. Music: "Love Is Unpredictable" By BB Mak.)

Brooke: (Barb is drawing a tattoo on her arm. It's a butterfly.) Wow, that looks so cool Barb.

Michelle: Your Mom is like so totally gonna freak when she sees you got a tattoo.

Barb: Ah, it's just a hennama shell. It only lasts for a couple of weeks. Hmm, done. (Phone rings.) Hang on, I'll be right back. (Goes into another room.)

Jennifer: Amy, you are so lucky your mom works nights.

Brooke: Yeah, your sister is pretty cool to hang out with.

Michelle: I wonder if she can do a rainbow.

Jennifer: I want something that'll give my mom a migraine.

Amy: Yeah! Like a snake!

Jennifer: A snake wrapped around a dagger.

Brooke: Ewww.

Barb: (Comes back into the room.) Amy. Amy! (Amy turns.) That was Karen. Her car got stolen. She's stranded at the mall and some creepy guys are staring at her. I've gotta go and wait with her for the police, but I'm gonna get Mrs. Binder to come sit with you guys.

Amy: Barb, come on. We're twelve years old, we don't need a baby-sitter. How long are you gonna be gone? Like an hour?

Barb: Mom will kill me if I leave you guys alone.

Amy: Hey, Karen needs you now, right?. I'll phone Mrs. Binder. I'll tell her to come right over. I promise.

Barb: Okay. But if you need me call me on my cell phone. Keep the door locked and don't open it to anyone but Mrs. Binder. I'll be back as soon as I can. Bye guys. (Hurries away.)

Amy: (Nods.) Too bad, Mrs. Binder's not home. (Dial tone is heard.) I think it's scary movie time. (Holds up the movie.) Eight Legs Of Death.

(Jennifer and Michelle slap hands. Brooke sighs.)

Stock Shot: Outside station. Night.

Scene: Station.

(Val and Tyler are sitting in semi-darkness filling out paperwork.)

Val: It's hard to believe that so many spiders could come out of that one little cactus.

Tyler: Yeah, who knew an ugly plant could be so dangerous.

Val: Tyler. (beat) How come you didn't want to give Mrs. Langdon the injection?

Tyler: Hank already had the needle in his hand, he was on it.

Val: But it was your first time running the call. I would have thought you'd have wanted to do it.

Tyler: (Annoyed.) Look, Val, Hank had it. (Beat.) No big deal. (Beat.) I'll get the next one.

Scene: Amy's living room.

(The girls are watching the movie and eating popcorn.)

Jennifer: (To the TV) No, don't go in! That babies hatched!

Michelle: She went in.

Brooke: (Covering her eyes.) I hate spiders, I can't watch.

(Shots of everyone cringing.)

All: Eww.

Brooke: (Eyes still covered.) What happened?

Jennifer: It's the mother spider. (Shot of the spider crawling up someone on the TV.)

Michelle: She's crawling up her back. (Brooke uncovers her eyes.)

Brooke: (Quietly.) Ew. (We see Amy slowly dropping a piece of popcorn down the back of Brooke's shirt. Brooke screams and overturns a bowl of popcorn.)

Amy: (Laughing.) Relax, it's just popcorn.

Brooke: (There's a loud crash outside. Everyone turns and looks scared.) What, what was that?

Michelle: There's something outside.

Jennifer: Amy, go see what it is.

Amy: Why do I have to go?

Jennifer: 'Cuz it's your house.

Amy: (Sighs and gets up.) It's probably just a raccoon.

Brooke: Big raccoon.

(Amy goes over to the window. Opens the blinds a little. Glances back.)

Someone: Go on.

(Amy turns a corner to the front door. Pulls up the curtain. There's nothing there.

Michelle: What's going on out there? (Amy sighs. Three boys pop up. Amy screams.)

Brooke: Amy! What's wrong?

Amy: (Drops the curtain over the window.) It's the boys! (Lets the in.) What are you doing here?

Nick: Well now we heard you were having a little party so we thought we'd bring you a pizza. (Hands a box over. Amy opens it. There's only four slices left.)

Amy: Where's the rest of it

Geoff: (Burps.) I got a little hungry on the way over.

Nick: Well, we couldn't help but notice that you fine ladies were watching 'Eight Legs Of Death'

Mark: And it is just getting to the best part.

All Three: Please?

Amy: Okay. You can stay and watch the end of the movie but then you gotta go 'cuz my sister's gonna be back soon. (Boys come in and close the door.)

Scene: Station common room.

(Tyler is in the room by himself. He's practicing CPR on a cucumber.)

Tyler: (To himself.) . . .five, and six, and seven, and eight, and nine, and ten, and eleven, and twelve, and thirteen, and fourteen, and fifteen. Stop compressions. We need epi, stat. (holds up a needle.)

Val: (Coming from behind.) Your patient looks a little green.

Tyler: Uh, I was just. . .

Val: Practicing.

Tyler: You must think I am a total loser.

Val: Why would I ever think that?

Tyler: Because I couldn't give an injection. What if I gave somebody the wrong drug. You know, what if I gave somebody too much. I mean there's so many little things that could go wrong.

Val: Tyler, it's perfectly normal to be nervous. Running a call is a very big responsibility.

Tyler: And what if I don't have what it takes to be an EMT intermediate? (Val Laughs a little.) I mean, maybe I'm not ready.

Val: Tyler, you aced the test. You're ready.

Tyler: I just don't wanna let anybody down.

Val: And you won't.

Scene: Amy's living room.

(They're still watching the movie.)

Mark: (To Amy, very quietly.) Get Brooke. (She nods.) Hey Brooke, where did you say they found all those tarantulas?

Brooke: Some woman's house up on Browning Road.

Mark: Browning Road, that's just a couple of blocks from here, isn't it? I bet they're on their way over here right now.

Jennifer: (Throws a handful of popcorn at him.) Zip it, Mark!

Geoff: Hey, I hear that if a tarantula bites you, your body starts twitching (He twitches.), and twitching, until you're dead.

Nick: Actually a tarantula bite wouldn't kill you, probably just make you sick.

Mark: Well unless you got bit by a whole bunch of them, that'd kill ya.

Michelle: That is so not true, is it Nick?

Nick: Well, I guess if you were bitten several times and had a lot venom in your system, then. . .

Brooke: Venom?

Nick: Well, all spiders carry venom, but if you were allergic to it and couldn't get to the hospital in time, yeah, I guess you could die.

Mark: Gee Brooke, you better hope they caught 'em all. (Brooke gets up and leaves.)

Scene: Station common room.

(Tyler, Val and Hank are all there, sitting on various furniture.)

Val: (Her pager buzzes. She checks.) It's Brooke. (Calls her back.) Hey it's me, what's up? (The camera cuts to whoever is talking during this part. If Val, Hank or Tyler are speaking it's at the station, anyone else is at Amy's house)

Brooke: (Panicked.) Those tarantulas are only two blocks away from here, what if they get into the house? (Continues, but we can't understand her.)

Val: Brooke, slow down.

Brooke: Hank thought he saw one at the station. He wouldn't have freaked if it wasn't possible. They could be anywhere and you didn't tell me they were poisonous. . .

Val: Brooke, calm down.

Brooke: . . .Twitching, and foaming. If they bite us we could die!

Val: You're not going to die.

Brooke: Well, what if. . . .(She screams and drops the phone.)

Val: (worried.) Brooke? (The guys look over.) Hello, Brooke? (Dial tone.)

Tyler: What's wrong?

Val: (Dialing.) Brooke screamed and then the line went dead. And now it's busy. I should go over there and make sure she's alright.

Hank: I wouldn't worry about it, they're probably just goofing around.

(Mark is holding a fake spider up. Everyone, including Brooke, is laughing.)

Brooke: I screamed so hard my throat hurt!

Val: (Busy signal is still heard.) It's still busy.

Tyler: Well, it's only a couple blocks from here, it couldn't hurt to check it out. We need to gas up the ambulance anyways.

Hank: I'll page you guys if we get a call.

Stock Shot: Outside Amy's house. Night.

Scene: Amy's house.

(There's a whole bunch of food out on the counter. The guys are being as gross as possible. Music: "Gotta Get Movin'" by First Love.)

Michelle: You are so gross.

Brooke: You're gonna put marshmallow cream on top of peanut butter and jelly?

Nick: Hey, don't knock it till you've tried it! Okay, now we add a little chocolate syrup and of course, for texture, who could forget the frosted choco munchers. (Adds to his sandwich as he goes.)

Val: (Rings doorbell and knocks.) Brooke! Brooke, it's me! It's Val! Open up. (Brooke and Amy shoot each other confused looks and go to open the door.) Brooke! Brooke! (Amy opens the door.) Hey.

Brooke: Val, what are you doing here?

Val: What do you mean 'what am I doing here?' You screamed and then the line went dead.

Brooke: Mark had a fake spider. It kinda startled me.

Val: (Comes in farther.) Brooke, I thought this was an emergency.

Brooke: Val, I'm sorry, I thought it was real.

Val: Well you should have called me as soon as you found out it was fake.

Brooke: Well I didn't know you were going to come over here.

Val: What did you think I was gonna do. You called me in a panic, you were screaming!

Brooke: Val, you know how much I hate spiders and those tarantulas are out there and we were watching 'Eight Legs of Death.' (Tyler enters.) I guess I kinda got a little carried away.

Val: That is no excuse! What are you guys doing here alone? Where's Barb?

Amy: Well, she had to go help a friend. She should be back any minute.

Val: (Points a finger at the boys like she's just realizing they're there.) And what are you guys doing here?

Nick: Hey, we just wanted to watch the movie. And we brought over a pizza. And we're leaving soon.

Val: No no, you're leaving now. (Turns to the girls.) You guys should have never, ever let them in here. (Sees the guys are still there. Yelling. Pissed off Val.) Did you hear me?! Out! Now! (The guys get up and leave.) Brooke, I'm really disappointed in you. I thought you were much more mature than this. (Tyler's beeper goes off.)

Tyler: It's Hank, let's go. (They start to leave.)

Brooke: Val.

Val: No. (Brushes her off.)

[Commercial Break]

Scene: Outside Amy's house.

(We see Val and Tyler leaving. Camera pans down to show the boys hiding in the bushes.)

Mark: Let's go.

Nick: Yeah. (They move closer to the house.)

Scene: In ambulance.

(They're on the way to the call. Tyler is driving.)

Val: I can't believe she did that.

Tyler: Val, she said she was sorry, just cut the kid some slack.

Val: I guess I'm just not used to seeing her act like this. You know she's usually so responsible.

Tyler: Well she can't be perfect all the time. I mean it's hard, you know, when people have such high expectations of you. It's a lot to live up to.

Val: You don't wanna let anybody down.

Tyler: Yeah. (Tone is more playful now.) You know you're pretty smart for a cheerleader.

Val: Hey! (Hits him lightly on the arm. He laughs. The ambulance pulls up at the station where Hank's waiting.)

Tyler: What's up? (Through the open window.)

Hank: We just got an injury over on factory row, adult male got his hand caught in some kind of machinery. (Hits the side of the door where the window would be.) Lets do it! (Runs to get into the ambulance.)

Tyler: Are you in?

Hank: Go, go, go! (Drive off.)

Scene: Amy's house.

Boys are back in. Looks like they're playing poker for candy. Music: "I Will" by Lauren Taylor

Nick: Well it looks like I win again. (Everyone else throws down their cards.)

Amy: You cheat!

Nick: No I do not!

Amy: Check his pockets. (Phone rings and she gets up to answer it.)

Brooke: Cheater!

Nick: See. (Assuming that off camera he emptied out his pockets.)

Amy: (Into the phone.) Hello? Barb, hi! (To the rest of the group.) Quiet you guys, it's my sister. (Into the phone.) Yeah, we're fine. Mrs. Binder? She's here, she's in the bathroom. What are you gonna be home? Oh, alright. No Barb, we're fine. Don't worry about us. Okay, alright, bye.

Brooke: Is she on her way home?

Amy: No, they're still waiting for the police. She said she'd probably be another hour.

Brooke: If it's gonna be that long, maybe we should call Mrs. Binder.

Amy: If we do, the party's over. And I'm still having a good time.

Mark: Cool. Deal 'em up.

Scene: The factory/workshop.

(We see Val, Hank and Tyler enter. We hear someone off screen groaning in pain.)

Hank: He's over there.

Val: Excuse me, excuse me. (We see the man on the ground. His hand is wrapped in a towel. The blood has soaked through.)

Other Worker: Come on Joe, hang in there buddy. (Tyler guides him out of the way. And takes his place.)

Tyler: (Unwraps the hand.) Let's get the O2 going. (Hank sets it up and places a mask over the guys face. Val takes blood pressure.)

Val: BP's borderline, one hundred over sixty.

Hank: Breathing's shallow.

Tyler: Multiple fractures. We're going to have to dress and elevate.

Scene: Amy's house.

(Brooke is trying to shuffle the cards. Music: "She's Not The One" by Lauren Taylor.)

Nick: (Taking the cards.) That's not how you do it. Here, let me show ya.

Mark: (We see him taking a handful of something. Then a shot of Amy taking a bite of pizza.) Guys, I think I'm gonna sneeze. Ahh-choo. (Holds out his hands, the marshmallow goo is all over them. Starts licking it off. Everyone is laughing.)

Nick: Oh, ugh Geoff.

Michelle: That's so disgusting. (We see Amy laughing, then her face changes and she starts coughing.)

Brooke: Amy, are you okay. (She keeps coughing. Trying to breathe. She grabs onto Mark's arm, he starts whacking her on the back.)

Nick: Don't do that. (Amy's still having trouble breathing. She looks scared now.)

Brooke: You guys, I don't think she can breathe.

Michelle: What do we do?

Brooke: I'll page Val. (Gets up.)

Scene: Workshop.

(Tyler's bandaging the guy's hand. He's still in pain.)

Val: (Her pager goes off.) It's Brooke.

Hank: Hang in there Sir, just take it easy. We gotta give him something for the pain. Call the hospital and get clearance.

Val: Right. (into radio.) This is unit one-five-six.

Scene: Amy's living room.

(Amy's on the floor and everyone else is around her.)

Jennifer: Make her throw up!

Mark: What do you want me to do, Jen? Stick my finders down her throat?

Geoff: Somebody do something!

Nick: I'll try the Heimlich Maneuver. Here, up you go. (Lifts a limp Amy to her feet.)

Scene: Workshop.

Val: Sir, please try and lie still.

Hank: Hang in there, Sir. This should help with the pain. Sterile wipe. (Tyler rips one open.

Scene: Amy's house.

Jennifer: Are you sure you're doing it right?

Nick: Yes. (Amy is clutching her throat.)

Brooke: You have to press harder, Nick.

Nick: I'm trying not to hurt her.

Scene: Workshop.

(Hank gets the needle ready. Swabs the guy's arm.)

Tyler: I'll do it. (Hank nods and give the needle to Tyler.)

Val: You're gonna be okay Sir.

Scene: Amy's house.

(Nick is still doing the Heimlich.)

Michelle: (The food comes out of Amy' throat.) You got it!

Jennifer: Alright! (Amy falls on the floor.)

Brooke: Okay give her some room. Amy! Amy! Someone call 9-1-1, she isn't breathing. (Starts giving mouth to mouth.)

Scene: Workshop.

Hank: We're going to help you up now, Sir. Are you ready? Now.

Tyler: Let's go. (They help him up and put him on a gurney. There are other paramedics present. They wheel him off. Tyler follows to update them.) So far he's stable. We had to give him something for the pain. ER's in the loop, they've got X-ray standing by.

Scene: Ambulance.

(Hank is driving now.)

Val: (Glancing back at Tyler.) Well, you did it. Congratulations.

Hank: Yeah, you came through when it counted.

Tyler: Thanks. I learn from the best.

Dispatch Lady: Vehicle one fifty six, call. Over.

Hank: (Picks up radio.) This is one-five- six. Over.

Dispatch Lady: We have a twelve year old girl in respiratory arrest at 71 Horton Road. Can you respond? Over.

Val: (Scared.) That's where Brooke is. What if it's her?

Hank: This is vehicle one-five-six en route to 71 Horton Road. ETA four minutes.

Val: She paged me when we were working on the accident and I didn't call her back. I couldn't.

Tyler: Val, it'll be okay. We're almost there.

Scene: Amy's living room.

(Brooke is giving Amy mouth to mouth.)

Brooke: Come on Amy, breathe. (Gives her another breath. She starts gasping and tries to sit up.) Amy! Okay, she's breathing. Help me get her on her side.

Val: (Entering with Hank and Tyler.) Brooke! Are you okay?

Brooke: Yeah, I'm fine.

Hank: (Puts a mask over Amy's mouth and nose.) What happened here?

Jennifer: Amy started choking and then she couldn't breathe and she passed out.

Nick: But then Brooke jumped right in there and gave her mouth to mouth. She saved her life.

Brooke: Yeah, well, Nick helped too. He gave her the Heimlich Maneuver and got the food out of her throat.

Val: Is she gonna be okay?

Hank: Yeah, I think she's gonna be alright but we still need to take her to the hospital.

Stock Shot: Outside station. Night.

Scene: Room at the station. Rec room.

(Brooke is asleep on the couch.)

Brooke: (Val brushes her bangs behind her ear. Brooke wakes up.) Ugh. (Pushes Val's arm away.)

Val: What?

Brooke: I thought you were a tarantula.

Val: Oh, I wouldn't worry about those anymore, pest control came and sprayed the whole neighborhood so they're probably all gone by now.

Brooke: Val? I'm sorry. I really messed up, huh?

Val: Oh yeah, but I guess I can cut you some slack as long as you never do it again.

Brooke: Don't worry, once is more than enough. Did you check on Amy?

Val: Yeah, I called the hospital and they said that her mom came and took her home. She's gonna be fine.

Brooke: I was so scared. When you walked through that door, ugh, I'd never been so happy to see anyone in my life. (Val hugs her.)

Val: But you did it. You saved her life. Brooke, I'm sorry I was so hard on you before.

Brooke: That's okay. I'm sorry I paged you over a stupid plastic spider. It's just that, whenever I'm scared you're the first one I call.

Val: Well, I'm glad. Come on, let's go home. (Grabs her arm.) Is that a tattoo? (Brooke grins and Val puts her arm around her shoulders.) Oh, we need to talk.
