	FADE IN:

1 INT. HOLOSUITE/LAS VEGAS LOUNGE - NIGHT

VIC FONTAINE, a handsome, tuxedo-clad singer, is midway
through a saloon song, emblematic of the late fifties
and sixties ("You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves You").
The audience is filled with well-dressed men and women,
all of them looking like they came right out of a 1962
	rat-pack concert.

In the back of the lounge is a bar, where ODO, KIRA,
DOCTOR BASHIR, CHIEF O'BRIEN, DAX and WORF are standing
in their Starfleet uniforms. Everyone seems to
appreciate the music, but Bashir and Dax are the most
	enthusiastic.

Vic finishes the song to a round of applause.

					VIC
Hey, it's been four hundred years
but that little number still works
			for me.

2 ANGLE ON THE SENIOR STAFF

as they join in the applause.

					BASHIR
			Isn't he incredible?

					WORF
			I prefer Klingon Opera.

					BASHIR
				(to the group)
			C'mon, I'll introduce you.

					KIRA
			To a hologram?

					ODO
			Doctor, is this absolutely
			necessary?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 2.

2 CONTINUED:

					BASHIR
				(determined)
Trust me, he's not like any
			hologram you've ever met.

Julian weaves his way past the tables, as the others
	reluctantly fall in behind him.

3 ANGLE ON THE STAGE

	as the group approaches Vic.

					BASHIR
That was brilliant, Vic. Really, terrific.

					VIC
			Thanks, Doc.
				(to the others, proudly)
I know what you're thinking -- he has
pretty sweet pipes for a light bulb.

					DAX
			Light bulb?

					VIC
			That's what I am, right? A
			collection of photons and
			forcefields... you know, your basic
			heuristic, fully interactive hologram.

					O'BRIEN
				(to Bashir, re: Vic)
			He knows he's a hologram?

					BASHIR
Felix designed him that way. He
thought it gave him an attitude that
			was appropriate for the era.

					VIC
If you're going to work Vegas in
the sixties, you better know the
			score. otherwise, you'll look
			like a Clyde.

					KIRA
			A Clyde?

					VIC
			You know, a Harvey.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 3.

3 CONTINUED:

					WORF
			Harvey?

					VIC
				(don't you get it)
A square -- you know what a square
			is, right?

					O'BRIEN
			One side of a cube?

					VIC
				(giving up)
I guess that answers my question.

Vic decides it's best to just get past this moment and
	move on.

					VIC
				(to Bashir, re: the
				group)
			Where are your manners, Julian?
Aren't you going to introduce me
			to your entourage?

					BASHIR
			Oh, sorry... Commanders Dax and
			Worf --
				(indicating)
			-- meet Vic Fontaine.

					VIC
So, how long have you kids been married?

					WORF
				(suspicious)
How did you know we were married?

					VIC
When you sing in as many joints
as I have, you become a student
			of the human heart.
				(looking at O'Brien)
Don't beat yourself up, pallie --
just because you miss your wife,
			doesn't mean you've gone blind.

O'Brien looks at Vic with slightly embarrassed surprise.

					O'BRIEN
			What's that supposed to mean?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 3A.

3 CONTINUED:	(2)

					VIC
It means there's a lot of very
attractive ladies in the room and
it's all right to look at them --
as long as you don't touch.

					O'BRIEN
				(to Bashir)
			He's good.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 4.

3 CONTINUED:	(3)

Vic then focuses his attention on Odo and Kira.

					VIC
And as for you two --

As he studies them, both Odo and Kira shift
	uncomfortably under his gaze.

					ODO
			Yes?

But whatever it is Vic sees, he suddenly decides not
to share it with the others.

					VIC
Nevermind. Forget I brought it up.
				(to Bashir)
So, you have time for another
			song?

					BASHIR
Not really. We've got to --
				(the would-be hipster)
-- split. Catch you later, Vic.

					VIC
You know where to find me.

As they turn to go, Vic calls out --

					VIC
				(an afterthought)
By the way, this is a high-class
joint. That means coat and ties for
the gents, dresses for the ladies.
				(re: their outfits)
You guys look like a trapeze act.

And off Vic's Vegas grin --

4 INT. QUARK'S

The gang comes down the stairs from the Holosuites.
Bashir, holding a isolinear rod, is more than pleased
	with himself.

					O'BRIEN
			C'mon, Julian -- you must've told
			him about Keiko.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 5.

4 CONTINUED:

					BASHIR
			I never said a word.
				(to the others, enthusiastic)
Why don't we meet here tomorrow
			night at twenty-one hundred? We
can listen to Vic's whole set,
then hit the casinos, play a
			little blackjack, roulette...

					DAX
				(speaking for Worf)
			We'll be there.
				(to Worf)
			Right?

					WORF
			I still prefer Klingon Opera.

	Bashir looks to Kira.

					KIRA
Count me out. I'm leaving for
			Bajor in the morning.

					DAX
			Oh, that's right -- I forgot. Say
			hi to Shakaar for me.

The mention of Shakaar gets everyone's attention,
especially Odo's. Kira shoots Dax a look.

					DAX
			Sorry.
				(to the others)
Pretend you didn't hear that. She
doesn't want anyone to know she's
			visiting the First Minister.

					BASHIR
			Business or pleasure?

					KIRA
				(to Dax)
			You see what you started?

Kira walks away from the group. Worf shakes his head
	at his wife.

					DAX
				(sheepish)
			I said I was sorry.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 6.

4 CONTINUED:	(2)

And then they, too, walk away.

5 ANGLE FAVORING ODO

as he watches Kira EXIT the bar. The thought of her
going back to Shakaar leaves him feeling miserable.
But neither Bashir nor O'Brien are aware of his pain.

					BASHIR
				(to O'Brien)
			So, what did you think?

					O'BRIEN
				(dry)
			About what?

					BASHIR
About Vic -- clever, isn't he?

					O'BRIEN
			Too clever.

					BASHIR
				(holding up the
				isolinear rod)
I tell you, Miles, I owe this man.
			If it wasn't for Vic, I wouldn't
			be dating Ensign Walker.

					O'BRIEN
				(skeptical)
			What are you talking about?

					BASHIR
			She turned down three dinner
invitations. I talked to Vic, he
			gave me some... pointers. And
			voila.

					O'BRIEN
Julian, are you telling me you
discussed your love life with a
			hologram?

					BASHIR
Vic's not an ordinary hologram. He
			knows about life, love, women...

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - TEASER 6A.

5 CONTINUED:

					O'BRIEN
				(nodding)
Three things you know nothing about.

					BASHIR
				(taking umbrage)
			Now that's unfair.

					O'BRIEN
Then why are you asking for advice
			from a light bulb?

Bashir and O'Brien walk over to the bar where Bashir
hands the isolinear rod to a Ferengi waiter. After
that, they walk out the door.

6 ANGLE ON ODO'S FACE

pondering his friend's words. Right now, he could use
some advice himself... even if it is from a light bulb.

And off this moment, we:

									FADE OUT.

                         END OF TEASER

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 7.
                            ACT ONE

	FADE IN:

7 INT. SECURITY OFFICE

CLOSE ON QUARK standing in front of Odo's desk.

					QUARK
			I don't know why you're so
surprised -- what did you expect
			was going to happen?

8 NEW ANGLE

to include Odo, brooding at his desk.

					ODO
			I wasn't expecting anything.

	Quark nods.

					QUARK
			I see.
				(a beat)
How long has it been since the
			major and Shakaar broke up?

					ODO
			I don't know... about a year.

					QUARK
			It's been over a year. You've
			had plenty of time to...
				(searching for the right
				words)
... arrange a merger with Kira.
But in all that time, have you
			even tried to open negotiations?
			No.

					ODO
				(half to himself)
			It's not that simple.

					QUARK
Odo, the woman waited a year for
you to make an offer -- any kind
			of an offer.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 8.

8 CONTINUED:

					QUARK (Cont'd)
Face it, you had plenty of
opportunities and you let them all
			slip away!

					ODO
				(irritable)
			Who asked your opinion?

					QUARK
				(incensed)
You did. I came here to talk
about a missing shipment of groat
			clusters. You're the one that
			started talking about the major.

Odo picks up a PADD, pretends to read.

					QUARK
			You want my advice?

					ODO
			No.

					QUARK
				(giving it to him anyway)
Make it easy on both of us and
			forget all about her.

					ODO
Is that the best you can do?

					QUARK
I'd like to see someone do better.

					ODO
			So would I.

					QUARK
			You're not exactly the most
			lovable person in the galaxy.
You're not even the most lovable
guy in this sector. Or on this
station. Or even in this room.
				(a beat)
			You're cold, remote, rigid...
				(suddenly friendly)
			Can I go now?

A chastened Odo nods his head.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 8A.

8 CONTINUED:	(2)

					ODO
			Please do.

Quark turns to go; Odo reaches a decision about

	something.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 9.

 8 CONTINUED:	(3)

					ODO
			Wait.

					QUARK
				(long-suffering)
			Make up your mind.

					ODO
I need a favor from you.
				(this request costs him)
			It's about Doctor Bashir's new
			holosuite program...

And as Quark waits to hear more --

									CUT TO:

9 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

	Establishing.

10 INT. QUARK'S

Just MORN and the late-night crowd. Even Quark looks
tired and ready to pack it in. Bashir ENTERS, makes
a beeline for Quark behind the bar.

					QUARK
			You're up late, doctor.

					BASHIR
			I couldn't sleep. I'm feeling a
			little tense, actually...

					QUARK
I've got just the thing -- one
warp core breach, coming right up.

Quark reaches behind the bar and takes out an ENORMOUS
glass goblet and begins pouring various liquors into
	the "bowl."

					QUARK
Couple of sips of this and you'll
be relaxed for the next three days.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 10.

10 CONTINUED:

					BASHIR
				(reacting to the size
				of the goblet)
			I'm not that tense. I think I'll
pop up to the holosuites for a bit
			and --

					QUARK
				(alarmed)
			The holosuites?

					BASHIR
That's right. If you could just
			hand over my new program...

					QUARK
				(thinking on his feet)
			Sorry, doctor, all the holosuites
			are in use.

					BASHIR
			At this hour?

					QUARK
				(what can I say)
It's been that kind of night.

Bashir doesn't bother to hide his disappointment.

					QUARK
I'm afraid there won't be one
available for the rest of this
			evening.

					BASHIR
			That's unfortunate. Oh, well..

	Bashir turns to leave.

					BASHIR
			... maybe I'll wake up Miles --
see if he wants to play some tongo.

Once Bashir is gone, Quark sighs in relief. Though
Quark has no qualms about lying, he's never enjoyed
lying on someone else's behalf. And as he looks up
	toward the holosuite --

									CUT TO:

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 11.

11 INT. HOLOSUITE/LAS VEGAS LOUNGE - NIGHT

Odo and Vic are seated at a table near the stage.
Nobody else is in the lounge and the chairs have been
turned over onto the tables. Vic has taken his tuxedo
jacket off and hung it over his chair. He's sipping
a drink. Odo looks very uncomfortable; he can't help
feeling that maybe it was a mistake to come here.

					VIC
I remember back in... must've been
			fifty-eight, I was playing the
Sands. One night, Frank and Dean
dropped by and we ended up taking
over one of the blackjack tables.
Between the three of us, we
			must've dropped fifteen big
ones -- and believe me, back then
			that wasn't chump change. So,
Frankie goes over to the pit boss,
			what was his name --

					ODO
				(interrupting)
			Look, Mister Fontaine

					VIC
				(correcting him)
			Vic.

					ODO
			Vic. These are all very
			interesting stories, but I didn't
come here to reminisce about your
			past.
				(a beat)
Yesterday, when my friends and I
were here... you seemed to know
			things.

					VIC
				(modestly)
I've been around the block a
			couple of times.

					ODO
			I mean specific things. For
instance, you knew that Dax and
Worf were married and that the
			chief missed his wife.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 12.

11 CONTINUED:

					VIC
You don't have to be an Einstein
to clue into any of that.

					ODO
At one point, you were going to
			make an observation about Major
			Kira and myself.

					VIC
			I thought about it... but I didn't
want to embarrass anyone -- you
			know, give away any secrets.

Odo zeroes in on this; that's why he's here.

					ODO
			Exactly what "secrets" are you
			talking about?

					VIC
			C'mon -- do I really have to
			connect the dots? You're crazy
			about the broad. But you're
afraid to do anything about it.
			And she... well, you know.

					ODO
			Go on.

					VIC
It's the oldest story in the book.
She thinks of you as a friend.

Odo shakes his head at what he considers a painful
	truth.

					ODO
			I wouldn't call that a secret.

					VIC
But women have been known to
change their minds. You just have
			to give them a reason.

					ODO
You make it sound so easy.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 13.

11 CONTINUED:	(2)

					VIC
That's because it's not that hard.
The girl already likes you. That
			means you're halfway home.

					ODO
She's aware of my feelings toward
			her.
				(a beat)
The truth is she prefers Shakaar.

					VIC
			Who?

					ODO
The First Minister of Bajor. A
leader, a hero, a man with great
			charisma...

					VIC
			I don't care if he's JFK. It's
not the other guy you have to
			worry about -- it's you.

					ODO
			Me?

					VIC
			That's right. For starters --
you've got to lose this whole
			Nanook of the North thing.

					ODO
			I don't understand.

					VIC
I mean, you've got about as much
			personality as an icicle. Cool
is one thing, but you're frozen
			solid.

					ODO
You think I have no emotions?
				(pained)
			Believe me, I do. I just don't
			always show them.

					VIC
			And therein lies the problem.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 13A.

11 CONTINUED:	(3)

Vic gets up and puts on his tuxedo jacket.

					VIC
			Come with me.

					ODO
			Where to?

					VIC
Look, pallie, if you want to win
the girl, we gotta thaw you out
a little bit. Turn up the
heat -- get those "emotions" you
claim to have bubbling to the
			surface.
				(a beat)
It's time to have some fun.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 14.

11 CONTINUED:	(4)

					ODO
What does fun have to do with
			Major Kira?

					VIC
				(wincing)
			I'll pretend I didn't hear that.

Vic looks Odo over with a critical eye.

					VIC
			First, let's lose those threads.
There's nothing like a tuxedo to
make you feel like a million bucks.

					ODO
You mean something like this --

12 ON ODO (OPTICAL)

as he MORPHS himself into a tuxedo. He looks quite
	dapper.

13 WIDER

Vic takes the morph in stride.

					VIC
			Very sharp.
				(gesturing toward the
				stage)
			After you.

	Odo hesitates at that.

					ODO
			I don't sing.

					VIC
Glad to hear it -- I don't need
			the competition.
				(indicating the piano)
What I do need is someone to
handle the black and whites. My
pianist just threw ten sevens in
a row at the craps table and took
off for Reno. So take a seat, my
			friend, the crowd's getting
			restless.

13 CONTINUED:

					ODO
			What crowd?

					VIC
				(pointing)
			That one --

	Odo turns to see --

14 ODO'S POV

of the tables, which are no longer empty, but rather,
filled with a Vegas crowd, restlessly waiting to be
	entertained.

15 ON VIC

	stepping into the spotlight.

					VIC
			Good evening ladies and gentlemen,
			I'm Vic Fontaine.

	The crowd ROARS.

					VIC
Tonight's going to be a gas.
				(pointing at Odo)
			Hit it, Nanook.

16 ANGLE ON ODO

	bewildered, nervous.

					ODO
But I don't play the piano.

					VIC
			Wanna bet?

Odo puts his hands on the keyboard and the piano starts
playing a TUNE ("Come Fly with Me").

Odo immediately takes his hands off the piano, which
	keeps playing without him.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT ONE 16.

16 CONTINUED:

					VIC
			Stay with me, pallie.

					ODO
			You don't need me -- the piano's
			doing all the work.

					VIC
That's not the point. You've got
to sell it. Style, baby, style.
			Make 'em believe.

17 WIDER

As VIC goes into the song, the crowd claps with
	appreciation.

18 CLOSE ON ODO

as he reluctantly puts his hands on the keyboard and
	pretends to play.

19 ANGLE ON THE STAGE

As the song progresses, Vic's performance and the
response of the crowd begins to ease Odo into the
	moment.

19A ANGLE ON VIC

as he gives Odo an "ain't-this-the-life" kinda smile.
Odo manages a half smile in return.

 20 CLOSE ON ODO

And as the song progresses, we can see his confidence
grow. And off that image of Odo, swinging at the
	piano, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT ONE

	FADE IN:

21 INT. HOLOSUITE/VIC'S HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT

Vic's suite reflects his personality. This isn't the
ostentatious, gaudy, glitzy Vegas of the seventies and
eighties, this is the cool, hipster Vegas of the rat-
pack. Clean lines, laid-back, simple elegance and not
much jewelry on a guy, unless his first name is Sammy.

Vic is over by a wet bar, pouring a couple of drinks.
Odo is on a stool, still wearing his tuxedo. Odo is
still enjoying the afterglow of a successful
performance. Vic offers Odo one of the drinks.

					VIC
			Bottoms up.

					ODO
			I don't drink.

					VIC
			Why am I not surprised?
				(re: the drink)
It's not real booze. You're in
			a holosuite, remember?

Odo takes the drink from Vic.

					VIC
So, how'd you like being in the
			spotlight?

					ODO
			It was very bright.

					VIC
That's all you've got to say?

					ODO
The lights kept me from seeing the
			audience. I suppose that's why
			I never felt nervous.

					VIC
Nothing to be nervous about. You
			were too busy having fun.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 18.

21 CONTINUED:

					ODO
			I suppose I was.

Odo can't help smiling at the memory of being onstage.

					ODO
I'm just grateful none of my
			friends saw me.

					VIC
				(shaking his head in
				despair)
There you go, tensing up again.
I mean look at you, standing there
like a statue. The only things
			you're going to attract are
			pigeons.
				(smiling)
Now sit down, relax, and take a
couple of deep breaths. Do that,
and everything you want will come
			to you.

					ODO
				(not buying it)
			Is that all it takes?

					VIC
			Try it.
				(off his hesitation)
			Go on.

A reluctant Odo tries to sit back and relax. Coaching
him along, Vic takes a deep breath and exhales slowly.
Odo does likewise. As soon as he does, the doorbell
	RINGS.

					VIC
			See.

					ODO
			Are you expecting someone?

					VIC
				(playful)
			Let's find out.

Vic goes to the door and OPENS it to REVEAL two
attractive Vegas showgirls dressed for a night on the
town -- sexy, not trashy. GINGER is the blonde,
	MELISSA is the brunette.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 19.

21 CONTINUED:	(2)

					GINGER
			Surprise!

					VIC
				(with mock surprise)
For crying out loud, what are you
			two lovely ladies doing here?

					MELISSA
			You invited us, remember?

					VIC
				(feigning surprise)
Oh, that's right! Come on in.
				(calling out)
			Odo -- we've got company.

Vic is about to make introductions but Ginger
	recognizes Odo immediately.

					GINGER
Look -- it's the piano player.
				(to Odo)
			We saw you perform tonight.
			Melissa thinks you're "adorable."

				MELISSA
Would you mind if I looked at your
			hands?

Odo looks to Vic for support.

					VIC
				(shrugging)
			Show her your hands.

Feeling a bit foolish, Odo holds out his hands like a
	schoolboy.

					MELISSA
I knew it. They're so artistic.

					GINGER
You know, I once played on the
same bill with Liberace. He has
			the sweetest dimples.

					MELISSA
				(her eyes still on Odo)
			Are you classically trained?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 20.

21 CONTINUED:	(3)

					ODO
			Actually...

Odo is about to tell them the truth -- that he can't
really play the piano -- but one look at a disapproving
	Vic changes his mind.

					ODO
			... Vic taught me everything
			I know.

					MELISSA
				(to Vic, re: Odo)
			Is he a good student?

					VIC
			Head of his class.

					MELISSA
				(to Odo)
Maybe I can help you get your
			diploma.

Odo looks over to Vic for guidance; Vic claps his hands
	together.

					VIC
All right, ladies. The night is
young and I have a table waiting
			for us at the Dunes.

					GINGER
				(excited)
			We're going to see Shecky?

					ODO
			Shecky who?

					MELISSA
				(to Vic, re: Odo)
You didn't tell me he had a sense
			of humor.

					GINGER
He plays the piano and he's funny.
			Kinda like Victor Borge.

					ODO
			Who?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 21.

21 CONTINUED:	(4)

					MELISSA
				(deadpan serious)
			I think I'm in love.

	Vic holds open the door.

					VIC
			After you, ladies.

Ginger and Melissa EXIT. Odo turns to Vic.

					ODO
			I don't think --

					VIC
			What are you worried about?
			Melissa's a very nice girl.

					ODO
I'm sure she is. It's just...
			she's not Kira.

Vic sighs, Odo is a tough case.

					VIC
Tell me something, how do you get
			to Carnegie Hall?

					ODO
			I have no idea.

					VIC
			Practice! Practice! Practice!
			Get it?

					ODO
			No.

					VIC
Think of this evening as a trial
run. Trust me, you're going to
			do great.

Vic pats Odo on the back and steers him towards the
door. As he does, Vic looks up, pleading for divine help.

22 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

	Re-establishing.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 22.

23 INT. CAPTAIN'S OFFICE

SISKO is seated at his desk, as Odo ENTERS and hands
	him a PADD.

					ODO
			Here's the report on that
			smuggling ring you requested. Do
you want me to inform the Zevian
			authorities?

					SISKO
I'll let you know in a minute.

Sisko takes the PADD and begins reading it. Odo stands
there patiently watching as Sisko skims over the
report. After a long beat, Odo begins softly HUMMING
a tune ("The Way You Wear Your Hat"). The humming
quickly escalates into SINGING, though Odo's completely
	unaware of what he's doing.

					ODO
				(singing)
... no, no, they can't take that
			away from me.

Sisko slowly looks up at Odo, who continues singing to
	himself.

					ODO
... the way your smile just
			beams --

Odo becomes aware that the captain is staring at
him -- though he's still unaware he was singing.

					ODO
			Yes, captain?

					SISKO
			Don't stop on my account.

					ODO
			Stop what?

					SISKO
			You were singing.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 23.

23 CONTINUED:

					ODO
			I was singing?

					SISKO
				(throwing the lyrics
				back at him)
"No, no, they can't take that away
			from me... "

Odo thinks about for a moment; after a beat, it dawns
	on him.

					ODO
				(surprised at himself)
			You're right. I was singing.

Sisko smiles and returns his attention to his reading.
After a long beat, Odo smiles to himself and starts
	HUMMING again.

24 INT. HABITAT RING CORRIDOR

Dax is waiting by the turbolift. The doors OPEN to
	REVEAL Bashir.

					DAX
			Julian.

Under this, Dax steps into the turbolift.

25 INT. TURBOLIFT

Dax takes a place next to Bashir.

					BASHIR
			Good morning.

					DAX
				(to the computer)
			Ops.
				(to Bashir)
I wonder... should you ask Kira
			about Shakaar or should I?

					BASHIR
You can do the honors, but you'll
have to wait. The major's staying
on Bajor for two more days.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 24.

25 CONTINUED:

					DAX
				(smiling)
She and Shakaar must be having a
			good time.

					BASHIR
			That would be my guess.

After a beat, Dax loses her smile.

					DAX
			Poor Odo.

					BASHIR
Odo? What's he got to do with
			it?

					DAX
			Not a thing.
				(to herself)
			That's the problem.

26 INT. QUARK'S

CLOSE ON Quark as he reaches behind the bar, pulls out
a holosuite program and hands it across the counter
	to --

27 ANGLE ON A GRIM ODO

as Quark slaps the program into his hand.

28 INT. HOLOSUITE/LAS VEGAS LOUNGE - NIGHT

We open in the middle of Vic's act; Odo is at the
	piano, the audience is applauding.

					VIC
-- thank you, thank you for that
			kind applause. Keep clapping.
There's a fly buzzing the room and
one of you is bound to nail him.

VIC turns to Odo, fixing his tie as he gives him a
friendly wink. But Odo has something else on his mind.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 25.

28 CONTINUED:

					VIC
			Why the long face, buddy-boy?

					ODO
You still haven't told me what I'm
supposed to do about Kira and
			Shakaar.

					VIC
			Shakaar? Forget about that
			fink -- I'll bet he doesn't look
half as good in a tux as you do.

					ODO
			What difference does that make?

					VIC
			You've been coming here every
night for a week. Have I steered
			you wrong?

					ODO
			No.

					VIC
			Then trust your Uncle Vic.

Before Odo can say another word, Vic turns back to the
	crowd.

					VIC
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very
			special surprise for you tonight.
If this babe doesn't raise your
			temperature, you'd better check the
			obituary column, because chances
are, you're in it, pallie. Let's
have a nice warm round of applause
			for Miss Lola Chrystal.

Suddenly the house lights go black.

29 NEW ANGLE

As a spotlight cuts through the dark, silhouetting the
shapely back of a sexy, chanteuse. As the MUSIC
FLARES, the singer turns to face the light and we see
her face. Her name might be Lola Chrystal, but her
face is a dead ringer for Kira Nerys. As she launches
into the torchy BALLAD "Fever" --

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 26.

30 ANGLE ON ODO

mesmerized by the sight. Vic steps up beside him.

					VIC
			Remind you of anyone?

31 ANGLE ON LOLA

as she prowls around the stage, seducing the audience
	with her SONG.

32 ON ODO

as he continues playing, but his eyes never leave Lola.
She makes her way across the stage towards him.

33 ON LOLA

singing the rest of the ballad directly to Odo. And
though she is playing to the audience, the way she drapes
herself around Odo, slinking onto his lap, suggests that
there's definitely some chemistry between them.

As the song ends, Lola runs an appreciative palm
over Odo's cheek, then slips away downstage, to take a bow.

34 ANGLE ON VIC

stepping out of the shadows and leaning on the piano
	to talk to Odo.

					VIC
Don't look now, but I think she
			likes you.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT TWO 26A.

35 ON ODO

as he nods, hardly in a mood to argue. And at that
very moment, Lola looks back at Odo and smiles, almost
as if to validate Vic's assertion. And on that charged
	moment, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT TWO

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 27.
                           ACT THREE

	FADE IN:

36 INT. HOLOSUITE/VIC'S HOTEL SUITE - NIGHT

CLOSE ON a bottle of champagne being poured over three
glasses stacked on top of one another to form a kind
	of cascading fountain.

					VIC (O.S.)
			A toast

As three hands each take a glass, WE ADJUST to REVEAL
Odo, Lola and Vic enjoying a nightcap.

					VIC
As Georgie Jessel once said, "To
			whatever makes you happy."

					LOLA
				(looking at Odo)
			My thoughts exactly.

They clink glasses and sip the bubbly. Vic YAWNS and
rubs his fingers through his hair.

					VIC
I think I'll turn in. You two
			lovebirds can live without me,
			I trust?

					LOLA
				(eyes on Odo)
			We'll manage.

	Vic nods, EXITS.

37 ANGLE ON LOLA

as she sips her drink and gives Odo a very friendly
	smile.

					ODO
			You have a beautiful voice.

					LOLA
			And you have beautiful hands.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 28.

37 CONTINUED:

Odo holds up his hands to look at them, surprised to
	hear the same compliment again.

					ODO
			So I've been told.

Lola takes Odo's hands and places them around her body.

					LOLA
			They feel good, too.

Odo and Lola gaze into each other's eyes.

					ODO
			So do you.
				(a beat)
I've been waiting to hold you like
this for as long as I can remember.

					LOLA
			But we just met tonight.

					ODO
I must have a short memory.

					LOLA
				(dry, but appreciative)
			You're funny.

					ODO
			Kind of like Victor Borge?

					LOLA
			How'd you know?

Odo offers only a smile. She smiles back and leans in
to kiss him. He leans in to kiss her. But just as
their lips are about to touch, Odo breaks away.

					ODO
			I can't do this...

					LOLA
			Why not?

					ODO
I'm sorry, it has nothing to do
			with you.
				(calling out)
			Vic!

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 29.

38 ANGLE ON VIC

as he emerges from the next room.

					VIC
			What's wrong?

					ODO
			This isn't working.

					VIC
I thought you two were getting
			along just fine.

					ODO
			Of course we are.
				(to Vic, re: Lola)
You've programmed her to find me
irresistible. If I read her a
			criminal activities report, she'd
			think it was poetry.

					VIC
You want me to reprogram her --
make her play hard to get?

					ODO
				(shaking his head)
			She's nothing like Kira.

					LOLA
			Who's Kira?

					VIC
			Of course she's not Kira -- she's
			a hologram.

					LOLA
				(indignant)
			A what?

					VIC
				(to Lola)
			Sweetheart, please. Stay out of
			this.
				(to Odo)
Do you know how difficult it was
for me to get a holographic image
			of Major Kira?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 29A.

38 CONTINUED:

					VIC (Cont'd)
Lucky for you, Julian used her
image in one of his spy
programs -- though it did take me
an hour to get rid of the Russian
			accent.

					ODO
I appreciate all you've done for
			me.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 30.

38 CONTINUED:	(2)

					ODO (Cont'd)
But I'm afraid it's all been in
vain. I may be a Romeo in the
holosuite, but I know the first time
I see the real Kira, I'm going to
turn back into Nanook of the North.

					VIC
				(trying to stay positive)
At least you're starting to talk
			the talk.

					ODO
I was hoping for a bit more than that.

	Odo turns to leave.

					VIC
Wait a minute. You can't give up now.

					ODO
I'm sorry, but I'm tired of
			discussing my feelings with a
			hologram.

And as Odo walks away, we hold on Vic and Lola.

					LOLA
				(to Vic)
			You're a hologram, too?

39 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

	Re-establishing.

40 INT. PROMENADE

A couple of days later. Odo is walking down the
Promenade when he spots Kira, dressed in civilian
clothes, headed for the holosuites in Quark's. Odo
can't help feeling somewhat embarrassed, as if she
somehow knew what he's been up to while she's been away.

					KIRA
			Hello, Odo.

					ODO
			Major.

					KIRA
			Anything interesting happen while
			I was gone?

					ODO
			Interesting?
				(a strong denial)
No, not at all. Actually, it's
			been rather dull.

					KIRA
			Sorry to hear that.

There's an awkward moment as Odo fumbles for the right
	thing to say.

					ODO
Well, I'd better get back to work.

Odo hurries away. Kira can sense something's wrong but
she has no idea what it could be. After a beat, Kira
	heads into Quark's.

41 INT. HOLOSUITE/CAVES

CLOSE ON Kira meditating, surrounded by burning candles.

					VIC (O.S.)
			Hey, doll-face... are you asleep?

	Kira's eyes bolt open.

42 ANGLE TO REVEAL VIC

	standing near her.

					KIRA
How the hell did you get in here?

					VIC
I'm performing next door for Dax
and Worf. I'm between sets, so
I transferred my matrix from that
holosuite to this one. Now I
			don't have much time --

					KIRA
			What do you want?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 32.

42 CONTINUED:

					VIC
			We have to talk.

					KIRA
			About what?

					VIC
			Odo, what else?

					KIRA
			Odo?

					VIC
C'mon, major. Don't be coy. We
both know he's nuts about you.

					KIRA
			He told you that?

					VIC
			He tells me everything. We've
been spending a lot of time
			together.

Kira can't quite believe what she's hearing.

					KIRA
Odo? Spending time in a holosuite?

					VIC
			And loving it.

					KIRA
I'm sorry... but that's not the
			Odo I know.

					VIC
			Which tells you what?
				(answering his own
				question)
You don't know him as well as you
think you do. He's not the same
			stick-in-the-mud anymore. The cat
			can swing.

					KIRA
Are you sure we're talking about
			the same Odo?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 32A.

42 CONTINUED:	(2)

					VIC
The one and only. But let me tell
you, the only chick he wants to
			swing with is you.

					KIRA
				(not sure she follows
				the lingo)
			I take it that's a good thing.

					VIC
			It's love, baby. Nothing better
			than that.

Kira can't believe she's discussing this with a
	hologram.

					KIRA
How'd you get in here again?

					VIC
			Don't try to change the
subject -- we're talking about you
			and Odo.

					KIRA
			No, that's what you're talking
			about. I'm trying to meditate.

					VIC
			And I don't mean to interrupt --

					KIRA
				(cutting him off)
			Good, then leave.

Vic smiles, coming to a realization.

					VIC
			Talk about your cranky aliens...
you two really are made for each
			other.
				(now making his pitch)
Which is why you've got to come
			to the holosuite tonight.

					KIRA
			What for?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT THREE 33.

42 CONTINUED:	(3)

					VIC
So you and Odo can have dinner
			together.

					KIRA
If Odo wants to have dinner with
me, why doesn't he ask me himself?

					VIC
Because I'm asking you for him.

43 CLOSE ON VIC

as he offers a winning smile.

					VIC
And neither one of us will take
			no for an answer.

44 CLOSE ON KIRA

	intrigued in spite of herself.

					KIRA
			Then I better say yes.

					VIC
				(cool)
			Crazy.

	And on that, we:

									FADE OUT.

                       END OF ACT THREE

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 34.
                           ACT FOUR

	FADE IN:

45 INT. SECURITY OFFICE

Odo sits at his desk, reading a PADD. But whatever
he's reading, it holds no interest for him and after
a beat, he tosses it onto the tabletop.

					VIC'S COM VOICE
			Odo? Can you hear me?

Odo is startled to hear Vic's voice.

					ODO
Vic -- what are you doing on the
			com-line?

					VIC'S COM VOICE
I need to talk to you. I want you
to come to the holosuite tonight.

					ODO
			Why?

					VIC'S COM VOICE
I've done a complete overhaul on
the Lola hologram -- or should I
			say the Kira hologram? I'm
telling you, Odo, you're going to
think she's the real thing. She
walks like Kira, talks like Kira...

					ODO
				(skeptical)
Really? And how did you manage
			to accomplish that?

					VIC'S COM VOICE
I don't have time to explain now.
			I'll see you tonight, nine
			o'clock -- that's twenty-one
			hundred to you.

					ODO
			I know.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 34A.

45 CONTINUED:

					VIC'S COM VOICE
			I'll see you then, pallie.

And before Odo can say another word, Vic ends the
transmission. we hold on a thoughtful Odo as he
	considers Vic's words.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 35-36.

46 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

	Re-establishing.

47 INT. HOLOSUITE/LAS VEGAS LOUNGE - NIGHT

All the tables have been removed except one, which is
beautifully set with flowers, candles, the whole nine
yards. Beside the table is a cart loaded with covered
trays of food. Vic stands between Odo, dressed in his
tux, and Kira Nerys, dressed in an elegant, twenty-
	fourth century Bajoran evening dress.

					VIC
I believe you two know each other.

Odo looks at Kira, and though he believes it's a
hologram, he can't help but gaze upon her with
appreciation. As for Kira, she has no idea that Odo
thinks she's a hologram. She thinks she's here on
their "first date." A date with a very dapper-looking
	Odo.

					ODO
			You look lovely.

					KIRA
			Thank you.
				(smiling)
			So do you.

48 OMITTED

49 ANGLE ON VIC

as he pulls out the chair for Kira.

					VIC
				(to Kira)
			Mademoiselle.

Kira slides into her chair, as Odo sits in his.

					VIC
I'll be your server this evening.
				(with a grin)
I'll try not to spill anything.

Vic lights the candles, pops open a bottle of
	champagne, and pours two glasses.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 37.

 49 CONTINUED:

					VIC
To begin, a little Dom Perignon,
			fifty-five...

Vic turns and takes out two small plates off the cart.

					VIC
			And some oysters Rockefeller...
				(pointing to the cart)
... to be followed by Caesar
			salad, Chateaubriand, and cherries
			jubilee.

Kira looks over the lavishly appointed table.

					KIRA
			It's all very interesting...
				(to Odo)
			... but don't you feel a little
silly being here in the holosuite?

Odo looks over at Vic and nods approvingly; this is
much more like the Kira he knows.

					ODO
			A bit.

49A ANGLE ON KIRA

as she catches the look, but she's not sure what it
	means.

49B ANGLE ON VIC

anxious not to burst anyone's bubble.

					VIC
Let me know when you're ready for
			the salad.

And with that, he quickly retreats into the shadows.

50 ANGLE ON ODO AND KIRA

as they look at each other across the table. There's
a pregnant pause, finally broken by Odo.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 37A.

50 CONTINUED:

					ODO
			Bon appetit.

Kira looks puzzled, unfamiliar with the expression.

					ODO
			It's French. An Earth language.
			It means "enjoy your meal."

					KIRA
I didn't know you spoke French.

					ODO
			I don't. It's something I learned
			from Vic.
				(a beat)
French is the language of love.

Odo gives Kira an easy smile. The fact that he thinks
that Kira is a hologram allows him to feel more at ease
with himself. And with Kira. Kira, who is a little
taken aback by Odo's easy confidence, picks up her
glass of champagne and takes a sip.

					KIRA
			Vic's a fountain of information,
			isn't he?

Odo stares at Kira for a moment. The more he sees of
this "Kira hologram," the more impressed Odo is with
	Vic's programming abilities.

					ODO
He's certainly a man of many
			talents. But we're really not
here to talk about Vic, are we?

					KIRA
				(finishing off the
				champagne)
			I'm certainly not.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 37B.

50A ANOTHER ANGLE

	as Odo refills her glass.

					ODO
			I've always wondered what this
			would be like.

					KIRA
You mean the two of us having
			dinner together?

					ODO
This isn't quite the way I
			pictured it would be.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 38.

50A CONTINUED:

					KIRA
				(agreeing)
			It's a little unusual.

Odo notices that Kira hasn't touched her oysters.

					ODO
			Is something wrong? You haven't
			touched your food.

					KIRA
				(re: the oysters)
It looks delicious, but I'm not
really hungry. The truth is I'm
			a little nervous.

					ODO
				(surprised)
			You're nervous?

					KIRA
			A little.
				(smiling)
I mean it is a first date, right?

					ODO
			Right.
				(a beat)
			There's nothing wrong with being
a little nervous -- as long it
			doesn't get in the way.

					KIRA
			Of what?

					ODO
			Of enjoying yourself.

Kira isn't used to hearing Odo talk this way.

					KIRA
I thought the only thing you
			really enjoyed was your work.

					ODO
			How'd you know that?

					KIRA
				(puzzled)
			You told me yourself.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 38A.

50A CONTINUED:	(2)

					ODO
				(to himself)
			Well done, Vic.

Once again, Kira isn't quite sure what Odo's talking
	about.

					KIRA
			Vic?

					ODO
			Never mind.
				(getting back to the
				conversation)
I do enjoy my work. But I'm
afraid I've used it as an excuse
to avoid the rest of my life.

					KIRA
			I know the feeling.

Off screen, we HEAR Vic launch into "I've Got You Under
	My Skin."

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 39.

51 NEW ANGLE

as Vic SINGS directly to them. It's a lovely song, and
Vic sings it for all it's worth.

52 ON ODO AND KIRA

The lyrics are not lost on either of them.

					KIRA
			Pretty song.

					ODO
			It is, isn't it?

The moment hangs in the air.

					ODO
Are you sure you're not hungry?

					KIRA
			I'm sure.
				(a beat)
So what do we do now?

					ODO
Only one thing we can do...

Odo then stands up and holds out his hand.

					ODO
			Dance with me?

Odo's request is so simple and so direct that Kira
stands up before she realizes what she's doing.

53 ANOTHER ANGLE

as Odo steps away from the table.

					KIRA
I'm not sure I know how to dance
			to this kind of music.

					ODO
			Just stay close.

Odo takes Kira in his arms and they begin to slowly
sway in time to the music.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 40.

54 CLOSER

as they stare into each other's eyes -- not so much
dreamy, but as if they were looking at each other for
the first time, as if they were both trying to grasp
	the shock of the new.

					KIRA
I had no idea you could dance.

					ODO
It's amazing what you can learn
			in a holosuite.

55 ANOTHER ANGLE

	as the song continues.

					KIRA
			I still can't believe we're having
			our first date in here.

Odo is a little thrown by this comment; Vic has
obviously chosen not to make "Kira" aware she's a
	hologram.

					KIRA
			I know you wouldn't feel
comfortable in Quark's, but I know
			one or two out-of-the-way
			restaurants on the station.

Odo doesn't want to burst the hologram's bubble, so to
	speak.

					ODO
				(gentle)
			I don't think that's possible.

					KIRA
Are you embarrassed to be seen
			with me?

					ODO
				(polite)
I meant it would be "difficult"
for you to leave the holosuite.

					KIRA
			Why?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 40A.

55A NEW ANGLE

as the song comes to an end, an uneasy Vic looks over
at Kira and Odo. Vic can see things have taken an
unfortunate turn. As for Odo, he's finding himself in
a corner with no way out.

					ODO
			It's complicated.

					KIRA
			Complicated? To leave the
holosuite? You make it sound like
			I'm a hologram.

					ODO
				(gently)
			Aren't you?

					KIRA
			Is that what you think?

Kira breaks out of his arms. Odo looks to Vic.

					ODO
			Maybe you should tell her.

					VIC
				(a sheepish grin)
There's nothing to tell. I'm good,
pallie, but I'm not that good.
				(a beat)
You've been dancing with the real
			McCoy.

55B CLOSE ON ODO

	As Vic's words sink in.

					ODO
				(shocked, to Vic)
			You tricked me.

					KIRA
				(with an edge)
			And me.

					VIC
Hey, I brought you two lovebirds
			together.
				(to Odo)
That was the whole idea, wasn't it?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FOUR 41-42.

55B CONTINUED:

Odo looks from Vic to Kira -- he doesn't know what to
say. He feels like a total fool.

					ODO
			Nerys... Kira... Major... I...

Odo doesn't know where to begin, how to explain his
feelings to Kira. Instead, Odo storms out of the room.

55C ANOTHER ANGLE

as Kira shoots an accusatory look at Vic.

					VIC
				(anticipating)
			Don't say it.
				(a beat)
			Computer -- end program.

56 NEW ANGLE (OPTICAL)

as the Vegas world disappears, leaving Kira alone in
	the bare holosuite grid.

57 CLOSER ON KIRA

feeling that a very nice evening has taken a very wrong
turn. And off her regret, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT FOUR

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 43.
                           ACT FIVE

	FADE IN:

58 INT. SECURITY OFFICE

Odo is brooding at his desk.

					VIC'S COM VOICE
			Odo? Are you there?

					ODO
I have nothing to say to you.

					VIC'S COM VOICE
Look, I know you think I sold you
			down the river...

					ODO
				(hard)
			You lied to me.

					VIC'S COM VOICE
				(defensive)
It was for your own good. It was
time for you to stop playing
			around with holograms and start
playing around with the real thing.

					ODO
You should've told me it was
			really Kira.

					VIC'S COM VOICE
Would you have shown up if I had?

	Odo's silence speaks volumes.

					VIC'S COM VOICE
I don't hear an answer, pallie.
				(a beat)
If you think about it, there's not
much to be mad about. I saw the
way she looked at you while you
two were dancing. The lady digs
			you. Big time.

The thought of what Kira thinks of him disturbs Odo.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 43A.

58 CONTINUED:

					ODO
She "digs" Shakaar. I can only
imagine what she thinks of me.
				(a beat, embarrassed)
I kept insisting she was a
			hologram...

					VIC'S COM VOICE
			Odo, listen to me --

					ODO
				(cutting him off)
No -- I'm done listening to you.
			Computer, end transmission.

Odo picks up the PADD, determined to take his mind off
his problems. And as he sits at the desk,
	concentrating on his reading --

59 INT. PROMENADE

Kira and Dax walk toward the Replimat.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 44.

59 CONTINUED:

					DAX
Are you going to tell me what's
			wrong?

					KIRA
			Nothing's wrong.
				(a beat)
Have you ever had a moment of pure
clarity? A moment when the truth
seemed to leap up and grab you by
			the throat?

					DAX
I bet this has something to do
			with your visit with Shakaar.

					KIRA
This has nothing to do with
Shakaar. Now tell me -- have you
ever had a moment like that?

					DAX
One or two. Of course, that's
over a span of seven lifetimes.

					KIRA
You've had only two moments of
			clarity in seven lifetimes?

					DAX
Nerys, total clarity is a very
			rare thing.

					KIRA
			I guess so.

					DAX
And when it comes, it's important
that you act on it. Because
			believe me, confusion and doubt
will take over before you know it.

Kira nods at her friend's wisdom.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 45.

60 NEW ANGLE

as Kira sees Odo emerge from the Security Office. Kira
	gets up to leave.

					KIRA
			You're absolutely right.
				(a beat)
			It makes perfect sense...

					DAX
			Don't tell me you're having
			another moment of clarity?

					KIRA
				(smiling)
			That's two in two days.

					DAX
			Amazing.

And as Kira reaches a decision --

61 INT. PROMENADE

Odo is on the move as Kira comes up behind him.

					KIRA
			Odo -- wait.

					ODO
Major, if you don't mind, I'd like
to forget all about the last night.

					KIRA
			I don't think that's a very good
idea. We need to talk about what
			happened.

					ODO
				(still looking for a way
				out)
Very well. We can meet in my
			office in an hour.

					KIRA
				(shaking her head)
			Let's discuss it over dinner.

					ODO
			Dinner?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 46.

61 CONTINUED:

					KIRA
You can pick the restaurant --
			anywhere except a holosuite.

					ODO
What about Shakaar? You think he
			would approve?

					KIRA
I don't care if he approves or
			not. Shakaar and I are
			friends -- that's all. Friends.

That stops Odo in his tracks.

					KIRA
The First Minister wanted me to
update him on the war with the
			Dominion. My visit was strictly
			business.
				(a beat)
So... are we going to have dinner
			together or not?

The chemistry between these two is volatile, and the
rest of this scene is loud and accusatory.

					ODO
And if we do, then what?

					KIRA
I don't know... maybe we could go
			dancing.

					ODO
And after that, I suppose you'll
			expect me to kiss you.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 47.

61 CONTINUED:	(2)

					KIRA
			It's possible.

					ODO
Then who needs dinner? Why don't
I get it over with and kiss you
			right now?

					KIRA
			Why don't you?

Odo takes hold of Kira and gives her a firm, strong
	kiss.

62 NEW ANGLE

as everyone on the Promenade watches Odo and Kira
	kissing.

63 ANGLE ON DAX

her surprise breaks into a smile.

64 ON ODO AND KIRA

as they break off the kiss, Odo holds her by the arms.
Both of them are oblivious to the eyes bearing down
	upon them.

					KIRA
You're right -- who needs dinner?

They kiss again, but this time it's a softer, more
passionate kiss. And as WE PULL BACK, we get the
feeling that this kiss may never end.

65 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

	Re-establishing.

66 INT. HOLOSUITE/LAS VEGAS LOUNGE - NIGHT

Vic is on stage "chatting" with the audience.

66 CONTINUED:

					VIC
... here in Vegas, there's only
one way to make sure you don't
lose any money. The moment you
step off the plane, you walk right
			into the propellers.

The drummer gives Vic a rim-shot as the audience LAUGHS.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 48.

67 ANGLE ON ODO

standing in the back of the room, dressed in his usual
security outfit. He approaches the stage.

					VIC
Odo -- long time, no see.

					ODO
			I've been busy.

					VIC
So I hear. Julian tells me that
you and the major are quite an
			item.

					ODO
For the moment... but who knows
			how long it'll last.

					VIC
That's my Odo -- always ready to
			turn victory into defeat.

Odo smiles at himself, able to take the ribbing.

					ODO
I wanted to say thank you for all
			your help.

					VIC
			Anytime, pallie. Anytime.

A beat as they shake hands.

					VIC
Feel like sitting in on a number?

Odo smiles, but shakes his head.

					ODO
			Some other time.

Vic doesn't push it. Odo turns to leave --

					VIC
Say hi to the major for me.
				(an afterthought)
			Hey, do me a favor?

	Odo looks back at Vic.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "His Way" - REV. 2/20/98 - ACT FIVE 49.

67 CONTINUED:

					VIC
Leave the program running for a
few minutes after you leave. I
			feel like singing.

Odo nods, and then allows himself a small smile:

					ODO
			"Whatever makes you happy."

68 ON VIC

as he starts snapping his fingers and launches into,
	"Come Fly With Me."

69 ON ODO

as he and Vic exchange a look. Odo nods, as if in
agreement with the lyrics of the song. After a long
beat, he turns and EXITS into the shadows.

70 WE STAY ON VIC

swinging away at the song. And on this Vegas moment, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT FIVE
                            THE END
