                            TEASER

	FADE IN:

1 INT. PROMENADE

Open on the first level of a very busy Promenade. TILT UP to
reveal JAKE, standing alone, watching the crowd. He's at his
"usual spot" -- only, he no longer has Nog there beside him.

2 CLOSE ON JAKE

	Staring, lost in thought.

					ODO (O.S.)
			Enjoying the view?

ADJUST TO REVEAL ODO, standing alongside Jake.

					JAKE
				(a bit flustered)
I'm stuck on this new story I'm
working on. Coming here helps me
			focus --

					ODO
				(interrupting)
			No need to explain yourself,
			Mister Sisko.

					JAKE
			I just thought...

Jake stops himself, deciding it's not worth mentioning. But
	Odo won't let it be.

					ODO
			You thought what?

					JAKE
				(slightly embarrassed)
I thought you were going to ask me
			to leave.

					ODO
			Why would I do that?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - TEASER 2.

2 CONTINUED:

					JAKE
You always used to chase me away.

					ODO
				(smiling)
			I never chased you away...
I chased Nog. You just happened to
			be with him.
				(beat)
So, unless you plan on flicking
			sandpeas at the passing throng,
you can stay here as long as you
			want.

					JAKE
				(a touch wistful)
			I don't have any sandpeas.

Odo studies Jake for a beat before concluding:

					ODO
			You miss him, don't you?

					JAKE
				(feigning disinterest)
			Nog? Maybe a little...

					QUARK (O.S.)
			A little?

3 NEW ANGLE

to include QUARK, crossing the bridge toward them.

					QUARK
				(to Odo re: Jake)
There isn't a day goes by that I
			don't see him standing here,
			pining away for that no-good
			nephew of mine.

					JAKE
			I'm not here every day.

					QUARK
No, just four or five times a
week. If you ask me, Nog
should've never gone off to the
Academy. You lost a friend, and
			I lost a good waiter.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - TEASER 3.

3 CONTINUED:

					JAKE
Nog'll be back and he'll be
			wearing a Starfleet uniform. I'm
			proud of what he's doing.

					QUARK
Remember that the next time you
try to play dom-jot by yourself.

Jake can see that he's not going to get any work done
with these two giving him a hard time.

					JAKE
You don't want me hanging around
here? Fine. I'll do my thinking
			someplace else.

Jake walks away; we STAY ON Quark and Odo, watching him go.

					QUARK
Poor kid... I suppose that's what
			you get for having friends.

					ODO
			Meaning what?

					QUARK
Just when you think you can count
on them, they go off and leave you.
			You're better off without
			them.

					ODO
			I imagine that's why you don't
			have any friends.

					QUARK
			Look who's talking.

4 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)
	(STOCK)

	Establishing.

5 INT. HABITAT RING CORRIDOR

A melancholy Jake is headed for his quarters.

6 INT. SISKO'S QUARTERS

	The door opens, Jake ENTERS.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - TEASER 4.

6 CONTINUED:

					JAKE
				(calling out)
			Dad, I'm home.

Jake stops in his tracks in reaction to what he sees
	off screen --

7 JAKE'S POV

of SISKO handing a cup of raktajino to JENNIFER SISKO,
	Jake's long-dead mother.

8 BACK ON JAKE
	shocked.
					JAKE
			Mom?
As Jake tries to make sense of what he sees, we:

									FADE OUT.

	FADE IN:

(NOTE: Episode credits fall over opening scenes)

9 INT. SISKO'S QUARTERS

As before. Jake, Jennifer and Sisko. Jennifer steps
	toward Jake before saying:

					JENNIFER
I'm afraid I'm not your mother, Jake.

Sisko is quick to offer an explanation.

					SISKO
This is the woman I told you about --
the one I met in the parallel universe.

					JAKE
So you are Jennifer Sisko, you're
			just not my mother...

					JENNIFER
			That's right.

Jake still can't take his eyes off her.

					JAKE
			You look exactly like her.

					JENNIFER
			I know.
				(glancing at Sisko)
And I was married to a man who
			looked exactly like your father.
				(smiles)
			It's all a little confusing, isn't
			it?

	Jake smiling.

					JAKE
			More than a little.
				(then, to his Dad)
			Did you tell her?

					SISKO
			Tell her what?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 6.

9 CONTINUED:

					JAKE
				(to Jennifer)
Ever since my dad told me about
you -- I've been wanting to meet
			you.

					JENNIFER
			Well, here I am.

					JAKE
				(pleased)
You even sound like my mother!

					KIRA'S COM VOICE
			Ops to Captain Sisko.

					SISKO
				(now what)
			Go ahead.

					KIRA'S COM VOICE
			Minister Gettor's shuttle has
			docked.

					SISKO
Give me a few minutes. Offer him
			a tour of the station.

					KIRA'S COM VOICE
I already have. His time is
limited and he's anxious to meet
			with the Emissary.

SISKO sighs, seeing he can't put him off.

						SISKO
			I'll be right there.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 7.

9 CONTINUED:	(2)

					JAKE
				(to Jennifer)
			So why are you here?

					JENNIFER
				(slightly embarrassed)
I came to see your father.

Jake is really pleased at that admission.

					JAKE
			Really? That's great.

It's an awkward moment for Sisko; he doesn't want Jake
	leaping to conclusions.

					SISKO
Jennifer came to give me some good
news. The Terrans have won an
			important victory.

					JENNIFER
We've driven the Alliance off the
			space station.

					JAKE
				(realizing the
				importance)
Then the rebels control Terok Nor.

					JENNIFER
				(with an approving
				glance toward Sisko)
I see your father has told you all
			about us.

Sisko, aware of an attraction between Jennifer and
himself, decides to play it down.

					SISKO
I'd better get to this meeting.

					JENNIFER
				(smiling)
I understand. It's not like you
			were expecting me.

					JAKE
				(to Jennifer)
			You're not leaving, are you?

	Jennifer looks at Sisko.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 8.

9 CONTINUED: (3)

					JENNIFER
Is it all right if I visit with
			Jake for awhile?

					SISKO
I don't think Jake would have
			it any other way.

 					JENNIFER
Maybe the three of us could have
			dinner together.

					SISKO
That'll depend on how long my
			meeting lasts.

					JENNIFER
			We'll wait.

Sisko looks over at Jake, who is clearly determined to
	have this dinner take place.

					SISKO
			Okay.

	Then, Sisko EXITS.

10 ANGLE ON JENNIFER AND JAKE

After a little awkward silence, Jake offers:

					JAKE
			Would you like another raktajino?

 					JENNIFER
Thank you. That would be nice.

Jennifer gives Jake her empty cup. As she does, their
hands touch. Jake takes the opportunity to hold onto
	her hand lightly.

					JAKE
			That's amazing.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 9.

10 CONTINUED:

					JENNIFER
			What?

Jake, still holding her hand, studies it intently.

					JAKE
I never thought I'd hold this hand
again... it feels just like my
			mom's.

Jennifer allows Jake the moment. After a long beat,
	Jake reluctantly let's go.

					JAKE
			I'll get you that raktajino.

Jake goes over to the replicator; WE HOLD ON Jennifer
	who stares after him thoughtfully.

11 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL) (STOCK)

	Time cut.

12 INT. OPS

The doors to Sisko's office open, the Bajoran Minister,
flanked by two aides, EXITS. The Minister looks
pleased at the outcome of the meeting.

13 INT. CAPTAIN'S OFFICE

KIRA stands at the door watching the Minister depart.
She turns to Sisko who is coming around from his desk.

					KIRA
That went well. I think you made
it clear to the minister why the
			Emissary can't endorse his land
			reform program.

					SISKO
				(frustrated)
It only took me three hours.

	Kira picks up a PADD.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 10.

13 CONTINUED:

					KIRA
If you like, we can go over the
			weekly personnel reports.

					SISKO
In the morning. I've got someone
waiting for me in my quarters.

Sisko EXITS quickly. HOLD ON Kira, curious as to whom
the captain is in such a rush to see.

14 INT. SISKO'S QUARTERS

The captain hurriedly ENTERS, stops. The room's empty.

					SISKO
			Jake? Jennifer?

Sisko checks the other rooms, they're not there.

					SISKO
				(to com)
			Computer. Locate Jake Sisko.

					COMPUTER VOICE
Jake Sisko is not on the station.

A puzzled Sisko notices an odd-looking (TECH) device
lying conspicuously on the table. He picks it up and
examines it; it's the (TECH) device Smiley used to
transport him and the captain in "Through the Looking
	Glass."

15 INT. OPS (OPTICAL)

Sisko, O'BRIEN, Kira and DAX are gathered around the
Ops table. O'Brien is evaluating the (TECH) device
Jennifer left Sisko. He's opened a small panel on the
device and is poking its innards.

					O'BRIEN
You're sure this is what Smiley
used to transport you to the
			alternate universe?

					SISKO
			Looks like it.

					DAX
			And you're convinced Jake's gone
			over there?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 11.

15 CONTINUED:

					SISKO
He's not on the station and
			neither is Jennifer.

					KIRA
Maybe he convinced her to take him
			there for a visit.

					SISKO
			Without asking me?

					DAX
				(re: the device)
It could be why she left this
			behind. It's an invitation to
			join them.

					SISKO
And I accept -- if only to get
			Jake back.

					KIRA
You want some company? I can
think of safer places to visit.

	Sisko agrees.

					SISKO
Major, you and the Chief, come
			with me.
				(to Dax)
			Commander, you have Ops.

Sisko takes the (TECH) device and heads for the
Transporter pad. Kira goes to a weapons locker and
takes out two phasers, one for herself and one she
	hands to O'Brien.

					O'BRIEN
			Expecting trouble, Major?

					KIRA
			Just want to be prepared.

She takes out another phaser for Sisko.

16 ANGLE ON THE TRANSPORTER PAD (OPTICAL)

Sisko steps over to the transporter console and runs
the device over it, exactly like O'Brien did in
	"Through the Looking Glass."

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 12.

16 CONTINUED:

Sisko steps on the transporter pad, joining Kira
	and O'Brien.

					SISKO
			Energize.

The transport beam comes on but to the surprise of all,
only Sisko DEMATERIALIZES. Kira and O'Brien exchange
	a concerned look --

									HARD CUT:

17 INT. TEROK NOR - OPS (OPTICAL)

Sisko MATERIALIZES. PULL BACK TO REVEAL that we are
now in the parallel universe, and that Ops now looks
like it did in "Crossover." Ops is manned by rebel
troops. O'Brien, aka "SMILEY" is leaning up against a
nearby railing, obviously waiting patiently for Sisko's
	arrival.

					O'BRIEN
			Welcome back, Captain.

					SISKO
				(looking around for Kira
				and O'Brien)
			What happened to the others?

					O'BRIEN
			They weren't invited.

Sisko steps off the transporter pad.

					SISKO
			Where's my son?

					O'BRIEN
			With Professor Sisko. She's
			showing him the station.

					SISKO
The tour's over. I'm taking Jake
			home.

					O'BRIEN
Then I'm afraid we have a bit of
			a problem.

					SISKO
			What kind of a problem?

					O'BRIEN
			Jake's not going anywhere...

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT ONE 13.

17 CONTINUED:

A pair of REBELS armed with phaser rifles flank Sisko.
One of the rebels takes the (TECH) device out of
Sisko's hand, the other relieves him of his phaser.

					O'BRIEN
			... and neither are you.

	On Sisko's expression, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT ONE

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 14.
                            ACT TWO

	FADE IN:

18 INT. TEROK NOR - INTENDANT'S OFFICE (OPTICAL)
O'Brien is seated in the Intendant's chair. This is a
somewhat different O'Brien than we've seen before; he
possesses the quiet confidence and focus of a leader.
Sisko stands across the table from him, reining himself
in, impatient to know what's going on with his son. In
the b.g., the two rebel guards are still present.

					O'BRIEN
Terok Nor in rebel hands... it
goes to show what people can do
			when their cause is just.

					SISKO
			Save the speeches, Smiley. Right
now, I don't care too much for you
			or your cause.

					O'BRIEN
You've every right to be angry.
			After all, we haven't exactly
			played fair with you.

					SISKO
			You kidnapped my son.

					O'BRIEN
			Kidnapped... an ugly word.

					SISKO
			But accurate.

					O'BRIEN
Tell me, Captain... if we'd come
to you and asked for help in
			fighting the Alliance, what would
			you have said?

					SISKO
			I'd have said, no.

					O'BRIEN
				(exactly)
Which is why we had to use your
son to lure you over here.
Because we do need your help,
Captain. No one else will do.

O'Brien moves across the room and taps a console by a
	large screen.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 15.

18 CONTINUED:

The screen comes alive with a SCHEMATIC of the Defiant.

					O'BRIEN
			Recognize her?

					SISKO
				(the last thing he expected)
			The Defiant.

					O'BRIEN
During our last encounter, when I
			"visited" your station...
				(pleased)
			... I took a moment and downloaded
as many of your computer files as
I could. Figured they'd come in
handy one day. And they have.
				(a beat, then serious)
You see, captain, taking Terok Nor
was one thing... keeping it, now
			that's the tricky part. The
Alliance fleet is already on its
way and when they get here, I want
to give them a proper welcome.

Sisko looks over the blueprints carefully. He
understands what O'Brien has in mind.

					SISKO
			These schematics look complete.
If you want to build another
Defiant, you don't need my help.

					O'BRIEN
			We've already built her. But
every time we power up the
engines, the whole ship damn near
			shakes itself apart.

					SISKO
We had the same trouble. It's a
			powerful ship.

					O'BRIEN
Well, right now it's a little too
powerful for its own good. So how
			did you solve the problem?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 16.

18 CONTINUED:	(2)

					SISKO
We had to overhaul the structural
			integrity field grid.

					O'BRIEN
			How long did it take?

					SISKO
			Two weeks.

					O'BRIEN
			We have four days.

					SISKO
I'm not sure that's enough time.

					O'BRIEN
It'd better be -- or the Defiant
won't be ready and you and your
son will die along with the rest
of us... or worse, spend the rest
of your lives working in the ore
			processing center under the tender
			mercies of an Alliance overseer.

Sisko can see the box that he's in all too clearly.

					O'BRIEN
Help us, captain, and I promise
we'll get you and your son out of
			here before the fireworks begin.
				(a beat)
The Defiant is at Docking Port
Five. I think you know the way.

					SISKO

I want to see Jake first.

					O'BRIEN
			I knew you would.

O'Brien and Sisko head for the door, it opens to REVEAL
BASHIR. The rebel victory has inflated his already
bloated opinion of himself. This Bashir never walks,
	he swaggers.

					BASHIR
				(to O'Brien)
			Is he with us?

O'Brien stares at Bashir; it's apparent there's no
great love between these two men.

					O'BRIEN
				(to Sisko)
			You remember Captain Bashir.

					SISKO
			Captain?

					O'BRIEN
				(amused)
			Captain Bashir, Captain O'Brien,
Captain Sisko. We may not have
enough weapons or troops or ships
but we've got plenty of captains.

					BASHIR
Is he going to help us or not?

					O'BRIEN
				(to Sisko, sarcastic,
				re: Bashir)
I bet you missed that cheery face.
				(to Bashir, re: Sisko)
Relax, the Captain has found it in
his heart to aid us once again.

					BASHIR
			Good.

Bashir turns to Sisko and slugs him, knocking him back
against the desk. O'Brien steps between them before
	Sisko can retaliate.

					BASHIR
I owed you that. I let you hit me
once because I thought you were
our Captain Sisko. Now I know
			better.

Sisko steps up to Bashir -- staring at him calmly.

					SISKO
			We're even now.

Sisko EXITS. HOLD ON O'Brien and Bashir.

					O'BRIEN
If I were you... I'd stay out of
			his way.

19 INT. QUARK'S

Rebels scattered eating and drinking. This is a more
raucous bar than we're used to. Leaning against the
bar, with a dabo girl on each arm, is NOG. He's
casting a somewhat jaundiced eye on Jake, who, with
Jennifer, stands in front of him.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 18.

19 CONTINUED:

					NOG
			You and I friends? I don't think
			so.

					JAKE
			Why not?

					NOG
			You're too tall. I don't trust
			tall men.
				(then looking at the
				statuesque dabo girls)
			Tall women... that's a different
			story.
				(a beat)
			Here.

Nog flings one of the women at Jake.

					NOG
			See for yourself.

	Jennifer admonishes him lightly:

					JENNIFER
Jake, isn't she a little old for
			you?

Jake laughs, but lets go of the dabo girl,
	feeling awkward and somewhat embarrassed.

					NOG
Who are you -- his mother?

The accusation hangs in the air as Jennifer and Jake
exchange an awkward look, which is broken by an
	offscreen voice --

					SISKO (O.S.)
			Jake!

Jake knows that he's got some explaining to do. Jake
and Sisko move off away from Nog and Jennifer.

					JAKE
			Dad... I'm sorry.
				(adamant)
			But I had to come.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 19.

					JAKE
			Somehow, talking to Jennifer...
telling her all about the last
			nine years... about all that's
happened to me... what I've done,
what I've been thinking about --
			it's like telling Mom.

Sisko can certainly understand; then trying to convince
himself as much as Jake, he offers:

					SISKO
In a lot of ways she's nothing
			like your Mom.

					JAKE
Yeah, but in some ways, she's just
like her -- and not just
			physically. She listens like Mom.
And it's the exact same smile --

	Sisko's heard enough.

					SISKO
			Okay, Jake.

					JAKE
				(pleased, he smiles with
				relief)
			This place is unbelievable...
Chief O'Brien, Doctor Bashir, Dax --
			they're all here. I know, it's
not really them... but... look --
			here's Nog.
				(to Nog)
			This is my father.

					NOG
				(disapproving)
			He's tall, too.

					SISKO
			Sorry.

Sisko puts his arm around his son.

					SISKO
Look, Jake-O... I need to speak to
			Jennifer alone for a minute.

	Jake smiles.

					JAKE
			She likes you.

					SISKO
				(stopping him)
			Jake -- whatever you're thinking,
			whatever plans you're making --
			forget about them.

					JAKE
I'm not making any plans, Dad.

Sisko studies his son for a second; he can see that
this issue is far from settled. Sisko steps up to
	Jennifer.

					SISKO
				(an order)
			Outside.

After a beat, Jennifer smiles at Jake, then follows
	Sisko.

20 INT. PROMENADE

Sisko turns and confronts Jennifer as she comes out of
the bar. He keeps his voice low, but there is great
	strength behind it.

					SISKO
I just want to know one thing...
			whose idea was this?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 21.

20 CONTINUED:

					JENNIFER
			Does it matter?

					SISKO
			It does to me.

Jennifer can see that it does; she owns up to the
	truth.

					JENNIFER
It was mine. We needed you to
help us complete the ship. Smiley
had told me all about you... about
			your wife's death... about your
			son.
				(a beat)
I knew Jake would want to meet me --
that I'd remind him of his mother.

					SISKO
				(with some anger)
			You're nothing like his mother.

					JENNIFER
			I think Jake would disagree.

Sisko knows she's right and his anger boils.

					SISKO
Of course he would -- in his mind,
the three of us are already living
			together.

					JENNIFER
				(right back at him)
Ben -- you're the one that
convinced me to join the rebels --
to fight the good fight for my
			people.

					SISKO
			It's not your cause I have a
problem with -- it's your methods.

					JENNIFER
I'm sorry if Jake's feelings get
hurt -- but it's a small price to
pay if it means success against
			the Alliance.

Point to Jennifer. Sisko forces himself to calm down.

					SISKO
All right, I'm here. And I'm
going to help. But I want you to
			leave my son alone.

					SISKO
			Why not?

21 NEW ANGLE

As Jake calls from inside Quark's:

					JAKE
			Jennifer!

Jake waves her over -- wanting her to come over toward
him. Jennifer nods, indicating she'll be right there.
Jennifer can't help being touched by Jake's attention.

					JENNIFER
				(answering Sisko's question)
Because he won't leave me alone.

With that, she turns and heads back to Jake in the bar.
We HOLD ON Sisko for a moment...

22 EXT. SPACE (OPTICAL)

The Alliance fleet of Klingon and Cardassian ships,
favoring the Klingon flagship we saw in "Way of the
	Warrior."

23 INT. KLINGON FLAGSHIP - BRIDGE

A KLINGON OFFICER ENTERS holding a chain that leads to
a collar wrapped around GARAK'S neck. Garak looks
somewhat the worse for wear, but he's still as crafty
	as ever.

The officer yanks the chain, flinging Garak forward
and bringing him to his knees in front of the Captain's
chair. All we see of the person in the chair is a pair
	of Klingon boots.

					KLINGON OFFICER
			Bow before the Regent!

					GARAK
			I can't think of anything I'd
			rather do.

The officer hands the end of the chain to the Regent,
who is now revealed -- it is none other than WORF. But
	this is not our Worf...

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 23.

23 CONTINUED:

... the Regent is as wild and woolly a Klingon as we've
ever encountered. Worf wraps the chain around his hand
and yanks the chain taut, cutting off Garak's air
	supply.

					WORF
So this is the p'tak who lost
			Terok Nor to the rebels.

Garak struggles to speak, but can't get the words out
	until...

					WORF
				(with renewed fury)
Are you calling me a liar?

Garak shakes his head. Worf eases the reins allowing
Garak to gasp some air. Garak immediately begins
	talking.

					GARAK
I was merely observing that as one
of the many officers under the
			Intendant's command, it would be
an overstatement to imply that I,
			alone, was responsible for our
			defeat.

					WORF
			You're the only officer who
			managed to escape.

					GARAK
			I suppose I could've surrendered
to the rebels. Groveling on the
floor, begging for my life... like
			the Intendant.

					WORF
You're just trying to shift blame
			away from yourself.

					GARAK
			Am I succeeding?

But Worf has bigger things on his mind.

					WORF
This time, I'll deal with the
			rebels myself. And you're going
to be at my side, redeeming
			yourself in battle.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT TWO 24.

23 CONTINUED:	(2)

					GARAK
			Your fairness and good judgement
is everything I've heard it to be.
Believe me, my Regent, it will
take the blood of many rebels to
			quench my thirst for revenge.

					WORF
			Spoken like a Klingon.

					GARAK
			I'm trying.
				(seeing an opening)
Now, if you'll just remove this
			insufferable collar...

But Worf only re-tightens the choke on the chain, his
mind focusing on the coming battle. Garak groans.

					WORF

The collar stays until every rebel
on Terok Nor lies dead at my feet.

	And on this image, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT TWO

                           ACT THREE

	FADE IN:

24 EXT. SPACE - TEROK NOR (OPTICAL)

The partially built Defiant is docked at the station.

25 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

Sisko and a half dozen REBELS are busy installing
various ship systems (i.e., Tactical, weapons, life
	support, etc.) on the Defiant.

					SISKO
				(to com)
Sisko to Smiley. I'm about to put
			the deuterium injector back on-line.

									INTERCUT WITH:

26 INT. DEFIANT - ENGINE ROOM - CONTINUOUS

O'Brien is working at one of the consoles near the warp
	core.

					O'BRIEN
Go ahead. I've got the flow
			regulators shut off.

27 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

Sisko works his console; checking the readings.

					SISKO
			Injectors are operational.
			You can recalibrate the regulators
			now.

					O'BRIEN'S COM VOICE
			Will do.

28 NEW ANGLE

to see Dax, who strides onto the Bridge and makes a
	beeline for Sisko.

					DAX
			I heard you were back.

But before Sisko can respond, she slaps him across the
	face.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 26.

28 CONTINUED:

					DAX
That's for making love to me under
			false pretenses. I was suspicious
			of you from the start.

					SISKO
			You hid it well.

					DAX
				(a warning)
If you ever try to touch me
			again...

Dax whips out a long, curved dagger. DAX
			Get my point?

					SISKO
				(re: knife)
			I hope not.

Suddenly, we hear SHOUTS offscreen coming from the
Docking Ring corridor, followed by the unmistakable
sound of a PHASER BLAST. Sisko and Dax exchange a look
then hurry out of the Defiant.

29 INT. DOCKING RING CORRIDOR

Kira is crouched on the floor, writhing in pain.
Bashir and two rebel guards stand over her. Bashir
holds a phaser in one hand and aims a small (TECH)
device (that looks like the Agonizer, the torture
device used in "Mirror, Mirror" episode) in the other.
There's an open access panel marked with a phaser
	scorch.

					SISKO
			What happened?

					BASHIR
				(with an edge)
You remember the Intendant, don't you?
I was taking her to an
			interrogation session when the
			vile little tyrant tried to
			escape.

Bashir gives her another blast of the (TECH) device.
Kira doubles over again in agony.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 27.

29 CONTINUED:

					SISKO
				(to the two rebel guards)
			Pick her up.

					BASHIR
				(objecting)
			Leave her. She's not through
			learning her lesson.

Though still in a lot of pain, Kira looks up at Bashir
	and smiles defiantly.

					KIRA
If this is supposed to teach me a
lesson... you better turn that toy
of yours to a higher setting.

					BASHIR
			Gladly.

Bashir applies another dose on the Intendant until
Sisko grabs his arm and slams him against the bulkhead.

					SISKO
			That's enough.

Something in Sisko's voice makes Bashir back down; he
allows Sisko to take the (TECH) device out of his hand.

					BASHIR
			Whose side are you on?

					SISKO
			There's a difference between
			interrogation and torture.

					BASHIR
			The Alliance never made that
			distinction.

					SISKO
			But you should.

Bashir has to concede the point.

					BASHIR
				(to the rebel guards)
Take her back to her cell.

The rebel guards take her by the arm, but she pulls
herself away, stepping up to Sisko.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 28.

29 CONTINUED:	(2)

					KIRA
Well done. I must admit the last
time you were here you had me
			completely fooled. I really
			thought you were my Benjamin
			Sisko.

					SISKO
			That was the idea.

Stepping up to Sisko so that she can almost whisper in
	his ear.

					KIRA
Help me escape and I promise I'll
			be grateful. Very grateful.

					SISKO
I'm sure you would be. But don't
			count on it.

The rebel guards start hauling her away. Over her
	shoulder, she says to Sisko:

					KIRA
Then perhaps you could find Marani
for me and send her to my holding
			cell.

					SISKO
			Marani?

					KIRA
			One of my servants.
				(looking at Bashir)
			I am a touch sore.
				(then back to Sisko, lasciviously)
			And Marani gives the most
			exquisite massages.

As Kira disappears around the corner, Sisko looks over
at Bashir and Dax. Dax is grooming Bashir's hair in a
	solicitous manner.

					DAX
				(to Bashir)
			You're sure you're all right?

					BASHIR
				(not wanting to be pampered)
			I'm fine.

					SISKO
			I've got work to do.

Sisko tosses the "torture" device to Dax.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 29.

29 CONTINUED: (3)

					SISKO
				(re: Bashir, dryly)
In case he gets out of line.

Bashir and Dax exchange a look.

30 EXT. SPACE - KLINGON FLAGSHIP (OPTICAL)

	Traveling at warp.

31 INT. KLINGON FLAGSHIP - BRIDGE

CLOSE ON Regent Worf. He is not happy.

					WORF
A ship? What kind of ship?

PULL BACK to reveal Worf seated in his chair facing the
Klingon officer. Garak, still chained, sits on the
floor at Worf's feet. He's not happy either.

					KLINGON OFFICER
According to our reports, it's of
			unknown classification and carries
			an impressive weapons array --
			some kind of improved photon
			torpedoes, multi-targeting phaser
			banks...

					WORF
			How long until it's operational?

					KLINGON OFFICER
			Within two days.

					GARAK
I know it's none of my business
but... perhaps it would be prudent
to increase our speed to warp
			nine.

	Worf yanks his chain... literally.

					WORF
			Quiet.

					GARAK
I'm merely trying to be of
			service.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 30.

31 CONTINUED:

					WORF
			If it wasn't for your
			incompetence, the rebels would
			have been destroyed.

					GARAK
I thought we'd agreed that it was
			the Intendant who was incompetent.
I was merely following her orders.

					WORF
			And for following those orders
			you deserve to die.

					GARAK
				(fed up)
Then why don't you kill me?
				(off Worf's look)
The Intendant was bad enough. She
			was irrational, accusatory,
			unappreciative. But at least...

Garak cuts himself off, not wanting to go on. But Worf
	pulls his chain again.

					WORF
			At least what?

					GARAK
				(no choice)
At least I was able to...
				(suggestively)
			please her now and then.

Worf tightens the chain, pulling him in close.

					WORF
			You're not my type.

					GARAK
			I never said I was.

Worf turns his attention to the Klingon officer.

					WORF
			Increase speed to warp nine.

32 EXT. SPACE - TEROK NOR (OPTICAL) (STOCK)

	Re-establishing.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 31.

33 INT. TEROK NOR - JENNIFER'S QUARTERS

Jennifer and Jake are seated at a table, finishing up
a meal. Jake looks expectantly at Jennifer.

					JAKE
			So what do you think?

				JENNIFER
It was delicious. What do you
			call it?

					JAKE
			Chicken a la Sisko.

					JENNIFER
How did you learn to cook like
			that?

					JAKE
All Sisko men have the cooking
gene. You should taste my Dad's
			shrimp Creole.

					JENNIFER
			Maybe one day, I will.

Jake smiles, pleased at his matchmaking skills. The
	door CHIMES.

					JENNIFER
			Come in.

The door opens to REVEAL Sisko. He is very tired.

					SISKO
Let's go, Jake. Time to call it
			a day.

					JENNIFER
Care for some chicken a la Sisko?
				(off his look)
			Jake made dinner. It's wonderful.

					SISKO
			I'm too tired to eat.
				(to Jake, "hurry up")
			Jake-O.

But Jake isn't ready to leave.

					JAKE
In a minute, Dad. I don't want to
			leave a mess.

					JENNIFER
			That's not really necessary...

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 32.

33 CONTINUED:

					JAKE
			I want to.

Jake picks up the plates from the table and EXITS into

his son. He rubs the back of his neck.

					JENNIFER
How's your work on the Defiant coming?

					SISKO
			Slowly.

Jennifer slides behind Sisko and smoothly starts
massaging his shoulders. At first, it doesn't even
register that she has her hands on his body.

					JENNIFER
			Does that feel better?

					SISKO
				(nods)
But I'm not sure what you expect
			to gain by it.

 					JENNIFER
			I'm not expecting to gain
anything. I just want to remind
you that I'm not your enemy.

	Sisko remains quiet.

					JENNIFER
			I don't know why you're being so
hard on me. You pretended to be
my husband, and I've forgiven you.
				(a beat)
By the way, you've done a good job
with him -- Jake, I mean.

					SISKO
Right now, you're not making that

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT THREE 33.

33 CONTINUED:	(2)

					JENNIFER
			He'll get over me.

					SISKO
			Maybe.

					JENNIFER
I just wish I could say the same.

Sisko turns around to look her in the eyes.

					JENNIFER
Is it really such a surprise?
Think about it, my Ben Sisko is
dead. I look at Jake and all I
can see is the son I'll never
			have. Maybe bringing him here
wasn't such a good idea after
			all...

					SISKO
			For any of us.

Sisko and Jennifer stare at each other for a beat. The
moment is broken by the door CHIME.

					JENNIFER
			Yes?

The door opens and in comes O'Brien, looking concerned.

					O'BRIEN
I just got word... the Alliance
fleet is less than eight hours
			away.
				(a beat)
Looks like we've run out of time.

	And off Sisko's reaction, we:

									FADE OUT.

                       END OF ACT THREE

	FADE IN:

34 INT. DEFIANT - ENGINE ROOM

The room is swarming with activity. Crews work on both
levels to get systems on-line. O'Brien and Sisko stand
	in the center, consulting PADDS.

					SISKO
			You concentrate on getting the
			weapons array on-line. I'll
			calibrate the S.I.F. generators.

					O'BRIEN
Eight hours. It's not a lot of
			time, is it?

					SISKO
			It's all we have.

35 NEW ANGLE

as Bashir and Dax ENTER, rolling in a cart. On the
	cart is a photon torpedo.

					BASHIR
Smiley -- your damn assembly crew
won't let me into the aft torpedo
			bay.

					O'BRIEN
			That's because they're still
			trying to get the torpedo
			chambering mechanisms on-line.

					BASHIR
				(sarcastic)
Great. So what do I do with these
			torpedoes?

					O'BRIEN
				(frustrated, nothing's
				going right)
			I've got a few suggestions.

					BASHIR
				(with an edge)
			Do you now.

The two men face off -- about to come to blows.

					DAX
			This isn't getting us anywhere.
We need to buy ourselves more
			time.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 35.

35 CONTINUED:

	No one disagrees.

					SISKO
			Any ideas?

	A beat, then Bashir nods.

					BASHIR
How many raiders do we have left?

					O'BRIEN
Only one. There's no way we can
			stop the Alliance attack.

					BASHIR
Maybe not. But I might be able to
buy some extra time before they
			get here.

					O'BRIEN
				(a warning)
			You'll never make it back.

					BASHIR
Is that what you're worried about?
Or are you afraid I'll wind up
			with all the glory?

					O'BRIEN
what good is glory if you're dead?

	Bashir smiles.

					BASHIR
			Who said anything about dying?

					DAX
			When do we leave?

Bashir reacts, surprised at the "we" part. Dax
	explains to him:

					DAX
I've never liked sitting around in
			one place for too long.

					BASHIR
				(pleased)
			Then it's settled.

					SISKO
Before you go, we'd better make
damn sure you can get us that
			extra time.

Everyone looks at Sisko, what does he have in mind?

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 36.

36 INT. HOLDING CELL

	CLOSE ON the smiling Intendant.

					KIRA
Me? Help you fight the Alliance?
			What a perverse idea.
				(a beat)
But I've got a better one... why
			don't I cut your throat? A quick
death. And far less painful than
what the Regent will do to you.

					SISKO
I think you'd better worry about
what the Regent's going to do to
			you.

					KIRA
The Regent has no reason to
			question my loyalty.

					SISKO
It's not your loyalty he'll be
			questioning -- it's your
			effectiveness. After all, he
wouldn't have to retake Terok Nor
if you hadn't lost it in the first
			place.

The Intendant's anger flares with a frightening intensity.

					KIRA
			I didn't lose anything -- it was
Garak and the rest of those
			Alliance fools... with their
			excessive brutality. I could
never get them to understand that
			violence is a precision
			instrument. A scalpel, not a
			club.

					SISKO
Garak was smart enough to escape.

					KIRA
Garak's a coward. He ran at the
			first sign of danger.

					SISKO
Probably straight into the arms of
the Regent. where he no doubt
laid the blame for the loss of
			this station entirely on you.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 37.

36 CONTINUED:

					KIRA
			You have a point.

Sisko is pleased that she has come to the right
	conclusion.

					SISKO
Good. Then I'll ask you again --
is there any weakness in the
			Alliance fleet? Something we can
			exploit... ?

					KIRA
			It's possible. Why don't you
lower this forcefield and join me
			in here?
				(suggestive)
			It might stimulate my thought
			process.

					SISKO
			I would think self-preservation
			would be stimulation enough for
			you.

					KIRA
			That's not a very friendly
			attitude, considering you want my
			help.

But Sisko doesn't move; after a beat, the Intendant
	voices her thoughts:

					KIRA
			It's Professor Sisko, isn't it?
Well, she is attractive but I've
			known Breen icicles that are
			warmer than she is.

					SISKO
This has nothing to do with her.

					KIRA
				(she knows better)
			If you say so.

Kira smiles wickedly. Now that she's scored her point,
she is willing to tell him what he wants to know.

					KIRA
I never was able to resist anyone
			named Benjamin Sisko. Alliance
ships are fast and powerful... but
			they do have one weakness.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 38.

36 CONTINUED:	(2)

					KIRA (Cont'd)
			Their targeting systems can be

	Sisko sees the possibilities here.

					SISKO
How do I know I can believe you?

					KIRA
				(pleased)
You're just going to have to trust me.

	Sisko knows that's true.

37 EXT. SPACE - KLINGON FLAGSHIP (OPTICAL)

	Moving at warp.

38 INT. KLINGON FLAGSHIP - BRIDGE

Garak smashes against a wall -- having just been struck
by Worf. Garak falls to the floor, his chain still
around his neck. Worf, holding the other end of the
chain, yanks Garak to his feet.

					WORF
The key -- where is it?

					GARAK
			You're not listening, I didn't
			take the key.

					WORF
			You're lying.

Worf shoves him against the wall again. Worf looks
over his shoulder at the Klingon officer we saw in Act
	Two.

					KLINGON OFFICER
				(with angry
				embarrassment)
I'm telling you he stole it from
me while I was feeding him.

Worf slams Garak against the wall yet again.

					WORF
Don't make me ask you again.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" -REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 39.

38 CONTINUED:

					GARAK
What good would the key do me?
Even if I unlocked this collar --
where could I go? I can't get off
			this ship. And besides, you've
searched me three times already --
where could I possibly be hiding
			it?

	Worf takes his dagger.

					WORF
			Perhaps you swallowed it.

					GARAK
			Impossible. I'm very particular
			about what I eat.

					WORF
			We'll see about that.

And to Garak's surprise, Worf stabs Garak in the gut.

					KLINGON OFFICER (O.S.)
			Regent...

Worf, still holding the dagger handle, answers without
	turning away from Garak.

					WORF
			What is it?

39 NEW ANGLE

to include the chagrined Klingon officer holding the key.

					KLINGON OFFICER
			The key, sir...
				(chagrinned)
... somehow it had fallen into my boot.

					GARAK
				(a pained whisper)
			Now do you believe me?

Worf pulls out the blade; Garak, in pain, covers his
wound with both hands. Worf hands the end of the chain
	to the Klingon officer.

					WORF
				(to the guard, re:
				Garak)
			If he dies, you die.

The Klingon supports Garak as they walk out of the room.

40 NEW ANGLE

	up from his console.

					KLINGON HELMSMAN
			Six Rebel raiders approaching.
			Bearing three-five-four mark zero-

46 EXT. SPACE (OPTICAL)

The entire Alliance fleet breaks formation to pursue
the fleeing rebel ship. The Alliance ships open FIRE.

47 ANOTHER ANGLE (OPTICAL)

A volley of torpedo BLASTS scatter around the Raider
ship. Though some of the shots come close, none of
them hit their mark -- the Alliance targeting systems
are fooled by the warp shadow emissions.

48 EXT. SPACE - TEROK NOR (OPTICAL)

Favoring the docked Defiant, now almost complete.

49 INT. DEFIANT - CONDUIT

Sisko is working on an open panel. He's working as

	concentration.

					JENNIFER (O.S.)
You look like you could use
			another pair of hands.

Widen to REVEAL Jennifer. Sisko keeps working, there's
	no time to waste.

					SISKO
			Smaller ones might help.

					JENNIFER
			Here, let me.

Sisko steps back to allow her access, handing her a

					SISKO
			Sorry.

Jennifer begins work on the panel. Jennifer speaks
offhandedly, but she knows that what she's about to say is
	very significant.

					JENNIFER
For what it's worth, you should
know I've told Jake the truth.
				(off Sisko's reaction)
About my visit to you... why I
brought him here... everything.	Sisko's interest is piqued.

					SISKO
			And?

					JENNIFER
				(surprised herself)
He said it didn't matter. He's
still glad to have met me.
				(a beat)
And the funny thing is I know he
			means it.

					SISKO
				(with a smile)
			He has a forgiving nature.

					JENNIFER
			It's more than that -- I don't
think he could be angry with me
even if he wanted to. I remind
him too much of his mother.

					SISKO
			He loved her very much.

					JENNIFER
				(very moved)

					SISKO
			When?

 					JENNIFER
			Right away.

					SISKO
What's Smiley going to say about
			that?

 					JENNIFER
He trusts you to finish your job.
			And so do I.

	Sisko nods.

					JENNIFER
You want to say good-bye to him?

Jennifer completes the task, returning the tool to
	Sisko.

					SISKO
I better finish here. Tell Jake
			I'll see him soon.

There's an awkward beat between them; Sisko returns to
work, opening another panel. Jennifer studies Sisko
	intently before saying:

					JENNIFER
Ben, when we first met... there

					SISKO
I'm not sure it was real to begin
			with.

This is not what Jennifer wanted to hear, but she
resigns herself to the truth of his words.

					JENNIFER
I better go get Jake home.

She EXITS; Sisko watches her leave.

49A INT. PROMENADE

Jake is standing at the equivalent of his "usual spot,"

					NOG (O.S)
Hey -- what are you doing there?

49B NEW ANGLE

to include Nog, approaching from the bar.

					JAKE
			Nothing. I'm just... thinking.

					NOG
			Well, think somewhere else.
			You're making me uncomfortable.

Jake can't help but to smile at the odd synchronicity
	of the moment.

					NOG
			What's so funny?

					JAKE
Where I come from, it's you and I

your uncle that chases us away.

					NOG
Am I suppose to be impressed by

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 43A.

49B CONTINUED:

					NOG (Cont'd)
I don't care about some parallel

					JAKE
All right, you made your point.

	But Jake doesn't move.

					NOG
			I'm waiting.

					JAKE
			I'm going.

					NOG
			Good.

You're a long way from home, hew-

					JAKE

			I guess I am.

49C NEW ANGLE

	As Jennifer approaches.

					JENNIFER
Jake, I need to speak to you.

					JAKE
			Sure.

Jennifer and Jake walk away. We stay on Nog watching

50 INT. TEROK NOR - HOLDING CELL

A bored and exasperated Intendant stares malevolently

					KIRA
Tell me something, are you as

The guard looks away, doesn't want to get involved in

					KIRA
			Isn't that a coincidence... I was

					NOG

	The guard steps up.

					GUARD
			Show me.

Nog holds the tray up for inspection. The guard lifts
the lid -- as he does, Nog slams the tray into
the guard's face. The guard is jolted back, but Nog stays
on him, pummeling him with both fists until he goes
	down, knocked unconscious.

					KIRA
			Nicely done.

	Nog takes the guard's disruptor.

					NOG
			Thank you.

52 CLOSE ON NOG (OPTICAL)

as he FIRES the disruptor at the forcefield controls.
The forcefield FRITZES OUT, freeing the Intendant.

					NOG
I have a ship waiting for you on
			Landing Pad C.

The Intendant takes the disruptor from Nog.

					KIRA
I'll need this more than you will.
				(as she checks the power
				levels on disruptor)
I wasn't aware we were on the same
			side.

					NOG
				(simply)
You killed my father and my uncle.
				(off her look)
Thanks to you -- I own the bar.

Kira nods, that's the kind of logic she understands.
They quickly EXIT the holding area.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FOUR 45.

the ship for takeoff. Another hit ROCKS the ship.

					O'BRIEN

			Jettison the docking scaffold.
				(to Sisko)
Time for you to go, captain. I
			believe that was the agreement.

					SISKO
I'm on my way. Just wanted to

					O'BRIEN
			Thanks.

O'Brien sits down in the captain's chair.

					O'BRIEN
You've given us a fine ship.

Sisko nods, and turns to exit.

55 CLOSE ON SISKO

	checking out the captain's console.

					O'BRIEN
I only wish I had a chance to get

	Sisko comes to a dead stop. WE HOLD ON HIM for a beat;
O'Brien's words are the last thing he wants to hear,
	but he can't ignore them.

					O'BRIEN
Oh, well... nothing like a little

O'Brien just stands there for a moment.

					SISKO
What are you standing there for,
			Smiley?

					O'BRIEN
Captain, you never cease to amaze
			me...

					SISKO
			Sometimes I even surprise myself.

O'Brien CROSSES over to take the helm as another hit
	ROCKS the ship.

					SISKO
			How long will the station's
			shields withstand the Alliance
			assault?

					O'BRIEN
Long enough for us to see just how
tough this ship of yours really
			is.

					SISKO
Let's find out. Take us out of
			here.

O'Brien furiously taps his console --

56 INT. DOCKING RING CORRIDOR - CONTINUOUS (OPTICAL)

Nog and the Intendant hurry down the corridor as a
	blast ROCKS the station.

					NOG
You're sure you want to leave now?

					NOG
			Well, don't worry, about me -- I
won't tell anyone where you are.

Nog moves off down the corridor. WE STAY with the
Intendant, who heads the other way, toward camera.
Suddenly she stops -- we can see her debating
something. She gives a small smile, and turns back to
	Nog.

					KIRA
				(calling out)
			Nog.

Down the corridor, Nog turns in response.

					KIRA
			You're right. You won't tell
			anyone.

The Intendant raises the disruptor and FIRES, hitting
him squarely in the chest. He falls, dead.

57 CLOSE ON THE INTENDANT

to see that a nagging weight has been lifted from her
	shoulders. Kira moves off.

58 INT. ANOTHER PART OF THE DOCKING RING CORRIDOR

Jennifer leads Jake around the corner.

					JAKE
I don't see why you can't come to
			Deep Space Nine with me.

 					JENNIFER
Believe me, Jake, it's better in

59 NEW ANGLE

battle should be fought in close proximity to the

69 INT. TEROK NOR - DOCKING RING CORRIDOR

Jennifer and Jake are walking. Holding the disruptor

the station SHAKES from the Alliance attack.

					KIRA
I really must thank you, Jennifer.
Not only will you guarantee my

Kira is surprised by Jennifer's attitude.

					KIRA
I've never seen you so passionate.
It gives you a lovely glow.
				(a beat)
All right... he doesn't have to

There's something in the Intendant's voice that alarms

					KIRA
Just out of curiosity, why was she

	Jake, looking down at Jennifer.

					JAKE

			She's... my mother.

					KIRA

			Your mother?
				(then, putting it all

His silence confirms her suspicions. She lowers

					KIRA
In that case, give your father a

And with that, she hurries down the corridor, leaving

			She's all yours.

	Sisko takes the helm.

				SISKO
			Hold on.

Sisko steers the ship hard to port --

									MATCH CUT:

77 EXT. SPACE - THE DEFIANT (OPTICAL)

Making a sharp turn and wiping the screen.

78 ANOTHER ANGLE (OPTICAL)

as the Defiant launches its attack against the much
larger Klingon vessel. The wisdom of Sisko's plan soon
becomes evident as the Defiant flies so close to the
surface of the large ship that the Klingon phasers
can't lock on to their target.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FIVE 55.

78 CONTINUED:

Sisko makes a series of spectacular maneuvers, flying
the Defiant at "treetop" level as it dives around the
larger ship, pummeling it with phaser FIRE.

79 INT. KLINGON FLAGSHIP - BRIDGE

repeatedly ROCKED by the Defiant's phaser fire. Each
blast feeds Worf's anger and frustration.

					WORF
I want that ship destroyed -- now!

					KLINGON HELMSMAN
They're flying too close -- we
			can't target them.

	The Klingon ship ROCKS again.

80 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

Sisko, still at the helm, while O'Brien is at tactical.

					O'BRIEN
We've put a hole in their forward shields.

					SISKO
			Nice shooting, Smiley.

					O'BRIEN
				(off his console)
Hold on -- a bird of prey just
			locked on to us.

	Then, with lightning-fast pacing:

					SISKO
On screen. Secondary power to aft
			shields.

					O'BRIEN
			What secondary power? You've got
to get us out of here.

					SISKO
				(shaking his head)
Can't risk giving the cruiser a
			clear shot.

	O'Brien doesn't see a way out.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FIVE 56.

80 CONTINUED:

					O'BRIEN
Damn... I was just starting to
			like this ship.

81 ANGLE ON THE SCREEN (OPTICAL)

to see the Bird of Prey tailing the Defiant. Suddenly,
the Bird of Prey EXPLODES in a ball of fire.

82 INT. REBEL RAIDER

Bashir and Dax, at the controls, let out a triumphant SHOUT.

83 EXT. SPACE - THE BATTLE - CONTINUOUS (OPTICAL)

Their Raider comes flying through the debris of the
Bird of Prey, and joins the Defiant in attacking the
	cruiser.

84 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

	As before.

					BASHIR COM VOICE
			Bashir to Defiant. Aren't you
			going to welcome me back?

					O'BRIEN
I never thought I'd be happy to
			hear your voice.

85 INT. REBEL RAIDER

					DAX
			You'll get over it.

86 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

					SISKO
			Sisko to Bashir. Concentrate your
			fire on their forward shields.

					BASHIR COM VOICE
			With pleasure.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FIVE 57.

87 EXT. SPACE - THE BATTLE - CONTINUOUS (OPTICAL)

as the Defiant and the rebel Raider PUMMEL the Klingon cruiser.

88 INT. KLINGON FLAGSHIP - BRIDGE

CLOSE ON Worf as all hell breaks lose on the Bridge,
which is taking a heavy pounding. He can't believe it.

					GARAK
Forgive me, my Regent -- but
perhaps the moment has arrived to
			remove your august presence from
			the battefield.

					WORF
				(with an edge)
			You mean retreat?

					GARAK
I hope I'm not out of line?

89 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

					O'BRIEN
				(off console)
			The cruiser is changing course...
				(a beat)
			They're going to warp.

90 EXT. SPACE (OPTICAL)

As the Klingon flagship turns tail and warps away.

91 INT. DEFIANT - BRIDGE

					O'BRIEN
			The other Alliance ships have
broken off their attack on the
			station.
				(to Sisko)
			We've won.

	Sisko smiles.

					SISKO
			You sound surprised.

					O'BRIEN
			Surprised? I'm astonished.
				(a beat)
			Not that I'm complaining...

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FIVE 57A.

91 CONTINUED:

And as O'Brien lives up to his name...

92 INT. KLINGON FLAGSHIP - BRIDGE

	Worf sits, brooding.

					WORF
				(half to himself)
			I've been betrayed.

Without looking at Garak, he yanks taut his chain
	forcing the Cardassian closer.

					WORF
There can be no other explanation
			for my defeat.

					GARAK
I certainly can't think of any.

					WORF
				(emphatic)
The traitor must be found and
			punished.

					GARAK
			She will be.
				(off Worf's reaction)
It is the Intendant we're talking
			about, isn't it?

	Worf thinks this through.

					WORF
			The Intendant... yes, of course.

					GARAX
All I ask is that when the moment
comes, you allow me, your humble
			servant, the honor of
			administering her punishment. I
promise you, she will regret her
			disloyalty before she dies.

Worf thinks about this for a moment.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FIVE 58.

92 CONTINUED:

					WORF
And while you dispose of the
			Intendant, I'll dispose of the
			rebels.

Garak is pleased by the Regent's decision.

					WORF
				(looking to Garak)
			Make it so.

	Worf glares with determination.

93 INT. TEROK NOR - PROMENADE

as Sisko hurries toward the Infirmary.

94 INT. SURGERY

Sisko ENTERS, but stops short, as he sees --

95 SISKO'S POV

Jennifer is lying on a surgical bed. Jake stands vigil
	next to her.

					JAKE
			Dad!
				(to Jennifer)
See -- I told you he'd be here.

					SISKO
			How is she?

Jake just shakes his head -- not wanting to voice his
fears. Sisko approaches the bed. Jennifer is
conscious, but very weak. Summoning her strength, she
	whispers:

					JENNIFER
			Ben...

She holds out her hand. Sisko takes hold of her hand.
She smiles and struggles to speak again.

					SISKO
			Easy.

But Jennifer is determined to say something.

DEEP SPACE NINE: "Shattered Mirror" - REV. 2/15/96 - ACT FIVE 59.

95 CONTINUED:

					JENNIFER
I knew we were still connected...

					SISKO
			Always.

She grips his hand tightly, and smiles. For a moment,
everything is all right. She's at peace. And with
	that, her eyes close.

97 CLOSE ON SISKO'S AND JENNIFER'S CLASPED HANDS

	as her hand goes limp.

98 CLOSE ON SISKO

as he slowly, reluctantly, places Jennifer's lifeless hand
	gently on the bed.

					JAKE
			Dad...

Sisko turns to Jake and envelops him in a comforting
	hug.

					JAKE
			Let's go home.

And as they stand there, wrapped in their grief, we:

									FADE OUT.

                        END OF ACT FIVE
