1 EXT. SPACE - RUNABOUT (OPTICAL)

The Runabout Rio Grande cruises through empty space.

2 INT. RUNABOUT

KIRA is at the controls. BASHIR is working on a PADD...
preparing a medical report... after a beat, Kira pushes
	herself into saying with admiration...

					KIRA
I've never seen anything like that.

					BASHIR
				(working)
			Hmm?

					KIRA
				(repeating)
I've never seen anything like that.

					BASHIR
			The woman?

					KIRA
She was dead... the tricorder clearly
			showed...

					BASHIR
			Ah yes, well tricorders... very
accurate with live people, not so
accurate with dead ones... we learn
that in the first year of medical
			school...

Trying very hard to give him a compliment...

					KIRA
			Well, I was impressed, Doctor.

					BASHIR
				(working)
Hmmm. And well you should be.

           DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 12/09/92 - TEASER 2.

2 CONTINUED:

That leaves her mouth open... and now he gets quite expansive
	about himself... given the opportunity...

					BASHIR
I impressed myself on this one
actually. I can't imagine what other

			Doctor would even consider examining
			the scapular nodes for parasitic
infection. I just seem to have a
talent. A vision that sees past the
			obvious, around the mundane... right
to the target. Fate has granted me
a special gift, Major. A gift to be
			a healer.

And now her mouth is dragging on the floor...

					KIRA
				(what an ass)
I feel privileged to be in your
			presence.

					BASHIR
				(the sport)
			Glad to have you along.

Luckily for him, a warning light flashes on the console.

					COMPUTER VOICE
Detecting a priority one broad band
			distress signal.

Kira and Bashir are instantly all business. She presses
some panels... the audio message comes through a little
distorted, but intelligible. The voice on the message is
female and belongs to TY KAJADA, whom we will meet soon.

					KAJADA (O.S)
			Kobliad transport Reyab to any
			ship. Our central power linkage
			has exploded. We're losing life
			support. Please respond...

	Bashir consults a console.

					BASHIR
Just picking it up on long range
			sensors. Bearing three four seven
			mark zero eight.

					KIRA
				(pressing information
				into panels, then
				checking)
			I'm reading massive energy leakage...
			its aft structural integrity field
			is failing...

2 CONTINUED:	(3)

Kira lays in a new course and activates the Runabout's
	subspace radio.

					KIRA
				(to com)
This is the Federation Ship Rio
			Grande. We're on our way.

3 EXT. SPACE (OPTICAL)

The Runabout alters course and moves away.

4 INT. KOBLIAD TRANSPORT - CORRIDOR (OPTICAL)

A smoke-filled hallway... a Kobliad woman (KAJADA) dressed
in a military type uniform is unconscious on the floor...
she's burned slightly... Bashir and Kira BEAM IN. They
immediately feel the effect of falling life support... hard
to breathe... They take tricorder readings.

					BASHIR
			O-2 pressure dropping rapidly...
toxic gas levels rising... we have
no more than ten minutes breathing
			time left in here...

					KIRA
			Automatic fire suppression must be
			off-line. I'll check the central
			power linkage...

She moves through the corridor and EXITS... Bashir moves to
Kajada... examines her with his tricorder... she moves with
	a start at his touch...

					BASHIR
			Relax. I'm a doctor...

He shoots Kajada with a hypospray from his medkit. Kajada
	slowly comes around.

					KAJADA
				(groggy)
			What happened?

					BASHIR
			You lost consciousness.
				(a beat)
We've got to evacuate your ship.
How many others are on board?

           DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 12/09/92 - TEASER 3A.

4 CONTINUED:

					KAJADA
				(struggling to maintain

				consciousness)
			The pilot... is dead...

Bashir is already looking at his tricorder which leads him
	to a door near Kajada...

					BASHIR
			I'm reading another lifeform...

					KAJADA
			No... don't open that...

           DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 11/25/92 - TEASER 4.

4 CONTINUED:

Bashir ignores her warning, presses the panel... it doesn't
	open the door...

					BASHIR
			It's sealed...

					KAJADA
			Prisoner... I'm transporting... he
			started the fire... to escape...

					BASHIR
			He's dying. Where's the manual
			override...

					KAJADA
			No...

Bashir scans the hallway... moves down the hallway to a
panel... opens it and hits a padd... the door slides open...
flames shoot out into the corridor... Bashir braves them to
go inside... Kajada driven by her own determination gets to
	her feet and follows...

					KAJADA
			Don't...

5 INT. KOBLIAD TRANSPORT - HOLDING CELL

A small room, full of fire and smoke. A Kobliad male (RAO
VANTIKA) is collapsed on the floor. He is badly burned,
barely alive. Bashir opens his medkit and goes to work.

					KAJADA
			He's... dangerous.

					BASHIR
I assure you, in this condition,
			he's no threat to anyone.

Kira runs in from the corridor with a 24th century fire
	extinguisher...

           DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 12/09/92 - TEASER 5.

5 CONTINUED:

					KIRA
			Power linkages are completely shot...
			maneuvering subsystems are out...
			I've managed to stabilize the
			structural integrity field, but I
don't know how long that will last...
we'll have to tow it in...

As she shoots nitrogen on the fire, Bashir injects Vantika
with the hypospray, but the criminal remains comatose.

					BASHIR
			His synaptic fields are dissipating...
			I can't get a neural reading... I
have to get him to the emergency
			unit in the Runabout.

					KIRA
				(nods, hits combadge)
			Computer, four to transport...

Suddenly, Vantika reaches out with one hand and grabs Bashir
by the throat. He pulls Bashir down until the two men are
eye to eye. Bashir struggles, trying to pull back from
	Vantika's badly burned face.

					VANTIKA
				(harsh, gravelly voice)
			...make... me... live...

Bashir wrestles to free himself from Vantika's vice-like
grip. Kira rushes to the doctor's rescue, but, before they
can do anything, Vantika releases Bashir and slumps to the
ground. Bashir scans Vantika with his tricorder. Touches
his neck. Almost immediately, Kajada slumps and Kira supports
	her...

					BASHIR
				(shakes his head)
This one I can't bring back.

	As they exchange a glance...

									FADE OUT.

6 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

7 INT. INFIRMARY

Close on Ty Kajada's face, her eyes closed. The HISS of a
hypospray can be heard in the background. Kajada's eyes
flutter open. Pull back to take in...

8 BASHIR

looking down at Kajada in concern.

					KAJADA
				(weakly)
			Where am I?

					BASHIR
			You're on Station D.S. Nine... I'm
			Doctor Bashir...

					KAJADA
			Ty Kajada... Kobliad Security...
				(late reaction)
D.S. Nine... but that's where he was
			going...

Kajada tries to get up... panicky...

					KAJADA
				(continuing)
Where is he? Where is Vantika?

					BASHIR
			Your prisoner? He's dead.

					KAJADA
			You're certain.

					BASHIR
Yes. You were the only survivor.

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 11/30/92 - ACT ONE 7.

8 CONTINUED:

					KAJADA
			Where's his body?

					BASHIR
			I have it in stasis.

					KAJADA
			I want to see it.

					BASHIR
			Later, when you're feeling stronger...

					KAJADA
			Now.

	Bashir reacts and...

	TIME CUT TO:

9 INT. STASIS ROOM - A BODY CABINET (OPTICAL)

Vantika has been laid out on the shelf... Bashir hits a
button... the shelf slides out of the wall and a stasis
	forcefield ZAPS off.

					BASHIR
			The preliminary examination indicated
that the subject died of a massive
			respiratory failure, brought on by
the pulmonary trauma suffered in the
			fire.

					KAJADA
Are you sure it's the same body?

					BASHIR
				(a little surprised
				at the question)
Quite certain. It's been sealed in
			here ever since our arrival.

She picks up a small laser penlight, looks in his eyes...

					KAJADA
Have you run a retinal imaging scan?

					BASHIR
			What for... ?

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 11/25/92 - ACT ONE 8.

9 CONTINUED:

					KAJADA
To confirm there is no residual
			activity in the visual cortex...

					BASHIR
Miss Kajada, I assure you he is
			dead...

					KAJADA
He's faked his death more times than
I can tell you, Doctor. The last
time someone thought he was dead,
they didn't live to regret the
			mistake.

She looks around the workstation and casually picks up a
	long, narrow-tipped tool.

					BASHIR
			He was a murderer... ?

					KAJADA
			That description doesn't do justice
to the horrors he is responsible for
			on my world.
				(beat, studying him)
He is quite brilliant in his way. A
man of science. Who killed others
to prolong his own life. I've tracked
			him for twenty years.

A beat. Then, Kajada takes the tool and plunges it down in
Vantika's chest. Bashir reacts with shock.

					KAJADA
				(calmly)
Please perform an autopsy. I want
his identity confirmed with a DNA
			reference scan.

					BASHIR
				(still shaken)
			Of course.

					KAJADA
And have someone scan my ship to
make sure there are no anomalous
			life forms on board...

					BASHIR
			Are you sure that's necessary?

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 11/30/92 - ACT ONE 9.

9 CONTINUED:	(2)

					KAJADA
			Very sure.

On her determined look... Bashir reacts and...

10 INT. QUARK'S

On Quark's hand as QUARK places a cup of iced coffee on the
	bar.

					QUARK
			Iced Raktajino. Extra cream.

	Pull back to take in...

11 THE WHOLE BAR

DAX takes the cup of Klingon coffee.

					DAX
			Thank you, Quark.

					QUARK
				(smitten)
At your service. Day or night.

Dax smiles slightly and walks away with her coffee. Quark
watches her go with a lascivious eye.

					QUARK
				(an aside)
			Poor woman. She's obviously
			infatuated with me.

ODO snorts in derision from his usual seat at the end of the
bar. A few yards away, within earshot is LIEUTENANT PRIMMIN,
a Starfleet security officer in his mid-thirties. He has a
friendly face, an easygoing smile and a passing resemblance
	to a teddy bear.

					ODO
			You're deluding yourself.

					QUARK
There's nothing wrong with a good
delusion. I sell them upstairs to
			dozens of people every day.
				(beat)
			Besides, there's something in her
eyes when she looks at me.

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 11/25/92 - ACT ONE 10.

11 CONTINUED:

					ODO
			An allergic reaction, no doubt.

					QUARK
			I think she's lonely.

					ODO
Dax? She has ten lifetimes of friends
to call on before she calls you.
And every man on the station would
like to be buying her a Raktajino.

					QUARK
Ah, but I'm the one with the Raktajino
			machine.

					ODO
She seems to prefer to spend most of
her time alone... which I understand
			perfectly.

					QUARK
Well, then that must make her the
			perfect woman for you.

					ODO
I wouldn't intrude on her privacy as
			some would.

					QUARK
			You're pathetic. You think everyone
in the galaxy should be as lonely
			and miserable as you are.

Quark looks longingly at Dax, who has taken a seat at one of
the tables and is reading from a PADD and sipping her coffee.

					QUARK
As hard as it may be for you to
understand, some of us like company.
The sound of a friendly voice. The
			sight of a familiar face.
				(stares hungrily at
				Dax)
The feel of smooth, pliant flesh.

	Quark is almost drooling.

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" - 11/25/92 - ACT ONE 11.

11 CONTINUED:	(2)

					ODO
				(re: Dax)
			Why do you bother?

					QUARK
			It's good to want things.

					ODO
			Even things you can't have?

					QUARK
			Especially things I can't have.

					ODO
				(casual)
			Like the Deuridium shipment?

					QUARK
				(not a blink,
				"innocent," new game)
			Deuridium shipment. Is there a
			deuridium shipment coming here?

					ODO
			I'm watching you, Quark.

Moving away... staying with Quark a beat... still looking at
	Dax across the room...

					QUARK
				(sighs, to himself)
			And I'm watching you, Jadzia.

12 ANGLE - OVER HIS SHOULDER

At Dax as she looks up and makes eye contact with Quark...
and it's that quick moment with a woman that takes your breath
away... she smiles and looks back down at her PADD...

13 ANGLE - QUARK

feels his heart jump to his throat... as we move to find
Primmin moving to join Odo just before he exits...

14 CLOSER ON ODO AND PRIMMIN

					PRIMMIN
			Interesting technique.

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 11/30/92 - ACT ONE 12.

14 CONTINUED:

Odo pauses to see who's addressing him.

					PRIMMIN
Do you always get ready for an
			important operation by leaking word
about it to the local black market?

Odo looks at Primmin with disapproval.

					ODO
The way I handle my business is none
			of your concern.

	Odo EXITS. Primmin follows.

15 INT. PROMENADE - CONTINUOUS - MOVING WITH THEM

					PRIMMIN
			I'm afraid it is.

Primmin tries to keep up with Odo.

					PRIMMIN
				(continuing)
			Lieutenant George Primmin. Starfleet
			security.

	No response from Odo.

					PRIMMIN
If you don't mind, I'd like to talk
to you about the deuridium shipment
			from the Gamma Quadrant.

					ODO
We have nothing to discuss. Security
			is already in place.

					PRIMMIN
I'd appreciate it if we could go
over it anyway. It took me three
weeks to get here. I'd hate to think
			it was for nothing.

					ODO
				(begrudgingly)
If you insist. Meet me in my office
			at seventeen hundred hours.

Odo walks away... Primmin studies him a beat...

16 INT. OPS

SISKO, Kira, Dax and Bashir are conferring.

					BASHIR
The autopsy revealed nothing out of
			the ordinary. Fingerprints, cerebral
			cortex scan, and retinal patterns
all match up perfectly with the
			records Kajada provided. Vantika
may have faked his death before, but
			I don't think he's faking this time.

					SISKO
			Why was he coming here?

					BASHIR
				(self-evident)
			They're Kobliad.

					DAX
				(understands
				immediately)
			The deuridium.

					KIRA
			I'm sorry... ?

					SISKO
The Kobliad is a dying race. They
			need deuridium to stabilize their
			cell structure. It prolongs their
			lifespan...

					DAX
			The Federation's been working to
supply them with deuridium, but even
the new deposits from the Gamma
Quadrant won't be enough to service
the whole population. It's so scarce,
some of the Kobliad have gone
			underground to get it.

					KIRA
So he was coming here to hijack the
			shipment.

					SISKO
Is Kajada satisfied with your autopsy?

					BASHIR
			I don't think anything's going to
			convince her he's dead, Commander.

In a way, they were as intimately

			be.

					SISKO
				(a thoughtful beat)
Let's do her the courtesy of granting
her requests as long as they're not
too far out of line. A quick sweep
of her ship isn't too much to ask.

Dax nods and Sisko rises signaling the meeting is ending...

					SISKO
I'm more concerned that he might
have had help waiting here to hijack
			the shipment.

Over the last line, Primmin is arriving on the Turbolift...
	as Sisko sees him...

					SISKO
Mister Primmin, good. In my office.
I need to brief you on an unusual
			security issue that's been raised...

					KIRA
				(protecting her own)
			I'll get Odo up here...

					PRIMMIN
				(reacts)
Ah... that's okay, Major. I'll fill
him in later on anything he needs to
			know.

He moves toward Sisko's office. Kira doesn't like Odo being
cut out of the briefing, looks to Sisko for a response.
He's noticed Primmin's attitude, but chooses not to give her
one... moves after Primmin into his office.

					SISKO
				(beat)
			But...

					PRIMMIN
Frankly, isn't the security of a
deuridium shipment a little over his
head... I mean he was chatting about
it in the bar with that Ferengi
Quark... if I could overhear it, so
			could half-dozen others...

					SISKO
It's hard to keep a secret in a place
like this, Lieutenant. It's not a
			starship...

					PRIMMIN
			I understand that, but...

					SISKO
I'm sure almost everyone knows about
the shipment by now. Odo was probably
making sure Quark knows we know he
			knows.

					PRIMMIN
				(too chummy for a
				subordinate)
Well, it's not how we learned it at
the academy, is it, sir. If you
			want my opinion...

					SISKO
			Actually, I don't.
				(beat, off Primmin's
				take)
You and I are guests of the Bajorans,
Lieutenant. You don't have to forget
what you learned at the academy...

					BASHIR
				(exasperated)
			Kajada, our best evidence suggests
			Vantika stopped thinking two days

					KAJADA
				(calm)
He's alive. And he's on board this

					PRIMMIN
Even if he was alive, it doesn't

					ODO
			It makes perfect sense.
				(off reactions)
Try to access the single file and

					KAJADA
But you would never consider locking

					KIRA
				(suggestions)
The lighting controls or maybe the

	Revealing Dax and Bashir studying...

					BASHIR
			In another brain... ?

					DAX
			Possible?

					BASHIR
			The closest thing I've encountered
			is synaptic pattern displacement.
But that's never been done by a non-
			Vulcan.

					DAX
I'm convinced Vantika was working on
it... there are over seventy different
			computer simulations in his file...
			all involve identifying neural energy

					BASHIR
There'd be plenty of room... a

			of the brain.

					DAX
So what if another entity shared the
			unused portion...

					BASHIR
				(realizing)
			Hypothetically, Vantika's

					SISKO
It doesn't make sense. She's been

			attention to himself?

					DAX
			We're not suggesting he's controlling

					BASHIR
Look, this is all theoretical, but
to extend the logic, there's no reason
to believe she would even be aware
			of his presence...

					DAX
Like a stowaway on a ship... the
pilot is still at the helm, but
someone else is along for the ride.

	Sisko considers this.

					SISKO
Would an examination of Kajada confirm

					BASHIR
We don't know what we're looking for

			Kobliads don't have psychic abilities

					BASHIR
If we can find it, that might give

And she storms out... Odo muses a beat...

33 INT. QUARK'S SECOND FLOOR

It's late. The place is closed. In the shadows of the second
floor, a meeting is taking place between Quark, Durg and the
two Bajorans. But our attention quickly is drawn to the
third floor... where an unseen figure moves in shadows to
	overhear the conversation...

					DURG
So when do we meet this Kobliad...

					QUARK
			When he decides it's appropriate...

					DURG
All right then, a better question --
			when do we get paid...

					QUARK
When the job is completed of course...

The figure moves out of the shadows into a streak of light
	on the stairwell... it's Kajada...

34 ANGLE - ON QUARK ET AL

					DURG
Not acceptable. We will require an
			advance payment of seventy percent.

					QUARK
Durg. Wake up. This is Quark, you're
			talking to. Remember.

					DURG
All past debts have been settled.

					QUARK
			They'll never be settled. You'd
still be rotting in a Cardassian
			jail if I hadn't...

Suddenly a woman's scream... they jump up and look over their
	heads to see --

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 11/30/92 - ACT THREE 32.

35 ANGLE - KAJADA

hanging from the third floor railing... a beat later her
grasp slips and she falls past them all the way to the bottom
	floor...

	On Quark's startled reaction, we...

									FADE OUT.

	FADE IN:

36 INT. INFIRMARY

Close on Kajada is laid out on an examining table half buried
in medical machinery. She is semi-conscious, but barely
	coherent.

					BASHIR
			Can you speak... ?

					KAJADA
				(quietly)
			Pushed. Vantika.

That's all she can say, move up to find Sisko, Quark, Odo...
Bashir shakes his head to Sisko...

					BASHIR
I can't keep her conscious any
longer... if she moves around too
			much, she could suffer permanent
			paralysis...

	Sisko nods.

					SISKO
Did you see anybody behind her?

					QUARK
				(shakes his head)
I just heard the scream and looked
up... she fell from the balcony...
what was she doing up there anyway?

					ODO
She had an odd feeling you might be
			helping someone hijack this deuridium
			shipment.

					QUARK
			I resent the inference.

					ODO
			It's not an inference. It's a
			definite suspicion.

					SISKO
Was there anyone else in the bar?

					QUARK
			Anyone else?

					SISKO
At the time of the accident.

					QUARK
No. No. Just me. Just tidying up.
Which if you'll excuse me, I really
			must finish...

	EXITING together --

					ODO
Not so fast, Quark. I want to take
a look at that third floor before
you get rid of all the evidence.

					QUARK
Be my guest. I'm telling you she
was alone up there... and she had no
business invading the privacy of a
			law-abiding member of the community...

	And they're out.

					SISKO
				(to Bashir)
What do you think, Doctor? Could
this have been a suicide attempt?

					BASHIR
I didn't notice any indication of
			suicidal behavior... but who knows
what the effect of... sharing one's
			brain might be?

					SISKO
				(frowns)
I'd still like some confirmation of
			that.

					BASHIR
I'll have to tend to her injuries
before I can conduct any brain
scans... but until we identify the
			transfer method Vantika used, I'm
not even sure what to look for.

	He nods to Bashir, EXITS...

37 INT. STASIS ROOM

Close on the dead hand of Vantika... as Dax uses a small
instrument to run under his fingernails and pull out some
residue... Sisko arrives in the background, reacts to the
	odd scene...

					SISKO
			Find something under his fingernails?

					DAX
			Not yet.

					SISKO
			What were you looking for?

					DAX
Confirmation of a theory. I hope.

She puts the tiny dirt sample on a 24th century Petri dish...
and moves to a small work station with microscopes and other
equipment one would use in autopsy work... during the above
	action --

					DAX
I've been asking myself why anyone
would want to induct a bio-electrical
			charge into a glial cell?

					SISKO
				(dry)
			A question I've always wondered
			about...

					DAX
It might make sense if you wanted to

My guess is that's what Vantika was
			trying to do...

					SISKO
			Using his fingernails?

During the following, Dax brings up and adjusts the Okudagram
of the sample on the monitor...

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 12/02/92 - ACT FOUR 36.

37 CONTINUED:	(2)

					DAX
Frankly, I can't think of another
way he could have delivered the bio-

coded message. He must have used a
very weak electrical charge, or the
sensors on Kajada's ship would have
detected it. Ideally, he would have
			injected the coded message directly
into his victim's skin... but there
were no hyposprays or needles anywhere
			on the ship.

Dax's eyes light up. She shows Sisko her monitor.

					DAX
			A microscopic generator.

38 ANGLE (OPTICAL)

Sisko looks at the Okudagram. It shows a very small device,
buried in the material from under Vantika's nails.

					SISKO
			You're suggesting he had his
			consciousness stored in that thing?

					DAX
				(nods)
His neural patterns encoded as bio-
			electrical pulses. He could have
placed that device under his nail
months ago... just in case he needed
an escape route in an emergency.
			His last resort before death.

					SISKO
Will this show up in Kajada?

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 12/02/92 - ACT FOUR 36A.

					DAX
Now that we know what to look for,
we should be able to confirm it with

					SISKO
Do it as soon as Bashir stabilizes
			her condition. Nice work.

	He EXITS...

39 INT. PYLON CORRIDOR

				(to another)
And that won't mean a thing if any
of the power waveguide outlets fail...
			double-check them...

	He acknowledges... Odo arrives...

					ODO
You better make this the final

				(she acknowledges)
			Where's Primmin?

					KIRA
I thought he was with you.

					ODO
I sent him to help you with the final

					KIRA
He hasn't been here all morning.

	Off Odo's curious reaction...

40 INT. CORRIDOR TO RUNABOUTS

Quark leads Durg and the Bajorans...

					QUARK

					DURG

					QUARK
His message said he would be waiting

Quark presses the door panel... it doesn't open...

					COMPUTER VOICE
			Secured area, access to security

					QUARK
Seven... seven... let me see... that

47 INT. CORRIDOR

					ODO
What the hell are you doing in there?

					PRIMMIN
I took a cue from you...

					ODO
			From me?

					PRIMMIN
You understood the logic of Vantika's
M-O when he downloaded the computer

			attack the system...

					ODO
			I'm not following.

					PRIMMIN
Vantika has to know that all of our
security efforts will be focused on
the docking ring. I figured if he
holds true to form that's not where
he'd try to hurt us... so I ran a
diagnostic of all systems that could
shut our whole defense array down...

					ODO
I already did that twice today...

					PRIMMIN
			I know. I didn't find anything
either. But then I went to the back-
up systems and I found a glitch there
			I couldn't explain... so I tracked
it back to the waste reclamation

think to look because it's considered
			non-essential...

He holds out a tech device...

					PRIMMIN
			I found this.

					ODO
			Another subspace crossover shunt.
Just like the one Vantika used to

					PRIMMIN
It was set to feedback into the

					VANTIKA
				(controlled panic)
			Hailing us... ?

	Thinking a beat...

					VANTIKA
			Engage engines, full impulse...

					DURG
We're not going anywhere with a

					VANTIKA
			Do it!

					DURG
			Full impulse engaged. The tractor

					VANTIKA
His body is... how do you humans say

					SISKO
				(angry, impatient)
What have you done to his mind,

					VANTIKA
				(calm)
It was necessary to render him

			However, I might consider leaving

But first you must release your

					SISKO
			I can't do that.

					VANTIKA
If you don't, I'll take this vessel

					SISKO
The tractor beam would rip your ship

					VANTIKA
Exactly. So if you care at all about

					SISKO
				(to the group)
			Suggestions... ?

					KIRA
A small ship like a Runabout might

					ODO
But you'd be risking a hull breach...

					SISKO
He's right... we can't risk releasing

				(beat)
Dax... is there any way to disrupt

Moving to her station and already beginning to work...

					DAX
I have an exact model of Vantika's

On the next pad is a hi-tech disk-shaped piece of equipment.
Dax takes a deep breath and adjusts the controls.

					DAX
			I've programmed the Transporter to
isolate any glial cells with Vantika's
			neural patterns... and beam them
			from Julian into this micro-
			containment field...

66 ANGLE - TRANSPORTER PAD (OPTICAL)

Bashir's head partially DEMATERIALIZES while the beams flicker
	over the disk.

					DAX
				(continuing)
Once they're out... Julian should be
			back to normal...

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 12/02/92 - ACT FIVE 50A.

66 CONTINUED:

When the process is complete, Bashir is as he was... and the
indicator lights on the disk flash in a complex pattern.

Odo and Sisko flank Bashir. Dax approaches and scans his
	head with a tricorder.

					DAX
			I'm only reading human neural
			patterns... he's clear.

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 12/01/92 - ACT FIVE 51.

66 CONTINUED:	(2)

She gives him a hypo... his eyes open slowly...

					BASHIR
			I... have... the worst headache...

	Off Sisko and Dax's smile...

67 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

	The Norkova is gone.

68 INT. INFIRMARY

Sisko, Dax and Bashir with Kajada about to leave. Bashir is
still shaken from the experience... none of the usual
	lightness in his attitude...

					KAJADA
Doctor Bashir... I'm so sorry for
			this...

					BASHIR
I guess... we should have listened
to you when you said he was alive...

					KAJADA
There was no way for you to control
what he was doing to you...

					BASHIR
			I'm afraid... I don't even remember
			it... I feel quite... humiliated
			actually...

Dax moves to take his arm and comfort him... he appreciates
	it...

					SISKO
			No one blames you, Doctor.

					KAJADA
It wasn't you... it was... that.

Motioning toward the energy containment cell.

					DAX
What do you intend to do with it?

DEEP SPACE: "The Passenger" REV. 12/01/92 - ACT FIVE 52.

68 CONTINUED:

	A beat.

					KAJADA
May I assume you've returned custody
of the prisoner to me, Commander
			Sisko?

					SISKO
The prisoner. What's left of him.

					KAJADA
			Good.

69 ANGLE (OPTICAL)

She calmly raises her phaser (she's a security officer so
its okay for her have one) and fires it at the containment
	device... it disintegrates...

70 KAJADA

doesn't smile... just holsters her weapon, nods to the others
	and EXITS...

71 ON REACTIONS

72 EXT. SPACE - DEEP SPACE NINE (OPTICAL)

And off the station, turning ever-so-slowly...

									FADE OUT.
