[Open on a truck repair place "Dillard's Auto Service," the sign says. Pan over to a truck. A title legend at the bottom of the screen reads "Pleasant, Arizona." We focus on a man working under the truck. His nametag says "Jesse." He gets out from under the truck as he sees a vehicle approach. It's a bus; all the people in it are singing a religious tune. Everyone outside watches as the bus pulls up in front of the market, Elva's Corner Market, across the street. The people get off the bus and continue singing. They all look very happy.]

People getting off bus: Safe and secure from all alarms. Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

[They walk into the store where a woman stands at the counter paying for her things. She nods goodbye to the shopkeeper and then gets the hell out of there, shielding her child as she makes her way through the crowd of people. The smiling man in the front, Seth, approaches the counter.]

People: What a blessing this. What a peace is mine. Leaning on the everlasting arms.

[As they all file in behind Seth, he hands the shopkeeper a piece of paper on which is written the things that they need. As they move to the back of the store and the shopkeeper goes to get the things they need, the men from the truck stop enter, looking kind of pissy.]

People: Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

[Jesse Dillard picks up a canister of something and shoves Seth, letting the canister fall to the ground. Seth and the others just keep smiling and singing.]

Jesse Dillard: Excuse you. Are you gonna pick that up?

People, highlight on Seth: Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way.

Jesse: Hey! [He snaps his fingers] Hey! I'm talking to you. What, are you deaf? Or you just tone deaf?

People: Oh, how bright the path...

[The shopkeeper walks by Jesse on the way back to the counter. Seth follows him back.]

Shopkeeper: Jesse, not in my shop, please.

Jesse: Not in your shop? They wouldn't be in your shop if you refused to serve 'em.

Shopkeeper: No.

[Jesse stands next to Seth at the counter]

Jesse: You know what they're doing up there on that compound.

Shopkeeper: No, I don't. Neither do you.

Jesse: Aw, you just don't wanna know.

[Jesse reaches into the box of Seth's groceries and retrieves a roll of duct tape. He waggles it about in Seth's face, who is still singing.]

Jesse: Hey, hey!

Seth: Why to dread...

[Jesse shoves him in the arm]

Jesse: Osama Bin Ghandi.

[He drops the tape on the counter]

Jesse: What do you need that for, huh?

[He picks up an extension cord and hefts it about]

Jesse: Or this? Hmm?

[He hits Seth in the chest with it. The shopkeeper looks increasingly peeved]

Jesse: Look at me!

Seth: Leaning, leaning...

Jesse: Look at me when I talk to you!

[Jesse grabs Seth and slams him into a display]

Shopkeeper: All right, all right, enough! Get out of my store, Jesse.

[The sheriff, Sheriff Phil Brigham, enters]

Sheriff Brigham: Trouble?

Shopkeeper: No.

People: Leaning, safe and secure from all alarms.

Shopkeeper: No trouble.

[Seth bows his head to the shopkeeper and approaches the counter again as Jesse exits. He pays the shopkeeper and happily collects his change. They head out.]

People: Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms. Leaning, leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms.

Sheriff: It's weird.

Shopkeeper: Their money spends just fine.

Sheriff: It's not so much the singing as it is the smiling. What do you figure that's all about?

Shopkeeper: Maybe they're just happy, Phil.

Sheriff: Yeah, maybe.

[The shopkeeper fumbles with the list Seth handed him. He flips it over to find a message on back. "SAVE ME." The sheriff and the shopkeeper look on after the group.]

[Cut to Echo and others doing yoga]

Senator Boxbaum, in voiceover: Happy? No, this is something quite apart from happiness. Call it a kind of bliss, an unquestioning serenity. True happiness requires some measure of self-awareness.

[Cut to Adelle Dewitt's office, where she and the Senator are meeting]

Senator Boxbaum: We're talking about people here who have their very wills taken away.

Adelle Dewitt: Imagine such a thing.

Senator: The irony of bringing this to you, Adelle, is not lost on me. I promise you.

Adelle: It's not the irony that concerns me. You're asking me to place an Active with a federal agent.

Senator: Indirectly, yes.

Adelle: I don't wish to be vulgar, but one of the many benefits of having you as a client is that you help us avoid entanglements with federal agencies. Senator.

Senator (chuckling): It's the ATF. You been running guns? Besides, your Actives won't be working with the government. One of your security guys would liaise. Your Active you would be perfectly safe.

Adelle: In a fanatical religious cult.

Senator: Adelle... This is an election year.

Adelle: Ah.

Senator: I got the family value voters on the right, the women's issues constituency on the left all coming after me if anything untoward is going on behind those compound walls. The ATF is convinced there is. Now, we have a very narrow window on this warrant. If the government sends in some wet-behind-the-ears Quantico undercover graduate, these people are gonna know about it. I need the real thing. I need a true believer.

[Cut to Loomis and Agent Paul Ballard walking down the hallway in the FBI offices]

Loomis: I can't help you.

Paul Ballard: You're the only one who can.

Loomis: Aren't you supposed to be shot?

Paul: I lived.

Loomis: I see that. Shouldn't you be recuperating?

Paul: Come on, Loomis. You scan the face, you look for a match. Computer does all the work.

Loomis: Have Carter run it through NCIC.

Paul: I already did that.

Loomis: And you didn't get a match?

Paul: Nothing.

Loomis: Well, I don't know what you expect me to do.

Paul: We both know your clearance rating opens up databases Carter can only dream about.

Loomis: Then you know I've got plenty of faces to scan for people much more impressive than you.

[He smiles with his eyes at her]

Paul: But not as charming.

Loomis: Was that flirting?

Paul: I think so. It's been a while.

[Paul makes a face and holds his side]

Paul: Did I mention I was shot?

[Loomis grabs the file and walks away. Paul smiles after her.]

[Cut to Dominc and Adelle walking through the main floor of the Dollhouse]

Laurence Dominic: I don't like it.

Adelle: Good, it's your job not to like it, Mr. Dominic, but Senator Boxbaum is more than just a valued client. He's a well-placed asset. Denying his request would have a steeper downside than acquiescing.

Dominic: It's not the job. I'm confidant Langton can handle the ATF. It's Echo. Her field response has been wildly erratic lately.

Adelle: She's demonstrated a... talent for adaptability, which is precisely what is required in this instance.

Dominic: They shouldn't be adaptable. They should be predictable. If Alpha didn't teach us that much...

Adelle: You don't like Echo, do you, Mr. Dominic?

Dominic: It's not that I don't like her. It's sometimes I worry you do.

Adelle: Your objections have been noted, thank you, Mr. Dominic.

[Adelle walks away]

[Cut to Echo pulling her shirt back on in the infirmary. Dr. Claire Saunders is sitting next to her. Adelle walks in, shutting the door behind her.]

Adelle: Hello, Echo.

Echo: Hello.

[Cut over to see Topher Brink at the computer]

Echo: I had an exam.

Adelle: That's good. Would you like to have some lunch now?

Echo: I would.

[Echo heads to the door]

Dr. Claire Saunders: She shouldn't eat. Not before the surgery.

Adelle: Echo...

[Echo stops]

Adelle: ...why don't you go have a massage?

Echo: A massage would be relaxing.

Topher Brink: If she were any more relaxed, she'd be ooze.

Adelle: So, it's doable?

Claire: It's... experimental... and highly invasive.

[Claire goes to the computer where Topher is, standing across from him]

Adelle: But doable?

Topher: The actual procedure isn't much more complicated than laser eye correction. (to Claire) It ain't brain surgery.

Claire: Actually, it I brain surgery. We're going to be turning Echo into a human camera, and in order to do that, she's going to have to be made blind.

Topher (to Adelle): Not permanently.... In theory.

Adelle: So, this is it?

[Adelle leans over to look at Topher's computer screen]

Topher: Yes, uh, the latest in CSEVP.

[We see a staticy video of Topher and Adelle in front of the computer on the computer screen]

Topher: Cortical stimulation for evocation of visual perception.

Claire: Brain camera for the blind.

Topher: Or that.

Adelle: And this is what she'll be seeing?

Topher: Well, this is what the feds will be seeing...

[Back to the fuzzy cam]

Topher: ...only less clear once we get it inside of Echo. We'll be using her eyes as lenses. The image will bypass her own cortex and be broadcast directly back to the ATF. Echo herself will see no evil.

Claire: There have been instances of this technology causing aneurysms and, in one case, death. It's possible one good sneeze could being on a seizure.

Topher: Or even worse-a sneezure.

Adelle: The risks have been determined to be within the acceptable margins. How soon can she be ready?

Claire: I'll need 24 hours.

Adelle: Good. Clock starts now. Thanks.

[Adelle exits, leaving Claire looking highly pissed]

[Cut to the exterior of a little house. The title legend at the bottom of the screen says "6 MILES OUTSIDE PLEASANT, ARIZONA." Cut inside to an Agent Lilly (who musts be cool; he's wearing an earring) holding a mug shot of Jonas Sparrow.]

Agent Lilly: This is our target. Calls himself Jonas Sparrow. Real name: Nathan Allan White.

[He passes the pic around and we see that he is speaking to many other agents, all of whom have "ATF" written on their jackets]

Lilly: 36 years of age, he spent most of those years in federal prisons. Last time he was inside Sparrow claimed a conversion experience. Upon release, he joined up with the Zion Ranch. Formed a splinter group. They grew in number... and set up shop here.

[He goes to a bulletin board with pictures and a map on it. He points to it.]

Carlos: What kind of shop?

Lilly: Given Sparrow's history, it could be anything from gun running to human trafficking. One thing I can promise you: he is not up at that ranch putting hay in a manger.

[Everyone is chuckling except for one man in an orange sweater. Hey! It's Boyd Langton!]

Lilly: Our problem has been we haven't been able to show cause for a warrant. Until now. Sparrow never leaves the compound himself. But once a month, he sends some minions into town to buy supplies. They go in groups to watch each other. Well, someone wasn't watching closely enough, because one of the faithful managed to scribble this on the back of a shopping list.

[Lilly holds up an evidence bag containing the list with "SAVE ME" written on the back]

Lilly: "SAVE ME." These two words have opened a crack in the door. A very small crack. A judge has agreed to let us do a sneak-and-peek. We have 48 hours to show cause for further action. Then the door shuts again.

Female ATF Agent: 48 hours to penetrate a closed group? To gain their confidence, to get inside?

Lilly: I'd like you all to meet Boyd Langton. Private contractor recommended to us by Senator Boxbaum. He's been vetted at the highest level. I'll let him tell you what he does.

Boyd Langton: Hi, so, what I do is I work with an extraordinary young woman.

[Cut to Echo getting a massage as Boyd continues talking]

Boyd: She's not a law enforcement officer. She's not an undercover agent. She's just a girl. She's going to help us.

[Dominic comes to retrieve Echo]

[Cut to Boyd]

Boyd: Her name is Esther Carpenter, and she knows these people. She knows them like she knows herself.

Carlos: What did she escape from a cult?

Boyd: No.

[Cut to Echo lying on a table. She' got a device over her eyes and there is equipment around. Sharp things. A gloved hand picks one up.]

Boyd: She didn't escape from anything.

[Boyd]

Boyd: Esther's talent is not in getting out, but getting in.

[Cut to a drill heading straight for Echo's eye]

Boyd: And because of this talent...

[Topher putting together her imprint. We pan from his screen to a screen with Sparrow's mug shot.]

Boyd: ...because of who she is, that is what she will do. She will not arrive there a stranger or an intruder.

[Pan from the mug of Sparrow to another screen that is creating a digital model of Sparrow's head]

Boyd: She will walk through the gates of the compound...

[Boyd]

Boyd: ...and she will be accepted as one of them.

Female ATF Agent: How?

Boyd: Through a miracle.

[Cut to a flare on the lens from the bright sun we're seeing. Cut to Echo/Esther riding in the passenger seat of a car Boyd is driving. Her window is open.]

Echo/Esther: I can feel the sun. We're headed south now. You made the turn. It means we're getting closer. I really want to thank you for going out of your way.

Boyd: It's not as far out of my way as you might think. I admire your courage. Hitchhiking across country.

Echo/Esther: Because I'm blind?

Boyd: Nah, 'cause you're a girl.

Echo/Esther: I'm a girl?! Wow, I've been blind longer than I thought.

[Boyd smiles]

Echo/Esther: Do I hear a smile?

Boyd: You do. So, you weren't always blind?

Echo/Esther: No, the Lord saw fit to take my vision when I was nine.

Boyd: The Lord, huh? And you don't blame Him?

Echo/Esther: Blame Him? No, I praise Him. Saul of Tarsus made it all the way to Damascus after he was struck blind, and he became a new person.

Boyd: You want to become a new person?

Echo/Esther: More than anything.

[Boyd stops in front of a gate]

Echo/Esther: Are we here?

[A hand grasps the chain link fence]

Boyd: I think so. There's a gate. It looks like it's open. I could walk you there.

Echo/Esther: No, thank you. I made it this far. Is the path close?

Boyd: Open the door; you'll step right on it.

[She opens the door but turns to place a hand on his shoulder]

Echo/Esther: Thank you. And God bless you.

[Echo/Esther feels her way out and uses her cane to feel about in front of her. There is a boy watching her from the gate. As she gets closer, more people begin got notice and make their way toward the gate opening. There is a very prominent "KEEP OUT" sign posted there. She walks in.]

Echo/Esther: Hello?

[A tall black man, crosses through her path, intent on something]

Echo/Esther: Hello?

[They move in behind her, loosely encircling her]

Echo/Esther: Please... I know you're there.

[A man, Sparrow, holding a shovel and a rag approaches her. He stares at her as she brings her hand to him. She moves it up his shoulder her to his face, which she feels.]

Echo/Esther: Jonas Sparrow. I'd know your face anywhere.

[Opening Titles]

[Open on an establishing shot of the FBI building where Paul Ballard works. Cut inside, where Paul is on the phone.]

Paul Ballard: You broke in. Okay. So then here's what I want you to do: bring the drugs to this address. You ready?

[Loomis approaches and stands by his desk]

Paul: 9000 Temple Street. Downtown. I'll see you then.

[He hangs up. She lookin' at him like he crazy!]

Paul: That was my neighbor. I forgot my pain medication at home. She's gonna run it town here for me. Please tell me we've made some progress

[Loomis apologetically presents him with a file, letting it drop to his desk]

Loomis: Sorry. I tried every biometric I know. Your Caroline doesn't exist. I'll leave it active and in the system, at least for now. If I get any hits off the face recog, I'll let you know.

[She walks away, leaving him to stare frustratingly at the file. He takes a large envelope with Caroline's picture attached from the file. He stares at the pic.]

[Cut to Sparrow, still standing outside with Echo and surrounded by everyone]

Sparrow: Esther Louise Carpenter. From Raymond, New Hampshire.

[We pan over to reveal that he is reading her license, which he is holding up next to her face. He then wave his hand in front of her face. She does not respond for obvious reasons.]

[We then see this motion from Echo/Esther's point of view on a fuzzy monitor. It's in the ATF setup where Boyd is.]

[Cut back to Sparrow]

Sparrow: A blind hitchhiker. And you got all the way here by yourself?

Echo/Esther: I was led. By God.

Sparrow: And was that God in the car that dropped you off?
[Could I add that Boyd Langton would play a great God, never mind a great Obama? Moving on.]

[Echo/Esther laughs quietly]

Echo/Esther: Just one of his instruments.

Sparrow: Who told you about this place, Esther Louise Carpenter?

Echo/Esther: You did.

Sparrow: I've never seen you before.

Echo/Esther: But I've seen you. You appeared to me in a vision. You spoke to me. You said a place had been prepared for me. You told me to walk out my door, to not be afraid. You said, "Come to your brothers and sisters at the Temple." You said I would be carried here... as if on the wind.

[A tear leaks out of her eye and falls down her cheek. Meanwhile, all the people are listening intently to her.]

Echo/Esther: And then you took my hand...

[She puts her hand to his face]

Echo/Esther: ...and you held it to your face...

[He puts his hand over hers]

Echo/Esther: ...so that I would know it.

Kris: Praise be to God.

People, muttering praises all at once: Amen. Hallelujah. Praise be to God.

Sparrow: Amen.

People, all at once: Praise be to God. Amen. Amen. Hallelujah.

[Everyone is muttering praises as Sparrow leads Echo/Esther inside, every following around and behind them]

[We tilt and pan up and over to set our sights on the little ATF headquarters setup house thing. We cut to a guy (who's so wearing FBI gear and NOT ATF gear) standing outside holding binoculars. He speaks on his talkie. We cut to the inside of the HQ.]

Man (over radio): They're taking her inside.

[Lilly turns to look at Boyd then back at the screen]

Lilly: As advertised.

[Cut inside the compound, where Echo/Esther is getting led by a girl. We then see Sparrow talking to Seth.]

Seth: "We shall make a new garden and fresh buds will flower there." It's happening.

Sparrow: If she is what she says she is.

Seth: What else could she be?

Sparrow: Brother Seth, I've told you how we must protect this garden. There are those who would seek to destroy it; you know that.

Seth: Yes.

Sparrow: We are commanded to test all of the signs. If a serpent should enter, we must crush it underneath our heel. You understand that?

Seth: Yes, Jonas.

Sparrow: We must keep the garden pure.

[Cut to the Dollhouse showers. We see Victor washing himself. Sierra enters, placing her towel over the side. She turns to Victor, walking to the shower next to his.]

Sierra: Hello.

Victor: Good day.

Sierra: The water is warm.

Victor: Yes.

[As Sierra wets her hair, running her fingers through it, Victor stares at her, looking at her body.]

Sierra: It feels nice.
[Victor is still staring]

Victor: Yes, it does.

[He looks even more interested]

Victor: It feels...

[He suddenly looks down to his own privates, evidently very surprised by what he sees there. He looks up in mild wonderment.]

Victor: ...nice.

[Cut to Topher on the headset phone with an unknown person in his lab. In the middle of his sentence, he glances absentmindedly up at the screen showing the Dolls in the shower. Something peculiar about Victor catches his eye.]

Topher: For my money, the Valsalva mechanism is really the way... w-way to go. Hey!

[He stares in awe and horror at the screen]

Topher: I got to go. Something came up.

[He clicks off his headset]

[Cut to Claire's office. She's looking at a book. She looks up when we hear Topher's voice.]

Topher: Doctor?

[Topher enters, looking visibly unsettled. He stands there for a second, unsure of what to say.]

Claire: Topher?

Topher: Hello.

Claire: Hello.

Topher: So listen. Here's the thing. I was looking, glancing... I noticed... Victor.

[He holds his arms and hands out in a hopefully indicative manner]

Claire: You noticed Victor.

[Claire puts the book back on the shelf]

Topher: Mm-hmm. In the shower, and he's... naked.

Claire: Victor's naked in the shower.

Topher: Right. Anyway, he seemed to be having a kind of... man reaction.

Claire: A what?

Topher: A, you know, reaction that a man person might have in the... you know, the... naked part. Shower. Victor.

Claire: Victor had an erection?

[He takes in a quick, sharp breath, making a pointing motion in her direction]

Topher: I prefer man reaction.

Claire: Why?

[He shrugs]

Topher: This is a problem. This can't happen. It shouldn't happen.

[Claire goes to a shelf full of large files]

Topher: When they're in their Doll state, there's a limp... ness.

[She grabs a file off of it]

Claire: Well, I warned about something like this.

Topher: When?

Claire: His last engagement was with Miss Lonely Hearts.

Topher: So? That shouldn't matter. I mean, okay, it was a romantic engagement, but he was wiped.

Claire: This is the eighth time he's had that exact imprint.

[She goes to her desk with the file]

Claire: I've cautioned against repeated imprints in the same Dolls, haven't I?

Topher: I don't know.

[He goes to stand across from her at the desk, pointing to the file]

Topher: You put it in one of those reports?

Claire: Of course.

Topher: Okay! Well, nobody reads those.

[Claire sits down behind her desk, breathing in and exhaling loudly]

Claire: How many times has this happened?

Topher: I don't know. I wasn't looking for it.

Claire: Well, now you're gonna have to.

[She hands him the large file]

Claire: Let's start with the last three months of shower tapes.

Topher: We're actually gonna sit down and... look for the...?

[He looks at her funny]

Claire: Man reactions.

[We go off his rather stunned face]

[Establishing of the compound. Inside, a woman with frizzy hair, Kris, is introducing Echo/Esther to people. She's running her hand over their faces.]

Kris: This is Sister Emma.

Echo/Esther: Hi.

Kris: Sister Annabelle. Mm-hmm.

Echo/Esther: Hello.

Kris: Oh, this...

[She turns her around and guides her hand over to a tall man wearing suspenders]

Kris: ...is Iliya.

Iliya: Hello.

Echo/Esther: Hello, Iliya.

[He helps her guide her hand to his cheek]

Echo/Esther: It's a pleasure to meet you. And what a handsome face.

[Iliya laughs]

Iliya: Thank you.

Kris: Iliya was with us at the Zion Ranch in Texas.

[Echo/Esther moves her hand to his chest]

Echo/Esther: You were unhappy there.

Iliya: Things happened there that should not have happened.

Kris: Jonas led us out of that place.

Iliya: He saved us.

[Seth approaches]

Seth: Esther, Jonas would like to see you.

Echo/Esther: Hmm.

[She smiles and goes off with Seth]

[Cut to the ATF HQ. They are all watching the staticy screens. They are looking to get facial stills to use for identification. An ATF agent grabs a picture of a girl from the printer.]

Carlos: Another female, approximately 29 years of age. Let's tag her femme eight.

[A second ATF agent tacks the pic onto a board that is filling up with pictures]

Second Male ATF Agent: Could be Andrea Parker from Florence, Texas.

Boyd: You have some names?

Lilly: A few. Been watching these people a long time.

Boyd: Any idea who our cry for help came from? Be nice to know who our ally on the inside is.

Lilly: Yeah, it would be, but we can't presume any allies.

Female ATF Agent: Damn it.

[She is looking at blank screens]

Lilly: What happened? We lose our signal?

Female ATF Agent: The signal's still there. I'm just not getting...

[The picture flares back, a bright, eerie light is being shined into the lens]

Female ATF Agent: What the hell?

[We move in on the screen with the light and pull out on the real light. It is from a flashlight that Sparrow is shining in Echo/Esther's eyes.]

Sparrow: I'm gonna ask you some questions, Esther, and I want you to be truthful with me, okay?

Echo/Esther: Of course.

[He continues shining that light into her eyes, looking into them]

Sparrow: You work for the government?

Echo/Esther: What?

Sparrow: The federal government-did they send you here?

Echo/Esther: No. Of course not.

Sparrow: And you're not with law enforcement of any kind?

Echo/Esther: No.

[Echo/Esther's eye is taking up the entire screen. There is no reaction in her pupil to the constant light. He is not satisfied. He sighs.]

Sparrow: Hmm.

[Sparrow straightens up and reaches in front of his face just above eye level. He has grabbed a string and a light pops on above them. While most of the room is still in darkness, it is revealed that Seth is also in the room.]

Sparrow: I wanna believe you, Esther. I want to believe everything you say. It's a beautiful story... but the serpent also had a beautiful story and the woman was deceived, and the man was corrupted, and they were forced to leave the garden.

Echo/Esther: I don't understand.

[Sparrow walks over to a surface behind him.]

Sparrow: I do not come into this garden a pure being, Esther.

[He is retrieving a gun and bullets from the surface]

Sparrow: I come to it the way Adam left. Broken.

[He loads a bullet into the gun, which marks the word "broken" with a "click"]

Sparrow: Corrupted. [Click] Impure. [Click] But those whom I shelter-they are not corrupted it. They have not walked in the world the way I have. They have not seen the things that I have seen.

[The cylinder is full and he clicks it shut]

Sparrow: And against this world they are defenseless.

[The gun clicks again. Sounds like he's cocked it.]

Sparrow: So I will protect them. And any who seek to harm them, to foul this garden...

[He comes up to her fast, pointing the gun at her forehead]

[Cut to Boyd and the other agents. They look concerned.]

[Sparrow and the gun]

Sparrow: ...shall fail.

[Echo/Esther hasn't reacted much at all]

Echo/Esther: Iliya told me that you saved them. All who are here are blessed.

[Cut to the agents looking at the screen]

[Back to Sparrow. He looks at Seth, and lowers the gun. He sighs, crouching down in front of her.]

Sparrow: Welcome to the Temple.

[His hand rests on her leg. She goes to place her hands on top of his, but he pulls his away. He is standing to her side.]

Sparrow: Esther. She who was born for a time such as this.

[He covers her eyes with his hand and places a kiss on the top of her head]

Sparrow: Welcome.

[His hand is resting on her forehead. She raises her hand to take his, but again he moves it away. She feels around for it for a second before she realizes it has completely left her space. He has gone. She looks around to Seth, who leans into the light to look into her eyes himself. For the first time, we see the rest of the room. It is decked out with weapons.]

Echo/Esther: He is a great man.

Seth: Yes.

[Echo/Esther turns her gaze toward him, allowing the agents to see the many munitions. They have a clear picture of the stuff.]

Carlos (to Lilly): You getting this?

Lilly: Oh, yeah. I'm getting it. That's an arsenal.

[We see more and more stuff. We cut to Boyd's concerned face.]

[Go to black]

[Open on Paul sitting at his desk. Mellie appears. And, yes, she's totally holding a casserole dish.]

Mellie: Paul?

Paul: Mellie. Hi.

Mellie: I hope I got here fast enough. You're not in a lot of pain, are you?

[He stands as she comes to his desk]

Mellie: Oh, here's your prescription.

[She hands him the bag]

Mellie: Also, some leftover manicotti.

[She presents to him the completely intact, not-at-all-leftover manicotti. He smiles.]

Paul: Thank you.

[He takes it from her]

Paul: I really appreciate this.

Mellie: Oh. No big, I've been meaning to come down here anyway.

Paul: You've been meaning to come down to the Federal Building?

Mellie: Well... you know. Oh, uh, some guy in the hall asked me to give you this.

[She hands him an envelope with his name written across it in Sharpie]

Paul: Some guy in the hall?

Mellie: Yeah, I was asking directions, and he heard me say your name.

[Paul picks up the envelope from earlier, the one with Caroline's picture attached. He compares the handwriting on the envelopes. It's so a match.]

[Cut to Paul and Mellie in Loomis' office. Paul is leaning over Loomis' shoulder, while Mellie stands behind him. Loomis has the envelopes in front of her.]

Paul: I'm right, aren't I? Both were written by the same person.

Loomis: Give me a second.

Paul: And no postmark on either one.

[Paul turns to Mellie]

Paul: Mellie, describe again the man who gave this to you.

Mellie: Uh, sure, he was maybe mid-20s, um, not overly tall.

[Loomis is opening the new envelope]

Mellie: Cute, brownish hair.

Loomis: Did he have a cart?

Mellie: A cart?

[Loomis is removing with a letter opener a CD from the envelope]

Mellie: Uh, yes, yes, there was a cart there. I remember that.

[Loomis puts into the disc drive]

Loomis: Was there mail on the cart?

Mellie: Uh, yeah, a lot of mail.

Loomis: Little Stevie from the mail room. Short, cute, brown hair. Too lazy to walk to your desk.

Paul: Oh. Well, that little bastard.

Loomis: Still, though, you're right: the handwritings match, so whoever sent you the photo sent this to you, too.

[Loomis clicks play and the video of Caroline at college from the pilot comes to life on her screen]

Caroline (on video): Okay, hi, Mom. Are we done?

Man (on video): Is there anyone you want to say good-bye to? (The subtitles on Hulu say this, but I don't hear it. Anyone catch what's being said?)

Caroline (on video): Oh, and the girls from Sigma Tau. Sisters forever.

Mellie: Wow, the photograph didn't really do her justice, did it?

Caroline (on video): Let's hope those venereal diseases make you all sterile, you snobby-ass pack of hoes.

Paul: This is real. I mean, this is who she was-just a girl.

Loomis: Just a girl with a potty mouth.

Caroline (on video): Yeah, I probably should have thought about that.

Paul: Someone wanted me to see this.

[He grabs a pencil and a pad]

Paul: Can you roll it back?

Caroline (on video): Uh...

[Loomis rolls it back]

Caroline (on video): Ditra and Meg, life without you will be meaningless and bleak, my dormies.

[Mellie, who has been growing increasingly uncomfortable and unnoticed, speaks up]

Mellie: Okay, well, uh... I should probably get going.

[Paul does not look up from what he's doing]

Paul: Okay, thanks again, Mellie.

Caroline (on video): Let's hope those venereal diseases make you all sterile, you snobby-ass pack of hoes.

[Mellie leaves]

[Cut to Topher fast-forwarding through a Victor shower video in his lab. Claire is there with a clipboard next to him.]

Claire: Let's roll that back, please. I believe I spotted a tumescence at 3:21:04. Tell me what you think.

[Topher rewinds]

Topher (sighs): Yeah, it's not oak, but it's on its way to wood. Are we done?

Claire: Go to Wednesday the 23rd, please.

Topher: You know, I could burn these and you could just take them home.

Claire: Go back. There.

[She points at the screen, he rewinds]

Claire: Mm-hmm. Wait, freeze that.

[She points again]

Topher: I will not.

[Claire sighs. She moves to get a better look.]

Claire: Of course. If it'd been a snake.

[Topher looks at her]

Claire: Please pretend I didn't say that. G-Go back to 17:57:09. Can you zoom in to his face? Now jump to 24:25:14.

[The images move as she commands him to move them]

Claire: Freeze. Well, I guess that rules out Miss Lonely Hearts. I-It's not residual imprinting; it's her. It's Sierra.

[She indicates Sierra on the screen]

Topher (sing-songy): What?

Claire: It only happens when she's there, and it started not long after she arrived. She's the new element that's been introduced to his environment, the catalyst to his physical response.

Topher: He likes her.

Claire: Yeah.

[Cut to ATF HQ. There is general radio chatter in the background. Lilly is showing an ATF agent a schematic.]

Lilly: When we breach, forward team here.

[Boyd is listening]

Lilly: We need to secure that arsenal.

[Boyd approaches Lilly]

Boyd: You're going in now?

Lilly: Soon as my warrant comes through. Just waiting on the judge.

Boyd: Then I need to extract my associate.

Lilly: Sure. Why don't you go knock on the door, let 'em know we're coming? Are you nuts? Your girl stays put. She's my eyes in there.

Boyd: She served that function. She's provided enough evidence for you to keep your case alive. Now I would like to do the same for her. In my judgment, this action is premature.

Lilly: Your judgment? Look, I was told not to be too interested in where you and the girl really came from. No problem, I'm not. What I interested in is putting Nate White-or Jonas Sparrow or whatever he's calling himself this week-back where he belongs... for good this time.

Boyd: You know this guy.

Lilly: Yeah, I know him.

Boyd: No, you know him.

Lilly: Huh. You used to be a cop. Me, too. Twelve years, Laughlin PD, and back then, he wasn't calling it a church and they were mostly underage girls. We put him away for what was supposed to be forever. Forever turned out to be just shy of two years. Some judge decided he didn't like the way we handled the evidence. So when this judge calls... I'm not waiting.

[Cut to Boyd outside in his car. He's on the phone.]

Boyd: This is Langton. I need your okay for a forced extraction.

[Cut to Dominic in the elevator]

Dominic: Echo-she's glitching on a government job. Damn it.

Boyd (over phone): Echo is fine. She's performed perfectly within parameters.

Dominic: Then what's the problem?

[Boyd]

Boyd: Agent Lilly. He's about to release the hounds of hell on that compound.

[Dominic]

Boyd (over phone): Echo's imprint will not have prepared her for this.

Dominic: Do nothing.

[Boyd]

Boyd: What?

[Dominic]

Boyd (over phone): If you're worried about a glitch...

Dominic: No extraction.

[Boyd]

Dominic (over phone): Authorization denied.

[The phone connection clicks off. Boyd beeps his cell phone off. He's not happy.]

[Cut to armed ATF agents creeping around the edge of the compound. Inside, Sparrow is surrounded by everyone in the chapel.]

Sparrow: In our book, the story of Esther is a story of a woman. Her father died when she was still in her mother's womb. Her mother died in childbirth.

[Cut to the ATF Echo-view screen. They're all watching.]

[Cut to the ATF's on the perimeter]

[Cut to Sparrow]

Sparrow: What was so extraordinary about the Esther of the Book was her unique vision. She could see things no one else could. This was the essence of the Esther of the Book-her ability to... penetrate secrets, to pierce the darkness, to find truths others could not. Our Esther, it seems, is no different. She says I appeared to her in a vision.

[Everyone laughs]

Sparrow: All right. You all know me. You know that I make no special claim to revelation. I'm just a man, weaker than most, but my faith is not weak, and I see this place and all of you through Esther's eyes-her amazing eyes, which see things no one else can-that faith is only strengthened. Brother Seth, would you bring our sister forward?

[Seth goes to Echo/Esther]

Seth: Sister.

[She takes his hand and walks to Sparrow. She stands in front of Sparrow.]

Sparrow: Esther Carpenter, are you prepared to forsake the world of men, to give yourself, your life, your fidelity, and your industry to your brothers and sisters of the Temple?

Echo/Esther: I am.

[He makes the sign of the cross over her forehead]

Sparrow: Return to the garden. A new beginning.

[Everyone rises. Shots of people hugging Echo/Esther are interspersed with shots of the ATF guys are still making their way into position. Suddenly, one of the ATF guys hooks his foot on a trip wire. Bright lights flash on outside with loud metallic clicks. The people inside are frightened. Sparrow sees the agents outside.]

Sparrow: Nobody move.

[He goes to a box and flips a switch, shutting off all the lights inside. He and Seth run off.]

[Cut to the HQ]

ATF Agent (over radio): The grounds were rigged. The floods got tripped; we're made.

Another ATF Agent (over radio): Copy that breach, team blue. (Maybe? No subtitles for that one.)

[Sparrow is hurrying down the stairs to a cellar, flashlight held high]

Seth: Jonas?

Sparrow: Seth.

[Seth comes into view down the steps. Sparrow starts pulling out guns.]

Sparrow: I need you with me.

[Seth puts on a gun]

Seth: I'm with you, Jonas.

Sparrow: Come on.

[They go up the stairs]

[Cut to the Lilly. He's on the radio.]

Lilly: Hold your positions. Do not breach. Maintain perimeter.

[Back inside the compound]

Sparrow: Brother Seth, guard the window.

Echo/Esther: What's going on? I don't understand.

[Sparrow is making a beeline for Echo/Esther]

Echo/Esther: What's happening?

Sparrow: Was this you? Did you bring them here?

Echo/Esther: I don't understand.

[Sparrow slaps her hard across the face]

[The camera in the HQ suddenly goes staticy and then blank]

[Cut to Echo/Esther lying on the floor. Sparrow jerks her to her feet. He's holding her by the shoulders.]

Sparrow: Did you do this? Did you bring the wolves to our door?

[Kris tries to break Echo/Esther free of Sparrow]

Kris: Jonas, no, she's our sister.

[He pushes Kris away and whirls Echo/Esther out of her reach]

Sparrow: Stop it. (to Echo) The truth this time, Sister.

[He brings his hand up to slap her again. But she stops him fast, catching his wrist in her hand. Everyone gasps. She looks powerfully at him.]

Echo/Esther (breathy): It's a miracle. I can see.

[Meanwhile, all the screens at HQ are fuzz]

Female ATF Agent: We're blind.

[Cut to a very concerned looking Boyd]

[Go to black]

[Open on an exterior of the compound. Two ATF guys are looking at it through the shade of a tree.]

Man (over bullhorn): This is the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Friearms.

[Cut inside where they are sitting hunkered on the floor, Seth and Sparrow with their weapons. Iliya is peeking out the window.]

Man (over bullhorn): The compound is completely surrounded. For your own safety, come out with your hands in the air.

[Sparrow bangs his head against the wall where he's sitting. Kris and Echo/Esther are holding hands.]

Kris: This is worse than Zion Ranch. Why does he have guns?

Iliya: We have to trust him.

[Seth sits down next to Jonas]

Seth: Jonas. You must speak to them... to your people. They're afraid.

[Sparrow stares at Echo/Esther]

Sparrow: Do you believe it, Seth? Do you believe in her?

Seth: I don't know. I don't know what to believe. We took her into the dark; you put the light in her eyes. There was nothing: no physical reaction, no change. How do you fake that?

Sparrow: And yet she sees.

[Sparrow limpy-crawls over to Echo/Esther. She looks nervous.]

Sparrow: Esther. Those men outside-I know you didn't bring them. I know you were telling me the truth. They have come to destroy us, the raze the garden and to salt the Earth.

[Kris is beginning to cry]

Sparrow: Esther. Before I looked into your eyes, and I saw nothing, and so I believed. And I look into them now... and I need to know... was this a miracle?

Echo/Esther: I was blind, but now I see.

[Kris is smiling now]

Sparrow: Then you were brought here for this purpose: so that I might know what to do.

[He kisses her hand]

Sparrow: And now I do.

[Cut to Boyd and Lilly walking about in the trees, which seems to be the new base]

Lilly: You've got no way at all to communicate with her?

Boyd: No, I really don't.

Lilly: So my inside man is worthless is what you're telling me.

Boyd: She was never your inside man.

Lilly: Oh, she's just another one of them? Fine. That's how she'll be treated.

Boyd: Look, you do have someone on the inside-whoever sent up that cry for help. We should try to put a name to that, then at least maybe we can form a strategy.

Lilly: We are not going to do anything. You are not a part of this, not anymore.

[Just then, the media shows up in its big vans]

Lilly: Oh, great.

[Sparrow and the baby birds in the compound. They're all in a circle around him and his gun.]

Sparrow: It is true. Below us is a cache of weapons Brother Seth and I have hidden there in the event that this day should ever come. I prayed it would not, but I always knew that it would. The darkness cannot abide the light. And yet I now believe my prayers were answered. Esther was sent to us in advance of these men-a demonstration of God's power. So you will not take up arms. You will not have to. Come with me.

[He gets up, indicating that they follow]

[Cut to the Bureau. Paul is munching on chips from a bag of indiscriminate branding. He walks to the TV, where a small crowd has gathered.]

Female Reporter: We now take you to our affiliate KPJK with this breaking news.

Male Reporter: A religious cult know as the Children of the Temple.

Paul (to the person next to him): What's up?

Male Reporter: This was the scene today in Pleasant, Arizona...

Person next to him: Waco 2... maybe.

Male Reporter: ...where agents from the Bureau of Alchol, Tobacco, and Firearms surrounded this remote compound. Attentions here are high with the presence of the armed agents. The cult leader was seen moving from one building to another. He's wanted by federal authorities on unspecified charges.

[While this little report is given, Ballard is watching the video of Sparrow and the others running from building to building. Suddenly, Echo/Esther comes running across the screen. Paul looks, unsure of what he's seeing. They show a better shot of her. Paul stares, amazed.]

[Cut to an establishing of Elva's Corner Market. Inside, the friendly shopkeeper from the beginning is talking to Boyd as he fiddles with some chore or something.]

Shopkeeper: I didn't see who wrote the note, now, it could have been any one of 'em. There was a bit of a mishegas going on up at the front of the store at the time.

Boyd: What kind of mishegas?

Shopkeeper: Well. Jesse Dillard-he's a mechanic across the way there. He followed 'em in here and he tried to, uh, provoke a thing there.

Boyd: Why?

Shopkeeper (chuckling): Well, I mean, they are kind of odd, you know.

[He takes the box he was emptying and sets it on the counter]

Shopkeeper: But, uh, you know, there's been a lot of rumors about what's going on up there at that compound. Now, I never believed any of 'em until I saw that note.

Boyd: Anyone check the security tape?

Shopkeeper: Well, nothing was stolen and nobody asked.

[Boyd looks perplexed]

[Cut to an Carlos pointing to a piece of paper laid out on a car. Lilly is next to him.]

Carlos: We think he's moved everyone into this outbuilding here.

Lilly: No, that's not where he's got the guns stored.

[Boy approaches, standing behind Carlos]

Lilly: Still, doesn't mean he can't get to them. There could be tunnels, underground access.

Boyd: If there were tunnels, why didn't he use them to move his people? Why herd them out in broad daylight?

[Lilly and Carlos look kind of peeved that he poked holes in their brilliant theory]

Lilly: Will you give us a moment, Carlos?

Carlos: Yeah.

[Carlos walks away with the papers]

Lilly: Okay. You want to go in there and get your girl? I'm open to letting you do that. Under a couple of conditions.

[Boyd slams him up against the car]

Boyd: How about these conditions? You stay the hell out of my way and maybe I won't tell anyone it was you.

[Lilly jerks his arm free of Boyd's grip]

Boyd: You knew he sent his people into town once a month.

[Boyd holds up a surveillance photo of Lilly in the store]

Boyd: You were waiting. You ginned up tempers. Started rumors in the town. Created a diversion, and then you wrote that note. That's how you got your warrant. Nobody ever asked to be saved. Not by you.

[Go to black]

[Establishing of the compound]

[Cut inside to find everybody in chapel. Sparrow is comforting a very distressed Seth.]

Sparrow: You're witnessing the wonders of the most high, Brother Seth. Do not lose faith. Now go. Go.

[Seth goes outside. Sparrow approaches Echo/Esther with a Bible.]

Sparrow: Esther? Can you, uh, read? Sight-read?

Echo/Esther: It's been a long time. I was nine. Yes.

[Sparrow hand her the Bible opened to a specific passage]

Sparrow: Read that for us.

[Sparrow indicates that everybody assume praying positions]

Echo/Esther: "Then... Nebuchadnezzar ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter than normal...

[Cut outside to Seth creeping about with his gun]

Echo/Esther: "...and commanded the strongest soldiers in his army to throw Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego into the fiery furnace...

[Seth grabs up a can of gasoline]

[Cut to Lilly and Carlos]

Carlos: We got movement on the grounds.

Lilly: They're coming out?

Carlos: Just one guy.

Lilly: Is he a black guy?

[Cut into the compound]

Echo/Esther: "...the furnace was so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took them up...

[Echo/Esther realizes that what she is reading is not good]

[Cut to Seth, who brings the empty can of gasoline to the gas tank on the bus]

[Cut to Echo/Esther]

Echo/Esther: "King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his men...

[Seth siphoning out the gas]

Echo/Esther: "'Weren't there three men that we tied up...

[Echo/Esther]

Echo/Esther: "...and threw into the fire?'

[Seth]

Echo/Esther: "And the King's men replied, 'Certainly, O King.' And the King said, 'Look!...

[Echo/Esther]

Echo/Esther: ..."'I see four men walking in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.' Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted,...

[Seth, covering the compound in gasoline and lighting a flippin' match]

Echo/Esther: ..."'Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the most high God, come out!'

[Seth throws the match into the gas. The flames start to grow.]

Echo/Esther: "So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire, and the King saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies,...

[Echo/Esther]

Echo/Esther: ..."nor was a hair on their heads singed.

[At this point, everyone inside the compound is looking about nervously]

Echo/Esther: "Their robes were not scorched and there was no smell of fire upon them."

[As she finishes the passage, Seth reenters the compound]

Sparrow: We have witnessed more than one miracle these last days. Prepare yourselves for the next.

[Kris stands up, terrified]

Kris: No, no, no! I-I want to leave.

[She starts to run. Sparrow stops her.]

Sparrow: Kris! Kris, wait! Everyone, wait. Lose your faith, and you will perish. Those flames can't hurt us. They'll protect us. Only the unrighteous will be consumed.

[People are beginning to cry. Sparrow soothes Kris.]

Sparrow: It's okay. Come. Sit.

[She regains her seat. He turns to Echo/Esther.]

Sparrow: Thank you.

[Cut to the whacky ATF Agents]

Carlos: Fire seems to be contained to our target building.

Lilly: No. This might be a provocation. They might not even be in there-trying to draw us out. All right. Fire gear. We move in. Same pattern. This is not a rescue operation-not yet. We're still here to serve a warrant.

Carlos: Yes, sir.

[Carlos brings his talkie to his mouth]

Lilly: That security consultant-Langton. I think he might have been working with Sparrow.

Carlos: The security consultant?

Lilly: Yeah. He may be our fire starter. If he's gone in there, we take him down.

[Cut to ATF Agents using big-ass metal cutters to cut through the lock on the gate. This leads to masked agents lining the perimeter.]

[Cut to Boyd, along the adjacent wall. As an ATF agent comes around, Boyd takes him out with a hard left punch. He pulls the body out of sight.]

[Cut inside the compound. The people inside are coughing from the smoke. It's too much. Echo/Esther appeals to Sparrow. She goes to him.]

Echo/Esther: Jonas. Jonas, you have to let them leave here. You have to tell them to!

[Sparrow stands up and takes her aside]

Sparrow: Esther, where is your faith?

Echo/Esther: This isn't right. You can't force a miracle.

Sparrow: "And he saw that the flames did not harm their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed, and there was no smell of fire upon them."

Echo/Esther: These people are gonna die from smoke inhalation before the flames...

[Sparrow backhands her across the face. She falls back and everyone gasps.]

Sparrow: If that's what God wants. You pray.

[He turns to his flock]

Sparrow: Let us pray.

[They all knee and close their eyes. Echo/Esther suddenly rises from behind him. She grabs a heavy candlestick from the table and strikes him in the head with it. Everyone gasps.]

Echo/Esther: Go!

Seth: Esther!

Echo/Esther: What is wrong with you?! You people are dying!

[Seth runs to Sparrow]

Seth: What have you done?!

Echo/Esther: Start taking these people out of here! He swore to protect them! If he won't, we have to. Seth.

[She crouches down to him]

Echo/Esther: The blind girl is looking you in the eye. Do you know what that means? It means God brought me here. He has a message for you. And that message... is "MOVE YOUR ASS!" Go! Come on!

[Finally, everyone is getting out of the compound. Outside, they run to safety.]

ATF Agent (over talkie): They're coming out!

[The ATF agents aid the people in getting to safety]

[Cut inside where Sparrow is stirring. Echo/Esther is still trying to get the last people out. Iliya is still there, refusing to move. She goes to him.]

Echo/Esther: Iliya, we have to go.

Iliya: Where will we go?

Echo/Esther: I don't know, but outside is life. In here... no.

Iliya: How can you doubt after God restored your sight?

Echo/Esther: Iliya, I don't think God let me see again so I could just watch.

[Illiya spits in her face]

Iliya: Our home is gone.

[Echo/Esther wipes off her face and then slaps him across his]

[Cut outside where the others are still running to safety. Seth runs back inside to get Iliya.]

Echo/Esther: You got him?

Seth: Yeah. Come on, Iliya.

Echo/Esther: Okay, go! Go!

Seth: Come on!

[She's about to follow them out when she hears a gun cock behind her. She turns to see Sparrow rising from the ground.]

Sparrow: "And he commanded them to purge the evil from their midst."

[As he raises his gun to Echo/Esther, a masked someone comes into the doorframe, firing off several shots from an automatic. Sparrow goes down and will not be getting up this time. Echo/Esther turns to her defender. He removes his mask. It's Dominic! He's all evil grins.]

Dominic: Our trouble ends here.

[He knocks her across the face with the butt of his gun.]

[Go to black]

[Open on the fiery flames consuming the compound. Pan down to see a very unconscious Echo/Esther lying on the ground.]

[Cut outside where it is a crazy scene of paramedics, coughing people, ambulances, Agents, and flames.]

Lilly (to Carlos): Sparrow?

Carlos: We think he's still in there.

Lilly: Langton and the girl?

Carlos: I don't know.

Lilly: Pull your men back.

[Cut to Echo/Esther, who coughs as she awakes. It's really smoky in there. But somebody comes running in again! She looks up, breathing hard, into the face of this new masked man. It's Boyd! He removes his mask just to make sure we really know it's him.]

Echo/Esther: I know you. How is that possible?

Boyd: It's not.

Echo/Esther: I thought you were an angel.

[He smiles and it seems he's also taken off his mask in order to give it to Echo/Esther.]

[Cut outside to the chaos]

Lilly (to a reporter with a camera): Of course we won't stop until we're sure we've found everyone, but... the grim fact is we don't think there are any more survivors.

[Boyd chooses this perfect moment to walk his marvelous ass out of that burning building with Echo in his arms. The reporters all murmur and point their cameras at him. Lilly turns to see what they're all looking at. Boyd just keeps on walkin' away from the flames. Lilly looks down, realizing he's kind of a douche. He turns back to the cameras.]

Lilly: Thank God.

[Fade in to the scene the next morning. Lilly is surveying the damage. A car pulls up. It's Paul! He gets out and walks up to Lilly.]

Paul: You the AIC?

Lilly: I was.

[Paul sticks out his hand]

Paul: Special Agent Ballard. FBI.

Lilly: FBI. Little late to the party.

Paul: I see that. The people you took out of here-where are they?

Lilly: Being debriefed and then released.

Paul: Where?

Lilly: Look, another agency has a problem how this went down, you can take it up with my superiors. I'm not gonna hand you the knife.

Paul: What? No.

[He pulls the picture of Caroline out of his pocket]

Paul: I'm looking for this girl.

[He shows it to Lilly]

Paul: She look familiar?

Lilly: She could be anybody.

Paul: Look, unofficially, before you release these folks, just let me talk to them.

Lilly: I don't do things unofficially. Get a warrant.

[He walks off like the complete douche that he is. Paul is left standing there to revel in the wreck that is both the smoldering wood and his investigation.]

Adelle (voiceover): A place of safety, of untroubled certainty, of purity. This is the world we must maintain.

[Cut to the Dollhouse, where we see the Dolls doing yoga]

Adelle (voiceover): It is imperative that nothing disturb the innocence of life here.

[We pan up to see that Adelle is standing in Topher's office]

Adelle: Once any temptation is introduced, it will spread... like a cancer, and all will be infected.

[Topher, Claire, and Dominic are standing by. Adelle ascends the stairs.]

Adelle: Victor must be scrubbed and monitored closely.

[Cut outside to the hallway where Dominic and Adelle have just entered.]

Adelle: So, tell me, Mr. Dominic, how was Arizona? I understand it's a dry heat. You requisitioned a company jet last night.

Dominic: Echo was glitching on a government job. I felt I should be on-site in case measures were called for.

Adelle: I see.

Dominic: As always, just trying to protect your interests.

[She turns to look at him]

Adelle: I'm touched. (She's not touched)

[They turn the corner to the elevator]

Dominic: If I may, Echo has been exhibiting the same signs Alpha did before his composite event. Now, if you're not willing to send her to the Attic...

[Adelle has gotten onto the elevator and she is completely blocking his entrance]

Adelle: Don't gamble on what I'd be willing to do, Mr. Dominic. Take the stairs.

[He looks all pouty]

[Cut to Topher and Claire in the imprint lab. Echo has just been wiped and is rising up in the chair.]

Topher: Hello, Echo? How are you feeling?

Echo: Did I fall asleep?

Topher: For a little wile.

Echo: Shall I go now?

Topher: If you'd like.

[Echo gets up and leaves. Claire follows her.]

Claire: Echo?

[Echo turns to her]

Claire: How's your vision? Can you see okay?

[Echo goes to the railing and looks over. She looks over the Dolls doing yoga and then watches Dominic walk across the floor. She focuses on him.]

Echo: I see perfectly.

[She contemplates Dominic for a few seconds]

[All the little pictures bring us to black]
