SUMMARY: In a routine investigation of a body found at a public station,
everything goes haywire as they find that the body has been exposed to high-
levels of radiation. They follow the trail of evidence and find that the
intended victim has already ingested the radiation dosage and is unknowingly
dying. The team now works to find the killer before the victim dies.

COLD OPEN:
[EXT. VARIOUS MIAMI CITY LIGHTS (STOCK) -- NIGHT]
[EXT. CIGAR LOUNGE - NIGHT]
(Three couples stagger out of the Cigar Lounge. They walk down the sidewalk.)
MAN: Hey, hey! We're going down the block.
(They walk past Carl Aspen, a street-wise looking bald man, who turns and
notices them as they stagger by.)
(He steps out into the sidewalk and follows them.)
(Carl Aspen follows them down the sidewalk. He pauses when a police siren
blurbs on and off.)
(Carl Aspen turns and heads into the alleyway. He peers into a dark car. He
turns and sees a man walk by.)
CARL ASPEN: Hey, mister. Get over here.
CARL ASPEN: Hey! Come here!
(The man stops and turns to look at Carl Aspen. He takes off running. Carl
Aspen chases after him.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. SUBWAY - DAY]
(The Bald Man is dead face down on the ground. Horatio kneels next to him
looking at the body. Det. Bernstein walks down the station stairs toward
Horatio and the body.)
DET. BERNSTEIN: There's no witnesses. Nobody heard anything over the trains
running. Looks like a decade of skag and skin popping.
HORATIO: Yes, but it's not an O.D. There's no foam around his mouth and nose.
You see that? Mmm. Take a look at that syringe.
DET. BERNSTEIN: There's no blood in it.
HORATIO: That's right, and that's 'cause it's not a junkie syringe. Junkie
syringe is one cc, tops. That's ten; it's huge.
DET. BERNSTEIN: Maybe the guy is a glutton.
HORATIO: Maybe. Junkie or not ... somebody killed this man.

[EXT. VARIOUS MIAMI SCENES (STOCK) -- DAY]
[EXT. TRAIN STATION - DAY]
(Delko snaps photos of the body as Alexx finds the estimated time of death.
Horatio kneels nearby fuming the syringe.)
(Det. Bernstein steps close.)
DET. BERNSTEIN: We got a Carl Aspen. A long record. A few possession charges,
mostly assault and battery.
ALEXX: Looks like he got the battery this time. Lacerations on the face and
lip. I saw a couple of torn nails so I bagged his hands. May be able to get
some scrapings.
(Alexx turns the body over and uncovers a wad of cash.)
DELKO: Oh! Horatio.
(Horatio stands up.)
HORATIO: And what do we have there?
(Delko picks up the cash to count it.)
DELKO: It's damp.
HORATIO: Maybe from the substance inside the syringe. How much is there?
DELKO: $203.
HORATIO: Well, that rules out money as a motive. Alexx, do you have a time of
death?
(She checks the eyes.)
ALEXX: No corneal cloudiness. So, approximately an hour to two hours ago.
HORATIO: So, that makes it between 4:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. So, Carl here was
looking to score, needed money, but jumped the wrong person, didn't he?
(Horatio sees something.) Eric.
DELKO: What's up, H?
HORATIO: That's a pencil, isn't it?
DELKO: Yes, it is.
(Delko snaps a photo of it. He picks up the pencil to look at it.)
DELKO: Looks like it's been chewed up.
HORATIO: It's got teeth marks. Okay, let's process it for saliva and
epithelials.
DELKO: You got it.
(Delko stands up.)
SHORT TIME CUT TO:
[EXT. STATION - DAY]
(The coroner's wheel out the body bag on a gurney.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - FORENSICS LAB - DAY]
(Alexx uses a large syringe and takes a sample out of the victim's chest.)
(She puts the contents in a container and hands it to the tech.)
ALEXX: Screen this for opiates.
(The tech leaves. Horatio walks into the lab.)
ALEXX: Hey.
HORATIO: Hey.
ALEXX: I think I found the cause of death.
(Alexx shows Horatio the x-ray.)
HORATIO: Before you open him?
ALEXX: Cervical fracture. Looks like somebody snapped his neck.
(Quick flashback of: Someone has Carl Aspen by his neck. They twist his head
and snap his neck. End of flashback. Resume to present.)
HORATIO: Have you tested under his nails for skin?
ALEXX: Just about to.
(Alexx unbags the victims hands and finds the flesh eaten away.)
ALEXX: Wait a minute. His hand wasn't like this on the scene.
HORATIO: You think that's parasite activity?
ALEXX: Not like I've ever seen.
(Alexx dabs at the wound on the hand to get a sample.)
HORATIO: That's got to be a chemical burn, though, right?
ALEXX: But that would have presented immediately.
HORATIO: Alexx?
(Horatio grabs Alexx's hand to stop her from touching the victim's hand.)
HORATIO: There's only one thing I know that burns like that.
(Alexx realizes what it is and drops her knife. She steps away from the body.)
ALEXX: (fearful) Radiation. We can't stay here.
(They both back away from the body and edge to the door.)
HORATIO: Got to notify the team; they may have been exposed, too.
(Horatio hits the large red alarm button on the wall.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Speedle is looking through the microscope when the alarm starts blaring. He
looks up.)
[INT. CSI - HALLWAY - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Calleigh looks up at the red flashing lights.)
(She looks around as workers start heading for the exits.)
WOMAN: (over P.A.) We have an emergency situation. Please find the closest
exit, and evacuate as quickly and as safely as possible.
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Speedle gets up and heads out.)
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(A tech puts the sample in the mass spec machine, covers it and presses the
button. He heads out of the lab.)
[INT. CSI - CRIME LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Everyone is heading for the exits.)
[EXT. CSI - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Workers file out of the building and down the stairs.)
(Calleigh turns to the woman next to her.)
CALLEIGH: I don't think this is a fire drill.
[INT. CSI - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Delko opens the safe and puts an envelope inside. His phone rings. He answers
it.)
DELKO: (to phone) Yeah, I was just leaving. Checking up on me?
SPEEDLE: (from phone) Turn around.
(Delko turns around and finds Speedle standing just outside the cage.)
DELKO: (to phone) Why are you standing there? What's wrong?
SPEEDLE: (to phone) Listen, Horatio and Alexx found radioactivity on the
victim.
DELKO: (to phone) How bad?
SPEEDLE: Nobody knows yet. RMS are going to be here any second. They're
setting up a hot zone outside. So, hurry up, all right?
(They hang up.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - FORENSICS LAB -- DAY]
(Camera opens on the body on the exam table.)
ALEXX: (o.s.) It's eating through his flesh.
[INT. CSI - OBSERVATION ROOM - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Both Horatio and Alexx look at the monitor showing the victim's body on the
exam table.)
HORATIO: Odorless, tasteless and invisible.
(Quick CGI to: View of neutrons destabilizing an atom.)
ALEXX: (v.o.) Too many neutrons destabilize the atom. All those atoms ripping
apart, releasing energy.
(Camera zooms back and we see the victim's hand down to the bone.)
(End of flash. Resume to present.)
ALEXX: Makes you wonder what it's done to us.
HORATIO: Just hope it hasn't rearranged our DNA.
(The door downstairs open and a couple of people in radiation suits carrying
geiger counters walk into the forensics lab.)
(Horatio waves to them. They wave back.)
HORATIO: Here's Radiation Management.
SUIT GUY 1: Waiting for us?
HORATIO: You better believe it.
(Three suited people walk into the forensics lab. The geiger counter starts
clicking.)
SUIT GUY 2: Definitely have an air contaminant in here.
HORATIO: We think the hand is the source.
(Suit Guy 1 checks the hand and the click intensifies.)
SUIT GUY 1: Ooh, hot hand. Medium-level radiation.
(Quick CGI of: Particles are picked up by the hand-held microphone. End of
CGI. Resume to present.)
SUIT GUY: Let's make this sucker safe.
(The Radiation Management people put the contaminated hand into a container and
fill the container with a liquid from a coffee maker.)
ALEXX: What's in that coffeemaker?
DE SOTO (SUIT GUY): Cerrobend.
HORATIO: A soft-melting alloy.
SUIT GUY: Neutralizes the radioactive particles. Kind of like freezing it.
(He turns and looks up at Horatio.) We should get you two to scrubdown.
HORATIO: Roger that.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Horatio's on the phone. He and Alexx are wearing suits after being scrubbed
down.)
HORATIO: (to phone) Okay, let's get the CDC to quarantine the crime scene till
we know what we've got. Right.
DE SOTO: You're both negative for radioactivity.
HORATIO: Okay. So, that means we just need to contain the contaminated
evidence, right?
DE SOTO: And clean the dirty air. (He holds out the cannister.) This will
tell us if it's nuclear, medical, or right out of the ground.
HORATIO: Let me ask you a question. Could you administer radioactive material
by syringe?
DE SOTO: Radiation therapy for cancer patients. Attacks tumors.
ALEXX: Junkie mistook radioactive isotopes for pharmaceutical narcotics.
DE SOTO: Possible. It's not like it glows or anything. Syringes aren't marked.
A junkie could mistake it for anything.
(Quick flashback to: [NIGHT] Carl Aspen scrounges in a red backpack. He finds
the syringe.)
CARL ASPEN: What's this? Some grade-a smack? I just won the lotto.
(He squeezes the syringe and some of the liquid spurts out the needle. The
drops fall on this hand.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
HORATIO: All right. Let's go.
(The SUIT GUYS head out into the hallway.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. CSI - FRONT - DAY]
(The workers are standing behind the containment line. Delko stands up front
near the stairs. A couple of Radiation Management people in suits push a board
out.)
(One of the suited guys checks Delko.)
(Speedle and Calleigh watch from behind the containment line.)
SPEEDLE: Delko has definitely been exposed.
CALLEIGH: Yeah, but to what? I mean, there are hundreds of types of
radioactivity.
SPEEDLE: Well, it basically breaks down like this. Say you have a pencil,
right? You put that on your skin, that's going to wash right off 'cause it's an
alpha particle. It's low-level radiation. You have a pen, that's a beta
particle. Has more energy. That will sink into something. And then you got
gamma, which is totally toxic. Goes right through you. Burns you from the
inside out.
CALLEIGH: So, we don't know if it went on Delko, in Delko or through Delko.
(Quick CGI of: Close-up of Delko. Dissolves into an x-ray view of him. First
there's red particles.)
SPEEDLE: (v.o.) Alpha, ...
(Then there's yellow particles ... )
SPEEDLE: (v.o.) ... beta ...
(Then there's green particles. Camera moves around Delko as the particles
change color over Speedles voice over.)
SPEEDLE: (v.o.) ... or gamma.
(Camera stops. Image goes back to Delko.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
SPEEDLE: Delko could have inhaled that radioactivity off that money and not
even had a clue.
(Calleigh and Speedle watch Delko as they check him for contamination.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Horatio shows De Soto the syringe.)
HORATIO: So, maybe our vic jumped somebody who was delivering
radiopharmaceuticals.
DE SOTO: Any trained delivery guy would have handed it over and notified the
nuclear regulatory commission.
HORATIO: That would make sense, but I haven't heard anything from the NRC about
anything yet.
DE SOTO: So, you're looking for a thief who steals radioactive isotopes.
HORATIO: (nods) Mm-hmm. In syringe form.
(Quick flash of: A lock is being cut.)
HORATIO: (v.o.) The guy is a thief. He's going to take as many as he can.
(Cut to: A hand reaches out and grabs a handful of syringes.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
DE SOTO: Radioactive materials. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? You
thinking terrorism?
HORATIO: (shakes his head) I think the doses are too low. Come on, let me
show you the money.
(Horatio heads out.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Horatio punches in the combination and opens the safe. He takes out the
envelope of money.)
HORATIO: You ready?
DE SOTO: Yup.
(De Soto takes a reading. The URSA-II MCA reads:
Isotope Identified: I-131
Associated gamma peaks found at
30.41 keV
80.18 keV
364.5 keV
DE SOTO: Iodine 131 at the end of its half-life. Low-level radiation.
HORATIO: Okay.
DE SOTO: Your guy should be okay.
HORATIO: Good. I want to check the pencil first and then I'll get it back to
you, all right?
DE SOTO: Okay.
CUT TO:
[EXT. CSI - FRONT - DAY]
(Delko heads for Speedle and Calleigh.)
SPEEDLE: What's up?
(He ducks under the crime scene tape.)
DELKO: The guy said my exposure was equal to what a pilot gets on a flight to
Paris.
CALLEIGH: Well, next time, take the trip to Paris. It'll be easier on all of
us.
DELKO: Tell me about it. I heard radioactivity can cause temporary
infertility.
SPEEDLE: So, you and your girlfriend are temporarily in luck.
DELKO: Yeah, or permanently screwed.
(De Soto walks up to Delko.)
DE SOTO: Hey, heard you were worried about having children. (He hands Delko a
small hand-held unit.) This should keep you safe. The bell rings if you get
near radiation.
(De Soto leaves. Calleigh leaves. Speedle lingers.)
SPEEDLE: That was nice.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Horatio processes the pencil.)
(He puts it in a beaker of boiling water allowing the steam to clear off the
wood.)
(He takes the pencil out of the beaker.)
HORATIO: (reads) "B. King." Okay.
CUT TO:
[EXT. SIDEWALK - NIGHT]
(Det. Bernstein joins Horatio and Delko.)
DET. BERNSTEIN: It's Belle King. Practicing attorney. Specializing in
environmental law.
(They head for the front door.)
HORATIO: All righty.
(Det. Bernstein presses buzzer. Dogs inside the building start barking.)
BELLE KING: (o.s.) Who is it?
DET. BERNSTEIN: It's the Miami Dade police department.
(The door buzzes and Det. Bernstein pushes the door open. The dogs continue to
bark.)
BELLE KING: Let me see your badges.
(Det. Bernstein holds out his badge.)
BELLE KING: Okay.
(She turns the tape recording of the barking dogs off. Det. Bernstein, Horatio
and Delko walk into the office.)
BELLE KING: Sorry about that, but, uh, you can never be too careful. So, what
can I do for you, officers?
DET. BERNSTEIN: Belle King?
BELLE KING: Yes, that is me.
HORATIO: Ms. King, we have a warrant to search your premises.
BELLE KING: Well, whatever it is you are looking for my position is it's
covered by attorney-client privilege, work product included.
HORATIO: Well, we're not here to talk about your clients. We're Crime Scene
Investigators.
BELLE KING: I'm placing a call to the issuing judge.
(She stands up and takes the warrant from Delko.)
BELLE KING: Thank you.
(Suddenly, Delko's hand-held geiger counter beeps wildly.)
DELKO: Whoa. What the hell is ... ?
(He checks it.)
DELKO: Is that me?
HORATIO: It can't be you.
(Delko looks at Belle King and holds the geiger counter closer to her. It again
beeps wildly.)
SHORT TIME CUT TO:
[EXT. BELLE KING'S OFFICE - NIGHT]
(The Suited Guys sweep a stunned Belle King out of the office. They walk her
past Horatio and Delko standing out on the sidewalk.)
DELKO: (shocked) Ten times the level at the lab.
FADE OUT.
FADE IN.
[EXT. MIAMI CITY SCENE (STOCK) - DAY]
[INT. HOSPITAL - EXAM ROOM -- DAY]
(The doctors exam Belle King. She turns her head and through the glass, sees
Horatio talking with the doctor. He nods and thanks the doctor.)
(The doctor leaves.)
(Horatio turns and looks at Belle King. He smiles reassuringly at her, then
holds up his index finger. He mouths silently to her: One minute.)
(He leaves the observation room.)
(Belle King waits.)
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - WAITING ROOM - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Horatio steps out into the waiting room. Speedle and Calleigh stand up.)
SPEEDLE: What'd the doctor say?
HORATIO: The doctor said that we have a murder victim who has less than one
week to live, but she is not contagious. Okay, let's find Eric and tell him to
process the cash from the crime scene. It's safe to touch now. Calleigh, let's
go to Belle's home. Iodine 131 decays into normal iodine. That's what you're
looking for.
CALLEIGH: Iodine reacts to sulfur. I'll put some in my kit.
HORATIO: Put some in mine, too.
CALLEIGH: Okay.
(Calleigh turns and leaves.)
HORATIO: Speed, let's go to Belle's office and see if any of her enemies left
her a warning.
SPEEDLE: You got it.
HORATIO: Thank you.
(Speedle leaves.)
CUT TO:
[INT. HOSPITAL - EXAM ROOM - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Belle King sits on the exam table, a blanket wrapped around her. Horatio
appears in the open doorway and pauses a moment.)
(He walks into the room.)
HORATIO: (softly) Hey.
(She smiles at him.)
BELLE KING: No silver jumpsuit, hmm? I guess that means I'm ... I'm all
better.
HORATIO: Well, um ... you've actually ingested some isotopes. An isotope
called iodine 131.
BELLE KING: The stuff they use for cancer therapy?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm.
BELLE KING: But I haven't ingested anything. And even if I did ingest a little
bit of iodine 131, it wouldn't kill you.
HORATIO: Actually, you've ingested quite a bit of it.
BELLE KING: Well, how much?
HORATIO: It's my understanding that at these concentration levels ...
BELLE KING: (interrupts) How much?
HORATIO: Um ... roughly equivalent to what four patients undergoing radiation
treatment ingest in, say, a six-month period.
(She gasps in disbelief.)
(Quick CGI to: An X-ray view of the chest cavity with organs lined with green.
The image turns and as it does, we're given a visual time lapse of the green
permeating and infecting the organs, muscles and heart.)
(End of CGI. Dissolve to Belle King's chest.)
BELLE KING: Somebody's making a mistake. This ... this can't be true. I
didn't eat or drink iodine 131.
HORATIO: We think you were poisoned. Now, the doctor is coming in to ...
BELLE KING: (interrupts) How long?
HORATIO: We think you have about a week.
(She gasps.)
HORATIO: I'm sorry.
BELLE KING: Not even enough time for all my hair to fall out.
HORATIO: I'm sorry. Is there somebody I can call?
BELLE KING: Uh ... yes. My parents, my sister.
HORATIO: Okay.
BELLE KING: I'll call them. Never mind.
HORATIO: Now, I'm going to need to ask you some questions, too.
BELLE KING: Like who would want to kill me?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm. That would be a good place to start.
(She nods.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. - DAY]
(Belle King and Horatio step away from the vendor. She has a cup of what
appears to be ice cream in her hand that she eats absently as they talk.)
HORATIO: I'm going to need a list of your clients and any of the companies that
you filed suit against recently, and how about enemies.
BELLE KING: Well, that's a long list.
HORATIO: Did you meet with any of them yesterday?
BELLE KING: I met with Twin Creeks Power Plant. Just sued for plume
contamination. They hate me.
HORATIO: Did they bring you anything to drink?
BELLE KING: No. But, uh, I had coffee at my next meeting with a nuclear
weapons facility, Elkwood.
HORATIO: They bring you the coffee?
(They stop near the vehicle.)
BELLE KING: No, actually I got it from a vending machine, and if you keep
interrupting me, I'm never going to get through my list of enemies.
HORATIO: Go on.
BELLE KING: Right before lunch, I met with Risher Pharmaceuticals. They're
guilty of unsafe toxic disposal, misplaced isotopes, and - this is my favorite -
- confusing isotopes so patients are injected with the wrong dosages. No meals,
no drinks.
HORATIO: Not even a glass of water?
BELLE KING: I'd tell you. Nothing.
HORATIO: How are you feeling?
BELLE KING: Not very hungry.
CUT TO:
[INT. BELLE KING'S OFFICE - DAY]
(Speedle interviews the Office Worker.)
OFFICE WORKER: Yeah, we got threatening phone calls, stupid letters -- mostly
from other lawyers. Belle kicks ass.
SPEEDLE: Yeah, I've seen these articles. Does a lot of pro bono work, huh?
(Speedle looks at the issue of the Miami Glove. The headline reads: LEGAL AID
FOR CHICKENS AND JUICE. Article is by Ryan Blank, Staff Writer. There's a
photo of Belle King with a little boy in a wheelchair, the photo is by Samantha
Coy.)
OFFICE WORKER: She's helped a lot of people. Who would do this? Who is that
sick?
(Speedle puts the newspaper down and starts looking around the office. He walks
over to the filing cabinet and finds the drawer locked.)
SPEEDLE: Can you tell me what's in this drawer?
OFFICE WORKER: Personal stuff.
SPEEDLE: Well, do you mind unlocking it?
(The office worker gets the key and unlocks it.)
SPEEDLE: Thank you.
(In the back of the drawer behind the files, he finds an old chocolate heart-
shaped box. Inside are rolls of undeveloped film. He also picks up a camera.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. MIAMI (STOCK) - DAY]
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Delko works on processing the money. Just to be safe, he checks the geiger
counter. It doesn't beep.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. KING RESIDENCE - DAY]
(Belle King opens the gate. Walking around on the porch are chickens.)
HORATIO: Chickens?
BELLE KING: Yes. That's Mary Ann, Linda and Jean.
HORATIO: You supply the neighbors with eggs?
BELLE KING: People pay me what they can.
HORATIO: (to De Soto) We okay?
(De Soto and his team step out of the house.)
DE SOTO: Air's clean. If there's any iodine 131 left in there, it's lost all
its potency. Just let one of your CSIs in.
HORATIO: Thank you, gentlemen.
DE SOTO: Okay.
HORATIO: Thank you.
(De Soto and his team leave.)
(Horatio takes out a spare set of latex gloves and gives it to Belle.)
DE SOTO: Whoa.
HORATIO: Would you mind putting these on? Okay?
(Horatio heads into the house.)
CUT TO:
[INT. KING RESIDENCE - KITCHEN - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Calleigh is in the kitchen. She turns around when Horatio and Belle walk in.)
HORATIO: Calleigh.
CALLEIGH: I, uh, checked all the dishes in the sink with sulfur. There was no
reaction. There's no sign of iodine so far.
HORATIO: Okay. You collect hourglasses.
BELLE KING: (smiles) Yeah.
(Belle walks over to her counter with the hour glasses.)
BELLE KING: My dad got me this one to remind me not to work on the weekends.
(She turns it over.) It lasts for five days.
(She looks at Horatio. He understands.)
(He looks around.)
HORATIO: Somebody sent you flowers.
BELLE KING: Mm.
HORATIO: (reads the card) From "a friend."
BELLE KING: Yeah, sometimes people like to say thanks anonymously. I don't
question it if it's nice. Helps to balance out all the hate mail. Speaking of,
there's a ... there's a nice one from Newhouse, Getty and Cooly.
(Horatio picks up a sheet of paper on the desk.)
HORATIO: Who's Sam Carver?
BELLE KING: An angry father lashing out at the world, not me. Where are my
glasses?
(The letter reads (typos are as is in the letter):
dear Belle
Or should I call you jezebelle for the way you have betrayed us. Janet is so
upset about Michael shes holed up in bed and can barely get up. Shes crying
non-stop. You made promises and gave us hope but then you couldn't deliver. I
don't want to see the same thing happen with Hank. Thats why I writing to tell
you to stay the hell away from us. Every time you leave a message its like a
bulet through our hearts. You may not keep your promises but I do and I promise
that if you don't let this thing with hank or there will be a bulet for you. If
you ever try to contact us again I'll kill you and thats a promise.
(Belle finds her glasses and puts them on.)
BELLE KING: Good thing I didn't get that laser surgery to correct my
nearsightedness.
HORATIO: (reading) "If you ever try to contact us again, I will kill you ...
and that's a promise."
BELLE KING: Yeah, he wrote that right after his oldest son died.
HORATIO: Mm-hmm.
BELLE KING: It was horrible. I still wanted to fight for Hank. He's seven
now, and he's doing fine. We worked everything out.
HORATIO: So you did contact him again.
BELLE KING: And we worked everything out. In fact, Janet even leaves me fresh
orange juice every couple of days to celebrate the clean new water.
HORATIO: Did she do that yesterday?
BELLE KING: Yeah.
HORATIO: Did you drink it?
(Belle stops smiling.)
HORATIO: Okay. (Horatio walks off screen looking for Calleigh.) Calleigh,
could you come in here a minute, please?
SHORT TIME CUT TO:
(The orange juice container is out on the counter. Calleigh uncaps it and tests
it. The clear drop of sulfer hits the orange juice and white smoke rises up
immediately.)
CALLEIGH: It's positive for iodine.
(Hold on Belle.)

[INT. CSI - INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]
(Horatio interviews Sam and Janet Carver.)
HORATIO: Recently, Belle won a class action suit for you against the power
plant for $200,000. So I guess I'm a little confused as to why there are still
hard feelings.
JANET CARVER: But there aren't.
HORATIO: Okay. (reads) "If you ever try to contact us again, I will kill you,
and that's a promise."
SAM CARVER: She dragged her feet on the case. Holding out for more money.
JANET CARVER: She had a responsibility to everyone in the lawsuit, Sam, not
just us.
SAM CARVER: While our oldest son died.
JANET CARVER: It's true. We could have used an early settlement to move, for
Michael's last days. But we're in a better neighborhood now, and our other son
Hank, he's in a real good school. One with wheelchair access.
HORATIO: Okay, the problem, Mrs. Carver, is that your husband is still very
angry with Belle. Aren't you, sir?
(Sam leans forward in his seat.)
SAM CARVER: $200,000. Does that seem like enough money for a child's life to
you?
HORATIO: Of course not. I'm sorry for your loss.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Horatio and Calleigh examine the plastic container.)
HORATIO: I see no holes or striations. But there is something else we can try.
We take the empty orange juice container and ... turn to good old ... h2o.
(He puts water in the container and finds the hole near the cover.)
HORATIO: There you go. So someone has injected this with a syringe, haven't
they?
(Quick flash to: Someone injects the needle through the plastic container. End
of flash. Resume to present.)
CALLEIGH: Sam Carver shoots a needle through plastic. Why not just pour
isotopes directly into the juice?
HORATIO: Because I don't think it was Sam Carver. I think someone else
injected it.
CALLEIGH: The Carvers are innocent.
HORATIO: The Carvers are innocent, and we are looking for somebody who knows
their way around a syringe.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Delko is examining the bills which are spread out on the table in front of him.
He uses a magnifying camera and examines the bills on the monitor. He's looking
at bill: AG572335-G7.)
(Horatio walks into the lab.)
HORATIO: Eric, you get anything?
DELKO: Seventeen prints so far. No matches on AFIS. But I did get this.
(On the monitor, they see indentions.)
HORATIO: What is that?
DELKO: Numbers I hope. I don't know, like from a credit card or a bank card.
Could have come straight out of the killer's wallet.
HORATIO: Could lead us straight back to him hopefully, huh?
DELKO: Yeah. Looks like sixteen numbers.
HORATO: Eric, your genius knows no bounds. There you have it. Nice going.
DELKO: I'll call the credit card company, see whose cash this is.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - HALLWAY - DAY]
(Horatio shares the findings with Belle.)
BELLE KING: (nods) George Risher?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm. CEO of Risher Pharmaceuticals.
BELLE KING: Yeah, I know who he is. I have a class action suit against him for
contaminating groundwater. 1,000 homeowners. I'm asking $128 million.
(Belle stops suddenly and takes a deep painful breath.)
HORATIO: Hey. Are you okay? You know what, come here.
(Horatio sits her down on the chair on the side.)
HORATIO: You need to get some rest now. You need to spend some time with
friends or family, and let me handle this, okay?
BELLE KING: Did you know Horatio was the first CSI?
HORATIO: He was ... the what?
BELLE KING: In Hamlet. When Hamlet was poisoned and dying, he asked his best
friend Horatio to tell the world who murdered him.
HORATIO: Okay, I'll tell the world. But first, I'm going to go talk to Risher,
and I'll call you later.
(Horatio stands up and leaves.)
(Camera long shot of Belle King resting against the wall as she gathers her
strength.)
CUT TO:
[INT. RISHER PHARMACEUTICALS - LOBBY - DAY]
(Horatio and Det. Bernstein walk into the lobby. Det. Bernstein shows the
receptionist his badge.)
DET. BERNSTEIN: Miami Dade police. We'd like to see George Risher.
PARKER BOYD: May I ask what this is about?
HORATIO: Tell Mr. Risher it's about Belle King.
PARKER BOYD: You know, if that woman comes by here again, I will have to call
security.
HORATIO: Now, why would you do that?
PARKER BOYD: She's, um ... a nut case. She's been driving my boss crazy. I'll
go get Mr. Risher.
HORATIO: You do that.
(The receptionist stands up and leaves.)
HORATIO: Three blocks from where Carl Aspen was murdered.
DET. BERNSTEIN: Yeah, three blocks from where iodine 131 first showed up.
HORATIO: Mm-hmm. And twenty feet ...
(Horatio turns and sees something.)
HORATIO: Twenty feet from where it's being distributed as we speak.
(They walk over to the door.)
HORATIO: This is a new lock.
DET. BERNSTEIN: How can you tell?
HORATIO: See in here? This is freezer burn.
(Camera zooms in on the broken lock.)
HORATIO: You would spray freon in to disrupt the lock internally.
(Quick flash to: [FRONT DOOR] Someone sprays freon into the lock.)
(Camera zooms into the lock to show the inside freezing.)
(Someone pounds on the lock with a chisel.)
(The locking mechanism inside the lock crumbles.)

DET. BERNSTEIN: Maybe Risher's in so much hot water already he didn't report
it.
HORATIO: Maybe he staged a break-in to cover it.
(George Risher joins them.)
GEORGE RISHER: George Risher. What's this about?
HORATIO: This is about your involvement in a murder, Mr. Risher. Is there
somewhere we can talk?
GEORGE RISHER: My office.
HORATIO: Thank you.
CUT TO:
[INT. RISHER PHARMACEUTICALS - LAB - DAY]
(Delko walks in and checks the lock.)
DELKO: Lock here is busted, too. Makes sense. It's where they keep all the
radioactive material.
(He turns and heads inside the room where Calleigh is examining the floor.)
CALLEIGH: Yeah, in the fridge with their soft drinks.
(Delko opens the refrigerator door and sure enough he sees the tubes and the
soft drinks.)
DELKO: Oh, god. Can you imagine drinking in our lab?
(He snaps a photo of the inside of the refrigerator.)
CALLEIGH: Well, it is a wonderful way to ingest all sorts of chemicals and
biologicals. Can you hand me the scale?
DELKO: Yeah. Anything recognizable?
CALLEIGH: An earring, a frito and this.
(Delko puts a scale down on the floor and snaps a photo of the shoe print.)
CALLEIGH: Looks like dirt from a heavy tread shoe or boot.
CUT TO:
[INT. RISHER PHARMACEUTICALS - RISHER'S OFFICE - DAY]
(Horatio and Det. Bernstein interview George Risher.)
HORATIO: So, let me get this straight, Mr. Risher, you did have a break-in, but
you failed to report it to the police?
GEORGE RISHER: We needed time to do an inventory. Figure out what, if anything
was missing.
HORATIO: And something was missing, wasn't it? Like four or five syringes with
iodine 131.
GEORGE RISHER: How did you know that?
HORATIO: We found a $20 bill on a dead mugger with your credit card impression
on it.
GEORGE RISHER: This conversation is over.
HORATIO: No, it's not. Not yet. You ... stand to lose $128 million if Ms.
King wins her suit against you, right?
GEORGE RISHER: I'll have security show you out.
HORATIO: It would be convenient if she disappeared.
GEORGE RISHER: Ms. King is playing David and Goliath. She hasn't a single
piece of solid evidence against us. As for this dead person with my money and
my medicine, thank you very much for solving our break-in.
HORATIO: If I find out that you did this, I'm going to make it my mission to
get you.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI -- LAB - DARK ROOM -- DAY]
(Speedle opens the heart-shaped chocolate box and takes the film out.)
(He processes the film.)
(He checks the film.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(The printer prints out the results. Delko walks into the lab.)
DELKO: Progress?
CALLEIGH: Yeah. The mystery goo we found on the floor of Risher's lab is made
up of nitrogen phosphoric acid, potassium and methyl sulfide. So, in other
words ...
DELKO: Chicken dung. Okay, so Risher cuts through Belle's backyard, doses her
O.J. and then tracks chicken remnants back to his lab.
(Behind them, Speedle heads to the lab. Calleigh stares at Delko.)
CALLEIGH: Delko ...
DELKO: (smiles) It's not that big a deal. If you would have thought about it,
you would have come up with same conclusion.
CALLEIGH: It's your nose.
(His nose is bleeding. He dabs at it with his fingertips. He looks at
Calleigh.)
DELKO: (worried) You think this could be from the iodine exposure?
SPEEDLE: (o.s.) That's probably stress-related. Beta contamination does not
cause nosebleeds.
DELKO: That's easy for you to say. You didn't breathe in radioactive money.
SPEEDLE: You spent a lot of time in those canals swimming through radioactive
crap. So I wouldn't be too concerned about a little nosebleed.
CALLEIGH: Yeah, and the RM guys gave you a clean bill of health, and you do get
nosebleeds in high-pressure situations. Speedle, did you want to tell us
something?
SPEEDLE: I want to show you something.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY - CONTINUOUS]
(Speedle shows his findings to Calleigh and Delko. The developed photos are
hanging on the viewbox.)
SPEEDLE: Now, I got these pictures from Belle's home office.
CALLEIGH: That's Risher's place.
SPEEDLE: And Risher's lab documents.
CALLEIGH: These are night vision.
SPEEDLE: Yeah, and my guess it's probably after hours.
DELKO: Belle shouldn't have these pictures.
SPEEDLE: Well, she sure couldn't have taken them without permission.
CALLEIGH: It means the chicken dung in Risher's office could have come from
Belle.
DELKO: So, if she breaks in, takes these pictures and steals radioactive
iodine.
CALLEIGH: Okay, I understand the documents, but why take the iodine?
SPEEDLE: To analyze it ... to prove that Risher has shabby security.
(Unknown to them, Horatio steps into the room.)
SPEEDLE: To kill herself. I mean, maybe she's a martyr for her cause. She
wouldn't be the first. Lady does like the press.
HORATIO: I don't agree.
(They turn around and look at Horatio.)
SPEEDLE: But these pictures could put Belle inside Risher's lab.
CALLEIGH: And according to some chickens, right in front of the refrigerator
with missing iodine.
HORATIO: Mm-hmm.
DELKO: H, all of the evidence points to the fact that Belle took these
pictures.
HORATIO: I understand, but something's not right. We're missing something.
(He turns and leaves.)

[EXT. MIAMI CITY (STOCK) - DAY]
[EXT. MIAMI COMMUNITY (STOCK) - DAY]
[INT. KING RESIDENCE - BELLE'S BEDROOM -- DAY]
(Horatio takes out a pair of Belle's sneakers from her closet. An open evidence
package is nearby. Belle is sitting in bed.)
BELLE KING: What are you doing?
HORATIO: I'm going to take these into evidence.
(He puts the sneakers into the evidence package.)
BELLE KING: Oh ... come on, Horatio. I can't win my cases with illegally
obtained documentation. Breaking into that bastard's lab would be against the
law. And besides, I'm not that brave.
HORATIO: We found some film in your office with pictures of the Risher lab on
it.
BELLE KING: And?
HORATIO: You want to tell me about it?
BELLE KING: Do you have sources on the street?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm.
BELLE KING: Well, then, you know. I can't give up this person. They're
helping me get the bad guys.
HORATIO: Okay. (She puts a hand to her head.) How are you feeling?
BELLE KING: Never better. But you might want to hurry.
HORATIO: I will.
(Horatio turns and leaves.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB -- DAY]
(Using a magnifying glass, Horatio examines the underside of Belle's sneaker.
He compares it to the shoe print.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Speedle is working on the photos from the film. He reports to Horatio.)
SPEEDLE: I looked for reflections -- a hand or fingertip captured holding the
document. Anything to tell us who took these pictures other than Belle. How'd
the shoe treads turn out?
HORATIO: It didn't. No match.
SPEEDLE: Really?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm.
SPEEDLE: Guess we were wrong.
HORATIO: Hang on a second. Is that the door to the lab?
SPEEDLE: Mm-hmm.
HORATIO: Go tight on that.
(Speedle magnifies the image of the door focusing in on the lock.)
HORATIO: That's a levered dead bolt.
SPEEDLE: There's no evidence of freon.
HORATIO: You got the picture?
(Speedle pulls out a second photo.)
SPEEDLE: So that's the old lock ...
HORATIO: And that's a new lock, isn't it? So if she took the pictures she
didn't break in to do it, did she?
SPEEDLE: Somebody let her in.
HORATIO: Somebody let her in. Which means she's protecting an insider.
SPEEDLE: You know, when I found the film it was in a heart-shaped chocolate
box. Maybe that's how they communicated.
HORATIO: mm-hmm. You also found a camera in her office, right?
SPEEDLE: So if the insider was the one who sent her the film ...
HORATIO: Maybe the insider took the pictures. Where's the camera?
SPEEDLE: It's on its way to the fingerprint lab.
(Speedle's already reaching for the phone.)
HORATIO: Call them.
(Horatio leaves the lab.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. KING RESIDENCE -- DAY]
(Belle sits in a wheelchair and feeds her chickens. Horatio walks up to her.
She turns and smiles when she realizes its him.)
HORATIO: You misled me, Belle. Didn't you? You ... have a source ... inside
Risher. And I want to know who it is.
(He grabs a chair and sits down.)
BELLE KING: He has nothing to do with this.
HORATIO: No?
BELLE KING: Mm-mm.
HORATIO: He took the pictures, he knows where they store the iodine, he's
involved and I want his name.
BELLE KING: He'd never hurt me.
HORATIO: Belle, either you give me his name, or I'm going to get it myself.
BELLE KING: If you expose my source, my evidence will be inadmissible and it'll
ruin my case against Risher.
HORATIO: I think he poisoned you.
BELLE KING: I'm one victim. Do you know how many other people will be killed
by Risher?
HORATIO: Right now, my concern is you.
CUT TO:
[EXT. VARIOUS MIAMI (STOCK) - DAY]
[INT. CSI - LAB -- DAY]
(Horatio examines the camera.)
HORATIO: There's not a single fingerprint on this.
SPEEDLE: It's probably wiped down. Lenses are such a good place for
fingerprints.
(Horatio looks through the lens.)
HORATIO: Why is this blurry?
(Camera view of the blurry-looking paper on the counter.)
HORATIO: Wait a minute. This has a diopter on it.
SPEEDLE: Diopters refer to the curvature of the lens. Increase the diopter,
...
(Quick flash of: View through the camera lens back at the eye.)
SPEEDLE: (v.o.) ... the lens gets thicker, the curvature greater, redirecting
the light, making the image appear larger and in focus.
(End of flash. Resume to present.)
HORATIO: Just like putting on a pair of glasses and this one ... is set for
farsightedness.
SPEEDLE: So what?
HORATIO: Belle is nearsighted.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - HALLWAY - DAY]
(Horatio, Delko and Calleigh walk through the hallway.)
HORATIO: I need the Risher employee list complete with medical records.
CALLEIGH: I'll narrow it down to farsighted employees.
HORATIO: Okay, I'll call a judge and get a warrant. Eric, start taking swabs.
DELKO: To match with what? We didn't get any DNA off the pencil.
HORATIO: Oh, I think I know where else to look.
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - FORENSICS LAB - DAY]
(Alexx cuts through the casing around the victim's hand.)
ALEXX: The isotopes have become harmless. Still, you do realize this is a long
shot.
HORATIO: I know, Alexx.
ALEXX: I have no idea if the lead is compromising the epithelials.
HORATIO: All I need is one.
ALEXX: Like I said, long shot.
(Alexx scrapes under the victim's nails.)
ALEXX: Must have been quite a fight.
(Quick flashback to: Carl Aspen struggles against his attacker. He scrapes the
back of the arm with his fingernails.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
ALEXX: 'cause it looks like I have a pretty nice hunk in there.
(Alexx puts the scrapings into a bindle.)
HORATIO: So we have a killer.
(Calleigh walks into the lab.)
CALLEIGH: Horatio?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm.
CALLEIGH: Fourteen employees at Risher are farsighted.
HORATIO: (holds up the envelope) Only one with this DNA, though.
(Horatio turns and heads out.)
CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - LAB - DAY]
(Delko takes out the print results. He reads it and smiles. He looks up and
sees Horatio in the hallway. He heads out to catch up with him.)
DELKO: H.
(Horatio looks up as Delko steps out of the lab.)
DELKO: Got it. I got the match.
(Delko shows the results to Horatio.)
CUT TO:
[INT. RISHER PHARMACEUTICALS - LOBBY -- DAY]
(Parker Boyd sits behind the reception desk in the lobby. He's busy trying to
delete files from the computer.)
WOMAN: (o.s.) I'm sorry this is the employee ...
DET. BERNSTEIN: (o.s.) Miami Dade Police. Get out of the way, ma'am.
(He clicks on "B.K." and hits delete.)
DET. BERNSTEIN: (o.s.) Hey!
(Det. Bernstein grabs Parker Boyd and drags him off his chair. The computer
starts to delete the photo files.)
DET. BERNSTEIN: Hey!
PARKER BOYD: That's private property!
DET. BERNSTEIN: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and
will be used against you in a court of law.
(Det. Bernstein puts handcuffs on Parker Boyd. Horatio watches the photos as
they're being deleted. They're surveillance photos of Belle.)

CUT TO:
[INT. CSI - INTERVIEW ROOM -- DAY]
(Horatio and Det. Bernstein interview Parker Boyd.)
HORATIO: We found your skin underneath the victim's fingernails. (Horatio puts
the test results on the table.) These are called alleles. There's a 100% match
to you.
PARKER BOYD: (interrupts) I work in medicine. I know about DNA.
HORATIO: Do you?
PARKER BOYD: Yeah.
HORATIO: Mmm. It's an exciting field, isn't it?
PARKER BOYD: Yeah.
HORATIO: But that's not what we're here to talk about, Parker. We're here to
talk about the fact that you got mugged the night you were planning your own
murder.
(Quick flashback to: [NIGHT] Parker Boyd runs into Carl Aspen.)
PARKER BOYD: Don't hurt me! I got money, I got money. I got money. Here.
(Carl takes the money. He grabs the backpack.)
PARKER BOYD: That's nothing, that's nothing.
(Carl finds a syringe.)
CARL ASPEN: What's this? Some grade-a smack?
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
PARKER BOYD: I gave him my money.
HORATIO: Money that you used from the Risher coffee run, right?
PARKER BOYD: He wouldn't back off. Self-defense.
DET. BERNSTEIN: Oh, yeah, self-defense. You were trying to defend the other
four syringes of iodine 131. Snapped his neck, left the cash and took your
syringes over to Belle's.
(Quick flashback to: [NIGHT] Parker Boyd fights back. He grabs Carl Aspen and
snaps his neck. The body falls to the ground.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
HORATIO: Now, Parker, I have a question for you. Do you have a crush on Belle?
Because, see, once we do a full handwriting analysis, I'm certain we're going to
get a match between your office stationary and the anonymous flower card.
(Camera close-up of: A telephone message and the photo of the gift card.)
PARKER BOYD: She, uh ... tricked me ... into doing things for her.
(Quick flashback to: [DAY] Belle King smiles at Parker as she signs in.)
BELLE KING: Thanks.
(She leans forward and kisses him on the forehead.)

HORATIO: Things like breaking into Risher to gather evidence. That kind of
thing?
(Quick flashback to: [OFFICE] Parker opens the filing cabinet, grabs some file
folders and sifts through them. He finds the document and snaps photos of the
contents.)

PARKER BOYD: She pretended to like me to get what she wanted.
(Quick flashback to: Parker Boyd puts the film in the heart-shaped chocolate
box.)
(End of flashback. Resume to present.)
PARKER BOYD: I told her how I felt about her and she just ... she just cares
about sick people.
(Quick flashback to: He hands the chocolate box to Belle King. She turns and
leaves.)
(Parker picks up the pencil Belle leaves behind. He tucks it behind his ear.)

HORATIO: Just cared about sick people. So you spiked her orange juice to get
her attention.
PARKER BOYD: I loved her.
HORATIO: Enough to love her to death?
(Quick flashback to: [NIGHT] Parker Boyd sneaks up the front porch and injects
the syringe contents into the orange juice. He uses about four syringes.)

PARKER BOYD: I thought if she were dead ... I could forget about her.
HORATIO: Well, that is a plan. But it didn't turn out that way, did it?
(Parker shakes his head.)
PARKER BOYD: You'll have the next fifty years in a 6x6 cell to work on it.
(Horatio turns and leaves.)
CUT TO:
[EXT. MIAMI CITY (STOCK) - DAY]
[INT. KING RESIDENCE - BEDROOM - DAY]
(Belle is lying in bed. Her eyes are closed. Horatio sits on the side and
leans in close to her.)
HORATIO: (softly) Belle. (Her eyes open.) You were right.
BELLE KING: About what?
HORATIO: Your pictures of Risher confirm that he's dirty.
BELLE KING: So he was dumping waste.
HORATIO: Mm-hmm. My evidence was obtained with a warrant. Now I can prove it
in court. How about that?
BELLE KING: Horatio?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm?
BELLE KING: Tell the world.
HORATIO: I will.
BELLE KING: Horatio?
HORATIO: Mm-hmm?
BELLE KING: Thank you.
HORATIO: Thank you.
(Belle cries.)
(Camera pulls back out the window.)
