Act One

Vicki and Henry relax with the movie Nosferatu on the wide screen TV at his place, Vicki chomping on popcorn as she watches.

Henry: It breaks my heart every time.

Vicki: I know. Poor girl sacrificing herself to save her village.

Henry: No. Orlok, dying for love. Vampires know when dawn’s coming. You can feel the sun long before you see it.

As they discuss the movie the scene is inter-cut with scenes of Orlok biting the girl’s neck and then Orlok dying in the sun.

Vicki: Anyone ever try and keep you up past your bedtime?

Henry: Passion can be a great distraction… for vampires as well as humans. And playing on the edge of getting burned is part of the fun.

Vicki: You’d think there’d be easier ways of getting a meal than having to get involved in a messy romance.

Henry: It’s not about taking blood. When I feed there’s a connection. Every emotion adds to the quality of the experience. Sometimes it’s taking someone in a dark alley and tasting their fear. Sometimes it’s tasting a lover in the throes of passion. Then it’s easy to forget the dawn.

As Henry talks he plays with Vicki’s hair and Vicki looks very affected by his words.

Vicki: Popcorn?

Henry: (Leaning in closer) Passion isn’t something you can shut out forever Vicki. It knocks down walls, sweeps you off your feet. It can change your life.

Henry pulls Vicki a little closer and leans in to kiss her but she prevents it by reaching past him to examine the DVD box, leaving herself sprawled stomach first over his lap instead.

Vicki: Is this supposed to be a double feature?

Henry: (frustrated) Yeah.

In a loft in another part of the city, a young, buff man is lifting weights. He struggles to set the weights down again and then gets up off the bench and goes around to adjust the bars. As he does the full force of the weight falls down on his hand, causing a nasty, bleeding wound.

Andrew: ARGH! DAMMIT!

As he gasps and groans in pain, holding his wounded hand, we see the blood drop onto the floor and begin to burn into it. The floor starts to split and as the young man watches a pentagram inside a circle is burned into the floor. A whoosh of air accompanies the symbol and we see Vicki’s old “friend” Norman Bridewell standing in the middle of the pentagram.

Norman fidgets and flexes a little as he takes a look around his old place. The man bleeding just glares at him.

Andrew: How the hell did you get in here?

Norman: Exactly. What did you do to my place?

Andrew: Dude, you got about five seconds to get out of here!

Norman: I don’t think so.

With one slash of his now mangled demon hand, Norman cuts a fatal wound in the young man’s neck, killing him. Norman takes off his glasses and looks around.

Norman: Sweet stereo. And when I say sweet, I mean wicked awesome.

Act Two

Vicki and Coreen are in her office, going over her schedule.

Coreen: Okay, so here is how the day is shaping up. 10:30 Walter Brioux, looking for his estranged daughter. 11:30, Anna Reggit needs someone to check out staff pilfering at her clothing store. And then at 2:00…

As Coreen is going over Vicki’s calendar Vicki is rubbing the markings on her wrists.

Coreen: Are you okay?

Vicki: Hmm? They’re um… they’re burning or something today?

Coreen: You should put something on them.

Vicki: Like what? Demon-off cream? I should just get them removed. Laser or skin graft or something.

Coreen: You wouldn’t!

Vicki: They’re demon brands Coreen. They’re not Hello Kitty tattoos. Actually that would be worse.

Coreen: They’re part of you now. They’re powerful, you’ve seen that.

Vicki: Yeah, and I still have no clue how to use them.

Coreen: We could try to find out.

Vicki: No, I think I’ll deal with them the same way I deal with everything that’s complicated in my life. I’ll just avoid it until it goes away.

Coreen: Oh, and that works for you.

Vicki: Oh yeah, job, friends, love. My decks are clear.

Coreen: Funny, I was happy when I walked in here.

Vicki: Hmm.

They are interrupted by an elderly woman.

Camille: Excuse me, Ms. Nelson?

Vicki: Yes.

Camille: My name is Camille Stokes.

Vicki: Can I help you?

Camille: I need to talk to you. I believe it’s urgent.

Vicki: Have a seat.

Camille takes a seat as Coreen crosses around the desk to stand next to Vicki. They both give Camille their full attention.

Camille: You probably won’t even believe what I have to tell you.

Vicki: I have a very open mind these days.

Camille: Well, you see, I’m psychic. Last night I had a dream. A terrifying dream. And you were in it.

Vicki: But we’ve never met.

Camille: I saw you and this office. And the thing that wanted to hurt you. It was pure evil.

Vicki: (To Coreen) Now since when does my landlord show up in dreams?

Camille: Don’t joke about this. I saw you die.

Vicki: How did I die?

Camille: I saw a room, red walls, black floor. There was a pentagram. Someone was invoking something evil.

Coreen realizes immediately what Camille is describing and gasps. Vicki, too, seems to understand what the dream means.

Vicki: Who was doing the summoning?

Camille: I don’t know but I know what he was using. Three powerful objects. A stone chalice, an ancient dagger and a book. A mystic book.

Vicki and Coreen exchange a look.

Vicki: What else did you see?

Camille: In the center it took you. Your body, but I felt it was more interested in your soul. When you disappeared, that’s when I woke up. I’m sorry, you probably think I’m crazy, but the vision was so powerful I had to look you up. Does any of it mean anything to you?

Vicki: I really wish it didn’t. If you have any more visions, would you mind giving me a call?

Camille: Of course, I’ll be in touch.

Vicki nods and Camille gets up and is escorted out by Coreen. As soon as she’s gone Coreen turns back to Vicki, horrified.

Coreen: Do you think she’s right?

Vicki: Maybe this is just some random woman having a bad dream.

Coreen: What about all the stuff she saw. The chalice, the knife? Henry already destroyed that.

Vicki: Yeah, I thought he did.

Coreen and Vicki look at each other worriedly as they consider Camille’s strange visit.

At the police station Mike is on the phone getting information about the latest homicide in the city.

Mike: What do you mean clawed? Like an animal?

As he talks on the phone, Kate approaches him carrying two full cups of coffee.

Mike: Oh, beautiful. Yeah, yeah I’ll be down in ten minutes.

Mike writes down the location as Kate stops behind him.

Mike: All right.

Kate: Catch of the day?

Mike: Yeah, somebody dumped the body of a guy in the Annex. He was sliced up pretty bad.

Kate: Yeah, how bad?

Mike: Well, whoever did it opened up his throat and bled him out.

Kate: Dave still in court?

Mike: Yeah, all week.

Kate: I’ll come with ya.

Mike: (Indicating the coffee cups) Depends, one of those for me?

Kate: You know it.

Mike: Hey, welcome aboard newbie!

Kate: (As she follows Mike out) Oh, I’m driving.

Mike just turns to look at her sarcastically as he backs out of the room.

Kate: Hey, if you’re good, you can play with my siren.

Mike: Oh, promises, promises.

That evening Vicki pounds on Henry’s door. Henry finally answers it, somewhat undressed and Vicki launches in to her story before they even get to hello.

Vicki: We need to talk. Look, this woman came into my office today. She’s a psychic, no less.

Henry steps in front of Vicki, clearly trying to keep her close to the door.

Henry: Vicki, this really isn’t a good time.

Vicki: There is a point I promise you. So this woman comes into my office and she tells me that she’s having a vision of uh… Ohh.

Vicki sidesteps Henry and walks further into the room as she talks but stops abruptly when she sees a half dressed woman at the door of Henry’s bedroom.

Henry approaches Vicki from behind, turning his attention to the blonde at his bedroom door.

Henry: It’s business.

Blonde: I understand. I’ll be waiting.

Henry’s playmate leaves them alone and disappears back into the bedroom as Vicki turns to face Henry.

Vicki: You don’t rest, do you? I mean I thought you were the Prince of Darkness, but it’s really more like the Lord of Lechery or something.

Henry: A man has to eat.

Vicki: You don’t have to play with your food.

Henry: I take it this warning you received can’t wait.

Vicki: Hmm, well let’s see, she said that a demon was coming to get me. And that someone was assembling the objects used to summon him. That can’t be, right? Because you destroyed all of the objects that Norman Bridewell used to summon the demon.

When Henry doesn’t answer her, Vicki gets even more upset.

Vicki: You did destroy them right?

Henry: I took care of them, like I said.

Vicki: And that’s why someone’s having visions of demons throwing a surprise party for me.

Henry: Vicki, you don’t know this psychic. You don’t know how accurate her gift is. Visions are like dreams; you have to know how to interpret them.

Vicki: Hmm, let’s see. Astaroth dragging me into a pentagram and eating my soul. Pretty clear!

Henry: That’s why I separated them. With the objects divided they can’t be used in that ritual again.

Vicki: Hmm, well maybe that’s why someone’s trying to un-separate them. Where are they?

Henry: The grimoire and the chalice are with trusted friends. The knife is safe here with me.

Vicki: Yeah, cause, uh… no one could get in here, right?

Henry: What do you want?

Vicki: Gather them up and destroy them like we said we would.

Henry: The night’s almost over. If you insist, we’ll collect and destroy them. Tomorrow.

Vicki: Bon appetite.

Vicki leaves Henry alone and he looks after her, disturbed.

In an alley, Camille looks around to make sure she’s alone and then shape-shifts into Norman. He takes another look around and then summons the symbol of Astaroth on his palm.

Norman: I’ve made contact.

Astaroth’s voice: Do you have what you need?

Norman: She’s already connected with the Nightwalker. They’re so stupid they’ll lead us right to what we’re looking for. Lemmings.

Norman hears a noise and looks out onto the road, seeing Vicki walk by the alley. He turns away from her, waiting until she passes and then shape-shifting into a flock of bats. The noise startles Vicki and she turns to look but sees nothing. She turns back and continues to walk as we see the flock of bats fly away.

Act Three

Mike and Kate are with Mohadevan and her client in the morgue.

Mike: Any luck on the ID.

Mohadevan: No. Not yet. The poor boy’s fingerprints aren’t in the system.

Kate: The guy’s built. We should see if any of the campus hockey teams had any no shows today.

Mike: And how’d you get to hockey player?

Kate: Forearms. And the calluses on the palms. Betcha he shot left.

Mike: So, doc, uh, what caused that slash on our hockey player’s neck?

Mohadevan: Whatever did it was razor-sharp. All the major veins and arteries in the neck were severed.

Kate: Like that case a few months ago, the five bodies.

Mike: Yeah, that’s kinda what I’m thinking.

Mohadevan: Well the cause of death is certainly consistent. And the fact that the body is missing all of its blood.

Kate: You think it’s the same guy?

Mike: It’s him, or it’s someone pulling a copycat. I got a feeling we’re going to see a lot more bodies piling up before this is through.  Thanks doc.

Mike and Kate leave Mohadevan alone with the victim.

Mohadevan: If only you could talk.

Mike heads over to Vicki’s office and loudly drops a box of donuts on her desk, waking her from a doze.

Mike: Wakey wakey.

Vicki: Hmm.

Mike: Bad dream?

Vicki: Yeah I was having this crazy nightmare that I was a private investigator, spending all my time chasing around things that sane people don’t believe in.

Mike: Yeah I wish we could both wake up from that dream. And by the way, when are you gonna lock that front door of yours?

Vicki: Bad for business. Besides, I don’t think it would stop the things that are chasing me these days.

Mike: Well, let me guess. Demon convention in town?

Vicki: Oh, you heard their radio ads.

Mike: Well, I’m not an expert in these matters but, uh, we’ve got a dead kid and it looks a lot like the demon killings from a few months ago.

Vicki: Where did you find him?

Mike: Brunswick, just south of Bloor.

Vicki: A psychic came in here, told me she’d had a vision that, uh, someone had started up a new pentagram with a fresh set of corpses. She said the demon was after me.

Mike: Look, Vick, my sister and her husband, they umm… they have a place in Mexico. Maybe you should take some time off, catch some rays, huh?

Vicki: You think I should run.

Mike: If it’ll keep you alive, yeah I do.

Vicki: This isn’t like witness protection, Mike, these things will find you.

Mike: (sighs) So what are you gonna do Vick?

Vicki: Call it a pre-emptive strike. The demon needs certain things and I am going to make sure it doesn’t get them.

Mike: All right. So what can I do to help?

Vicki: The demon has to work through somebody so, you know, if we could find whoever it is, we could stop this whole thing from going to hell.

That evening Henry and Vicki pull up outside an antique shop.

Vicki: You left the chalice in an antique store?

Henry: It’s anything but an antique store. Maurice is a powerful individual.

Vicki: Who also happens to sell dusty old furniture?

Henry: He knows this world and he hates magic even more than I do. He promised he’d keep the chalice safe.

Vicki: Let’s just hope he’s a man who keeps his promises.

They head inside and talk to the owner.

Maurice: Nothing here for you.

Vicki: You’re not much of a salesman.

Maurice: You’re not much of a customer. What do you want Henry?

Henry: The chalice.

Maurice: Don’t be absurd.

Henry: I know I asked you to guard it but the situation’s changed.

Maurice: The chalice is perfectly safe.

Vicki: I don’t think you understand.

Maurice: What part of the apocalypse do you think eludes me, my dear? I have been fighting demonic influences since before you were born.

Vicki: Then we both want the same things. So just get the chalice and let me destroy it once and for all.

Henry: Vicki was connected to the ritual.

Vicki: And one person has already been killed trying to bring Astaroth back.

Maurice: Henry, when you asked me to guard this, you made me swear never to reveal its whereabouts to anyone, even you.

Henry: The situation’s changed. It’s important.

Maurice: Well, I have no idea where it is.

Vicki: You lost it?

Maurice: It is beyond anybody’s reach, even mine.

Henry: You used a concealment spell.

Maurice: You always were a clever one, vampire.

Vicki: Now, I thought you said he hated magic even more than you do.

Maurice: I only use magic to defeat magic. No one will ever see the chalice again.

Vicki: Well I don’t know about you but I would sure feel a whole lot safer if we destroyed the damn thing.

Maurice: Who says it would let you hurt it? The concentration evil channeled into these things gives them their own power.

Henry: There must be some way to find the chalice. Even if we can’t destroy it we have to try.

Maurice: I have taken on a burden. You’re best out of it. Both of you. I’m sorry, but what I do I do for the good of everyone. It is my mission.

Henry: (Stopping Vicki from continuing the debate) Thank you Maurice. (To Vicki) Come on.

Henry and Vicki continue arguing as they leave the store.

Henry: Maurice knows more about the chalice than either of us. If he feels it’s safe, maybe we should trust him.

Vicki: Good, well maybe that concealment spell works on us but how do we know it’s gonna work on a demon?

Henry: There comes a moment when you have to believe in people.

Vicki: You know what? I’m running a little bit low on that right now, not to mention time and patience.

Henry: It’s been safe with Maurice. He’ll continue to protect it. There’s nothing else we can do right now.

Henry opens the car door for Vicki as she looks at the sky.

Henry: Are you coming?

Vicki: No, I just… I need some air.

Vicki walks away from Henry and he looks after her, frustrated.

At the station, Mike is researching, trying to find the demon-caller as Kate gets ready to leave for the night. She approaches him.

Kate: Do you know what time it is?

Mike: Somewhere between way too late and way too early?

Kate: What do you know about this case you’re not telling me?

Mike: You know what I know Kate.

Kate: The last time these murders started up, there was all kinds of talk about pentagrams and black magic.

Mike: You know people talk.

Kate: People also said Vicki was involved in it somehow. We’ve all heard the kind of cases she’s taking on these days

Mike: Come on Kate. It’s a living, huh?

Kate: This is crazy stuff. You don’t want to get involved.

Mike: Yeah, tell me about it.

Kate: Take a break. We’ll get on this in the morning. We’ll find this guy.

Mike: Yeah, you’re right. Let’s call it a night, huh?

Back at Maurice’s shop the doorbell rings signaling another visitor.

Maurice: We’re closed.

There’s no answer and Maurice gets up from his reading to find Vicki standing behind him.

Maurice: Ms. Nelson, I told you, you couldn’t have the chalice.

Vicki: I understand. I just had to ask again. I hope you can understand how important this is to me.

Maurice: My dear, I know what the demon did to you and I promise you, Henry would never have brought the chalice to me if he didn’t think I could protect it.

Vicki: Are you sure about that?

Maurice: Absolutely, there’s no way anyone can find it.

Vicki: What if I ask nicely?

Maurice releases the hand that he picked up to comfort Vicki as it turns to a demon claw and we realize that Norman is using Vicki’s form.

Maurice: I know what you are and I’m not afraid.

Norman (as Vicki): (sniffs the air) Mmm, it’s here.

Maurice: No.

Norman (as Vicki): You think you’re so smart. You should have read the fine print, dude! The thing about spells is the magic dies with the person who cast it.

NormanVicki raises his clawed hand and slashes Maurice, killing him instantly. As Maurice’s body falls, Norman, still in Vicki’s form, licks the blood from his claw. The chalice materializes on the counter and he sniffs then turns to see it. We see Norman’s hand grabbing the chalice and in the background Maurice’s bloody body lays motionless on the floor.

Act Four

Mike and Kate watch as the crime scene guys pull a sheet over Maurice’s body.

Kate: Same killer as our hockey player?

Mike: Looks that way.

Kate: Hmm, but he doesn’t bother to move the body. He’s getting sloppy.

Mike: You know, I thought everybody had security cameras these days.

Kate: Maybe nothing worth stealing. All looks like junk to me.

Mike: Well, it’s hard to tell with some of this stuff.

Mike picks up a book and looks at it as Kate checks the register.

Kate: There’s got to be at least a few hundred dollars.

Mike: So our killer’s not in it for the money.

Kate: Try this… what if it’s not about who he kills, but where?

Mike: Well, the first body was moved.

Kate: Then the placement of the body, maybe there’s some sort of pattern to it.

Mike: Kills like that are usually posed. The first body was just dumped. (Gestures to Maurice’s body) It looks like the killer just left him where he fell.

Kate: Maybe time’s our way in. Maybe the killer’s on a timetable?

An officer guarding the door tries to stop Vicki from entering but she looks for Mike.

Vicki: Hey um… (To Mike) Mike!

Mike: (Turns to Vicki) Oh, no, she’s fine. Let her through.

Kate: (softly) What is she doing here?

Mike: Well, if this is the same guy as our last killer I thought Vicki might have some ideas.

Vicki: Yeah, and hey, who doesn’t like starting their day with a homicide?

Kate: Well, it’s always nice to have a joke at the crime scene.

Kate turns away and moves to another part of the store as Mike and Vicki share a look.

Vicki: Ouch.

Mike: Yeah. All right.

Mike lifts up the sheet and shows Vicki Maurice’s body.

Vicki: Ugh…

Mike: You know, Vick, there’s, uh, some interesting books here.

Vicki: Yeah, I’m sure Maurice has quite the collection.

Mike: You knew him?

Vicki: I met him last night. Henry and I were here, before he was killed.

Mike: (sighs) That’s great. Oh. So I suppose you even know the motive.

Vicki: Maurice was guarding one of the objects needed to summon the demon.

Mike: Looks like he did a hell of a job.

Vicki: Well, I think if whoever’s doing this killed him they got what they came for.

Mike: What does that mean? That he’s ready to let the demon through?

Vicki: Not quite. He still needs a few more things. Unfortunately, I happen to be one of them.

Vicki heads back to her office where she and Coreen discuss the situation.

Coreen: So whoever it was has the chalice but everything else is still safe, right?

Vicki: Henry thought the chalice was safe. You know, I don’t care what Maurice says about these things not being able to be destroyed. I want five minutes alone with them and a sledgehammer.

Coreen: What if we can’t destroy them? It just keeps killing until it gets them?

Vicki: Maybe. Or until we find whoever’s doing this and stop them. (Coreen sighs worriedly) It’s gonna be okay. We stopped it once and that was before we were supernatural experts. No case too strange, right?

Coreen: I guess, but I’m still looking up wards and protection spells just in case.

Vicki: You had any luck tracking down Camille?

Coreen: She’s not in the book and motor vehicles doesn’t have any record, but there are still a few ‘C. Stokes’ out there that I haven’t heard from yet.

Vicki: Well she is a psychic. She might have a stage name. Call Mike; see if police records have anything on her. If she’s tuned in to whoever’s doing this, she might be in as much danger as we are.

Coreen: Either that or the demon’s the one placing the visions.

Vicki: You’re getting as paranoid as I am. I like that. Hmm.

Vicki gets her coat and goes to leave.

Coreen: Where are you going?

Vicki: I’ve got to go see a man about a grimoire.

Vicki goes to get Henry and they talk as they walk down one of Toronto’s more deserted streets. Vicki can see that Henry is upset.

Vicki: It’s not your fault.

Henry: Maurice trusted me. I believed with the objects separated, he’d be safe.

Vicki: He knew the risk. He thought they were safe.

Henry: I should know that using magic’s never safe. I knew he wouldn’t be able to resist having an object that was used in an actual summoning. I used his obsession.

Vicki: Look, we just have to get the rest of them back. Where’s the book?

Henry: Dr. Sagara has it.

Vicki: You gave that book to one of your best friends?

Henry: She thought some good would come from studying it.

Vicki: Henry, we know what that book does. We don’t need to study it. And you might as well have painted a target on her back and handed out bows and arrows.

Henry: She’s aware of the danger. She won’t have told anyone she has it.

Vicki: You don’t even know how they found Maurice; they might be able to sense the objects. We have to get it back from her.

Henry: Until we know how they really find it, I’m not going to endanger her.

Vicki: It may already know she has it; not telling her is putting her in jeopardy.

Henry: Contacting her right now could be leading them right to her. Once we know it’s safe, we’ll get the grimoire. Then you and I can have a good old-fashioned book burning.

Vicki shakes her head and walks away from Henry but he stops her.

Henry: It’s gonna be okay.

Vicki: It’ll be okay? You said I was afraid to give myself over to passion. Do you really think that’s true?

Henry: Well, there’s passion. And then there’s passion. Like the passionate longing for a lover’s lips, his delicate touch. And then there’s passion for gun magazines and shaking down suspects.

Vicki: And you think I’m the latter.

Henry: It doesn’t matter what I think.

Vicki: Good to know.

Vicki walks away from Henry and Henry grimaces for a moment before following in her wake. Neither of them noticed what appeared to be a homeless man rooting through the trash within earshot of their conversation. As they move out of sight the homeless man turns away from the trash and opens up a red and white cloth, taking out an apple and biting into it as he looks up and reveals himself as Norman.

Later, Dr. Sagara is surprised to see Henry show up at her door. He follows her into her office, hands relaxed in the loops of his belt.

Sagara: I didn’t expect you.

Henry: I have bad news.

Sagara: Oh?

Henry: Maurice Baloc is dead.

Sagara: Oh. I’m sorry. He was… he was one of a kind.

Henry: He was wasn’t he?

Sagara: Mmhmm

Henry: I’m afraid I was kind of responsible.

Sagara: What are you talking about?

Henry: I gave him something. Something that some very dangerous people wanted.

Sagara: Hm. I see.

Henry: I came for the book.

Sagara: It’s safe with me.

Henry: Nothing’s safe. I just don’t want you to get hurt too.

Sagara: You’ve changed, you know?

Henry: No, it’s the same old me, Henry Fitzroy, vampire at large.

Sagara: Well, if you really want the book, I’m happy to give it to you. You’re one of the few people I know with the strength not to be corrupted by it.

As Sagara turns away to get the book NormanHenry smiles broadly and looks up at the ceiling in triumph.

Sagara: Unlike that poor, deluded young man you took it from.

Norman (as Henry): Who knows? Maybe he wasn’t so deluded.

Angry now, NormanHenry breaks character as he lets his claw hand come out.

Sagara: Anyone who thinks they got the best of a deal with a demon is a fool.

Norman (as Henry): (Still with his claw hand poised to strike) Hmm, Sometimes you’ve got to wonder who the real fools are, don’t you.

NormanHenry prepares to strike while Sagara’s back is still turned but is stopped by her next comment.

Sagara: I’m sorry, I was judging very harshly. I remember Norman from classes. He had great potential. He could have done great things.

NormanHenry sighs and lowers his hand, not being able to follow through with his plan to kill Dr. Sagara.

Norman (as Henry): Hmm. He shouldn’t have been treated like that.

Sagara opens her safe and removes the book as she smiles and responds, her back still to NormanHenry.

Sagara: How compassionate of you Henry. I think Vicki’s good for you.

Norman (as Henry): She’s a very special woman.

Sagara: Mmhmm. But don’t assume she’s as strong as you think.

Norman (as Henry): Really.

Sagara: Even after I knew that vampires and demons and magic were real, there was a part of me that never believed it. I had to force myself to not be afraid. But then I, I… I had to deal with things like this and then I understood. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid, it keeps us sane. (NormanHenry laughs) But you have to embrace the fear. Tell her that Henry. Don’t let her get away without really letting her love you. Like I did.

Norman (as Henry): (laughs) You and I were…

Sagara: What we were is different. Tell her.

Norman (as Henry): I just might do that.

NormanHenry puts a finger up to Sagara’s nose and touches it, laughing. Sagara looks at him, confused but still smiling.

Norman (as Henry): Thank you.

NormanHenry laughs as he walks to the door and looks around but then turns back and holds out the book towards Sagara.

Norman (as Henry): Thank you for the book.

Dr. Sagara watches as he leaves, confused now, after her encounter with her “friend”. In the hallway, Norman shifts into his flock of bats and flies off.

Back at Vicki’s office, she’s looking over some information on the computer when Norman still in Henry’s form comes in to see her.

Vicki: Hey.

Norman (as Henry): Where’s Coreen?

Vicki: She’s running down leads on that psychic, Camille Stokes.

Norman (as Henry): None of that will matter soon. It’s almost over. I took your advice. I visited Betty and got the book.

Vicki: You did? Where is it?

Norman (as Henry): It’s back at my place. We can destroy it together.

Vicki: Good.

Norman (as Henry): That’s what you wanted, isn’t it? ‘Cause it scares you?

Vicki: I want that demon bastard back in hell where he belongs.

Norman (as Henry): You don’t have to act brave with me Vicki. We know each other better than that.

Vicki: (sighs) I just want this to end. The marks, the demons, all of it, no matter what it takes.

Norman (as Henry): It’s not easy. Maybe you have to accept the marks.

Vicki: I thought you hated them even more than I do?

Norman (as Henry): But they’re part of you now. There’s nothing wrong with being afraid. It’s what makes us sane. You have to embrace what you’re afraid of.

Vicki: Yeah, maybe you’re right. I mean there are times when I wonder if we’re gonna survive the next couple of hours. And I realized that if I died, there would be things I would regret not having done.

Vicki moves closer and goes in to kiss Henry. But she realizes very quickly that he’s not responding and pulls away. NormanHenry, meanwhile, is very surprised and has kind of stunned look on Henry’s face.

Vicki: I thought you wanted that. Oh god, Vicki Nelson, queen of bad timing.

Norman stops Vicki from walking away and smiles.

Norman (as Henry): No, that was great timing.

Vicki: Don’t patronize me.

Norman (as Henry): I liked it! Let’s try it again.

Vicki: You’re sure?

Norman (as Henry): Of course.

Vicki moistens her lips and NormanHenry takes the cue and licks his lips too, more than once as he leans in to her. But he’s a bit too overeager and Vicki pulls back, confused by Henry trying to eat her face.

Vicki: Ugh… wow, maybe this is a bad idea. You know what? We should probably stay on point. Head back to your apartment, get the book and the dagger and destroy them. I have a friend who’s a glassblower; she’s got a kiln…

NormanHenry, finally realizing that the last piece of his puzzle is with the real Henry tosses his head and grins.

Norman (as Henry): It’s at my apartment.

Vicki: Henry, what is wrong with you?

NormanHenry backs up, laughing and turns to leave.  Vicki goes after him.

Norman (as Henry): I gotta go.

Vicki: Hey!

NormanHenry turns around and backhands Vicki across the room and into a wall, causing her to fall, unconscious, to the floor. Shaking off Henry’s form, Norman approaches Vicki.

Norman: I can’t kill you yet, so we’re gonna have to do this again sometime.

Norman turns to leave but thinks better of it and turns back to Vicki’s form.

Norman: Oh, by the way, you are a wicked kisser and when I say wicked, I mean totally sweet.

Leaving Vicki lifeless on her office floor, Norman goes over to Henry’s and adopts Vicki’s form this time so he can gain access to Henry’s place and the dagger.

Henry: (Opening the door) Vicki, what are you doing here?

Norman (as Vicki): I’ve been thinking and I have something to tell you.

Henry: About the demon?

Norman (as Vicki): (shakes head) About me.

Henry: What’s this about Vick?

Norman (as Vicki): About what you said, that I’m afraid of passion.

Henry: I said too much. Even if I didn’t want to believe it, you’ve made it perfectly clear what we are to each other.

Norman (as Vicki): Wow, you give up easy. I was just… I was afraid. You know, I knew what I wanted. It’s just something was stopping me from getting it.

As Norman (still as Vicki) talks he walks around Henry’s apartment, trying to sniff out the dagger.

Henry: Really.

Norman (as Vicki): Yeah, and I’m not gonna let that happen anymore.

Henry’s phone begins to ring but he ignores it as he follows NormanVicki around his penthouse, intrigued by her supposed change of attitude. Meanwhile, in her office, a now conscious Vicki is calling Henry to warn him about someone masquerading around town as him.

Vicki: Come on, Henry, pick up. Come on, be there, be there.

Vicki hangs up the phone, frustrated and afraid.

Vicki: Dammit.

At Henry’s penthouse he’s questioning Vicki’s wandering

Henry: Are you looking for something?

Norman (as Vicki): Nope, just making myself comfortable.

NormanVicki eases onto the couch backwards and watches as Henry approaches.

Henry: Well, I could make you more comfortable.

Henry moves in to kiss NormanVicki who eagerly responds, then pushes Henry back just a bit.

Vicki: Mm, maybe we should save this til later. You know, let’s just get that dagger and destroy it.

Henry kisses NormanVicki a few more times as he tries to talk her out of it.

Henry: The dagger can wait. We have more important business.

NormanVicki violently pushes Henry away from him and gets up, frustrated.

Vicki: More important than someone bringing a demon to earth? Yeah, I don’t think so. Just get it, alright?

Henry, now angry and in vampire face and tone, puts one hand around NormanVicki’s throat.

Henry: Who are you?

Norman still as Vicki unsheathes his claw and slashes Henry across the chest then pushes him to the ground through a coffee table. Then NormanVicki brings his claw up to Vicki’s face and rubs her chin.

Norman (as Vicki): We could have had such a beautiful relationship.

Act Five

Norman still dressed as Vicki looks and sniffs around the apartment as Henry struggles to get up from the floor.

Norman (as Vicki): No, no, don’t get up. I got it.

NormanVicki walks over to one of the walls and sniffs at it. Henry, seeing that the demon has found the hiding place, gets up and approaches him at vampire speed. But NormanVicki catches him with a punch before Henry can make good his attack.

Norman (as Vicki): Oh, I like that. You’re hesitating ‘cause she looks like your girlfriend.

Henry doesn’t hesitate again and punches NormanVicki hard in the face but the demon just laughs it off and rams Henry’s head into the wall before pushing him back down to the floor. With Henry incapacitated for the moment NormanVicki retrieves his dagger and holds it up to admire.

Norman (as Vicki): Now that’s more like it. Hey, baby…

NormanVicki is interrupted as Henry moves at vampire speed and retakes the dagger, grabbing the demon around the waist and holding the dagger up to NormanVicki’s throat.

Norman (as Vicki): You know if you give me that back, I’ll even let you live.

Henry: This can summon a demon, I wonder if it can kill one too. Let’s find out.

Norman (as Vicki): You wouldn’t kill her, you couldn’t.

Henry: This isn’t her body it’s a lie.

Norman (as Vicki): Are you sure about that? It feels pretty real to me.

As he talks NormanVicki rubs his hips against Henry’s.

Norman (as Vicki): I mean I would know; I was just with her.

Henry: What did you do to her?

Norman (as Vicki): A gentleman never kisses and tells.

NormanVicki turns and licks Henry’s lips and Henry pulls away in disgust.

Norman (as Vicki): Oops, just did.

Henry: Whoever you are, whatever you are, it’s time to die.

Vicki slams the front door open, interrupting Henry.

Vicki: Henry!

NormanVicki uses the opportunity to throw Henry to the ground again, leaving him lying on the floor clutching the dagger as NormanVicki and Vicki approach each other.

Vicki: You really shouldn’t have stolen my shape.

Norman (as Vicki): It’s not like you’re having any fun with it.

NormanVicki and Vicki fight as Henry watches, still trying to recover, on the floor. Vicki’s markings begin to glow and she manages to throw a confused NormanVicki away from her.

Henry: (whispered) Who are you?

Norman reverts back to his normal form and looks derisively at Henry.

Norman: You people forget so soon.

Vicki: Norman!

Norman: Ding! Gold star. Now who says blondes are stupid huh?

Vicki: Not a real blonde.

Norman glares at Vicki for a moment and then shifts into bat form, the flock of bats flying out of Henry’s penthouse without the prize they came for. Vicki runs to Henry, who is still laid out on the floor.

Vicki: Henry! Henry, are you okay?

Henry: I’ll live. You?

Vicki: That depends, were you just at my apartment, kissing me?

Henry: If I was you’d remember it.

Vicki: Oh, blech, blaw! I really need some mouthwash.

Henry: (reaches up to the corner of Vicki’s mouth, where blood is) You’re blee… You’re bleeding.

Vicki: I’d hate to waste it.

Vicki leans down and kisses Henry, letting him drink her blood for a few moments before Henry pushes her away.

Henry: Stop… demon to stop.

Vicki: Well, at least he didn’t get the knife.

Henry: It’s not over. He knows where it is now; he’ll come back for it.

Vicki: Oh god, I have to warn Coreen.

Coreen is back at the office doing some filling when she receives a visit from Camille, the friendly psychic.

Camille: Coreen, I was hoping you’d be here.

Coreen: Camille! You’re okay. Vicki was worried about you.

Camille: I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?

Coreen: It’s just like you said, the demon’s back. It’s after Vicki and we thought it might come after you too.

The office phone begins to ring and Coreen moves to answer it.

Coreen: Just a sec that might be her.

As Coreen moves to the phone Camille shifts back to Norman and he puts his claw hand over Coreen’s, preventing her from answering the phone and putting his still human hand over her mouth, stifling a scream.

Norman: Yeah, it probably is.

Norman answers the phone as he holds a struggling Coreen with one hand.

Norman: Vicki Nelson investigations, this is Coreen speaking. How may I help you?

Vicki can clearly hear Coreen struggle in the background as she listens to Norman.

Vicki: What are you doing there?

Norman: Oh just visiting an old friend. She’s gonna come back to my place. You want to join us?

Coreen: (yelling into the phone as she pulls Norman’s hand away) Vicki, don’t come!

Vicki: Don’t you hurt her Norman!

Norman: You bring me that dagger and she’s all yours. (Yelling as Vicki doesn’t answer) Vicki! I’m not fooling around with you anymore, okay? I need this. Oh, do I need this. And so does Coreen. Wear something nice.

Norman slams the phone down and licks the side of Coreen’s face as she screams into his hand. Vicki closes her phone and sighs heavily as she realizes what this new turn of events means.

Vicki: (whispered) Oh… dammit!

At the morgue Mike, Kate and Mohadevan are looking at the real and very dead Camille Stokes.

Mike: This is the same killer isn’t it?

Mohadevan: I believe so. Same pattern, same level of violence.

Mike: Where’d they find her?

Mohadevan: At a dumpster near Bloor and Spadina. She’s been dead three, four days.

Mike: I don’t suppose she has a name, does she?

Mohadevan: Everyone has a name. But, fortunately for us our friend had a record.

Mike: Oh, consorting with the devil, huh?

Mohadevan: Detective, please, not in front of the client.

As Mike rolls his eyes, Mohadevan continues.

Mohadevan: Credit card fraud, forgery, domestic violence. Her jacket’s several pages long. Her name’s Camille Stokes. (At Mike’s surprised look) You knew her?

Mike: Vicki did. Have any idea where she lived?

Mohadevan: On Lunnigan. I think it was…

Mike: 52 Lunnigan?

Mohadevan: How did you know?

Mike is saved from answering by the ringing of his cell phone and he jumps to answer it.

Mike: Just a sec.

Mike moves away from Mohadevan and Kate and takes Vicki’s call. Vicki is standing with Henry by his car.

Vicki: Mike, we found the murderer. It’s Norman Bridewell.

Mike: Since when does hell have exit privileges?

Vicki: Well he wasn’t dead when he was taken so apparently he didn’t pass go.

Mike: All right, some of this is starting to make sense. Your psychic, Camille Stokes, she lived in Bridewell’s building. What do you want to bet he’s still connected to that pentagram in his old apartment somehow?

Vicki: There’s no such thing as coincidences these days. Mike, he’s got Coreen.

Mike: All right, listen Vicki, I’m gonna go in after her.

Vicki: Not alone.

Mike: Look, I can’t exactly call a SWAT team in on this one.

Vicki: This is my fight.  He wants me and if he doesn’t get me, he’s gonna kill Coreen. I will meet you there.

Mike: No, Vicki? Vick! Oh, dammit.

Mike hangs up the phone and turns to find Kate right behind him and Mohadevan watching interestedly. Mohadevan walks away as Kate confronts her partner.

Kate: Were you ever gonna let me in on what’s going on? We’re supposed to be working on this together.

Mike: It’s complicated.

Kate: But not so complicated that you can’t bring Vicki into it. I can’t pretend to understand your relationship with her but I don’t know why you’re cutting me out.

Mike: Kate, don’t do this, all right? I’m in a lose lose situation here.

Kate: That’s what I’m saying to you. It doesn’t have to be.

Mike: I will fill you in as soon as I can.

Kate: Fine. Play it on your own. But understand that when it hits the fan? You’re the one wearing it.

Kate walks away and Mike looks at Mohadevan for a minute before turning away, frustrated.

Mike: Great… Yup. Yup.

Mike walks out of the morgue as Mohadevan watches, silently taking everything in.

Act Six

At Norman’s old loft, all the players from the original demon summoning gather for the showdown. Coreen, once again, is tied up as Norman paces the loft, waiting for Vicki. She tries to undo the ropes on her hands.

Coreen: HELLLP……

Norman raises a hand and points at her and Coreen’s screaming is cut off in a gulp. She puts her hands to her throat as she tries to regain her voice.

Norman: It worked. I just learned that spell right here. How to stop a screaming queen. Pretty cool, huh?

Coreen: You’re supposed to be dead.

Norman: Yeah, pretty much. But uh… that’s all relative now isn’t it?

Coreen: You don’t have to do this.

Norman: The stuff that I did… I can’t go back Coreen. I gotta play this out, all the way. Besides, come on. It’s all gonna be over soon, right? Imagine it, you and me.

Coreen: What is it, the end of the world or something?

Norman: No, not for me. Not for you either, if you would just play nice Coreen. Okay? I like you. I like you a lot.

Coreen: You killed people!

Norman: There’s billions more where they come from, trust me, okay?

Coreen: (whispered) Are you gonna kill me?

Norman: I don’t know. Death sucks. Yeah… but then again, you would make a wicked hot demon.

Outside, Henry is thanking a man and tucking something into his jacket as he approaches Vicki.

Henry: It’s done.

Vicki: You really think this is gonna work?

Henry: You have to have faith, Vicki.

Henry walks away and Vicki looks at the mysterious man for a moment before following him. They enter Norman’s loft and ascend the stairs cautiously.

Vicki: Well, here we go again? Is she in there?

Henry: I can smell her. There’s no need for stealth, he knows we’re here.

They enter the room where Norman has the pentagram ringed with candles, making the room look like it had once before. He sits next to a still tied Coreen, one arm around her.

Norman: Hi guys. You took your time. I was going to start without you.

Vicki: Yeah, that’s an empty threat Norman. You need the dagger and you need me.

Norman: So did you bring it?

Henry: (holds up the dagger) We kept our end of the bargain, now let her go.

Norman: Oh, no! Dagger first and I would like Vicki to bring it to me.

Henry: Take me instead.

Norman: No, you know that’s not what I need.

Vicki: Henry, give it to me.

Henry: Vicki this might not work.

Vicki takes the dagger and begins to approach Norman but is stopped by Mike who comes in, gun drawn and trained on Norman.

Mike: Vicki no! Let her go, Bridewell.

Norman: Well, who the hell are you? You think uh… shooting me is gonna stop me?

Mike: It might make me feel better.

Norman laughs and then uses his powers to throw Mike and Henry up against the wall and hold them there.

Norman: Now, excuse me. I have a little ritual thingy here to take care of okay? We can argue about this later. Vicki, would you just give it to me?

Vicki: Okay, Norman, we’ll play it your way. You want the dagger? Here it is.

Vicki throws it straight for Norman’s heart and he flinches away but comes up with it in his hands.

Norman: Nice throw! All right, here we go. (from closed captioning) Corpus malefactorum (intelligible) asoulto et obaedirae.

As Norman speaks the ritual he holds the knife to Coreen’s throat and the floor opens up to admit Astaroth.

Norman: It’s time, Vicki. (To Coreen) Go!

Norman lets Coreen go and she runs behind Vicki

Vicki: Run Coreen! Get out of here!

Coreen: Not without you.

Norman: That’s the spirit. Use that! Now let’s finish this, Vicki.

Norman pulls Vicki to him and continues his summoning spell

Norman: (from closed captioning) Appareo pro mihi ut ego may proficio meus votum terminus! Yes!

Norman slices Vicki’s hand and lets her blood fill the chalice. But the dagger seems to be affecting him. As the blood drips into the chalice from the dagger it heats up and Norman looks at Vicki in shock.

Norman: What did you do!

Vicki: Had the dagger blessed by a priest on the way over.

Norman wheezes as he watches the swirling vortex in the middle of the pentagram begin to flash unnaturally.

Norman: Oh crap!

Mike and Henry are both released from the spells holding them to the wall and they fall to the floor.

Vicki: It’s over Norman!

Norman: Not yet!

Norman holds the dagger up, intending to kill Vicki but Henry sees Norman’s plan and uses his superior speed to turn the dagger onto Norman himself, stabbing him in the chest. Henry and Vicki watch as Norman looks at his chest and then at the two of them.

Norman: (To Henry) You think this is over? (To Vicki) You felt it. All the crazy things that have been drawn to you since we met? You’re the doorway Vicki and whether you like it or not? Astaroth’s gonna come knocking.

Norman pulls up Vicki’s wrist as he talks to her.

Norman: These marks. You think they’re a curse? They’re a gift. You just have to embrace us, Vicki. And you can have anything that you want. (Indicates Henry) Even him.

Vicki looks at Henry and then turns back to Norman, pulls the dagger out of his chest and then punches Norman square in the face, sending him hurtling toward the now closing Vortex.

Norman: I will be back!

With Norman once again inside, the vortex closes completely. Vicki cradles her injured hand as she gives Henry the dagger back. Mike holsters his gun as Coreen holds out her still bound hands towards Vicki.

Mike: God, I hate it when that happens!

Coreen: (as Vicki unties her) Vicki.

Vicki: What?

Coreen: Thank you. I didn’t think anybody could stop it. I thought he was gonna kill me and take me with him.

Vicki: Well, let’s just hope he stays down this time.

Henry approaches with the dagger, grimoire and chalice.

Vicki: What are you gonna do with those?

Henry: The same thing I should have done from the beginning. We can destroy them together.

Vicki: Good.

Mike: Yeah, well that’s all well and good but I’ve got three unsolved homicides I gotta deal with.

Vicki: Well, think of the bright side. It could have been (indicates Coreen, herself and Mike) four, five, six.

Mike: Yeah, I’ll be sure to tell Crowley that. Hey, how’s your hand?

Vicki: Oh, it’ll be all right.

Mike: All right. Hey, come on, Coreen. Let’s take a closer look at those cuts.

Mike and Coreen leave Vicki and Henry alone in the room.

Henry: I’m concerned what Norman might have done while he was acting as me.

Vicki: Oh, not much.  Yeah, I knew it was him right away.

Henry: Really? ‘Cause he said he knew what you felt like. He said he had just been with you.

Vicki: Okay, he might have fooled me for, like, a second.

Henry: How far did that second take him?

Vicki: Oh come on, don’t get any crazy ideas. You know demons, they lie.

Henry: Of course.

Vicki: Oh! He got you too.

Henry: Vicki, maybe we should just forget this ever happened.

Vicki: Absolutely.

Vicki takes a last look around the room before letting Henry lead her away.

End Norman
