TRANSCRIPT:

Scene:  Marina Park High- Hallway

Music:

(Quick shot of Trip walking down the hallway.  Cut to Ali looking at a notice board at the end of the same hallway.  Trip walks up behind her.)

Trip:  Ali?

(Ali turns towards him.)

Ali:  Oh.  Hi.

(Ali smiles.)

Trip:  Hey.

Ali:  Sorry.  I'm just trying to decide whether or not to sign up for the dance squad auditions.

Trip:  Oh you know uh, Bryan's handling the music.

Ali:  Yeah, he's. . .  friends with all those girls.

Trip:  I'll put you down.

(Trip takes the pen from Ali's hand.)

Ali:  No no no!  Just. . . forget it.

(She waves it off and puts the pen back.  Trip watches her walk away.)

Scene:  Marina Park High- Parking Lot

(Three men, who are definitely not high school students, are in the parking lot.  One of them has a picture of Trip.  He sees Trip on a landing up above them unlocking his bike.  Trip has no idea they're there.  Cut to a bird's eye view of the goons.  The one with the picture starts to walk towards the stairs.  Trip is carrying his bike down the same stairs.  They meet halfway.)

Goon:  Trip, right?

Trip:  Yeah.

Goon:  We need to talk.

Trip:  'Bout what?

Goon:  In private.  Over here.  Let's go.

(Goon grabs Trips arm and pulls him.  Trip drops his bike, uses martial arts to free himself and throws the goon down the remaining steps.  He grabs his bike and gets away.  The two guys who stayed at the car get up and chase him, but the Goon stops them, clutching his side where he was hit.)

Goon:  You're gonna regret that, man!

(Trip stops a safe distance away and watches the three men leave.)

[Opening Credits]

Scene:  Martial Arts School

(The class is circling around Tom counterclockwise.)

Tom:  Round round round.  Change.

(Trip walks in.)

Trip:  Sorry I'm late.

Tom:  Okay, let's pair off.  Trip, you work with Tory.

Tory:  You okay?  You look kinda weirded out.

Trip:  I'm fine.

(They get into position.)

Tom:  Okay.  I want to approach this a little bit differently.  I want you to take your time.  Breathe in.  Forget about everything but what's happening in this room.  Slower.  Eyes alert.  Always be aware of your surroundings.

Bryan:  If I go any slower, I'm gonna fall asleep.

Tom:  The goal is to push beyond the way you've seen these palm changes in the past.  Master Li says 'doing what is difficult in life is the challenge, but as long as we do the bast that we can do life will unfold as it should'.  That's what we're trying to do here.

(Shot of Ali practicing.)

Tom:  Eyes follow the hand.  Eyes follow the hand.  Okay, that's good.  Practice this all on your own.  I'll see you all tomorrow.

(Tom brings his hands together and bows.  The class follows.)

Scene:  Courtroom

(Claire is sitting next to her mom and Phillip and their lawyer and staring at her feet.  Tom and his lawyer are on the other side.  Note:  In the opening shot where we see the Rogers family from behind Claire is definitely on the end, but during close ups she is between her mom and Phillip.)

Judge Wynne:  Too often we forget in all of this legal wrangling that what we're here to decide is the fate of a child.  My job is to determine what's in the best interests of Claire Rogers.  So if neither party objects, I would like to spend a few moments with Claire.

Tom:  Yeah, sure.

Judge Wynne:  Alright then, we'll take a brief recess while I see her in my chambers.

(Judge Wynne stands.)

Bailiff:  All rise.

(They do and Claire makes her way to the judge.)

Phillip:  You happy now Change?

Tom:  I'll be happy when I can see my daughter.

Beth:  How can this be good for her?  Putting her in this position.

Tom:  You did this.  With your fancy lawyers.  We could have worked it out.  I'm her father.

Phillip:  Oh, you're an excellent role model.  Dope dealer.  Hong Kong prison alum.

(Beth puts up a hand to stop Phillip.)

Tom:  That's you're only trump card, isn't it?  Doesn't matter that I was innocent.

Phillip:  If you think you're going to walk out of here with Christmas and summer vacations, you're more of a fool than I thought.

Tom:  I was also planning on alternate weekends as well.

(Phillip scoffs and gives Tom a Yeah-Right look.  Tom mimics him.)

Scene:  Side Of A Road

(Honestly, I'm not too sure where they are.  It doesn't seem to be a parking lot.  They're downtown somewhere where a lot of buildings are.  Tory is trying to start her bike and having no luck.  Trip sees her.)

Trip:  Sounds like the battery.

Tory:  Yeah.  I left my headlights on last night.  Guess I didn't run it long enough to recharge it.

Trip:  Jump start it.  Just uh, stand on the pegs.

Tory:  I know how to do it.

(Tory gets back on the bike and Trip gets behind it.)

Trip:  I'll push.

Tory:  What do you know about motorcycles, anyway?

Trip:  I grew up around them.

Tory:  What?

Trip:  What?  You thought you were the only motorhead around here?  Alright, you ready?

(Tory is standing up and Trip begins pushing the bike down the street.)

Trip:  Ready?  Hit it!

(Tory gets her bike started.  Trip watches her ride for a second then he runs back to where they started.  Tory circles back.  She comes to a stop in front of him.  He hands her her helmet.)

Tory:  Thanks.

Trip:  You know uh. . .you need a battery charger.

Tory:  I know, I can't afford one.

Trip:  Well, I might have a charger you can use.

Tory:  Really?  Where?

Trip:  You're gonna have to give me a ride.

Tory:  Okay.

(Looks at him, then at the seat behind her.)

Scene:  Marina Park High- Gym

Music:

(Dance squad auditions.  Two girls from the current team are showing the hopefuls the routine.  Bryan has his music equipment set up.  Ali walks in.)

Ali:  Hey, Bryan.

Bryan:  Oh hey Ali.

Ali:  Did you see I put myself on the try out list?

Bryan:  Oh, yes I did.

Ali:  Were they just doing the audition routine?

Bryan:  Oh yeah.  They work out the moves, then they show the other girls.

Ali:  Do you think you could introduce me to one of them? I mean I don't know any of those girls.

Bryan:  You. . . you sure you wanna do this?

Ali:  What?  You don't think I'm good enough?

Bryan:  No no Ali, I'm sure you're great.  But here's the hard cold facts:  It's been Kim, Dakota, Amber and Danielle for the last two years.  They own this thing.

Ali:  Oh.

Bryan:  I'm just saving you the disappointment, that's all.

Ali:  No.  I appreciate the heads up.  Why don't you just. . . take me off the list.

Bryan:  You sure?

Ali:  Yeah.  It seems like a waste of time.

Scene:  Outside A Junkyard

Music:

(Trip is unlocking a chain link fence with his key while Tory waits a little ways behind him on her bike.  The gate swings open and Tory starts to wheel her bike in.)

Trip:  Here.

(Trip tries to help her.)

Tory:  No no no.  It's okay.

(Trip settles for walking beside her.  He leads her into a large garage/workshop.)

Trip:  Hey, ya know what?  Just park it right out here.

(Trip starts looking through things.)

Tory:  So how do you know so much about motorcycles, anyway?

Trip:  Slave labor for my old man.  When I was about ten he put me to work.  The payoff was though sometimes he let me ride the bikes a drive the cars after I fixed 'em.

(While he's talking, he's hooking Tory's bike to a battery charger.)

Tory:  Have you heard from him?

Trip:  You mean does he send postcards from prison?

Tory:  I'll take that a no.

(Lifts a tarp off of something.  It's another bike.)

Tory:  What?  You have a Dacoti Monster 900?  Holy cow.

(Trip is staring at her a smiling.)

Tory:  What?

Trip:  Just impressed.

Tory:  What do you expect?  My dad was a motorcycle cop.  Is this your dad's?

Trip:  Yeah, he won it in a bet.  He's uh, usually too wasted to ride it.

Tory:  Well do you ever ride it?

Trip:  You kidding?  If he knew I touched the tarp, he'd kill me.

Tory:  How's he gonna know?

Scene:  City Streets

Music:  "A Sorta Fairy Tale" by Tori Amos.

(Montage of scenes of Tory and Trip racing.  He pulls up along side her a smiles.  Does a wheelie (is that even the right term?) and passes her.  They pull to a stop.)

Scene:  Junkyard

(Night.  Song from before continues.)

Tory:  I can't believe you can ride.

Trip:  You know when I said I uh, never touched his bike before?

Tory  Yeah.

Trip:  I lied.

(Tory laughs.  They have a moment where it seems like they're gonna kiss.)

Tory:  I gotta go.

Trip:  Bye.

Scene:  Junkyard

(Trip is rolling his bike when he hears people inside the garage.  He goes in to investigate and sees someone in there.  He ducks down to avoid being seen and starts creeping forward.  He bumps a tool and it clatters to the ground.)

Goon:  Well look who'd here?

(Trip looks up and the good shines a flashlight on his face.)

Goon:  Where is it, kid?

(Trip looks like he has no idea what they're talking about.  He tries to leave but a guy blocks his exit and the other two come closer.)

Goon:  Where's the money?

Trip:  What money?

Goon:  You remember what I said before?

(Trip shakes his head and gets punches for it.  There's a fight.  Trip manages to get in about two good hits before he's grabbed and punched in the stomach a few times.  He's shoved into the side of a car and falls to the ground.)

Goon:  You go see your father.  Tell him Neil's out of Soledad stopped by to get his money.  You got three days.

[Commercial Break]

Scene:  Outside Junkyard

(Tory rides up and goes in.)

Tory:  Hey Trip!

(She looks around and sees him on the ground.)

Tory:  Trip!

Trip:  Hey.  What are you doing back?

Tory:  I forgot my backpack.  What the hell happened?

Trip:  I got jumped.

Tory:  By who?

Trip:  I don't know.

(Tory grabs something out of her backpack.)

Trip:  Hey, what are you doing?!

(He reaches to stop her, but can't move too well and clutches his side.)

Tory:  Sit up, sit up.

Trip:  Tory, please.  Don't call anybody.  I'm fine.

Tory:  What are you taking about?  I'm calling the police, Trip.

(Trip is shaking, obviously terrified.  He grabs her arm.)

Trip:  No.

Tory:  You know what then, fine.  At least call Tom.  Look, he's got friends on the force okay?  He'll be able to help you.

Trip:  Look, I don't want him getting involved.

Tory:  Why not?

Trip:  'Cuz he has is own problems.  Look, he's done everything for me.  He. . . he went and took me in.  He put me up.  Look, I'm not dumpin' this on him.

Tory:  Look Trip, what's going on?

Trip:  Three guys came in.  And they were looking for my father.  Trust me. . . he probably deserved it.

Tory:  Yeah, maybe he did.  But you didn't.

Scene:  Tom's Place

(Most likely here, at least.  Master Li and Tom are at a table with a flower pot in the middle.)

Master Li:  No cut this one.

(Master Li points and Tom cuts.)

Tom:  You know you don't have to come over here to take care of the plants.

Master Li:  Orchids.  Don't you wanna see me?

Tom:  Of course!  I just meant I can take care of them for you.

Master Li:  My orchids.  My responsibility.  Ah, cut this one.

Tom:  Wouldn't it just be easier to move them to your place?

Master Li:  But they live here!  They like it here.  Who knows if they want change where they are most comfortable for someplace they don't know at all.  Oh, more water please.

(Master Li hands Tom his watering can and Tom goes to fill it up.)

Tom:  My lawyer got me an emergency hearing.

Master Li:  Oh, very good news.

Tom:  I'm not sure.  The judge took Claire into the chambers and asked her what she wanted to do.  What if Claire's like your orchids?  What if she is so comfortable in her life that she doesn't wanna try someplace new?

Master Li:  Tom Chang, I have always told you everything unfolds as it should.  If you show your daughter you want to give her your attention and your love, then you will have done all you can do.

Scene:  Martial Arts School

Tom:  Wrist to wrist.

(Two students stand as he tells them to, circling around with the hands in the center.)

Tom:  And switch.

(In the background we see Tory and Trip together.  Trip clutches his side in pain and doubles over.  Tom sees.)

Tom:  Trip, you okay?

Trip:  Yeah, fine.

Tom:  Let's see.

(Tom gestures to his side.)

Trip:  Yeah, it's nothing.

(Tom lifts up his shirt enough to see a baseball sized bruise there.)

Trip:  Fell off my dad's motorcycle.

Tom:  Can I talk to you a second?

(Tom leaves and Trip follows.)

Tom:  Continue on your own.

(Ali comes over to Tory.)

Ali:  Tory, what's going on with trip?

Tory:  I don't know.

(Tom and Trip are out of earshot of the rest of the class.)

Tom:  I want you to feel that you can trust me.

Trip:  What do you mean?

Tom:  I don't believe that you fell off a motorcycle.  You're staying at my place, I'm looking after you.  I want you to know that if you have a problem, you can come to me with it.

Trip:  I appreciate that.

Tom:  So, do you wanna tell me what's wrong?

Trip:  This is between me and my father.  That's all I can tell you right now.  Thank you.

(Quick cut to Tory waiting outside somewhere.)

Scene:  Jail

(Trip and his father are separated by a glass wall and talking on phones.)

Trip:  Why does he think we have his money?

Mr. Brady:  Cuz we do.  I was supposed to pay him the night you got me arrested for disciplining you.

Trip:  'Disciplining' me?

Mr. Brady:  What are you gonna do?  Whine now?  Hmm?

Trip:  No.

Mr. Brady:  You little girl.

Trip:  How much do you owe?

Mr. Brady:  Thirty grand.

Trip:  What?  He says I have three days.

Mr. Brady:  We were doing business together.  Don't you get it?  He stole the cars and I'd break 'em down and we'd send the parts down to Mexico.

Trip:  You were running a chop shop?

Mr. Brady:  How do you think I fed ya?  Hmm?  Put a roof over your head, shoes on your feet?

Trip:  I didn't know.

Mr. Brady:  Welcome to the real world, kid.

Trip:  You didn't pay him?

Mr. Brady:  No.  I got locked up, remember?  Huh?  You need to go to this restaurant called El Conquistador.  Ask for Hector.  He owes me the thirty.  Get the money from Hector and then give it all to Neil.  All of it.  If ya don't, he'll kill ya.  Kill ya dead.  Oh an uh, check the rafters.  Might find a friend up there.

Trip:  Thanks.

Mr. Brady:  Oh Trip, it's good to see ya.  Be careful.

Scene:  Outside Jail

(Tory is waiting outside for Trip.  He comes out and grabs a helmet.)

Tory:  What happened?

Trip:  I'll tell ya later.  Let's get out of here.

(They drive off.)

Scene:  Outside Martial Arts School

(One side of the school has a deck that looks out over the water.  Ali is out on the deck and Tom joins her.  She's stretching.)

Ali:  Hey.

Tom:  Hey.  Heard you were trying out for the dance squad team.  That's great, Ali.

Ali:  No, not anymore.  I changed my mind.

Tom:  How come?

Ali:  Oh you know.  It's been the same four girls for the last two years.

Tom:  It'll be the same four girls until someone comes along who's better.  Is that really the reason?

Ali:  Nobody here knows me yet.  I don't wanna introduce myself as the Dance Squad Wannabe Loser.

Tom:  What do you love about dancing?

Ali:  You know it feels in martial arts when you've really got the moves?  You feel alive and outa your head.

Tom:  Yeah, I know.

Ali:  That's what it's like for me when I dance.

Tom:  Then you have to give yourself a shot.

Ali:  I had a shot once.  When I was twelve.  A try out of the San Francisco Ballet.

Tom:  Oh really?  What happened?

Ali:  I froze.  Just bombed.  Ali in the headlights.  My mom felt so bad she took me out of the dance school.

Tom:  You did the best that you could do that day.  It doesn't mean anything more than that.  Don't ever let it.  Go for it.  Go for it!  Come on!

Scene:  Marina Park High- Gym

Music:

(Dance Squad Tryouts.  A group of girls are dancing in the center of the gym.  Ali is with them.  Bryan has his music equipment there too.  A girl from the squad, Kim, is watching from the sidelines.)

Kim:  Okay, that's it.  Those are the basic moves you'll need and then there'll be a two minute solo.  Two minutes.  Please make sure you don't go over 'cuz we will cut you off.  See you all at the auditions.

(A girl from the squad walks up to Ali.  She's not named on the show and I couldn't find her character's name anywhere.  She's one of the other three girls on the dance team.)

Dance Team Girl:  You're good.  You learn really quickly.

Ali:  I'm just glad I could keep up.

Dance Team Girl:  You want someone to practice with?

Ali:  Sure.

(They leave together.)

Scene:  Junkyard

(Trip is searching the rafters.  He finds something wrapped in a cloth.  He unwraps the object and we see it's a gun.)

[Commercial Break]

Scene:  Martial Arts School

(Tory runs in.  She sees Bryan upstairs in the weight room.  She rushes up to him.)

Tory:  Bryan, we need to talk.

Bryan:  About what?

Tory:  Trip.  He's about to do something seriously stupid.

Bryan:  What?

Scene:  Martial Arts School- Locker Room

(Trip is in there holding the gun.  He puts it in the waistband of his jeans and turns around.  Bryan is standing there.)

Bryan:  What the hell are you doing?

Trip:  I got something to do.

Bryan:  I'm not letting you go through with this.

Trip:  Through with what?

Bryan:  Tory told me.

(Trip slams the locker door.)

Bryan:  Hey man, she's your friend.  And so am I.  So you think you're just gonna take the money from one guy and give it to another guy?

Trip:  Why not?

Bryan:  You take that and you end up in jail for sure.  Now come on Trip, give me the gun, man.

(Bryan slowly reaches for the gun and takes it.)

Bryan:  Look, I got your back, man.

(Bryan wraps the gun up in a shirt and puts it back in the locker.)

Bryan:  So where we going?

Scene:  Martial Arts School- Main Practice Room

Music:

(Claire walks in and timidly looks around.  Tory is the first to spot her and goes over to her.  She doesn't know it's Claire.)

Tory:  Hi, can I help you with something?

Claire:  No, that's okay.

(Tory puts two and two together and knocks on Tom's office window.)

Tory:  Mr. C, you might wanna come out here.

(She goes back to Claire.)

Tory:  Can you wait here just a sec?

Tom:  Hi!

Claire:  This is a mistake.  I should go.  Don't worry, I wont tell mom of Phillip I was here.

Tom:  Just. . .just wait a second.  I'll give you a tour of the school.  How 'bout that?

(Claire looks unsure.  She looks back at Tory, who smiles.)

Tom:  Come on.

(He leads her off.)

Scene:  Tom's Kitchen

(Claire is sitting at the table and Tom is off screen.)

Tom:  Remember I used to cut your sandwiches into shapes?

Claire:  I thought mom did that.

Tom:  You wouldn't eat it unless I made a bunny or a heart.

Claire:  Or a gingerbread man.

(He sets two plates in front of them.)

Claire:  Have I been here before?

Tom:  Remember Master Li?  Well, when Master Li ran the place, I brought you here a few times.

(Claire's quiet for awhile.)

Tom:  What?

Claire:  Why didn't you ever remember Christmas?  Or my birthday?

Tom:  Honey, I wrote you letters every day.  You and your mom.  But your mom didn't wanna upset you so she decided it would be better not to give them to you.

Claire:  She told me that you left us.

Tom:  You know that's not true.  I wish you knew. . . how much I thought about you all that time.

Claire:  Yeah.

(Her pager beeps.)

Claire:  It's mom.  I gotta go.

Tom:  Hey, wait a second.  You gonna get home by yourself?

Claire:  Yeah.

Tom:  Well. . .um. .. thanks for coming, Claire.

Claire:  Thanks for the sandwich.

Scene:  Martial Arts School

Music:

(Tom and Master Li are working together.)

Master Li:  You wanna talk about it?

Tom:  No, just work on the form.

Scene: Marina Park High- Hallway

Music:

(Ali and the girl from before are practicing. Dance Team Girl is dancing and Ali is sitting on the floor watching.)

Ali:  Okay.  Okay.  Yeah yeah yeah.  I don't know what it is.

(Ali gets up to join her.)

Ali:  I have to get this.

(Ali is dancing while she's counting the beats.)

Ali:  Five six seven eight.  One two three and four.  Five six seven and eight.

Both:  One and two.

Dance Team Girl:  Right.  Right.  That was pretty good.

Ali:  Thanks.

Dance Team Girl:  Keep at it.  You'll get it.

Ali:  Hopefully.

Dance Team Girl:  Let me give you a piece of advice.  Take the other girls out of the equation.  Be yourself.  Show them who you are.

Ali:  Why are you doing this?  Helping me, I mean.

Dance Team Girl:  Because no one helped me when I was trying out.  Plus, I wanna get the bitch Kim off the squad.

(They laugh.)

Ali:  Oh my god.

Dance Team Girl:  Come on, try it one more time together?

(She hits the music and they start the routine again.)

Scene:  Outside El Conquistador

Music:

(Bryan and Trip pull up in a car.)

Trip:  You ready?

Bryan:  Yeah.

Trip:  Let's do it.

(They get out and walk into the restaurant.)

Waiter:  What you want, Franco?

Trip:  We're here to see Hector.

Waiter:  There's no Hector here.  Sorry.

Hector:  Let them come.  Está bien.

(They see that Hector is at a table in the back.  Trip and Bryan approach.)

Hector:  I'm Hector.

Trip:  Trip Brady.  Arnold's son.  And this is my friend Bri.

Bryan:  How you doing?

Hector:  Well, thank you for asking.  How you doing?

(Bryan and Trip take seats.)

Trip:  Um. . . my father send me because he said you have some money you owed him.

Hector:  He never sent you before.

Trip:  He's away.

Hector:  On business?

Trip:  Yeah, on business.

Hector:  I head he was away, away.

(He laughs and his men do as well.)

Hector:  So what are you, in high school?

Trip:  Yeah.

Hector:  And already making moves.  Fantastic.

Bryan:  He's not making any moves, yo.  He's just doing a favor for his father.

Hector:  Was I talking to you, yo?

Bryan:  I was. . .I was just saying. . .

Hector:  You were just interfering in another man's business.  See my associates?  You don't seem them interfering in my business, do you?

Trip:  Yeah, I don't really think he meant anything by it.  We just need to get back.

Bryan:  Yeah.  I. . .I didn't mean anything by it.  I was just. .

Trip:  If we could just get my father's money, please.

(Hector gives his men the okay to get the money.)

Hector:  You want a drink?

Trip:  No.  Thanks.

Hector:  I didn't mean drink, 'drink'.  I meant like a soda.  I wouldn't wanna break the law and lose my liquor license for serving minors.

Trip:  We’re good.

(An associate hands him the money.)

Trip:  Thank you.  Thank you very much.

Hector:  You're welcome.

(Trip and Bryan stand up.)

Hector:  Are you gonna count it?

Trip:  Should I?

Hector:  Only if you don't trust me.

Trip:  I trust you.

Hector:  Then have a good day.

Bryan:  Nice to meet you.

(Hector responds with body language.  Trip and Brian walk away.)

Scene:  Brian's Car

(The boys get in.  They look at the money as what just happened dawns on them.  They start to laugh.)

Trip:  We did it.

Bryan:  You're damn right we did!

Trip:  Whoo!  Just like Jackie and Chris.

Bryan:  Man, we all that!

(Cars comes around the corner directly at Bryan and Trip)

Trip:  Man, look out!

(Bryan yells and swerves.  They come to a stop.  Guys with guns knock on the windows.  The both roll them down.)

Thug One:  You hommes, didn't you see the signs?

Trip:  Signs?

Thug Two:  The toll signs, punk.  You gotta pay the toll to roll in out streets.

Brian:  Right.  How much?

Thug One:  Thirty.

Bryan:  Thirty, no problem.

Thug One:  Thousand.

Trip:  You gotta be kidding me.

(Thug One starts digging around for the money, including searching Trip.  He finds it inside his jacket.)

Thug One:  Not even close.

Thug Two:  Buenas noches.

Scene:  Tom's Office

(Tom is looking at a picture of a younger Claire.  Tory walks by his  open door, sees him in there and stops.  She knocks on the door.)

Tory:  Hey.

Tom:  Hey.

Tory:  She's beautiful.  You're daughter.

Tom:  Yeah she is.  Thanks.

Tory:  Well how'd it go?

Tom:  It was a good step.

Tory:  Good.

Tom:  Tory-

(Comes closer to the door.)

Tom:  -I just wanted to ask you about Trip.

Tory:  You're kinda putting me in a really weird position.  He asked me not to say anything to you.

Tom:  Okay.  Just tell me.  Does he need help?

(He takes her silence as confirmation.  He leaves his office and goes to Trip's room (I'm assuming) and sees he's not there.  He sighs.)

[Commercial Break]

Scene:  Junkyard Garage

(Trip is there.  He hears someone approaching, not realizing it's Tom.  He grabs a tool.)

Tom:  Hey, it's me.

(Trip puts the took down.)

Tom:  Let's talk.

Trip:  No.  I don't wanna bring you in the middle of this.  I just wanna leave.

Tom:  Look, if it's about you, I'm already in the middle of it.

Trip:  If I had told you the truth, you would have kicked be out anyway.

Tom:  I know the truth.  And I'm not gonna throw you out.  Let's go home.

Trip:  I'm sorry that I. . .didn't come to you in the first place.  Listen, my dad, he uh, he always made me feel trapped, just didn't see another way out.

Tom:  You're not a kid anymore Trip.  You're old enough to see your father for who he really is.  I know it's the hardest thing in life to see things in a new way.  It really is.  But if you can see your dad in a new light, I gotta believe anything is possible.

Trip:  With you.

Mr. Brady:  Oh.  You're a man now?

(Trip hangs up his phone and walks away.)

Mr. Brady:  Hey, is that it?  Hey!  I'm not through talking to you.  Come back here!  Hey, hey, hey come back here!  I'm not through with you!

Scene:  Courtroom

Judge Wynne:  I find the temporary restraining order against Tom Chang, keeping him one hundred yards from his daughter Claire, to be excessive and unnecessary.  I am withdrawing that order.  As for visitation.  I have interviewed Claire and found her to be bright and articulate, so I am going to let her wishes guide my decision.  Claire, do you still feel the same today as you did when we spoke?

Claire:  Yes.

Judge Wynne:  Then it is my decision to respect Claire's wishes.  She asks this court to give her more time to make this important decision.  Custody will remain with Elizabeth and Phillip Rogers.  There will be no visitation rights for the biological father Thomas Chang.
