THE FOLLOWING TAKES PLACE BETWEEN 9pm AND 10pm
[Shot of the airfield. Bomb
squad guys carry in the fake bomb.]
BSG: Okay, let’s go. Easy
with this. Alright, we got it. Let’s go. Outta the way.
[Some guards bring in Omar.]
GUARD 1: Let’s go. Inside.
Come on.
JACK: You’re gonna have
to process all of the prints here. Bring in your mobile equipment; we don’t
have time to send anything back. (To Omar) You! Where’s the real bomb? Where’s
the real bomb?! Do you understand me? Do you speak any English? Do you speak
any English?
[Omar continues to look
scared.]
JACK: Secure him and search
him. I’ll get us a translator.
AGENT: Yes sir.
JACK (into radio: This is
Jack Bauer requesting a translator in Hanger 21. I repeat; I am requesting
a translator in Hanger 21.
[Cut to George Mason at
CTU at his desk. He’s rubbing his head. As he pulls his hand away a clump
of hair comes with it. He looks in the mirror and sees how sick he really
is.]
CHICK ON INTERCOM: Mr. Mason?
We finally got through to Jack Bauer. He’s on line 2.
GEORGE: Good.
JACK: George?
GEORGE: Yeah, ah…how’s the
search going over there Jack?
JACK: Still no new leads
on where the bomb is.
GEORGE: What about that
plane you found the decoy in?
JACK: It’s clean. I need
you to use reverse time satellite. Try and trace the plane back to its original
location. That’s where they would have loaded the decoy bomb. See if you can
find out who the players are from there. (Points to something on the decoy
bomb to show the other agents.) Here and here.
[Shot of George looking
like he’s gonna throw up.]
JACK: George? You with me?
George? George can you hear me? Are you alright?
GEORGE (inaudible): Yeah.
JACK: George?!
GEORGE: Yeah, I’m on it.
Reverse time satellite, yeah.
JACK: George…I am really
sorry about everything that’s happened to you today. I am. But if you can’t
think clearly you need to step aside and let someone else take over command.
We need someone in command now.
GEORGE: There isn’t anybody
else, Jack.
JACK: What about Tony?
GEORGE: I got it together;
I can handle it. Alright?
JACK: Yeah, okay.
GEORGE: We do have another
problem.
JACK: What?
GEORGE: The six dead commandos
you found? Well, it turns out there was a seventh. He may have escaped.
JACK: Well, that would make
sense. I examined all of their gunshot wound. Three of the commandos definitely
knew who the shooter was. Their wounds were front entry; at close range. The
other three showed signs of a struggle which would indicate to me that they
had time to react.
GEORGE: So the seventh didn’t
escape.
JACK: Right, he was the
shooter. George, I gotta go. Get me an ID on the seventh commander as soon
as you can.
GEORGE: Yeh. I’m working
on it.
[They hang up.]
JACK: What have you got?
AGENT: Wallet. Some cash.
No ID. No credit cards.
OMAR: (Something urgent
in Arabic.)
JACK: Sonuvabitch wants
to talk. Where’s my translator?
[Cut to CTU holding room
with Bob Warner looking worried. An agent comes in with a phone.]
AGENT: Mr. Warner? It’s
your daughter, Kate.
BOB WARNER (on phone): Kate?
KATE WARNER (through phone):
Dad?
BOB: Kate. Where are you?
KATE: I’m fine. I’m at an
airport.
BOB: The airport? What are
you leaving the city?
KATE: No, not yet. I’m helping
one of the agents with an investigation. Dad…did they tell you about Reza?
BOB: Yeah, I-I can’t believe
what they’re saying about Marie. That she’s with these terrorists. That she
killed Reza.
KATE: I know, Dad.
JACK: Kate.
KATE: Dad, hold on a second.
JACK: It wasn’t the bomb.
We arrested the pilot and I need your help as a translator. Come on.
KATE: Ah, Dad, I’m gonna
have to call you back.
BOB: Are you okay?
KATE: Yeah, I’m fine. Dad,
I, ah, I love you.
BOB: I love you, too, sweetheart.
[Cut to President Palmer
and Mike Novick.]
MIKE NOVICK: What exactly
did Robert Stanton tell you?
PRESIDENT PALMER: That Sherry
was somehow involved in
MIKE: The nuclear threat?
PALMER: He didn’t elaborate.
That’s all he said.
[Palmer leaves Mike and
goes into a room where Sherry is waiting.]
SHERRY: David? They said
it was urgent. Is it about the bomb? Have they found it?
PALMER: Not yet. Sit down.
I just spoke to Roger Stanton. He confessed that he’s known about the bomb
for weeks.
SHERRY: For weeks? Why would
he withhold that from you?
PALMER: He said he wanted
to wait until the bomb was on US
soil before he intercepted it.
SHERRY: So he knows where
the bomb is.
PALMER: Well, the men he
had tracking it did. But they’re all dead. The bomb is still out there and
we don’t know where it is.
SHERRY: Oh my God. Oh my
God.
PAMLER: Am I telling you
something you already know?
SHERRY: What?
PALMER: Tell me now. Have
you done the unthinkable and put yourself in league with Roger Stanton?
SHERRY (rising): That’s
outrageous! Of course not! What did he say?
PALMER: Sit down.
SHERRY: Dav-
PALMER: Sit. Down.
[She sits.]
PALMER: He said that you
were involved. That you were working against me.
SHERRY: Well, he’s lying,
David! I never even met Roger Stanton until this afternoon!
PALMER: I know that’s not
true.
SHERRY: Well, then he’s
playing you! Whatever he’s doing, he’s doing it so you will believe that I’m
in-I’m, I-
PALMER: Stop it!
[Sherry walks away.]
PALMER: Sherry. Right now
we are teetering on the brink of a war that will lead to the deaths of millions
of people. We have to stop this disaster today. Right now. Before it begins.
If there is something you’re not telling. Anything that could help us find
this bomb. As President of the United
States I order you—no. No, as someone that
you claim you love. I’m asking you. Help me, Sherry.
SHERRY: I got a phone call.
A few months ago in the middle of the night from a friend of mine who is high
up in NSA. He told me that Roger Stanton wanted to speak to me first thing
in the morning and so…so we met at a park in Virginia.
PALMER: What did he want?
SHERRY: He wanted to recruit
me.
PALMER: To do what?
SHERRY: He wanted to know
he was loyal to you and who could be turned. He wanted…he wanted to know where
you were weak.
PALMER: And you told him.
SHERRY (inaudible): Yes.
But I only did it to gain his confidence. I was not aligning myself with him.
I was doing it for you.
[Palmer starts to walk away.]
SHERRY: David? David, I
know you don’t believe me but just give me thirty minutes, just thirty minutes
to prove to you that I’m telling the truth. That…that I did all of this to
protect you. Not to hurt you.
[Cut back to airport. Omar
speaking to Kate in Arabic. Jack is watching.]
OMAR: (Something in Arabic.)
KATE: I think he’s saying
he did it for his family. They promised them money.
JACK: Ask him who ‘they’
is.
KATE: (Asks something in
Arabic.)
[Omar cries and shakes his
head. Kate asks him again.]
OMAR: Saied Alee.
KATE: Sayed Ali.
JACK: Ask him if he knows
about a second bomb.
KATE: (Something in Arabic)
[Omar looks at her confused.]
OMAR: (something in Arabic
– most likely ”What?”)
KATE: I don’t think that
was right, um…I think we have different dialects.
JACK: It doesn’t matter;
just keep trying.
KATE (sighs): (Something
in Arabic.)
[Omar shakes his head.]
OMAR: (Something in Arabic
– like “I don’t understand what you’re saying.”)
KATE: (Asks something in
Arabic.)
BAKER: Jack. Translators
here.
[An agent enters with the
female translator.]
JACK (shaking her hand):
Jack Bauer.
MELINDA: Melinda Cahill
(I think)
JACK: Subjects there. Kate?
[Kate goes over to Jack.]
KATE: I’m really sorry,
Jack.
JACK: You did great. You
did great. Agent Baker’s going to take you back to the controlled area. I’ll
be there as soon as I can.
[Kate leaves with Baker.
Jack goes back to Melinda and Omar.]
JACK: Ask him if he knows
about a second bomb.
MELINDA: (Asks him in Arabic.)
OMAR: (Answers in Arabic.)
MELINDA: He said he doesn’t
know anything.
[Shot of Kate walking out
to the car with Baker. Kate looks over and sees a line of people filing into
another Hanger.]
KATE: Who are those people
over there?
BAKER: They’re locking down
the airport. Checking everyone.
[Another agent comes over
wanting to talk to Baker.]
BAKER (to Kate): Excuse
me for one second.
[Kate watches the people
and sees Marie with the black wig on. She goes after her.]
9:11:24, 9:11:25, 9:11:26…
9:15:37, 9:15:38, 9:15:39,
9:15:40, 9:15:41, 9:15:42…
[Cut to Lani’s house in
the woods. Shot to both of them in the bunker.]
KIM BAUER (upset): I can’t
believe the bomb went off. What did you hear? How many people?
LANI: I don’t know. The
transmission just went dead. You gonna be okay?
KIM: My dad. I need to get
in touch with my dad.
LANI: We will. But for right
now we have to stay down here where it’s safe. We have no idea which way that
radiation cloud is going to travel.
[Kim sobs.]
LANI: I’m gonna see if I
can pick something up on the shortwave radio, kay?
[Kim nods and cries silently
as Lani walks over to the radio. He puts the headphones on and turns the dial.]
MAN ON RADIO: LA’s favorite
all talk radio. All the time. Twenty-four seven. Well, it looks like the school
voucher debate is really beginning to heat up again here in the South.
[Lani pulls some cords from
the back of the radio so it stops transmitting. He takes off the headphones.]
KIM: What did they say?
LANI: I couldn’t get anything.
Radiation is interfering with the antenna. Could be hours before we’re able
to pick up anything.
KIM (sobbing): What’s going
to happen to us?
[LANI goes over to Kim to
comfort her.]
LANI: Ssh, it’s okay.
KIM: I’m scared too.
LANI: Don’t be scared. You
have nothing to be scared of. We’re safe down here. I promise.
[Cut to CTU. George Mason
walking down the hall. He sees a woman setting up a desk and goes over to
her.]
GEORGE: You must be the
new assistants op Division sent.
CARRIE: Carrie Turner. You
must be George Mason.
[She offers her hand for
him to shake. He goes to and then starts coughing quite grossly so she pulls
her hand away.]
GEORGE: Excuse me. (Coughs
again.)
CARRIE: You look worse than
I expected.
GEORGE: Something I can
help you with?
CARRIE: No, I’m pretty much
set. I’ve been following everything from Division. I’ll be taking over Paula’s
responsibilities so if there is anything you need the server to do, I’ll make
it happen.
GEORGE: Good. Situation
reports have changed in the part hour so, you have to refresh all the monitors.
CARRIE: Not a problem. Just
make sure everyone keeps their hands off my system.
GEORGE (amused): Okay. (He
turns to leave.)
CARRIE: Ah, Mr. Mason? Who
do I report to…directly?
GEORGE: You report to me.
CARRIE: No offense Mr. Mason
but rumor has it you’re not gonna be around much longer…so…who do I report
to?
GEORGE: Finally get someone
around here that I like and I’m not gonna be around to enjoy it. To Tony Almeida.
(he coughs) And Michelle Des- (coughs) -essler.
CARRIE: Did you say Michelle
Dessler?
GEORGE: Yes I did, why?
CARRIE: Ah, we worked together.
At district. I was…her boss then.
GEORGE: Aannndd...you’re
telling me this why?
CARRIE: It’ll be fine. It’s
not important.
[George looks like he’s
about to faint.]
CARRIE: Mr. Mason?
[And then he does.]
CARRIE: Oh my God. Mr. Mason?
Mr. Mason! Are you alright?
[She helps him sit up.]
GEORGE: Yeah.
[Cut to airport. Hanger
where everyone is being locked down. Kate is looking for Marie.]
AGENT: Thank you ladies
and gentlemen for your cooperation. We will try and get you out of here as
soon as we can.
[Kate looks around for Marie.
She sees her sneaking away.]
KATE: Marie!
[She rushes after her and
is stopped by another agent.]
AGENT: Whoa, excuse me.
You can’t go there.
KATE: What?
AGENT: I’m sorry but everyone
has to go through a search before they’re let go.
KATE: But that’s my sister,
it’s important.
AGENT: I’m sorry ma’am.
[Kate grabs the CTU badge
around her neck.]
KATE: Wait, here, um, I’m
with Jack Bauer. CTU.
AGENT: Okay, go on.
KATE: Thanks. Ah, can you
get in touch with Jack Bauer? Tell him Marie Warner is here. He’ll understand.
AGENT (into walkie-talkie):
Dispatch, we need to locate a Jack Bauer with CTU?
[Shot of Kate walking out
onto the tarmac looking for Marie. She sees her shadow and goes after her.
She hears a rattling in one of the planes, looks toward it. She dismisses
it and turns to walk away. Marie is standing behind her.]
KATE: Marie.
MARIE: I need your badge,
Kate.
KATE: Where have you been?
Everyone’s looking for you.
MARIE (pulling a gun and
aiming it at Kate’s head): You gotta give me your badge.
KATE: Marie-
MARIE: Shut up! You stupid
idiot. Why did you have to start snooping around?
KATE: What’s going on?
MARIE: You’ve always treated
me like I was some helpless, injured animal. Like I couldn’t get by without
you looking over me.
KATE: What happened to you?
MARIE:
I opened my eyes; that’s what happened to me. I was pathetic; just like you.
Until I met Sayed. Until I saw the lies and hypocrisy of my life. Of this
country. Of people like Dad who help the government. He works for the CIA,
Kate.
KATE: I know he does, so
what?
MARIE: So what? Do you have
any idea what kind of suffering they cause around the world?
KATE: Oh, please! What are
you, six-years-old? You think Dad is the enemy now? I can’t believe how ungrateful
you are.
MARIE: I should be grateful?
KATE: Yeah, absolutely.
Dad and I turned our lived upside down for you after mom died. This is what
we did it for? So you could be brainwashed by some lunatics? Wake up, Marie!
You’re about to become the biggest murderer in the history of this country!
[Marie slaps Kate and she
falls. Marie aims the gun at Kate again.]
KATE: What are you gonna
do?
MARIE: Give me your badge.
KATE: No.
MARIE: Fine.
[Marie takes a silencer
out of her pocket and attaches it to her gun.]
KATE: Marie, listen to me.
There’s a nucleus bomb in the city. Not matter what you believe, you don’t
want all those innocent people to die.
[She aims the gun again.]
MARIE: Give me the badge.
KATE: No. I don’t believe
you’d shoot me.
MARIE: I will…because this
is more important that your life. Or my life.
[She prepares to shoot when
a gunshot sounds and Marie is hit in the arm.]
MARIE: AH! OW!
JACK: Kate, stay down! Stay
down!
[Jack and more agents advance
on Kate and Marie.]
MARIE: OW! My arm! No!
JACK: Secure to weapon!
(To Kate) You alright?
KATE: Yeah.
[An agent turns Marie over
and cuffs her. Her wig comes off. She screams. Jack helps Kate to her feet.]
JACK: I take it that’s your
sister.
[Kate watches Marie screaming
in pain.]
9:23:42, 9:23:43, 9:23:44…
9:27:55, 9:27:56, 9:27:57,
9:27:58, 9:27:59, 9:28:00…
[Shot of Marie, still screaming,
bring dragged into the Hanger. Kate and Jack follow.]
KATE: Why don’t you treat
her? At least give her something for the pain.
JACK: I will as soon as
she tells us what she knows.
KATE: You can’t let her
suffer like this.
JACK: Kate. You’re gonna
have to let me do this my way. You’re gonna have to trust me. I know that
she’s your sister and I know that you love her but right now I have to worry
about the millions of lives potentially at stake. Your sister is the only
person who knows where this bomb is. I need to use every advantage I’ve got
to find it and stop it. Surely you understand that. (Kate nods) Just let me
do this.
[Shot of Marie being led
into a room where she is cuffed to a chair. Jack comes in. Marie starts whimpering.]
JACK: Where’s the bomb,
Marie? The real bomb?
MARIE: Go to hell, you bastard,
I’m not telling you anything.
[She cries in pain. Jack
comes in real close to her.]
JACK: You wanna know why
the pain’s so severe? The bullet’s still in your arm. Lodged right up against
the bone here. (he grabs her arm)
[Marie cries out.]
[Shot of Kate outside hearing
the yell and looking concerned towards the room.]
JACK: Tell me where the
bomb is and I’ll give you something for the pain and then we’ll treat your
arm.
[Shot of Kate looking worried.]
JACK: Please, Marie, just
talk to me. Tell me where the bomb is.
MARIE: NO!
[Marie whimpers some more
and starts shivering. Jack walks away.]
JACK: I know you think what
you’re doing right now is going to further your cause. But deep down? Deep
down I don’t think you wanna go through with it. I don’t think you can justify
killing millions of innocent civilians.
MARIE: Nobody’s innocent
in this country. I’m not afraid to die.
[Jack walks up to her and
grabs her chin so he can look into her eyes.]
JACK: I don’t believe you.
I’ve seen people who are willing to die. I’ve looked them straight in the
eye just like I am you right now. Your not one of them. Marie, I wanna give
you something for the pain but you’ve gotta help me first. Please tell me
where the bomb is.
[She starts to cry.]
JACK: Where is the bomb?!
[Marie cries out.]
[Cut to Lani’s cabin in
the bunker. They are both sitting with coffee in front of them. There’s an
awkward silence before Lani gets up.]
LANI: I’m gonna go check
the radio.
KIM: Do you have any sugar?
LANI: Yeah, yeah. (He points)
It’s in the back corner on the shelf there.
[Kim gets up to go get it.
As she picks up the sugar she realizes there is a TV covered in a blanket
also on the shelf.]
KIM: Is the TV hooked up
to the same antenna?
[Lani can’t hear her, he
has the headphones on. Kim turns on the TV. She gets static at first but then
changes the channel and gets a weather report.]
WEATHERWOMAN: And everyone
can take our their golf clubs because tomorrow-
[Kim changes the channel
and gets a baseball game.]
ANNOUNCER: One-one delivery
is swung on and driven in-
[Kim changes it again and
gets an entertainment show.]
REPORTER: Prominent civic
leaders and Hollywood stars lined-
[Kim changes it again and
gets another weather report.]
WEATHERWOMAN: --in record
numbers today gathered in Southern California beaches to celebrate the beautiful
weather of Southern California which will continue throughout the weekend.
Thank you—
[Kim shuts off the TV and
covers it up. Lani takes of the earphones and looks over at her. She holds
up the sugar container, smiles, and walks back to her seat.]
LANI: Still nothing.
[Cut to CTU. Michelle’s
computer showing a picture and bio of a man named Jonathan Wallace.]
TONY ALMEIDA: So we think
this is our man, huh?
MICHELLE DESSLER: Yeah.
TONY: Second commando.
MICHELLE: Captain Jonathan
Wallace. Led a sniper unit in the Gulf War, led an assassination detail in
Malaysia.
TONY: Have you gotten this
to Jack yet?
MICHELLE: I’m on it right
now.
TONY: Right, start up a
shared volume with OC on this guy, alright?
[Michelle goes to work.
Carrie comes over.]
CARRIE: Hello, Michelle.
MICHELLE: Carrie what are
you doing here?
CARRIE: Division sent me
over to replace Paula.
MICHELLE: Right, ah, do
you need any help getting into any of the locked volumes on the network?
CARRIE: No, actually, I’m
all up and running. You look great, by the way.
MICHELLE: Stop it, Carrie.
CARRIE: Stop what?
MICHELLE: You’re not my
boss today, alright? If you’re here to replace Paula then technically you
work for me.
[Shot of Tony watching the
spar off.]
CARRIE: Fine. Give me an
order.
MICHELLE: There’s a nuclear
bomb in Los Angeles. We’ve been charged with finding it. So why don’t you
start (grabs a stack of files) by analyzing these?
[They glare at each other
for a moment.]
CARRIE (winking): Fine.
[Carrie walks away. Shot
of Tony watching her leave. He knows something is between them. Carrie walks
passed George Mason who is carrying his briefcase. He goes over to Tony.]
GEORGE: Tony. Gotta second?
TONY: Sure. What is it?
GEORGE: I think its time
I stepped down. I’m not feeling so hot here.
TONY: Is there anything
I can do?
GEORGE: Actually, yeah.
Tomorrow, when this is all over, wanna say goodbye to everybody for me and,
ah, let em know what an honor it was working with them. And what a great job
I think they all did. Everybody.
TONY: Sure.
GEORGE: Ah…this morning
when I told you I couldn’t wait to get outta here? I don’t feel that way anymore.
Here you go.
[George hands Tony his access
card. His hand is all blistered. Shot of Michelle watching them looking upset.]
TONY: What’s this?
GEORGE: Access codes to
CTU and Division.
TONY: I can’t take this,
George. Only the CTU director is allowed that kind of access.
GEORGE: You’re the new CTU
director, Tony.
TONY: You can’t promote
me, George. Chappelle’s the only one who can do that.
GEORGE: I just talked to
Chappelle. You’re the new guy.
TONY: Listen George, um,
I’m sorry I-
GEROGE: Hey, don’t…Good
luck.
TONY: Yeah.
[Shot of Michelle crying.
Shot of Tony shocked. Shot of George Mason taking his final steps out of CTU.]
9:35:56, 9:35:57, 9:35:58…
9:40:21, 9:40:22, 9:40:23,
9:40:24, 9:40:25, 9:40:26…
[Tony being the new director
of CTU.]
TONY: Listen, I’m gonna
be operating from up here so I’m gonna need my access codes piped into the
system, alright?
INTERCOM: Got it. Everyone’s
ready for you down here.
TONY: Good. Thanks.
[Tony leaves the office
and stands on the stairs where the bulk of CTU staff is waiting at the bottom.]
TONY: In case you haven’t
heard, George Mason was exposed to a lethal dose of plutonium this morning.
I’m afraid he hasn’t got much time. He just left the office and he won’t be
coming back. Which means that I’ll be in charge until further notice. Now
on a normal day, we’d be mourning George. Just like we would’ve mourned Ivers
and Clarke and Paula…and the rest of our co-workers who were killed here today.
Unfortunately we’re gonna have to hold our thoughts of them until we can get
through this present crisis. So…let’s get back to work.
[The staff spread out. Michelle
comes over to Tony.]
MICHELLE: Tony…it was a
nice thing you just did.
TONY: What’s going on at
the airfield?
MICHELLE: Jack’s still interrogating
Marie Warner. So far we don’t have anything new.
TONY: Then keep me posted,
hm?
MICHELLE: Sure.
[Tony heads up the stairs.
Michelle goes back to her desk. Shot of Carrie watching them both.]
[Cut to airfield. Marie
is very groggy. Jack is trying to keep her conscious.]
JACK: Stay with me, Marie,
stay with me.
[Jack leaves her.]
JACK: Steve, walk with me.
[Jack starts walking away
with another agent.]
JACK: I need you to get
her some Demerol for the pain; she’s starting to go into shock. I need her
lucid.
STEVE: For how long?
JACK: Five minutes should
do it.
[Steve goes to get the drugs.
Jack finds Kate.]
JACK: Kate.
KATE: Yeah? What did she
say?
JACK: She hasn’t said anything
yet. And we’re gonna need your help.
KATE: Help? How?
JACK: You’re her sister.
I need you to try and bring her back to some sort of a reality. You know her
like that, I don’t.
KATE: I thought I did. But
she’s a different person from the Marie I knew this morning.
JACK: No, Kate, she’s the
same girl you’ve grown up with your whole life. Right now she’s just regurgitating
everything Sayed Ali ever taught her. I need you to remind her of the things
she used to love. You can do this, Kate. You can get to her.
[Shot of Marie getting injected
with the Demerol.]
KATE: Alright.
[Jack walks Kate over to
Marie.]
JACK: She’s going to be
a little groggy because of the painkiller, okay?
[Kate looked nervous.]
JACK: You alright?
KATE (nods): Yeah.
[Jack leaves. Kate walks
up to Marie and kneels beside the chair.]
KATE: Hey…Marie.
[Marie turns groggily around
and smiles.]
MARIE: Hi Katie. Get away.
I don’t need you.
KATE: Why won’t you help
us?
MARIE: I am gonna help you.
I’m gonna help you stop being a part of the problem.
KATE: So its okay with you…if
Dad and I die today?
MARIE: I killed Reza…and
I loved him. Why would I care about you and Dad?
KATE: Because we care for
you. Because we love you. Why are you doing this? Marie you—you can save everyone.
You can stop this terrible thing from happening.
MARIE: I don’t want to.
I can’t.
KATE: Marie, I’m begging
you. Please.
MARIE: No.
[She starts to cry. Kate
comforts her.]
MARIE: My arm. God. Ah!
[Jack motions to another
agent. He gets Kate.]
JACK: Kate, I need you to
step back.
[Marie is crying out.]
JACK: Marie, that’s the
Demerol wearing off. Tell me where the bomb is and I’ll get you more. Please,
Marie, tell me where the bomb is and I can make the pain go away.
[Marie shakes her head.]
KATE: Marie just tell him,
please.
JACK: Tell me where the
bomb is Marie.
[Marie looks pleadingly
at Kate.]
KATE: Jack, give her something
for the pain.
JACK: No. No. Marie, please.
Tell me where the bomb is. Where is the bomb?
MARIE: Katie, make him stop!
KATE: No, Marie. You make
him stop.
JACK: The pain’s only gonna get worse please just tell me where the bomb
is.
[Marie whimpers loudly.]
JACK: It’s alright. Just
tell me where the bomb is.
[Marie sobs in pain.]
MARIE: In the suitcase.
JACK: Where’s the suitcase?
MARIE: It’s…it’s in the
van.
JACK: What van? Wh-where
was the van headed?
MARIE: Ah…downtown.
JACK: Where downtown?
MARIE: At the Arco Towers.
JACK: What kind of van was
it? What colour? What make?
MARIE: Ah…ah…green. I don’t
know what make.
AGENT (into walkie-talkie):
We’re looking for a green van. The nuke may be inside a suitcase in the van.
Send a team down to the Arco Towers.
JACK: When is the bomb set
to go off?
MARIE: Three hours.
JACK: How do you know that?
MARIE: I saw the timer.
JACK: Describe it.
MARIE: What?!
JACK: The time. Describe
it.
MARIE: I don’t…
JACK: You’re lying to me.
A bomb that size wouldn’t have a visual timer.
MARIE (shaking her head):
I’m not lying. It’s at the Arco Towers. Send them all downtown now.
JACK: Why now? What’s the
hurry? I thought I had three hours? You told me I had three hours, right?
Do I have three hours?
MARIE: No, I’m not lying!
[Jack walks away from her.]
JACK: Why do you want me
and my team to leave here so fast?
[Marie doesn’t answer.]
JACK: The bombs still here,
isn’t it Marie?
MARIE: No.
JACK: Yes it is. (gets his
walkie-talkie) Teams A and B, I want you to initiate a grid search on every
out building at the airport starting at the North end headed South. The bomb
is on site. I repeat; the bomb is on site.
[Jack leaves. Kate goes
over and comforts Marie.]
KATE: Oh, Marie.
MARIE: They’re not gonna
find it in time. We’re all gonna die.
9:47:38, 9:47:39, 9:47:40…
9:51:51, 9:51:52, 9:51:53,
9:51:54, 9:51:55, 9:51:56…
[Shot of Kim and Lani in
the shelter.]
LANI: I’ll sleep on the
floor; you can have my bed.
[Shot of Mike Novick and
President Palmer entering an office.
MIKE NOVICK: Mr. President;
the call’s ready.
PRESIDENT PALMER: Steve
Hillenburg at Langley?
NOVICK: Yes. The CIA operative.
He’s on the isolated feed. Now, nobody else knows about this but the three
of you. (Pause) Sherry’s waiting.
PALMER: Good. Thanks.
[Palmer enters another room.
Sherry is waiting there looking stressed. Palmer sits and flicks on the TV.]
PALMER: Hello, Steve.
STEVE HILLENBURGE: Mr. President.
PALMER: What’s your involvement
in this?
STEVE: I got a call from
Sherry about four months ago. She told me that Roger Stanton was trying to
recruit her in an effort to undermine your presidency. She wanted an independent
source to confirm that she as only going along with this to help you.
PAMLER: So you’ve been building
a case against Roger Stanton for the last four months…without my knowledge.
STEVE: Plausible deniability,
sir. What we were doing was illegal…but, ah, we felt it was necessary. It
could have backfired and landed both Sherry and me in prison. We didn’t want
this to touch you if that happened.
PALMER: Okay; let’s say
I accept that. What proof do you have that exonerates Sherry besides your
word?
STEVE: I have photographs,
taped conversations, debriefs, files (holds up a file) filled with the work
Sherry did.
PAMLER: These meetings that
Sherry and Roger had; where did they take place?
STEVE: Sherry?
SHERRY: Um… (she stands
and walks away) for the first month we met at a hotel in Hilton Head. I didn’t
sleep with him.
PAMLER (not caring): I didn’t
ask. Thanks Steve. I’ll contact you if I need anything else.
STEVE: Thank you, sir.
[Palmer shuts of the TV.]
SHERRY: You know, I don’t
care what you think of me right now. The most important things is that you
realize that I never, and I mean never, was a part of Stanton’s conspiracy.
PAMLER: You know what, Sherry?
You might be telling me the truth; then again you might not. Right now I don’t
have the time or energy to figure out whether I can trust you.
SHERRY: You have to trust
me, David. Your presidency is in jeopardy and so is the country. Let me help
you.
PALMER: No. You’ll leave
now.
[Sherry takes his hand.]
SHERRY: David. You need
me.
[Palmer moves her hands
away.]
PAMLER: If you resist in
any way, I’ll have no choice but to place you under arrest.
[Palmer motions for his
guards. Two men enter.]
GUARD 1: Yes, sir?
PAMLER: Please escort Mrs.
Palmer to her car.
[Sherry leaves, slightly
stunned, with the guards. Mike enters.]
[Shot to Kim and Lani in
the bunker.]
LANI: I got a ventilation
system in here and an air supply but its still stays cool. But don’t worry
cos we got tons of blankets.
[He gets some blankets for
Kim’s bed.]
LANI: Are you tired?
KIM: I’m ok.
LANI: You’re still worried
about your family aren’t you? Try not to think about them too much.
KIM: You’re probably right.
[Lani turns to make Kim’s
bed. She notices a gun sitting on one of the shelves.]
LANI: So, did you grow up
in LA?
KIM: Yeah.
LANI: Oh yeah? Me too. What
part?
KIM: We moved around a lot.
[Kim notices some aspirin
on one of the top shelves.]
KIM: Actually, y’know what,
my foot is still hurting. Do you have any aspirin?
LANI: Yeah, yeah sure I
got tons.
[Lani turns to get the aspirin.
Kim something and hits him over the head. He goes down. She grabs the knife
and holds it at him.]
KIM: You’re gonna let me
out of here right now! I know the bomb didn’t go off.
LANI: Please, Kim.
KIM: Stay away!
LANI: Okay. Okay, its okay.
Just calm down.
[He grabs the knife, appears
to hold it to her but then puts it down.]
LANI: I wasn’t gonna hurt
you.
KIM: Then let me go.
LANI: Look, I just wanted
some company, that’s all.
KIM: Then what are you doing
out here?
LANI: This is where I belong.
KIM: I don’t.
LANI: I want you to stay.
KIM: I don’t wanna stay.
LANI (getting defensive):
Why not? What’s wrong with me? I…I’m not good enough?
KIM: It doesn’t have anything
to do with you-
LANI: Then why?! What, you
think I’m psycho?
KIM: I don’t know if your
psycho. I don’t even know you, Lani. Wouldn’t you rather be with someone who
wants to be here?
LANI: You don’t even want
to get to know me?
KIM: Please let me out of
here, Lani. Please.
[Lani looks like he’s considering
it. Then he turns around and gets a gun. He checks the barrel is loaded gestures
it to Kim. Then he hands it to her.]
LANI: Here.
KIM: What?
LANI: Take it. There’s cougars
out there. If you see one, fire a shot in the air and it’ll take off.
[Lani goes over to the bunker
door and lets Kim out.]
LANI: When you get out the
front door, turn right. About two hundred yards away you’ll see a dear trail.
That’ll lead you to the highway.
KIM: Thank you.
[Kim heads for the stairs.]
LANI: Kim? Maybe you’ll
come back some time?
KIM: I don’t think so.
[She leaves.]
[Shot of a hummer speeding
down the street. Shot of Jack. There are police cars speeding along with it.
They round a corner and see a gun shot battle gong on.]
JACK
(into walkie-talkie): Goodridge, what’s going on?!
[Goodridge
shoots a man in front of a van.]
GOODRIDGE:
All agents. One hostile down!
[Jack
pulls up and gets out of the car. He and some guards open up the back of the
truck. There is a suspicious looking bag inside but nothing else.]
JACK:
Let’s go! Bring em in!
[Jack
motions to some people and the bomb squad guys come over. The bald one opens
the bag and reveals a bomb. He swipes over the bag with a sensor.]
JACK:
What’ve we got?
BSG:
It’s nuclear. (He opens a little compartment on the bomb.) And there’s a trigger.
This is it.
[Jack
gets out his walkie-talkie.]
JACK:
This is Jack Bauer. We’ve found bomb. I want you to initiate a level one local
evac, now.
[Shot
of the bald BSG using another tool on the bomb. He looks at his partner then
at Jack.]
BSG:
It’s armed.
JACK:
How much time have we got?
BSG:
I can’t tell. It could be any second.
