: Give her to me Kim![Miguel kicks Gary unconscious.]
MIGUEL: We need to
get out of here.
KIM: Get his car
keys!
GEORGE MASON: Nina
killed your wife. I don’t want you anywhere near her.
JACK BAUER: My
goal is the same as yours, to stop this bomb. Who is the man in Visalia!?
NINA MYERS: The
man is Visalia is Mamud Faheen. He’s the only one who knows where the bomb is.
ED: The team’s
assembled in Visalia. We’ll have tactical and field units. Jack…
JACK: It’s
alright. It’s alright. Just take it easy.
[Jack cocks gun;
smirks at Nina.]
---
**The following
takes place between 2PM and 3PM.**
MAN (RADIO): Pull
up 30 feet behind the left wing. Escort stay back.
JACK: Move.
NINA: Jack drugged
Miller to get me alone! Tell Mason!
MAN (D): Is he in
the van?
JACK: Yeah. He’ll
come to in about 20 minutes. He’ll have a bit of headache.
MAN (D): Here’s
command authority.
JACK: I owe you
Doug.
DOUG: You’re
welcome.
[Nina gasps. Doug
exits.]
JACK: Get in the
plane.
MAN (RP): Agent
Bauer! Rick Phillips- FBI. Agent Harris and I will be your transit team to Visalia. We’ll act as reinforcements once we’re on the ground. So we’re clear here Jack? I
know what you did to Ed Miller.
JACK: Rick right?
Do yourself a favor- stay out of this; do your job, get us to Visalia.
PHILLIPS: My job
is to make sure this runs smoothly. That means keeping her safe. Consider me being
a chaperone.
JACK: I need 2
lines of communication set up through CTU; 1 for mobile, 1 for translator. It’s
gonna be tricky right now because the phone lines are still sketchy.
HARRIS: It’s
already done.
JACK: Good.
---
MARIE WARNER: Way
to go Kate. You broke his parent’s hearts too.
KATE: I’m so sorry
Marie. But I don’t know what these government people found! And believe me; I
wish they haven’t found anything. But aren’t you curious? Why are they asking
Dad questions now?
MARIE: Because you
started a witch-hunt in our family!
KATE: No Marie.
It’s because Reza’s connected to some bad people- maybe even terrorists.
MARIE: You’re out
of your mind.
KATE: We’re not
gonna put our heads in the sand Marie; or this could end up hurting Dad. We’re
not gonna let that happen.
REZA: Come with
me.
[Reza takes
Marie’s hand and starts walking.]
KATE: What did you
tell them Reza? What did you accuse my father of?
REZA: I didn’t
accuse him of anything! It’s his company; not mine!
KATE: What’s that
supposed to mean?! You’re pointing your finger at him to cover yourself!
MARIE: Kate!
KATE: Stay out of
this Marie!
REZA: You don’t
talk to her like that! Now you listen to me; I have more for your father than
you ever know! And all I’ve ever gotten from you is suspicion and resentment- and
you know what? I’m sick of it!
KATE: Well I’m not
the one who connected you to a terrorist.
REZA: No? Then who
did? Because I don’t know any terrorists Kate! All I know is you paid for
someone to dig up dirt on me.
KATE: Well
apparently- he did.
REZA: No he
didn’t- because all he found out was stuff about Bob; not me. So if anybody’s
guilty of anything?! It’s your father.
KATE: Don’t you
make this about my father!
MARIE: Just stop
it! Stop Kate! Both of you! Stop it!
REZA: Nice work
Kate.
---
SHERI: Well… Well
why don’t you call me when you get that?
MAN (PHONE): I’ll
have it today. 4 o’clock too late?
SHERI: No. That’s
good for me.
MAN (PHONE): I’ll
talk to you then.
SHERI: Yeah, good.
Alrighty, buh-bye.
SHERI: Well! If it
isn’t the Chief of Staff himself!? Mike!
[Sheri embraces
Mike.]
MIKE NOVICK:
Sheri! You look beautiful- as always! What are you doing here? Did David ask
you to come here?
SHERI: Uh… No. I
just showed up on my own.
MIKE: So. How’ve
you been?
SHERI: Fine Mike.
Just fine.
MIKE: Yeah?
SHERI: Yeah. You
know- it’s been a challenging year. But what is it they say? We… learn from our
mistakes and grow from our misfortunes.
MIKE: Have you…
told that to David?
SHERI: Heh. No. I
don’t think he’s ready to hear that yet; not now. But he is waiting for you, so
why don’t you just go in?
MIKE: I’ll see you
later… I’m sure.
MAN: Here you go
sir.
[Secret service
agent hands Mike Novick a briefcase.]
LYNNE KRESEGE: You
don’t speculate. Don’t say anything. We simply don’t know where he is. That is
our position.
WOMAN (PHONE): Yes
m’am. I understand.
KRESEGE: Alright.
Good. Thank you.
WOMAN (PHONE):
You’re welcome.
KRESEGE: Sir, we
have to talk about Ron Wieland.
PALMER: What about
him? Does anybody know we have him sequestered?
KRESEGE: Well- no.
But Jenny got a call from his production crew. They haven’t seen him in the
last four hours. And pretty soon they’re gonna figure out that the last person
they saw him with was you.
[Mike Novick
enters.]
MIKE: Then leak a
story.
PALMER: Mike! Good
to see you.
MIKE: I got here
as soon as I could. Hi Lynne. I spoke to Armus; he brought me up to speed about
the Wieland situation. I did some research; found out there is precedent for
the executive branch taking actions against the press at times of national
crisis.
KRESEGE: So, when
you say leak a story; what kind of a story? What-
MIKE: Make it
appear as though Wieland went to Portland for the rest of the day on a personal
matter. Armus can arrange that. It’s a band-aid; but it can get us through the
rest of the day.
PALMER: Talk to
Armus. Put it in motion.
KRESEGE: Yes sir.
MIKE: I saw Sheri on
my way in.
PALMER: Oh.
MIKE: Should I
attach any significance to that?
PALMER: It was her
decision to come here.
MIKE: That’s what
she said. But I have to tell you; I’m surprised that you’re allowing her to
stay.
PALMER: For the
time being Mike. Just for the time being. Let’s go the OC. I’ll bring you up to
speed. There’s a lot to cover.
---
GEORGE MASON: You
wanna send that onto Division?
WOMAN: Yes sir.
MICHELLE DESSLER:
Mr. Mason!
MASON: Yeah?
MICHELLE: I just
got off the phone with Ed Miller.
MASON: How’s it
going between Jack and Nina?
MICHELLE: He
doesn’t know. Jack drugged him and got on the plane without him.
MASON: Oh...
Please tell me you’re kidding.
[Michelle shakes
her head.]
MICHELLE: Sloane’s
bringing Ed back now. What do you want me to do?
MASON: They’re on
a plane. There’s nothing anybody can do; except hope that his impulse for
revenge doesn’t cloud his judgment.
MICHELLE: Cloud
his judgment? You mean like drugging one of our agents?
MASON: What can I
say? The guy’s a little crazy. That’s why I didn’t want him here in the first
place; but… he gets results. And we need some pretty big results here. So..
[Mason groans;
unbuttons his shirt to find the left side of his chest’s skin to be bruised. He
sighs.]
---
MIKE: Just because
Sheri tells you that there’s a conspiracy, the government is arraying against
you; that doesn’t make it true.
PALMER: But if it
is true- it will affect every aspect of our response to this bomb. Sheri was
right about the military evacuation of Los Angeles.
MIKE: That’s
specific information. She still has well-routed sources; but a conspiracy?
Don’t forget where she’s coming from. She may have her own agenda Mr.
President.
PALMER: I’m well
aware of that Mike. She’s on a tight leash. I wanna find her source.
MIKE: Let me look
into this so-called cabal against you. If there’s any substance to it; I’ll
uncover it. Right now, the country needs your attention on the situation in LA.
PALMER: Start with
Stanton.
MIKE: Stanton? The head of NSA, conspiring against the President of the United States? Aside the enormous implications if it was true; hasn’t he always been an
ally to you?
PALMER: Yes. But
he’s also Eric Rayburn’s boss. It’s not inconceivable that Rayburn could be
doing Stanton’s bidding. Those two has always been on the same page Mike.
MIKE: That’s not
enough to indict Roger.
PALMER: I know…
That’s why I want you to check him out. I’m hoping you can prove me wrong.
MIKE: I’ll talk to
Roger as soon as I settle in; see if I can get a read on him.
PALMER: Thanks
Mike.
---
JACK: How long
till we land?
PHILLIPS: About 10
minutes.
JACK: How far is
Faheen from the airport?
NINA: I’ll tell
you when we land. Can I have some water..?
JACK: We are
fighting the clock here Nina, so you better start talking, now how far is
Faheen from the airport?!
PHILLIPS: We need
her to cooperate, Jack. Threatening her isn’t gonna help.
JACK: Fine. Get
her changed. I need her to look like a civilian.
PHILLIPS: Come on,
let’s go.
JACK: No. Here.
She doesn’t leave my sight.
[Phillips un-cuffs
Nina’s hands and legs. Nina undresses in front of Jack. We see her bare back to
be scarred with cuts and whip lash marks.]

MAN (PHONE): Well-
everything’s working out right?
MASON: Why don’t
you come by see? It’s not the Ritz-Carlton; but it’s working for us.
MAN (PHONE):
Alright I’ll come on down.
MASON: I gotta go.
MAN (PHONE):
Alright.
[Another call
comes in. Mason presses button.]
MASON: Yeah?
MICHELLE: Jack’s
about to land in Visalia.
MASON: Have they
got a location for Faheen yet?
MICHELLE: No. Not
until they land.
MASON: Stay on it.
I’ll be down in a minute.
MICHELLE: Right.
[Mason un-crumples
paper; a name and a phone number. He punches number in the phone. In another
place, in a trailer food and drinks vendor; the phone rings.]
MAN (JM): Double
espresso au lait, and it’s hot.
WOMAN: Thank you.
MAN (JM): Out of
three. And five cents is your change.
[The man answers
his phone.]
MAN (JM): Hello?
MASON: John. It’s
your father. … Hello? You there?
JOHN: Yeah. Yeah.
I’m here.
MASON: Look I… I
know it’s been a while.
JOHN: 2 years.
MASON: That long?
JOHN: Yeah.
MASON: Oh it’s my
fault… Look John; I’d really like to see you today.
JOHN: I can’t.
MASON: It’s important.
JOHN: Dad- listen;
You can’t just call me out of the blue and expect me to jump. Because first
off- I don’t really want to see you; and even if I did, I can’t, I’m busy.
MASON: Look, I
know I screwed up. And I understand I’m not your favorite person in the world
right now. But can you just set that aside and do this one thing for me? I need
you to come to CTU. You know where that is right?
JOHN: I can’t do
it today Dad. I told you; I’m in the middle of something. Just tell me what’s
going on!
MASON: I need to
see you John! That’s what’s going on.
JOHN: You know
what? You’re not listening to me Dad! Listen, I’m gonna have to call you when I
have a chance.
[John hangs up.
Mason closes his eyes.]
---
[Jack puts on
sunglasses; unclips seat belts. Nina unclips her own seat belts too; no
handcuffs.]
JACK: Get up.
[Jack cuffs Nina.]
JACK: Let’s go.
MAN (D): I’m Agent
Dockerty.
JACK: Jack Bauer.
Agent Phillips and Harris.
DOCKERTY: We’re
all set up. All we need now is a location.
JACK: Where are we
going, Nina? What’s the location?
NINA: A thrift
store on North Collins.
DOCKERTY: What’s
the name?
NINA: Crescent
Collectibles.
JACK: What’s our
transportation?
DOCKERTY: 3 teams,
3 vehicles. They’re waiting for your orders. Crescent Collectibles is in the De
Anza district. That’s not too far from here. We can set up base camp here at
the airport.
JACK: Do it. Take
her.
[Jack shoves Nina
to Harris.]
PHILLIPS: What you
wanna do with her?
JACK: She stays
with me.
PHILLIPS: Why?
Keeping her so my guys could watch her? Could get her out of the way.
JACK: I’m gonna
use her.
PHILLIPS: Use her
how?
JACK: You’ll see.
---
ROGER STANTON:
Alright everyone. Thank you.
MAN: Thank you.
MIKE: Roger.
STANTON: Mike. I
heard you were here.
MIKE: I understand
the President handed Eric Rayburn his walking papers.
STANTON: Well,
Eric messed up. The President was right to dismiss him.
MIKE: Still, he
fired someone you appointed. It takes character to support that.
[Stanton shifts
uncomfortably; Mike is still smiling. Stanton smiles awkwardly.]
STANTON: I got a
nasty workload today; you’ll have to excuse me.
MIKE: Actually,
the president wants me to insert myself into your day.
STANTON: That
might be difficult. I’m moving a mile a minute here.
MIKE: I
understand. I’d like to have a look at any papers you have on the most active
leads. Let me play catch up.
STANTON: Alright.
We could use a little help in the civil response area.
MIKE: Great. I’ll
be working up here in four. Get me what you got.
[Roger Stanton
exits. Mike Novick smiles. President Palmer watches scene from his office,
Lynne Kresege present in office as well.]
PALMER: Update me.
KRESEGE: Well CTU
Los Angeles is yielding the most promising leads. They raided a warehouse this
morning within city limits and found weapons-grade nuclear material. Langley is
using satellite playback to determine who was there.
PALMER: A suspect
was killed?
KRESEGE: There was
a shootout. Division’s having a hard time ID’ing the body.
PALMER: What’s
this?
KRESEGE: Well
apparently, Jack Bauer is still involved in the investigation.
PALMER: But I
thought he was dismissed after he completed his assignment this morning.
KRESEGE: No. He’s
heading the team that’s tracking Mamud Faheen. And Nina Myers, the woman you
granted immunity to this morning? She’s helping them.
PALMER: Jack
Bauer. And Nina Myers are working together?!
KRESEGE: Yes sir.
I believe he volunteered.
---
PHILLIPS: What’s
the time divisibility?
DOCKERTY: From the
time we break in until we get them secured, we estimate 30 seconds.
PHILLIPS: What
about going through the roof?
DOCKERTY: We’re
looking at the building plans to see if it’s viable.
NINA: It’s not.
He’ll have sensors on the wall and foundations. You guys go in through the
front door- it’ll give enough time for Faheen to commit suicide.
JACK: If he’s so
willing to die, why did he leave Los Angeles?
NINA: Because he
doesn’t want to be collateral damage, doesn’t mean he won’t give up his life to
protect the plan.
JACK: We can’t
afford to take a chance. We need this guy alive.
DOCKERTY: Gas
canister?
JACK: Won’t work.
He knows all our protocols and he’s prepared.
PHILLIPS: How does
he know your protocols?
JACK: She gave
them to him. Doesn’t matter- Nina, you’re going in.
NINA: What?!
JACK: He knows
you.
NINA: He also thinks
I’m in prison.
JACK: You better
make him believe that you got out.
NINA: The day his
bomb’s supposed to go off? He’ll know I’m lying.
JACK: You’re a
good liar Nina. The only way he’s gonna know is if you let him. We need 30
seconds.
NINA: He is going
to put a bullet in my head before I say hello. Then he’ll turn the gun on
himself.
JACK: We’ll make
sure he doesn’t turn the gun on himself.

MASON: How’s it
looking?
MICHELLE: Good.
We’ve got all the channels open; we’re just waiting for the feeds.
MASON: Do we know
what dialect of Arabic Faheen speaks?
MICHELLE: Yeah.
Nina gave us the information.
MAN: Mr. Mason?
Tony Almeida’s on the line.
[George Mason
takes the telephone.]
MASON: Yeah, Tony.
TONY: Naiyeer’s
starting to talk. He says that Bob Warner is the one that had dealings with
Syed Ali. Of course Warner claims he doesn’t know anything about it.
MASON: Bring them
both in. We’ll separate them and turn up the heat.
TONY: Are you
giving me the OK to arrest these people?
MASON: If they
don’t come willingly, yes.
TONY: On what
charge?
MASON: Well- I
don’t care if it’s jaywalking, just bring them in.
TONY: Okay. You
got it.
[Kate Warner heard
what Tony asked about arresting. She gasps in disbelief. Tony hangs up.]
KATE: What’s going
on with my father?
TONY: Give me a
minute please.
TONY: I need you
to get Bob Warner. We’re gonna finish this up at CTU. Okay?
AGENT RICHARDS:
Got it.
TONY: Reza, I’m
gonna need you to come with us.
REZA: Come with
you where?
TONY: Back to CTU.
KATE: For what?
TONY: Further
questioning.
REZA: I’m not
going with you anywhere.
[Tony smirks.]
TONY: Look, I’m
not arresting anybody… yet. But I will if you force me to. Now you’re coming
with us either way. How we do this is entirely up to you.
BOB: Just do what
the man says Reza. Don’t argue with him.
REZA: Bob, I haven’t
done anything wrong! You can’t arrest me!
BOB: Reza, Reza.
Do this for me. Okay?
[Reza nods
hesitantly.]
MARIE: Then I’m
coming with you.
RICHARDS: No, we
can’t take you with us m’am.
MARIE: Then I’ll
follow you. You’ve ruin my wedding day. I’m not gonna let you separate me from
my fiancé.
[Tony nods, cocks
his head towards the door and rolls his eyes. Richards gives in.]
RICHARDS: Right
this way.
KATE: Dad.
BOB: Call
everyone. Explain the wedding’s been postponed.
KATE: Okay.
BOB: I want you to
call Larry, tell him where I am.
KATE: Dad, Larry’s
a tax attorney.
BOB: It doesn’t
matter. It doesn’t matter. He’ll know what to do. Okay.
KATE: Alright.
---
PALMER: Good
afternoon.
[Palmer and
Kresege enters room, Sheri and Mike is there already.]
PALMER: Ah. You
two haven’t been formally introduced. Lynne Kresege, Sheri Palmer.
SHERI: Lynne. It’s
lovely to meet you.
[Kresege shakes
Sheri’s hand.]
KRESEGE: Mrs.
Palmer. Mr. President, there were a few guidelines from Director Stanton that I
wanted to go over with you in this meeting.
PALMER: Ok. Let me
just break the ice here. Lynne, I have invoked executive privilege and have
granted Sheri a provisional security clearance.
KRESEGE: I see.
PALMER: This
meeting is about the possibility of people inside this administration who may
be organizing against me.
KRESEGE: Against
you?
SHERI: David.
Maybe you should bring Lynne up to speed on where we are with Roger Stanton.
[Kresege sits down
with pissed off expression.]
KRESEGE: Mr.
President?
PALMER: Lynne, I’m
sorry; Things have been happening too fast today. Our problems are compounded
by the possibility of a dissenting faction.
KRESEGE: And you
think Roger might be a part of that?
PALMER: It’s
possible.
KRESEGE: If you
don’t mind my asking sir, what led you to this hypothesis?
PALMER: It
troubles me to articulate this Lynne- but the ambassador’s helicopter accident
solved a lot of Roger Stanton’s issues.
KRESEGE: Sir,
those issues were shared by many-
SHERI: I’m so
sorry to interrupt. But uh.. David, there’s something else that you probably
don’t know Lynne. And that is that Roger Stanton has been having secret
meetings with the minority leader in the Senate, and Eric Rayburn has been in
attendance.
KRESEGE: Well
actually, Sheri, I am aware of those meetings. They were trying to forge a
bipartisan base in order to stop questionable allocations made by the Armed
Services Committee. And sir the only reason I did not brief you on this
earlier, is because the vote is not for another two months. But I have very
detailed records, if you would like to take a look at them.
PALMER: This
doesn’t solve any of our problems today. We’ve got to avert a disaster and we
can’t do that if our own people are working against us. Now I need to know that
Roger Stanton is supporting this administration.
MIKE: I’m already
working alongside Roger. Lynne, I’d like you to keep track of your
conversations with him as well. Now, I’ve put together a list of people on the
Hill who might be able to help in this matter.
SHERI: Thank you
Mike.

[Kate Warner goes
on father’s computer to find a password protected section she has to access.
She phones her private investigator.]
MAN (PK): LA
Investigations. Paul Koplin speaking.
KATE: Uh.. Hi
Paul. This is Kate Warner. Is Ralph Burton there?
KOPLIN: No, I’m
sorry Kate. Ralph’s not here. Can I help you with something?
KATE: I need to
talk to Ralph.
KOPLIN: Well… He
left for the day. He works for me, I’m familiar with the case, is there
something I can do for you?
KATE: I need some
help. I have to get into my father’s private records.
---
SHERI: Lynne?
Lynne.
KRESEGE: Yes?
SHERI: Can I have
a sec?
KRESEGE: Sure.
[Mike exits.]
SHERI: I uh.. know
that you’re uncomfortable with me taking some of these tasks from you. After
all, I’m not officially on David’s staff.
KRESEGE: Mrs.
Palmer. My discomfort has nothing to do with you being on his staff. My only
concern is to protect and serve the President. I need to know the people around
are competent. But I simply don’t know you.
SHERI: Well you
seem like a pretty smart woman, Lynne- so let me explain something to you
clearly.
KRESEGE: Mm.
SHERI: David did
not get here by himself. He’s had competent people around him his entire life.
Obviously, you’re one of them. Not necessarily the best, just the most recent.
So have some respect for those of us who put him into office. We just might be
able to help you.
KRESEGE: Fair
enough.
[Kresege exits.
Palmer was standing in the next room, listening.]
PALMER: Be careful
Sheri. I need Lynne. Don’t turn this into a competition.
SHERI: I
understand. I just.. Need her to know that I’m not just around here as
window-dressing.
PALMER: I’m sure
she got the message.
SHERI: I’ll
behave. Promise.
PALMER: Sheri- You
don’t have a lot of friends here today. In fact, seems like every time I turn
around, somebody’s advising me to send you away.
SHERI: Then why
don’t you..?
PALMER: Because
you may be able to get information that nobody else can.
---
JACK: Okay. Slow
down. As soon as we get a positive ID through your camera- we’ll be in within
30 seconds.
HARRIS: This is
it.
JACK: Get out. Get
out!
[Nina gets out.]
JACK (RADIO): All
teams on alert. Nina is in play. Nina is in play.
MAN (RADIO): This
is team 2. We’ve got her.
MAN2(RADIO): Roger
that team two.
JACK: Stay on
frequency 1.
[Jack exits car.
Nina goes into store. Jack equips earpiece.]
JACK: Michelle can
you read me?
MICHELLE: Copy
Jack.
JACK: Okay, she’s
in. We’re moving into position now.
WOMAN: Is there
something I can help you find?
NINA: I need to
see Mamud.
WOMAN: I’m sorry,
I don’t know any Mamud.
NINA: Tell him
Nina is here to see him.
WOMAN: Nina? …
Wait here please.
[Woman goes over
to intercom thing, converses with a man in Arabic, Nina’s name is mentioned
several times. Nina steals a plastic card from the table. SWAT team outside is
moving into position.]
MAN: Go, go, go.
WOMAN: Come with
me.
[Nina follows
woman. The camera focus on her pendent necklace. Turns out the necklace is
camera, team watches through TV.]
JACK: Michelle, all
I’ve got static. There’s nothing on my monitor. What’s going on?
MICHELLE: She’s
leading her through a door into a hallway.
WOMAN: Against the
wall. Hands in the air.
[Woman checks Nina
for weapons.]
MICHELLE: Now it
looks like that they’re checking her for weapons.
[Nina speaks
Arabic.]
JACK: What are
they saying?
MICHELLE: She
said, they thought she was prison. Nina said she escaped.
[Woman speaks
Arabic. Points her through to another hallway, Nina enters room.]
MICHELLE: Now
they’re taking her into another room. It looks like the one off the east exit.
[Gun cocks. Man
appears from behind bead curtain. Man and Nina talks in Arabic.]
JACK: Who is she
talking to?
MICHELLE: I can’t
tell. The target’s still in shadow.
JACK: Well what
are they saying?!
MICHELLE: She
said… She’s explaining who she had to pay to escape from prison.
PHILLIPS: Jack
should we go?
JACK: No. Not
until I have confirmation it’s Faheen.
[Man puts arm
around Nina.]
JACK: My audio
just went dead.
MICHELLE: Yeah- I
lost mine too!
JACK: Ok, that’s
it, everybody go!
MAN: Go!
[Car crashes
through window. Someone shoots through door. One man down. Woman takes out gun,
taken down by SWAT. Some SWAT crashes through ceiling. Gunfight.]
MAN: Stand in
position!
MAN2: Go! Let’s
go!
MAN: Stand in
position.
MAN3: Go go, go
go.
[Jack finds Faheen
unconscious on the floor.]
JACK: Phillips!
Faheen’s unconscious. She’s gone. Nina’s gone! Secure the building.
PHILLIPS (RADIO):
This is Phillips, we need medics at the east entrance.
[Jack goes down
stairs.]

through room consciously with gun ready, another hostile down unconscious. The
camera cuts to Nina running up another flight of stairs, to find the gate
locked with a giant padlock made of hardened steel. Nina clicks safety off the
gun and prepares to shoot the lock off.]
JACK: Drop it.
[Jack is around
the corner with his gun pointed at Nina. Nina drops gun. Jack is standing in
front of Nina. Nina raises her hand in surrender position. Nina goes down the
stairs, kneels, her fingers interlocked on the back of her head. Jack points
guns at Nina’s head. Both breathing heavily. Jack’s hand trembles. He secures
gun and handcuffs Nina.]

KIM (Phone): We’re
leaving LA now Aunt Carol. We’ll probably be another 4 or 5 hours. Ok, we will.
Bye.
[Siren.]
MIGHEL: Dammit.
KIM: Oh you gotta
be kidding me.
MIGUEL: Just play
cool.
KIM: Cool? We’re
in a stolen car.
[Miguel stops
their car on the roadside. Megan’s asleep at the back. Fat cop exits his police
cars and comes up to driver’s window.]
COP: License and
registration please?
MIGUEL: Did I do
something wrong?
COP: You were
speeding.
[Miguel hands cop
his license.]
COP: Registration
too.
KIM: This is my
boss’s car. I’m not sure where he keeps it. I’m sure it’s in here somewhere. I
think this is it.
MIGUEL: Here you
go.
[Cop takes
registration and license and goes to his car.]
COP: Okay I’ll be
right back.

[Mason rubs his
eyes. Coughs. John Mason comes in, handcuffed, lead by the guard.]
JOHN: What de hell
are you doing?
GUARD (K):
Anything else I can do for you George?
MASON: No, Ken. I
got if from here.
KEN: Got it.
[Ken the Guard
exits.]
MASON: I’m sorry,
John.
[Mason un-cuffs
John.]
MASON: Hey. I told
you I needed to see you right?
JOHN: What
happened here?
MASON: Never could
get you to watch the news, could I?
JOHN: If you’re
looking to a bond here dad, having your son arrested probably isn’t the best
way to do that.
MASON: I don’t
have much time, John. Things are happening here. I can’t go into it fully.
JOHN: You couldn’t
go fully into much of anything.
MASON: It’s my
work.
JOHN: That’s just
something you should look into if you happen to start a second family.
MASON: Oh, it’s
not gonna happen. Look… I understand if you’re angry.
JOHN: I’m not
angry Dad. I don’t care. I just don’t really understand- what are you trying to
do here?
MASON: Uh… I got
this bank account. Nobody knows about it. It’s got a couple hundred thousand
dollars in it. I want you to have it. The number to my book-keeper, who I’ve
spoken to. He’ll be transferring the money.
[Mason hands John
a slip of paper.]
JOHN: Let’s try
and get this right Dad.. You uh.. You’re bringing me here to tell me you’re
giving me money? What did you expect me to do? Expect me to give you a hug?
Dad, I don’t want your money.
MASON: You don’t…
Then give it to your mom. I’m sure she does. Cos.. Thing is, I’m not gonna be
needing it.
JOHN: Why is that?
[Mason looks
down.]
JOHN: Why is that,
Dad? Listen, you don’t bring me here, offer me a small fortune, and not tell me
what’s going on.
MASON: I’m dying
John.
JOHN: You
sonuvabitch…
[John looks like
he’s about to cry. Mason looks the same way.]
JOHN: Is it
cancer; or something?
MASON: Something
like that. Yeah. Look, John… Something bad is gonna happen in Los Angeles today.
And I need you to leave town.
JOHN: Leave? Now?
MASON: Go to
Phoenix and stay with your mom for a little while. Yeah. I mean it, John. It’s
dangerous to be here. I can’t explain it to you, but you just have to go, okay?
Just go.
JOHN: Dad, listen.
I don’t… This doesn’t matt- Dammit!
[Mason hugs John.]
MASON: You’re a
good kid. I hope I didn’t mess you up too bad. You alright?
JOHN: Yeah.
MASON: Get out of
here alright? JUST GET OUT OF HERE OKAY?!
[The entire office
hears. Mason half pushes John away. Mason cries.]
MASON: Oh God…
---
RADIO CHATTER: The
vehicle is registered to a Gary Matheson.
KIM: We can’t let
him take us back to LA.
MIGUEL: I know.
Why’s he taking so long?
[Cop exits his
car; comes up to Miguel and Kim.]
COP: Say this is
your boss’s car?
KIM: Yeah.
COP: Who’s the
little girl?
KIM: Oh I’m her au
pair.
COP: Her what?
MIGUEL: She
baby-sits her.
COP: I wasn’t
talking to you. … I’ll tell you what. I’m gonna let you get off with just a
warning this time. But you slow down alright?
MIGUEL: Yes
officer. Thank you.
KIM: Thank you.
[Miguel prepares
to turn on ignition. Cop walks away, looks back, spots blood dripping out of
trunk/exhaustion pipe area.]
COP: Hold up. You
want to step out of the car and open up the trunk? Step out of the car and open
up the trunk.
[Miguel steps out
of the car and walks towards the trunk.]
---
[Jack is leading
Nina away.]
[Mason is crying.]
[Palmer is looking
suspiciously at somebody.]
---
[Miguel
successfully opens trunk. To find the bloody corpse of Carla Matheson, Gary’s
wife, Megan’s mom.]
MIGUEL: Oh god.
[Cop points gun at
Miguel.]
COP: Put your
hands on your head and lay down on your stomach. Get down. Get down! Get down!
Get out of the car! Keep your hands on your head.
KIM: What’s going
on?
COP: Lay down on
the ground.
[Kim sees Carla’s
body.]
KIM: Carla! Oh my
God! He killed her!
MEGAN: What’s
happening Kim?
KIM: Megan, get
back in the car!
[Kim gets down on
the ground.]
COP: Get your
hands behind your head. Stay there. Cross your legs. Stay still.
COP (Radio): Officer
in need of assistance.
