**Recap: Previously on 24.**

KATE WARNER: Did you check the passport information I gave you?

RAPLH BURTON: I did. Confirms that Reza Naiyeer has had contact with Syed Ali.

KATE WARNER: My sister, is marrying someone who works with terrorists, and you expect me to act normal?

RALPH BURTON: You can endanger yourself, and your family, if you let on that anything is wrong.

KATE WARNER: I understand.

TONY ALMEIDA (Phone): George, we need you to check on a warehouse in the valley.

[Shootout. Glass breaks.]

MEDIC: The substance you inhaled is uh... plutonium.

GEORGE MASON: How much time do I have?

MEDIC: Uh.. As much as a week or.. As little as a day.

PRESIDENT PALMER: What's going on out here?

LYNNE KRESGE: Jack Bauer says that Wald's crew is planning to blow up CTU.

PALMER: Have you contacted CTU?

ERIC RAYBURN: Bauer haven't gotten to Wald yet. If we stop Wald's crew, they may realize Bauer turned them in.

PALMER: Contact CTU immediately.

KIM: I'm never going to let him hurt you again.

POLICE: Dispatch says you're reporting a child abduction.

GARY MATHESON: She took my daughter.

POLICE: Describe the suspect for me.

GARY MATHESON: Her name is Kimberly Bauer.

KIM (Phone): It's kind of messed up, I have the police after me.

TONY(Phone): Can you get here to CTU?

KIM (Phone): Yeah I guess so.

KIM: My name is Kimberly Bauer, Tony Almeida is expecting us.

JACK: You really think you're gonna take that building down with three charges? So what made you target CTU anyways?

EDDIE GRANT: Why are you asking so many questions?

[CTU Explodes.]

EDDIE GRANT: We did it Jack.

JACK: Good job Eddie. Good job.

**The following takes place between 11.00AM and 12.00PM.**

[Radio chatter about CTU bombing. Jack and Wald’s crew drives away.]

---

MICHELLE: Tony! Tony?

TONY: Can I get some help over here? A little help?

MICHELLE: Tony!

TONY: Michelle! Look I need you to set up a triage, and take Luke with you.

MICHELLE: Kay Luke, I’ve got you, it's Michelle.

TONY: Lemme see that. Paula? Paula can you hear me?

PAULA: What.. What happened?

TONY: Look you don't have to speak. Just blink your eyes if you can hear me.

[Paula blinks.]

TONY: Okay. Look we're gonna get outta there. Just hang tight, alright?

TONY: She's bad man, we gotta get a crane, or a hydraulic lift or something in here now

MAN: We have to be careful. If we pull out the wrong piece- the whole thing could come down on her and crush her. We have to do this brick by brick.

TONY: It's gonna take forever! ... Okay. Alright let's do it.

KIM: It's okay. We're gonna be alright, you're being real brave.

[Megan sees bloody person, gasps.]

KIM: Shh. Shh... Come on.

MEGAN: I don't feel very well.

KIM: We're going to be okay. We're going to be out of here soon! Okay? Alright?

[Megan seizures.]

KIM: Megan?! Megan! Somebody help me! Please I need some help!

MEDIC: Hold her down.

KIM: What's wrong with her?

MEDIC: Hold her down!

KIM: What's the matter? Megan!

MEDIC: She's seizing. We gotta get her to the ER right away.

KIM: What's wrong with her?

MEDIC: I got you, ok.

---

RAYBURN: Sir we did everything we could do.

PALMER: If only Bauer had called earlier. Even a few minutes, could've saved those people.

RAYBURN: Until we know more, I'd like to go over my evacuation plans for LA. It's on your desk.

PALMER: I'll call you when I'm ready to meet on it.

RAYBURN: Thank you sir.

LYNNE KRESGE: Those people are dead because of you. I wanted to tell the President.

RAYBURN: But you didn't.

KRESGE: Because of you Eric. You made sure that I couldn't get to him.

RAYBURN: As far as I know, Bauer never called. You're the one who spoke to him.

KRESEGE: Are you blackmailing me?

RAYBURN: I'm protecting the President. Lynne, whatever you know, or think you know, I suggest you keep it to yourself.

---

MEDIC: Everything in your car.. I had it uh... Cleared out and put into the ambulance. So... Whenever you're ready to go to the hospital.

MASON: Uhm. So uh.. How.. How's it gonna happen?

MEDIC: S'cuse me?

MASON: You said I might be dead by tomorrow, I'm just kinda curious, you know, what expect  for the rest of the day.

MEDIC: Uhm.  There's uh.. a latent period where you'll mostly be asymptomatic- even in most extreme cases of radiation poisoning. It can last awhile.

MASON: What's awhile?

MEDIC: Uhh.. Up to 12 hours. Maybe longer. How do you feel now?

MASON: I want to puke.

MEDIC: I can get you something to control the nausea.

MASON: Thanks.

MEDIC: At least until the uh.. Symptoms are more acute.

MASON: Yeah. Like uh.. Like what.

MEDIC: Your hair will start to fall out.

MASON: Pfft. I'm used to that.

MEDIC: You'll start to manifest gastro-intestinal hammering, skin lesions. Bleeding from the mouth and the nose.

MASON: Uhm.. Okay. So how am I gonna die?

MEDIC: Uhm.. Your uh.. Your metal function will begin to deteriorate, uhh.. You'll lapse into a coma-

COP: Mr. Mason.

MEDIC: Not now.

COP: A guy from your office, a Tony Almeida said-

MEDIC: Not now!

COP: He said it's urgent.

MASON: It's okay.

[Mason takes phone.]

MASON: Hey Tony, what is it?

TONY: They hit us George! They bombed CTU!

MASON: Whaa.. What? What kind of damage?

TONY: Damage report is still coming in, but so far we got 19 of our people dead, 20 wounded, and 7 missing. Look, we're bleeding bad here George. All of our intel on the nuke was destroyed! I mean it's on the NSA server, but Paula wrote the decryption code and she's in really bad shape.

MASON: Well, just do whatever you have to retrieve it.

TONY: Yeah, I am! That's what I'm trying to do- That's why I called you. Chain of command, remember?

MASON: Call NSA systems people, get them on it.

TONY: I already did George.

MASON: O good.

TONY: Look, when you coming back here?

MASON: I- I'm not sure.

TONY: Well the sooner the better.

MASON: Uh.. Look, uh.. the truth is, uh.. I may not be coming back.

TONY: Why not?

MASON: Because I'm not really in the position to help out right now.

TONY: What are you talking about?! Look! A nuclear device is set to go off some time today in Los Angelus! We just lost half the people who were in the position to keep it from happening! So don't tell me that you're still trying to cover your own ass!

MASON: Look just deal with it Tony, okay- just deal with it alright?!

TONY: Yeah. Right.

[Hangs up.]

---

EDDIE GRANT: Jack you come with me.

TERRORIST: Alright, light her up, let's get outta here.

[Grant phones Joe.]

GRANT: Hey Joe, it's done. ... No. Nothing. Yeah. Yeah I can do it. Now gimme the address?

[Writes down on matchbook.]

GRANT: Yeah I know where it is.

[Guy lights up dynamite.]

GRANT: Alright. Alright. out.

JACK: Is that Joe?

GRANT: Yeah, let's go.

[Jack pulls out gun.]

JACK: Gimme the matchbook Eddy.

GRANT: what the hell are you doing Jack?

JACK: I'm a federal officer. You're under arrest. Now give me the matchbook.

[Grant gives Jack matchbook with address on it.]

GRANT: Jack you help plant those bombs and you cut Goren's head off.

JACK: I know what I did Eddy. Put your right hand on the steering wheel.

[Grant puts hand on steering wheel.]

JACK: Very slowly with your left hand, pass me your gun.

GRANT: You know Jack, Joe finds out about this- you're a dead man.

JACK: Shut up Eddy and get out of the car.

[Jack with gun appears in sight of other terrorists.]

TERRORIST: Sonuvabitch.

[Gunfight. Grant tires to escape in car. Jack shoots and kills Grant. Jack takes car and

drives away.]

[Jack calls CTU.]

MICHELLE: Tony Almeida's line.

JACK: Who's this?

MICHELLE: Michelle Dessler, who's this?

JACK: Michelle- this is Jack Bauer, what's going on over there?

MICHELLE: There's an explosion about.. 20 minutes ago. 21 casualties, number’s growing.

JACK: Why wasn't CTU evacuated?

MICHELLE: There wasn't any time.

JACK: What do you mean there wasn't enough time?! What about Mason, is he alright?

MICHELLE: He wasn't here.

JACK: How about Tony Almeida?

MICHELLE: He's okay. He's helping the rescue workers.

JACK: Fine. Can you handle the situation report?

MICHELLE: Yeah. Uh.. Okay. Go ahead.

JACK: I've located Joseph Wald, I'm on my way there now.

MICHELLE: What about Wald's crew?

JACK: They're all dead.

MICHELLE: Dead?

JACK: Just let Mason know, I'm on my way to Joseph Wald's house, the address is 221 Canyon View Road, in Simi Valley.

MICHELLE: Okay. I'll send backup.

JACK: Okay. Oh Michelle, Let Mason know I talked to Kim, she is leaving the city.

MICHELLE: Yeah. She called here too, she spoke to Tony.

JACK: She did? Uh what she say?

MICHELLE: Uh I'm not sure. But I'll look into it.

JACK: Okay get back to me thanks.

[Jack hangs up.]

---

[Piece of tin falls.]

TONY: Paula, Paula! She okay?

MICHELLE: Tony!

TONY: What's up?

MICHELLE: Just got off the phone with Jack Bauer.

TONY: Where is he?

MICHELLE: He's on his way to see Wald. He wanted Mason to know.

TONY: Yeah, well Mason's checked out. Look just get the information directly to NSA alright?

MICHELLE: Yeah and oh he asked about his daughter Kim.

TONY: Aw. Aw. Oh no...

MICHELLE: What?

TONY: She was on her way here. Look uh... Can you check the security logs and see if she's in the building?

MICHELLE: Yeah.

TONY: Thanks.

---

KIM: Is Megan alright?

DOCTOR: She will be. Her seizure was caused by pressure on the brain, compounded by a skull fracture.

KIM: But.. We got out in time. She wasn't injured in the explosion.

DOCTOR: Yeah. I know. From what I've seen, her head injury most likely occurred before the blast. Megan's x-ray indicated other prior injuries, of fractured wrist, several fingers that have never been treated.

KIM: What are you saying...

DOCTOR: These injuries suggest a possible pattern of physical abuse.

KIM: You don't think I did this! You don't think I'd hurt her!?

DOCTOR: I'm going to let the police sort that out.

---

TV REPORT: Understand Bill, there is limited access. All we know right now is that a short time ago, a major explosion ripped through this government building in Los Angeles. No statement have been issued by the government regarding the cause this explosion, although early speculations has indicated rumors of terrorist involvement.

[Rayburn turns off TV.]

RAYBURN: As far as I'm concerned there's tips in favor of the evacuation.

PALMER: I assumed you've all read the R-X reports, recommending the evacuation of Los Angeles.

RAYBURN: The CTU bombing is just the beginning. It's just a matter of time before the questions become rumors, and the rumors set off the mass panic.

KRESGE: Wouldn't the evacuation itself cause panic?

RAYBURN: We can do this discreetly in stages. We'd prepare cover stories.

KRESEGE: That's a pretty tough sell for nine million people.

RAYBURN: General Preston assures me, that the military can contain any civil unrest.

KRESEGE: Contains sounds to me pretty much like a euphemism, not to mention the constitutional issues.

RAYBURN: I don't claim this will be a cake walk.

KRESEGE: There's also a practical issue that I don't see being addressed here.

RAYBURN: What's that Lynne…

KRESEGE: Our intelligence is specific to this nuclear device being detonated sometime today. Yeah your reports says it'll take at least one week for this evacuation.

RAYBURN: Now it's my job to protect as many citizens of United States as I can. If I can get even 20 percent of the population out of the blast radius, that's a win.

KRESEGE: We don't even know where the bomb is. So where do you suggest we begin this evacuation?

RAYBURN: My staff have ranked 10 high probability areas.

PALMER: That's not good enough. Look, I realize you only had a short time to prepare this, but I have some real reservations.

RAYBURN: Bottom line, Mr. President. This protects you politically. If the bomb goes off-

PALMER: If the bomb goes off, we have more important concerns than my re-election. Do you have anything else to add?

KRESEGE: No sir.

PALMER: Then we're done here. Until we have reliable intelligence on where the bomb is located, there will be no evacuation. Let General Davalos that I'm ready for him. The conference end ten to the least.

KRESEGE: Yes sir.

---

JACK (Phone): This is Jack Bauer. I need to speak with the President right away, it's urgent.

OPERATOR: One moment please Mr. Bauer.

KRESEGE: I need you to confirm this report and get it on Novick's desk immediately.

MAN: Uh-huh.

KRESEGE: Lynne Kresege.

OPERATER: I have Jack Bauer on line 8. He insists on speaking to the President.

KRESEGE: Uhm.. Put him through please.

KRESEGE: Mr. Bauer, this is Lynne Kresege.

JACK: I asked to speak to the President.

KRESEGE: I'm sorry, he's unavailable, perhaps I could help?

JACK: What de hell are you people doing over there?! I gave you a thirty minute warning before that building was supposed to be hit! You had plenty of time to evacuate the personnel!

KRESEGE: Mr. Bauer, there were extenuating circumstances. I did try to tell the President! It-It's more complicated then I'm able to explain at this time.

JACK: I'm sorry, that's not good enough!

KRESEGE: That's all I can offer you.

JACK: Ms. Kresege right?

KRESEGE: Yes.

JACK: You're responsible for killing a lot of innocent people today, people I work with, friends of mine.

KRESEGE: I realize that. Right now you're the best chance we have of intercepting that nuclear weapon. I suggest you do your job.

JACK: I'll do my job! You people better start doing yours!

[Jack hangs up.]

KATE WARNER: Dad?

BOB WARNER: Hm?

KATE WARNER: Sorry to interrupt, it's important.

BOB: Sure honey just a second. This weddings gonna break me. Heh. So. What's the big emergency?

KATE: Last month I was going over the PNLs for the third quarter, I found some inconsistencies.

BOB: Look if this is about business, we'll deal with this on Monday. Okay?

KATE: Dad, dad it's about Reza.

BOB: What about Reza.

KATE: I thought he might be the one responsible for the missing money- so I hired an investigator to do an audit.

BOB: You hired someone to spy on Reza?

KATE: I thought he was stealing from you.

BOB: And is he?

KATE: No. But something else came up- something a lot worse. Reza may be involved with the terrorist.

BOB: What?

KATE: Apparently, he's been in contact with someone who finances terrorist operations, a man named Syed Ali.

BOB: What kind of proof does he have?

KATE: I'm not sure.

BOB: You're not sure.

KATE: He only called me about this an hour ago. He told me not to tell anyone, but I had to tell you.

BOB: Whatever this investigator found, there's an explanation for it. Honey, you hired a man to dig up dirt, he's going to dig up dirt! That's how these guys stay in business!

KATE: What if you're wrong?

BOB: I'm not.

KATE: How do you know?

BOB: Because I had Reza checked out myself. And a lot more thoroughly then the guy you hired. Kate- Reza is not a terrorist. I am a businessman Kate. A damn good one. My daughters are my most precious assets, I wouldn't let either one of you get married without performing due diligence. Now. I want you to drop this nonsense and treat Reza like a member of this family. Okay?

[Reza appears.]

REZA: Hey guys!

BOB: Hey!

REZA: I uh.. think my cousin's got a little crush on you Kate. He wouldn't stop talking about you on the way back to the hotel.

KATE: He seems nice.

REZA: Yeah he is.

KATE: Well uhm. I promised Marie I'd pick up lunch, I better get going.

REZA: Well lemme take you.

KATE: It's okay, I can handle it.

REZA: Honestly, when you see what she've ordered, you're going to need another pair of hands.

KATE: Really. I can do it.

BOB: Kate... Go.

[Radio chatter.]

COP: This is mobile three.

RADIO: I have Tony Almeida at CTU for George Mason.

COP: Sir.

MASON: Yeah I heard.

MASON: Tony?

TONY: George,

MASON: I thought I told you to handle this yourself?

TONY: Well the truth is right now if I wouldn't have to talk to you again I'd be happy, but the IT people need to access the data stream Paula was working on and I need your password.

MASON: My password?

TONY: Yeah.

MASON: Hendrix.

TONY: It's with an X?

MASON: How else would you spell it…

TONY: Yeah. Right. Okay, thanks George.

MASON: Tony.

TONY: What?

MASON: How's Paula doing?

TONY: Not good. We're still trying to figure out, but she's unresponsive. Look, I gotta go.

MASON: Okay.

[Hangs up.]

MASON: Thank you.

MASON: Am I contagious?

COP: No.

[Jack arrives at Simi Valley, Joe's house.]

JACK: Joe, it's Jack. Lemme in!

JOE: Where's Eddy?

JACK: He's dead.

JOE: What about Chris and Scott?

JACK: They're dead too. Come on Joe lemme in!

[Door opens. Door is still secured by chain.]

JOE: I just talked to Eddy half an hour ago.

JACK: Joe we gotta do this inside! Lemme in!

[Opens chain.]

JOE: Eddy said the job went out without a hitch, what happened then and now?

[Jack pulls out gun when Joe is securing door.]

JACK: I killed them. They were resisting arrest. I'll kill you too Joe. I mean it. Put it down. On the table. PUT IT DOWN! ON THE TABLE NOW!

[Joe puts rifle on table.]

JACK: Have a seat on the couch.

[Jack takes rifle.]

JOE: You killed Goren.

JACK I did what I had to find you.

JOE: Then what Jack. What do you want?

JACK: Who told you to hit CTU today?

JOE: What makes you think anyone told me to do anything?

JACK: Because there's a nuclear device somewhere in Los Angeles set to go off today! That's right Joe, CTU was a secondary target! A way of stopping us from getting to the bomb. Whoever that got you to do this job, they used you, they set you up.

JOE: You're lying Jack.

JACK: No Joe, this time I'm telling you the truth. How else do you think I got to Goren? Come on Joe, you're not stupid! Think about it! Why did you hit CTU today?! Of all the days you could've, why did you hit CTU today? You weren't just told where to hit, you were told when! That's the truth Joe. So I'm gonna give you one last chance.. Who told you to hit CTU today?

[Dog comes out and bites Jack. Jack is down. Joe escapes. Jack shoots dog. Joe got away before Jack could secure him. Joe ran into a nearby shed/building. Jack shoots door and kicks open door. Nobody. Another metal door slams close.]

JACK: Open the door Joe! Open the door! OPEN THE DOOR! There's no other way out of here Joe.

[Jack uses pickaxe to try to hack down the wall.]

---

[Phone rings.]

CARLA MATHESON: Hello?

KIM: Carla.

CARLA: Kim where are you?

KIM: The emergency room.

CARLA: Where's Megan?

KIM: She's here Carla, she's in with the doctors.

CARLA: Oh my God, what happened?

KIM: She collapsed, she started shaking, the doctor said she had a seizure because of pressure on her brain.

CARLA: Where are you? What hospital?

KIM: First listen to what I have to say.

CARLA: NO YOU LISTEN! YOU KIDNAPPED MY DAUGHTER AND ATTACKED MY HUSBAND.

KIM: You know that's not true. It's Gary's fault that Megan is here. The doctor said she had a seizure because of head injury. Gary threw her down, and Megan hit her head.

CARLA: It was an accident, Kim.

KIM: Stop making excuses for him, stop denying what's happening!

CARLA: This isn't your problem Kim!

KIM: They found other things on Megan's x-rays. They think she's been abused, I think so too.

[Carla cries.]

KIM: Carla, are you there?

CARLA: Yeah I'm here.

KIM: The hospital's called the police, they're on their way. You should be here when they come.

CARLA: Where are you?

KIM: Saint Virgil's emergency room.

CARLA: I'm 20 minutes away.

[Carla hangs up. Crashes into Gary.]

[Jack finds wall to be metallic too. Joe watches by security camera.]

JACK: You gotta know that tactical teams are on their way Joe. There's no where for you to go! The people who gave you the information for CTU, the schematic, all the access codes- I want you to know what they're trying to do. They want to destroy this entire country, starting with Los Angeles! IS THAT REALLY WHAT YOU WANT JOE? I thought you wanted to give the power back to the people. Isn't that what you used to say? Who do you think is going to be at ground zero Joe? You're not fighting the federal government. We're talking about innocent people! How many of them are going to have to die for you today? Hundred-thousand? Two hundred-thousand? Naw, I don't think so. I think it's gonna be a lot closer to a million, once you factor in the radiation. Is that what you want your legacy to be Joe? Come on Joe, just open the door. Sonuvabitch. It's a funny thing about people like you Joe, you wanna blame the rest of the world for everything wrong with your life. Government's too big, they're too powerful. Heh. Now here's a bit of irony for you now, you've got all the power now Joe. You've got all the power. Question is, what you gonna do with it. You gonna let all those people die Joe? Dammit Joe! YOU ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME! We are all running out of time.

---

REZA: You uh.. You don't really like me much do you.

KATE: Heh. That's crazy.

REZA: I've been working for your father for what.. 3 years now? And I've been dating Marie for 2.. You and I, we never really.. Never really got to know each other.

KATE: No. No we haven't.

REZA: So you don't know who I am?

KATE: I know my sister loves you.

REZA: Yes she does.

KATE: Wait, where are you going? It's not the way to Brent's.

REZA: I want to show you something first.

KATE: What?

REZA: It'll only take a few minutes.

KATE: Where're we going?

REZA: I'm gonna let you in a little secret. It's for getting to know each other better.

KATE: Where are we taking me Reza?

REZA: You'll find out.

KATE: Tell me now or stop the car.

REZA: This is a surprise.

KATE: Stop the car Reza.

REZA: We're almost there..

KATE: I SAID STOP THE CAR!

[Car screeches to a halt. Kate gets out.]

REZA: What are you doing?

KATE: Why won't you tell me where we're going?

REZA: Cause I wanted to show you the house!

[Reza points at house next to them.]

KATE: What house?

REZA: The house! I just bought for Marie as a wedding present. Wanted you to be the first one to see it.

[Kate calms down. Smiles awkwardly.]

---

MAN: Stand back. Okay, step aside.

[Workers lift debris off of Paula.]

DOCTOR: Get ready to get her blood pressure. Okay. BP's 80 over 50, get some saline into her stat!

TONY: Is she alright?

DOCTOR: She's hemorrhaging internally, the gutter's staunched the bleeding but once we lifted it off, the dam broke.

TONY: Can you stop it?

DOCTOR: If we don't get her to the ER now, she'll bleed to death. Ready.. Easy.. Watch her neck there.

[Medics turns Paula over onto a stretcher.]

DOCTOR: Okay let's go. Let's get her out guys. Got it. Yeah. Okay, one, two, three. Alright easy. Set her down. Let's go! Let's go!

[Radio chatter. Paula unconscious. Tony helps medics push Paula's stretcher.]

MASON: Get a structural engineer on the phone and get him here now! In the mean time, I have to keep people working! What's going on here?

TONY: Actually I should as you the same question George. I thought you weren't coming back here.

MASON: I changed my mind.

TONY: Oh you did. Why?

MASON: I don't have to answer these questions and drop the attitude. How bad is she?

TONY: She's bad. She's bleeding internally.

MASON: Everything you do at the hospital for her, you can do it here right?

DOCTOR: No she needs surgery. We can't do that in the field.

MASON: You gonna put her on anesthesia?

DOCTOR: That's right.

TONY: What are you doing George...

MASON: How long is she going to be under?

DOCTOR: Couple of hours.

MASON: Okay then she stays here.

TONY: Look George we can't keep her-

MASON: Look everything we had on this nuke was destroyed, and the only intel we have left is what Paula sent to the database in NSA, and they didn't get the code!

TONY: Well we'll assign other IT people to retrieve it!

MASON: She's the only person who can decrypt those files and you know it!

TONY: Okay we'll send a programmer on her file to get it!

MASON: We don't have time! I need her here, and I need her lucid, just for a few minutes. I don't care what you have to do, can you get her conscious.

DOCTOR: I can administer epinephrine. Maybe get her BP up temporarily.

TONY: You're out of your mind George. You crazy.

MASON: Tell yourself that if it makes you feel better.

TONY: This girl deserves a chance to live.

MASON: Wake her up. Now!

[Tony looks away.]

PALMER (Phone): Are you more clear? Good. I'll speak to you soon. Buh-bye.

[Palmer hangs up.]

KRESEGE: Sir. This is Jenny's statement to the press about the CTU bombing. I took a quick pass, but we can go over it whenever we get a chance.

PALMER: Were you ever going to tell me? About the 30 minutes? After Jack Bauer called? And the time you finally you warned CTU? Lynne, I am the President of the United States. Do you really think I wouldn't find out? What possible reason could you have had for keeping this information from me?

KRESEGE: Sir I tried to tell you.

PALMER: Not hard enough.

KRESEGE: Sir, when Jack Bauer called, you were with the press, I desperately tried to get a message to you.

PALMER: Good. Now, after we found out that CTU have been hit- you still kept from me the fact that you knew 30 minutes earlier.

KRESEGE: Sir you're right, there's no excuse. None.

PALMER: After Jack Bauer called, did you tell anyone? You told Rayburn didn't you. And he was the one who wanted to keep this from me. That's why you two were arguing Lynne.

KRESEGE: Sir I think under these circumstances, that it would be best if I tender my resignation.

PALMER: I decide what's best!

KRESEGE: Yes of course sir.

PALMER: As much as I appreciate the gesture- I don't have time to appease your guilty conscience. But I still trust you Lynne. And I trust you to tell me everything that happened.

---

MICHELLE: What's going on? Why's she here?

DOCTOR: She's in surgery.

MICHELLE: Why's Paula's still here?

TONY: That was Mason's call.

MICHELLE: She has almost no chance of surviving if we don't get her to a hospital now!

TONY: Yeah I know!

MICHELLE: I thought Mason wasn't even coming back!

TONY: Well he's back. We're trying to revive Paula long enough so she can access the information she sent to NSA.

MICHELLE: So he's just gonna let her die?!

TONY: I'm not so sure that Mason made the wrong call. I mean Paula is the only person who can retrieve the information.

[Tony cries. Michelle places hesitantly on Tony's back.]

MICHELLE: I'm.. I'm sorry. I'm sorry Tony.

TONY: It's just that. I'm the one who brought her to CTU.I hired her. This job was all she ever wanted to do. She never even got a chance to do it.

MICHELLE: She did.

TONY: We better get back to work.

----

SECRET SERVICE AGENT: Please come with us sir.

RAYBURN: Come with you where?

SSAGENT: The president wants to see you.

[Agents lead Rayburn to President's office. Passes Lynne.]

RAYBURN: Mr. President?

PALMER: You're out Eric. Effective immediately.

RAYBURN: Sir, if this is about-

PALMER: You know exactly what this is about. You lied to me.

RAYBURN: Is that what Lynne told you?

PALMER: Lynne didn't have to tell me anything.

RAYBURN: You can't dismiss me now, sir. Not in the middle of a crisis. You need me here.

PALMER: I need someone I can trust.

RAYBURN: I made a decision you couldn't make.

PALMER: I'm the only person who could make. And now 27 are dead.

RAYBURN: Collateral damage, sir. Regrettable. But necessary, so that Jack Bauer could get to Joseph Wald.

[Signals in SSAgent.]

PALMER: Get him out of here. Mr. Armus is waiting to talk to you.

[Agent and Rayburn leaves.]

---

JACK: Okay Joe, this is how it lays out. Tactical teams are going to be here in less then 2 minutes. This is gonna end in one of two ways, you are gonna be dead, or you gonna spend the rest of your life in prison. I'm giving you one last chance to do the right thing Joe. Open the door. I just need to know who told you to target CTU. JOE I'M OUT OF TIME. JOE OPEN THE DOOR. You're a sonuvabitch Joe.

[Takes rifles and empties it on metallic door. Door doesn't budge. Joe opens door. Jack takes out gun. Kicks open door.]

JACK: Drop the weapon Joe.

JOE: The woman who gave me the plans to CTU, I only met her twice, the second time- Eddy took some pictures from down the block.

JACK: DROP THE WEAPON!

JOE: It's over Jack. I can't go back to jail...

[Joe shoots himself.]

JACK: NOOO!
