Jack Bauer voice over: Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter have been targeted. And people that I work with may be involved in both. I'm Federal Agent Jack Bauer, and today is the longest day of my life.

------------------------

Previously on 24:

Patty Brooks: You and Sherry were childhood sweethearts?

David Palmer: That's right.

Patty Brooks: And there's never been anyone else?

David Palmer: I'm running for president, Patty. I can't answer that.

Patty Brooks: Come on.

David Palmer: Are you flirting with me, Patty?

Patty Brooks: I don't know. I think I might be.

------------------------

Patty Brooks: I did what you told me.

Sherry Palmer: And?

Patty Brooks: I think it's working. But it's gonna lead to other things, Mrs. Palmer.

------------------------

George Mason: Teri, I'm busy. Nina can talk to you.

Teri Bauer: You are not gonna let my husband die.

George Mason: No one is gonna let Jack die. We just can't go through with the trade right now.

Teri Bauer: There's no difference. Without your help he doesn’t have a chance.

------------------------

Victor Drazen: I am willing to trade the life of Jack Bauer for that of my son.

George Mason: OK, we're here. Here's Alexis. Where's Jack?

------------------------

Jack Bauer: Drop the weapon! You son of a bitch!

Andre Drazen: If your people deliver my brother as promised, you'll live.

Jack Bauer: What about my daughter?

Andre Drazen: You'll hear from us when this is over.

Jack Bauer: Yeah?

Andre Drazen: Just south of the platform there's a parked car. If you want to see Kim alive, talk to no one, get into it, and head towards Century City.

------------------------

The following takes place between 10:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M. on the day of the California Presidential Primary.

[Jack drives away from the oil field. Andre Drazen calls him on the cell phone.]

Jack Bauer: Yeah?

Andre Drazen: Proceed to Palmer's hotel.

Jack Bauer: What do you want me to do?

Andre Drazen: When your government abducted my father, they also froze 200 million dollars of our assets. Palmer has the necessary clearance to unfreeze them.

Jack Bauer: So in the end, everything that happened today was just because of money?

Andre Drazen: I wouldn't say that. That money is ours. We'll call Palmer at this number at exactly 10:45. Once I receive confirmation of the transfer, I'll give you further instructions.

Jack Bauer: What kind of instructions? You want me to take out Palmer.

Andre Drazen: Well, of course. That's why we let you go. That's why we have your daughter. Jack?

Jack Bauer: I'm still here.

Andre Drazen: Remember, we'll call at exactly 10:45. I trust I don't have to tell you what will happen if Palmer doesn't answer.

------------------------

[Palmer is sitting alone in his hotel suite when Patty Brooks enters.]

David Palmer: Hello, Patty.

Patty Brooks: You left the party early.

David Palmer: I wasn't in the mood. What's up?

Patty Brooks: I was just wondering if you had a chance to look at the Dallas schedule.

David Palmer: It's fine.

Patty Brooks: Good. Um, do you need anything else from me?

David Palmer: Sit down. A little while ago, we started down a road that was gonna take us to a dangerous place.

Patty Brooks: I know. And I'm sorry.

David Palmer: Are you? Sorry?

Patty Brooks: I'm attracted to you, Senator. I always have been.

David Palmer: Meet me in 20 minutes in room 907. I'll be waiting for you.

[Palmer gives her a key card to another hotel room. Sherry comes in.]

Sherry Palmer: Oh, David, good. I… I uh… need to talk to you for a second.

Patty Brooks: I’ll… I’ll just go make those changes to the schedule.

David Palmer: Thanks, Patty.

Sherry Palmer: I, uh… told Keith and Nicole that we're going to stump it separately for the next couple of days.

David Palmer: What did they say?

Sherry Palmer: They know we're not getting along, David.

David Palmer: Fine. What are they going to do?

Sherry Palmer: They'll stay with me. Unless, of course, you want them with you.

David Palmer: No. I could use a couple of days alone.

Sherry Palmer: Great.

------------------------

[At CTU, Mason has Nina attempt to locate Alexis Drazen with satellite simulators since the tracking device was destroyed.]

George Mason: We gotta work under a couple of assumptions here. The only way to find Jack is through Drazen. The only way to get to Drazen is if Alexis takes us there. So we’ve gotta devote all of our resources to finding Alexis.

Nina Myers: Yeah, but he shed the trackers.

George Mason: I know. So we use the satellite and run computer simulators.

[The phone rings.]

George Mason: Yeah?

Jack Bauer: George, it's me.

George Mason: Jack, are you all right?

Jack Bauer: Yeah. Drazen let me go. But I can't come in yet.

George Mason: What do you mean, you can’t come in?

Jack Bauer: George, listen to me. Tell Teri I'm out. I know she's worried about me. If Drazen calls, don't tell him that we talked. It'll put Kim in danger.

George Mason: Fine. But, Jack, let us help you.

Jack Bauer: George, I gotta go.

[Jack hangs up.]

George Mason: I don't like the sound of that.

Nina Myers: What do you think he's doing?

George Mason: If Drazen let him go for a reason… Jack won't let us help him, he won't tell us what he's doing… Whatever he's doing, he's trying to protect Kim. What's the one thing we know for sure that Drazen wants?

Nina Myers: Palmer dead.

George Mason: Jane, connect me with the Palmer suite, Secret Service.

------------------------

[The red van pulls up to a warehouse at the Port of Los Angeles where Kim is being held. Andre and Victor rush to Alexis' side as a doctor treats him.]

Andre Drazen: What's happening? What’s wrong?

Serbian Doctor: I can't stop the internal bleeding.

Victor Drazen: Do not let him die! Alexie.

Alexis Drazen: Father…

Andre Drazen: Alexie! Do something!

[The doctor tries to revive Alexis, but he dies.]

Serbian Doctor: I'm sorry. There's nothing more I can do.

Victor Drazen: No. Leave us. We're family.

Andre Drazen: First Mother and Martina… Now Alexis. And it's Bauer!

[Andre is furious, and wants Jack to hear Kimberly's screams as he kills her.]

Victor Drazen: Andre, not yet! We still need her!

Andre Drazen: Call him. Let him hear her die!

Victor Drazen: Andre!

[Victor intercedes and stops his son from killing Kim.]

------------------------

Sherry Palmer: Uh, could you wait for me, please? Thanks.

[Sherry stops to talk to Patty.]

Sherry Palmer: Well?

Patty Brooks: He wants to see me.

Sherry Palmer: When?

Patty Brooks: Tonight.

Sherry Palmer: He didn't waste much time, huh? How are you doing?

Patty Brooks: I told you before, I feel really uncomfortable…

Sherry Palmer: No, no, no, Patty, please. Don't patronize me. You feel uncomfortable, but not because you're ready to be with my husband. You feel uncomfortable because you're doing it with my knowledge and consent.

Patty Brooks: Why are you doing this, Mrs. Palmer?

Sherry Palmer: It's… It's important for David's career that I have his full confidence. And I no longer have that.

Patty Brooks: And you want me to get it?

Sherry Palmer: Yes. And report back to me.

Patty Brooks: We both know what it's going to…?

Sherry Palmer: Yes. We do.

Patty Brooks: And you're OK with that?

Sherry Palmer: No, I never said I was OK with it. But I'm willing to accept it… because it's necessary. Your elevator's waiting.

------------------------

Nina Myers (over phone): Yes, just make sure that Palmer has an extra layer of security.

Paul (over phone): It's gonna be a little difficult. We already…

Nina Myers (over phone): Yes, I know.

Tony Almeida: Hey, Nina, you got a minute?

Nina Myers (over phone): Hold on.

Tony Almeida: This is important.

Nina Myers (over phone): Paul, we're done. OK.

[Nina hangs up.]

Nina Myers: What?

Tony Almeida: The schematics to the detention facility where they were holding Victor Drazen.

Nina Myers: Yeah?

Tony Almeida: They've been tampered with.

Nina Myers: Who has access to these archives?

Tony Almeida: Division and District.

Nina Myers: Would you be able to find out who's had access to these in the last month?

Tony Almeida: Yeah.

Nina Myers: Well, do it.

Tony Almeida: All right.

Nina Myers: The sooner the better.

Tony Almeida: You think we’re dealing with a second dirty agent?

Nina Myers: Yeah.

[Mason comes up to Nina.]

George Mason: What did Tony want?

Nina Myers: He was just telling me why it was so hard to pick up a thread on Drazen.

George Mason: Listen, I need your help. Teri Bauer's a basket case.

Nina Myers: I don't know what you think I can do.

George Mason: You're good with her. You calm her down. Come on! I gotta deal with Chappelle, DOD's still trying to pass the buck…

Nina Myers: All right.

George Mason: She's in the conference room.

Nina Myers: I know.

[Nina goes over to speak to Teri.]

Teri Bauer: Is it over? Did they make the trade?

Nina Myers: Jack's safe. He's no longer a hostage.

Teri Bauer: Is he on his way?

Nina Myers: We don't know where he is.

Teri Bauer: What?

Nina Myers: He called in to tell us he was OK, but he didn't say anything else.

Teri Bauer: Why not?

Nina Myers: I think it’s because Drazen wants him to do something else.

Teri Bauer: That doesn't make any sense. Why would he do anything for that man?

Nina Myers: I think it's to protect Kim.

Teri Bauer: What are you talking about?

Nina Myers: Teri, the reason that Kim isn't back is because…

Teri Bauer: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Nina Myers: No, just listen to me. We think that's where Jack is now. He's trying to bring Kim back. He's not communicating with us… to protect her. I'm sorry.

[Teri cries.]

------------------------

Victor Drazen: The task we have given your father is a simple one.

Kim Bauer: And if he does it… will you let me go?

Teri Bauer: We will see.

------------------------

David Palmer: Jack, I just got your message.

Jack Bauer: Senator, I need to see you right away.

David Palmer: Your office said you might be coming here.

Jack Bauer: I am coming there.

David Palmer: Why?

Jack Bauer: I have a message from Victor Drazen.

David Palmer: They also said that Drazen has your daughter, and that you could be a threat. They've added to my security and Secret Service has been instructed not to let you anywhere near me.

Jack Bauer: Senator, they do have my daughter, but I'm not coming there to harm you in any way.

David Palmer: What does Drazen want you to do?

Jack Bauer: He wants to speak to you on the phone at 10:45. He’s given me a scrambled phone so that it can't be traced.

David Palmer: What does he want to talk to me about?

Jack Bauer: About money. Senator, I'll explain everything as soon as I get there. Just tell your people to let me through.

David Palmer: Drazen's people, who are holding your daughter hostage, want me dead. You're asking a lot, Jack.

Jack Bauer: Senator, they had my wife and daughter earlier this morning, and I still managed to save your life. I'm not coming there to harm you in any way. I give you my word, sir.

------------------------

[Patty joins Palmer in the second hotel room.]

Patty Brooks: Hi.

David Palmer: Anyone see you come up?

Patty Brooks: No, I was careful.

David Palmer: Why don't you sit down?

Patty Brooks: Well, how much time do we have?

David Palmer: Don't worry about that. I have something I wanna tell you, Patty.

Patty Brooks: Yes?

David Palmer: You're fired. Pack up. Get out. And don't bother to ask me or anyone else on my staff for a reference. Prospective employers won't like what I have to say.

Patty Brooks: I don't understand.

David Palmer: I know what you're doing. You're working with my wife against me.

Patty Brooks: Senator, I'm… I’m sorry. I didn't mean to deceive you like this. It’s just that your wife insisted and I didn't know what to say.

David Palmer: “No” would have done it.

Patty Brooks: I know, I know. I should have. It's just that… she can be scary sometimes.

David Palmer: So can I.

Patty Brooks: Senator, obviously I have made a terrible mistake in judgment, and if there's anything I can do to earn a second chance…

David Palmer: I want you out of this hotel in 30 minutes.

------------------------

Tony Almeida: You gotta take a look at this. Now, these are the six people that have accessed the detention-facility archives, right? The first five were just doing scheduled backups. Here's the sixth.

Nina Myers: George? George is the mole?

Tony Almeida: It's possible. He accessed that file four days ago. Why would he have done that if he wasn't involved? You gotta call Chappelle.

Nina Myers: No, you need to shut down his network access. You can't let anything go in or out.

Tony Almeida: OK. I just gotta figure out how I'm gonna do it.

------------------------

[Palmer enters his hotel room. Sherry is there.]

Sherry Palmer: Where were you?

David Palmer: Downstairs.

Sherry Palmer: Downstairs?

David Palmer: Yeah. In room 907… with Patty.

Sherry Palmer: What?

David Palmer: Save your energy, Sherry. No need to act surprised. I fired her.

Sherry Palmer: You know your problem, David? You think everyone's conspiring against you, when in fact we're just trying to help.

David Palmer: By putting another woman in my bed? Do you realize how sick that is?

Sherry Palmer: Oh, come on. We chose a certain life, and we chose that a long time ago. It's not about a house in the suburbs and PTA meetings. And whether you're willing to accept it or not, we serve a higher purpose.

David Palmer: You are not qualified to talk about higher purposes.

Sherry Palmer: Oh, I'm not?

David Palmer: No, you're not.

Sherry Palmer: We are about to move into the White House. That's right, we. You and I. And all the issues, all the politics, all the hard work that's gonna help get us there - I'm as much a part of that as you. So don't even try to deny it.

David Palmer: Please, Sherry… don’t go there.

Sherry Palmer: I'm not begrudging a single thing, David. I don't need the limelight.

David Palmer: You sent her to spy on me!

Sherry Palmer: That's right! And do you wanna know why?

David Palmer: Yes, I do.

Sherry Palmer: Because you need me to look out for you. And if you cut me out of your inner circle, like you threatened earlier today, you will fail. In every way. You need me, David.

[There’s a knock on door.]

David Palmer: What?

Secret Service Agent: Jack Bauer just arrived, sir.

David Palmer: I'll be out in a moment. (To Sherry) We're not done here.

[Palmer goes out to meet Jack.]

David Palmer: Jack.

Jack Bauer: Senator.

David Palmer: Convincing Secret Service to allow you to come up here to see me was difficult enough. They’re not gonna let me out of their sight.

Jack Bauer: Senator, that's fine. All that matters is that you talk to Victor Drazen when he calls, listen to his demands and cooperate.

David Palmer: How did they get your daughter? I thought she was being protected.

Jack Bauer: I did too. Look, Senator, we don't have much time. He could call any second.

David Palmer: OK, you said this was about money?

Jack Bauer: Yes. 200 million dollars of his was frozen after he was abducted.

David Palmer: And?

Jack Bauer: He wants it. He says you have the necessary clearance to get it back to him. He’s gonna give you instructions when he calls.

David Palmer: That's why Drazen sent you here? To get me to release his funds?

Jack Bauer: As soon as he has confirmation on the wire transfer, he's going to ask me to take action against you.

David Palmer: To kill me?

Jack Bauer: Yes. Of course, I would never do you any harm, Senator. You know that. He has my daughter. I'm just trying to buy some time.

David Palmer: Jack, I don't have the authority to transfer those funds, and Drazen knows that.

Jack Bauer: What do you mean?

David Palmer: He knows our system. That money's gone. To be honest with you, I don't think that's the real reason he's calling.

[The scrambled cell phone Andre gave Jack rings.]

Jack Bauer: Senator, please, answer this phone.

David Palmer: OK, Jack. I'll do what I can. I'll tell him what he wants to hear. I can't guarantee he'll buy it.

Jack Bauer: Thank you.

[Palmer answers the phone.]

David Palmer: This is David Palmer.

Victor Drazen: Senator Palmer. It must be nice being reunited with your friend Jack Bauer.

David Palmer: What do you want?

[Victor doesn't answer.]

David Palmer: Drazen? Drazen?

[Jack suddenly realizes this is a trap.]

Jack Bauer: He knows you can't get the money. Senator!

[Jack tosses the cell phone out the window. It explodes, and Kimberly hears the detonation from the other end of the phone at the warehouse. She cries, fearing the worst.]

Kim Bauer: No!

Secret Service Agent: I got the Senator. Don’t move. Are you all right, sir?

[The Drazens are satisfied. Meanwhile, Jack and Palmer get up from under the debris. They are unhurt.]

------------------------

Jack Bauer: A detonation of this magnitude had to be military plastic. See if you can get a powder residue. We'll try and trace it.

Secret Service Agent: Yes, sir.

[Sherry runs into the suite.]

Sherry Palmer: Where is he? Where is he? David!

Secret Service Agent: Ma'am, this area's not secure…

Sherry Palmer: David!

David Palmer: Let her through. It's OK. Just calm down. Calm down. Now, where's Keith and Nicole?

Sherry Palmer: Downstairs at the party. Are you all right?

David Palmer: I'm fine.

Sherry Palmer: Oh, God.

Jack Bauer: Senator.

David Palmer: Sherry, this is Jack Bauer from CTU, the man who saved my life twice today.

Jack Bauer: Mrs. Palmer.

Sherry Palmer: The man that put your life in danger.

David Palmer: Sherry, please!

Radio: I need a status report on the senator.

Jack Bauer: Don't answer that yet. Senator, we need to talk about this. My daughter…

David Palmer: Tell them you don't know yet.

Ron: This is Ron. We don't have a 20 on the senator yet.

Radio: Copy that.

Sherry Palmer: What's going on?

Jack Bauer: The man that planned this explosion needs to believe that it was a success.

Sherry Palmer: Wait a minute. You mean, you want the world to think that David is dead?

Jack Bauer: Yes, ma'am.

Sherry Palmer: Absolutely not. David, what's this all about?

David Palmer: His daughter is being held hostage.

Sherry Palmer: But we can't have people thinking that David was assassinated. It's preposterous!

Jack Bauer: If we don't, ma'am, my daughter will die.

Sherry Palmer: Then what do you suggest we do, Mr. Bauer?

Jack Bauer: We keep the senator quarantined for the next few hours. We leak a story to the press that he was killed in the explosion.

Sherry Palmer: You've got to be kidding.

Jack Bauer: I've never been more serious in my life.

Sherry Palmer: No. No, it's not gonna happen. David, tell him.

David Palmer: We’re talking about the life of a young innocent girl here, Sherry.

Sherry Palmer: David, we cannot keep playing games with the public and expect to keep their trust.

Jack Bauer: Senator, if we're gonna do this, we need to do this now.

David Palmer: Go downstairs. Bring the children up. Talk to no one. I mean it.

Jack Bauer: I need all the Secret Service agents that have seen the senator. Sir, who is your senior chief of staff?

David Palmer: Mike Novick.

Jack Bauer: Bring in Mr. Novick as well. We’ll brief him at the same time. As soon as Mr. Palmer's family gets here, no one is to enter or exit this area. Is that uderstood?

Secret Service Agent: Mm-hm.

Jack Bauer: Good.

David Palmer: Now, Sherry!

[Sherry goes downstairs to get Nicole and Keith from downstairs.]

Jack Bauer: I'm very sorry, Senator.

David Palmer: Don't worry about it. Are you sure this is gonna work?

Jack Bauer: It has to.

------------------------

[Mason realizes that his network access isn’t working.]

George Mason: Hey, Almeida. What's going on with my network access?

Tony Almeida: What do you mean?

George Mason: I can't get into archives, I can’t access Palmer's itinerary.

Tony Almeida: I'll call ITS.

George Mason: I don't have time for that. Are you up?

Tony Almeida: Yeah, I think so.

George Mason: Let's see. Yeah, yeah, here it is. So Palmer's still going to Dallas tomorrow. Call Secret Service and find out what time his plane leaves.

Tony Almeida: Division's got it covered. I mean, I don't think you have to waste…

George Mason: Hey, Tony, real simple. Call Secret Service. Find out what time his plane leaves. And get my network up and running.

[Tony calls Nina.]

Nina Myers: What happened?

Tony Almeida: Well, he found out he's cut off. Not only that, he seems overly interested in what happens to Palmer after he leaves LA.

Nina Myers: We should alert Chappelle.

Tony Almeida: No, not yet. If we go to Chappelle without evidence, he's gonna slice us up.

Nina Myers: What about his access?

Tony Almeida: I'm gonna have to restore it.

Nina Myers: All right, but monitor everything and send it to me.

Tony Almeida: All right.

George Mason: Put it up on all the monitors! Everybody, eyes on monitors.

News Reporter on TV: Events are unfolding by the minute in this tragic and stunning development. The hotel has been sealed off and only a limited number of authorized personnel are being allowed inside. But we have just heard from a spokesperson from the Palmer camp, who has just confirmed that Senator David Palmer has been killed in an explosion. There is speculation this may be related to this morning's assassination attempt, but at this time no one has been arrested.

[Andre and Victor happily watch the news report.]

Andre Drazen: We did it, father. We did it.

Victor Drazen: Ah, yes.

Andre Drazen: All right. I'll take care of the girl, then we can leave.

Victor Drazen: Do not do anything until we know that Jack Bauer is dead. Do nothing.

[Andre phones the Palmer suite.]

Secret Service Agent: Sir, we just contacted Mike Novick. He's on his way.

Jack Bauer: Good.

[Another Secret Service agent tells Jack he has a call for him.]

Secret Service Agent: Agent Bauer, it's for you.

Jack Bauer: Thank you.

[Jack takes the call.]

Jack Bauer: Yeah?

Andre Drazen: You're a very lucky man, Mr. Bauer. I was calling to confirm your death, but I see you've survived.

Jack Bauer: Andre. I have an offer to make you. You've already killed Senator Palmer. I'm the last person on your list. I'll make you a trade: me for my daughter.

Andre Drazen: Come to Port of Los Angeles. Dock 11-A.

Jack Bauer: What assurances do I have that you'll let her go when I arrive?

Andre Drazen: Sadly, none. But we've decided the sins of the father need not be visited upon her.

Jack Bauer: Port of Los Angeles. Dock 11-A. I'll be there in 30 minutes.

Andre Drazen: And, Jack, if you bring your colleagues or involve them in any way, we'll know.

Jack Bauer: I understand.

[Jack hangs up.]

Jack Bauer: I have to go alone.

David Palmer: Good luck.

Jack Bauer: Thank you, sir.

[Kim turns to Andre, crying.]

Kim Bauer: Why are you doing this to us?

[Jack is talking to Nina on the phone.]

Nina Myers: Yeah, Jack, I can tell him, but you should really let us help you on this.

Jack Bauer: No, I can't, not yet.

Nina Myers: Well, at least give us a general position, so we can be nearby.

Jack Bauer: Nina, I said no. If Victor Drazen's got someone else working on the inside, it could put Kim in danger.

Nina Myers: All right.

Jack Bauer: Let me speak to Teri.

Nina Myers: OK.

[Nina goes over to Teri in the conference room and hand her the phone.]

Nina Myers: It's Jack.

Teri Bauer: Jack?

Jack Bauer: Hey, sweetheart. How are you holding up?

Teri Bauer: Jack, where are you? Do you know about Kim?

Jack Bauer: Yes. I'm on my way to pick her up. She's fine.

Teri Bauer: Where is she?

Jack Bauer: I can't say right now, sweetheart, but I promise you, soon she's going to be with you.

Teri Bauer: Thank God. Jack, what do you mean “she”? What about you?

Jack Bauer: I'm sorry. I meant to say both of us.

Teri Bauer: Oh, good. I just… I don't think I can take much more of this. I need you both here, Jack.

Jack Bauer: I know, sweetheart. Look, it's almost over. Just hang in there, OK?

Teri Bauer: OK.

Jack Bauer: Teri?

Teri Bauer: What?

Jack Bauer: I love you.

Teri Bauer: I love you too, Jack. Honey, um… There's something I have to tell you. I… I've been waiting for the right time.

Jack Bauer: What is it?

Teri Bauer: You're gonna be a father. Again.

Jack Bauer: What are you saying, that you're pregnant?

Teri Bauer: Well, yes, that's generally how it works, Jack. Jack?

Jack Bauer: I'm still here. I'm sorry, it was the last thing I thought you were gonna say. Are you all right with this? Are you happy about this?

Teri Bauer: Oh, yes. I am. I keep thinking that… maybe it's the second chance we've been talking about. Are you there?

[Jack is overcome with emotion, knowing that he may never see his wife again.]

Jack Bauer: Yeah, yeah, I'm still here.

Teri Bauer: Are you happy about it?

Jack Bauer: Yes. Yes, I'm happy about it. I'm very, very happy.

Teri Bauer: Good. Are you sure everything's OK?

Jack Bauer: Yeah. Sweetheart… I promise you everything is gonna be OK. It's just been a… a really, really long day.

Teri Bauer: Just get on back here so we can all go home, OK?

Jack Bauer: OK. Teri… I love you so much.

Teri Bauer: I love you too, Jack. I'll see you soon.

------------------------

Andre Drazen: I had a sister once. She was full of life… like you. She was a photographer and took hundreds of pictures. I used to love looking at them. Now I can't do that anymore. You know how she died? Has anyone told you? Your father killed her.

Kim Bauer: My father would never kill innocent people.

Andre Drazen: You wanted to know. Now I’m telling you.

Kim Bauer: I don't believe you.

Andre Drazen: Oh, he says it was an accident. But when a man goes halfway around the world to set off a bomb, he's responsible for any “accidents” that result. Has your father ever talked about his work? About where he goes… on those long trips overseas? Of course not.

Kim Bauer: He can't.

Andre Drazen: Because he's a criminal.

Kim Bauer: My father is a good man.

Andre Drazen: No. He's not.

------------------------

[Mason summons Nina and Tony to Jack's office.]

George Mason: Palmer's still alive. The suite at his hotel blew up, but apparently he got out unscathed.

Tony Almeida: Why the news reports?

George Mason: I haven't been fully debriefed, but I guess it makes sense as a defensive strategy. Palmer's safe as long as the hitters think he's dead. So, this goes no further than the three of us until the public's made aware that he survived, right?

Nina Myers: What about the perpetrators?

George Mason: It's unclear. Our Intel is being refreshed by Secret Service as we speak. So, stay at your stations. Start rebuilding profiles based on the incoming information and we'll have a new plan in place within the hour. By the way, have you spoken to Jack since the first time he called?

Tony Almeida: Not me.

[Nina nods her head no.]

George Mason: It doesn't matter. This'll all be over soon anyway.

[Tony and Nina head back to the floor.]

Tony Almeida: Have you talked to Jack?

Nina Myers: Yeah, he called, but he won't let us help him.

------------------------

Kim Bauer: You know, it's kind of cold. Do you mind if I have some coffee?

[Kim reaches for a brewing coffeepot, and, with her bound hands, throws the scalding liquid onto the guard who is watching her. Kim makes a run for it, as the guard calls for Andre.]

Guard: Andre! Andre!

[The men chase Kim as she ducks in between the docks of the port. She loosens the ropes around her wrists. Andre spots Kim. He draws his gun on her.]

Andre Drazen: Stop right there, Kim! Don't move! Don't be foolish! You'll drown!

[Kim jumps into the water. The men train their flashlights over the dark harbor, but they don’t see Kim free herself from the rope under the water. She emerges unnoticed and hides underneath the dock.]

------------------------

[Nina comes into the conference room.]

Nina Myers: Hey. Have you talked to anyone else besides me since Jack called?

Teri Bauer: No. Why?

Nina Myers: It's… nothing. I'm sorry. Are you OK?

Teri Bauer: Yeah. Everything's fine.

Nina Myers: Good.

Teri Bauer: Nina… The past is the past, and up until today you were mostly a voice on the other end of the phone for me. But I want you to know that I have nothing but respect for you.

Nina Myers: Thank you.

Teri Bauer: And I think… all three of us owe you our lives.

Nina Myers: Well, that's a bit of an overstatement, but…

Teri Bauer: Actually, no, it's kind of an understatement. There's something else I wanna tell you. I'm pregnant.

Nina Myers: You are? Well, that's… that's wonderful.

Teri Bauer: Yeah, it is.

[They hug.]

Nina Myers: That's great. It's great. Well, I…

Teri Bauer: Sure. Go ahead.

[Nina leaves the conference room.]

Andre Drazen: How are we going to do this without the girl?

Victor Drazen: Bauer has no choice but to trust us.

[Andre's cell phone rings. It is a woman named Yelena. They speak in Serbian.]

Andre Drazen (in Serbian): Yes?

Nina Myers (in Serbian): It’s Yelena.

Andre Drazen (in Serbian): Why are you calling?

Nina Myers (in Serbian): Palmer is not dead.

Andre Drazen (in Serbian): What?

Nina Myers (in Serbian): It was a trick to make you believe. To keep the girl alive.

Andre Drazen (in Serbian): You’re sure of this?

Nina Myers (in Serbian): Yes, I’m sure.

[Yelena's face is revealed -- it is Nina.]

Tony Almeida: Oh, there you are. We just got some new Intel from Langley.

Nina Myers: Oh, good.

Tony Almeida: Yeah, take a look at this.
